What date does Mardi Gras fall on?

What pagan celebrations influenced Mardi Gras?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

About how much does a human brain weigh?

The average adult human brain weighs about three
pounds, representing about two percent of body weight.
(It looks like our bacteria outweigh our brains!)

What is Mardi Gras?

"Mardi Gras" is French for "Fat Tuesday," the day before
"Ash Wednesday" (the first day of Lent). Lent, of course, is
a time of spiritual preparation for the Christian holiday of
Easter that generally involves fasting, penance, and prayer.
Catholic tradition dictates that the forty days before Easter
be a time of restrictions. To prepare for this gloomy period,
people in the Middle Ages celebrated with wild abandon
in the days before. Mardi Gras, in effect, is the very last day
to celebrate before Lent. It marks the end of a carnival
season that began on January 6, twelve days after
Christmas, to commemorate the visit of the Wise Men to
the Christ child (this day is also referred to as "Epiphany"
or "Twelfth Night"). Mardi Gras is also known as "Shrove
Tuesday." During Mardi Gras, people dress up in elaborate
costumes, attend masked balls and numerous parades,
drink alcohol, and engage in uninhibited celebration. During
the famous Mardi Gras festivities in New Orleans, partial
nudity and wild dancing is not uncommon.

TITLE ARTICLE - - -
-----------------

Breakin' It Down
by Cathy Bryant

I've recently begun working with individuals one-on-one who
are truly interested in earning an income from the internet
in the comfort of their own home. A common complaint I hear
from them is that they are constantly overwhelmed by the
enormous amount of information that they are bombarded with
each and every day.

This is understandable; everyone has faced it.

Those who have been successful online, however, have done so
because of a simple process - narrowing their focus.

In any business, this is necessary. But online, it is
critical for success.

There are a lot of people who are working from home, and not
ALL of them are earning their income solely from the internet.
Some have businesses that are run completely offline, and
many have both online and offline components.

For purposes of this article, however, I'd like to address
those whose goal it is to work completely online, since that
seems to be ideally what most people wish to do.

So what works best?

Many things, but I believe that the vast majority of truly
successful online businesses fall into one of three groups:

Network Marketing
Information Products
Affiliate Program Promotion

Some successful entrepreneurs have incoroporated two and
sometimes all three into their businesses.

Why did I single these three out?

Simple. The great majority of home-based online entrepreneurs
I've ever read about, heard of or communicated with has achieved