ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Why do ships sport figureheads?
For luck. Sailors, who through the ages have endured
a very risky profession, are terribly superstitious.
Figureheads are believed to protect the ship.
Particularly fierce ones are also thought to scare
the enemy.
Do modern ships still have figureheads?
Some do.

*A Woman's Conversation About a Haircut:*
Oh! That's so cute!
Do you think so? I wasn't sure when she was gave
me the mirror. I mean, you don't think it's too fluffy
looking?
Oh goodness no! No, it's perfect. I'd love to get my
hair cut like that, but I think my face is too wide. I'm
pretty much stuck with this stuff I think.
Are you serious? I think your face is adorable. And
you could easily get one of those layer cuts that would
look so cute I think. I was actually going to do that
except that I was afraid it would accent my long neck.
Oh, that's funny! I would love to have your neck!
Anything to take attention away from this two-by-four
I have for a shoulder line.
Are you kidding? I know girls that would love to have
your shoulders. Everything drapes so well on you. I
mean, look at my arms. See how short they are? If I
had your shoulders I could get clothes to fit me
so much easier. <etc, add nauseam>
*A Man's Conversation About a Haircut:*
Haircut?
Yep.
I guess that is why the book Men Are From Mars Women
Are From Venus. It is clear that certain topics have a
different importance level to some people.
But, that's what makes the world go around. The fact that
folks are interested in subjects that don't interest you is
a point you should tolerate. After all it is highly likely you
are interested in topics and ideas that don't interest them.
So how do you handle that situation? Well, first of all ask
yourself why you are inclined to push your own agenda.
Is it necessary you embark on any conversation on
subjects and ideas that interest you? The point here is
that socially it is often a good strategy to show genuine
interest in the ideas and topics of the person with whom
you are speaking.
If that person should stray into your territory then you will
have a wonderful and meaningful conversation for each
of you. If they don't stray that far then you will have a
person who thinks you are great because your listening
has made him/her feel important. That is always a good
step.
Never forget that it takes the vulture and the robin to make
life interesting and beautiful. So too with people. It takes
all kinds and learning to accept the fact that people are all
on different levels of knowledge, interest and paths is a big
step in furthering your social skills. It helps in the workplace,
socially and at home.
The benefits of being tolerant can be many. First, it
removes from you much pressure. You are removed
from the need to justify your existence. As you learn to
listen your social acceptability grows. As you show
genuine interest in others and the things that concern
them you become important to them. Does that sound
like a good plan for you to follow? It really all boils down
to understanding that people come in ...

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson
Having Trouble Swallowing All Your Pills?
There is a trick to everything, isn't there?
And swallowing pills or tablets, or medicine is
just the same. And some of those are pretty large
"challenges" to swallow. However, they must
be taken and on a regular basis. So you will
have to find ways that work for you.
So first tell yourself that these will help - whatever
your problem is. Otherwise you won't take them.
The doctors call that "non-compliance".
So here are a few ideas to help the medicine
go down.
Stand up to take them if at all possible. It elongates
the esophagus (throat) and lets the pill slide down
in a straight line. Next, use cool liquid: not warm.
Warm fluids will start the dissolution process too
soon. (You'll agree if you have ever taken asa
with warm water!)
Take the pills individually. Yes, even if you have
many, many of them. It makes it much easier. And
they won't "bunch up" in the throat. (You might take
some tiny ones together.) I had one person take
all 10 of the ones we recommend for Meniere's,
and he upchucked them 10 minutes later. It NEVER
occurred to me to tell him not to take them altogether!
Allow the pill to "float" on the liquid as it goes down
your throat. In other words, don't rush to swallow,
but keep your head straight and don't rush.
Next keep your head straight. Don't tilt it way back.
That will cause you to gag, and the pill won't go
down easily.
Liquids like milk and tomato juice help the pills to
"slide down" much more than liquids such as
cranberry juice or water.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

He reached for her. They embraced in a deep,
mutually willing, passionate kiss and embrace.
Both were aroused but just being here together was
more important than anything else going through
their minds right now.
Little Maz came over and hollered into the hut
from outside. Tim answered him and Maz came in. He
had been sent by his Mom to get the lazy bones out
of bed and over to her place for some breakfast.
Tim laughed and started to chase Maz. He ran.
Tim waited at the door for Sharon who was soon
up and joined him. The pair walked over to
Eloise's for the morning meal.
Sam and Alewka were already there, as were
Mazunta's folks. As the couple came into the fire
circle and sat down they were welcomed. They both
noticed the circle was larger than usual this
morning. Soon their question was answered.
David, Pam and the kids came over and sat next
to Tim and Sharon, and Boolanga and his family
came over to join them as well.
"Gee, this morning is almost the same as last
night!" Tim made the observation.
"Not quite so many people though. I'm hungry.
What's you got cookin' Eloise?" David Wiley was
hungry this morning.
"You'll just have to wait and see mister. Hold
your horses."
"That was sure one incredible evening last
night. Wow!"
"We hope you enjoyed it Sharon. We can all see
it had the desired effect. That's good." Mazunta
was the one to answer her.
Sharon was learning the hierarchy of the
village and Mazunta clearly was the village
leader.
Sam spoke, "David what is the latest news
about your Mother and Susan? We haven't heard, nor
inquired, for a long while."
"They're fine Sam. They seem to like what they
are doing in China and the last we heard they
thought they might come home anytime now, for a
short visit. In fact, now that we are all
together, let's invite them for breakfast?"
All present thought that was a good idea and
all concentrated on Mae and Sue, asking them to
come for the morning meal.
The timing was near perfect. As it was nearly
ten hours difference between them the day was
shutting down in China where it was just beginning
here. Mae and Sue were just sitting around a small
fire they had started at the spot where they were
going to bed down for the night. They both decided
to accept the invitation.
Before anyone at the village could receive an
answer Mae and Susan materialized right there
in front of them.
There were excited hugs and kisses all around.
It had been a very long time since this group had
been together. What a wonderful reunion this was.
Mae and Sue were surprised to see Sam and
Alewka there, plus Tim. Sharon they had not met
before and they were now introduced.
Mae was really interested in her grandchildren.
Susan was interested in the Henrys
and in Sharon.
It was a reunion of close, dear friends, who
had the common ability to live by higher law. The
only two at the meeting who did not live by higher
law were Mazunta's folks. Yet that did not matter
for they were included in all conversations.
Then there was another present. "Sien! How are
you? It's nice to see you. What brings you here?"
"I was just aware of a meeting of some friends
and thought I might join them. Someone said you
were serving breakfast Eloise." He looked at her
and winked. Sien was a dear and beloved friend of
everyone here.
Boolanga went up to him and hugged him, as did
everyone else.
"My, Boolanga, your family has all grown up."
Sien had not seen Boolanga's and Karmuz's kids for
many years. It was true they were now all adults,
grown strong handsome and pretty. "They have not
yet crossed the veil of simplicity?"
"They are close and it will not be long."
Boolanga answered.
"From this day there shall be no impediment to
that step. Should they choose, they may become
masters this instant." Sien had reached into the
hearts of each of Boolanga's three children and
removed all doubt.
Almost as one the three stepped forward,
symbolically making the step as if stepping across
a wall or a line that separated them from the
rest. At that instant they were masters.

TODAY'S REPORT:
Today I finally have a chance to take things easy, a much
appreciated respite. I enjoy being home and working from
here so being busy out of the house and even at nights is
something I would rather avoid. That is to say, unless it is
doing something I have planned for my business. For
example I will be practicing reading my newspaper
articles this weekend. On Monday I have a date to record
a demo to send to radio stations. It should be fun.
Thanks Sue for the reminder!

HA! HA! HA!
A blonde went to a police station to get a job there.
The man said that police officers had to be smart and
so he had to ask her a few questions.
THe first question was: What's 2+2? The blonde
easily answered 4.
Then the man said, "Okay, Whats the color of the
sky?"
The blonde replied, "Well, on most days its blue but
sometimes it can be gray, and when the sun sets, it
can be different colors."
The man agreed. Then he asked how many inches
were in a foot. She gave the answer 12.
Then the man said, "Okay, last Question, Who shot
Abraham Lincoln?"
The blonde stood there for a while. After some time,
the man said,
"Go home and sleep on it, then come to me tomorrow."
That night the blonde was having some friends over
and they asked her if she got the job. She responded,
"Well I think, they already gave me my first case!"
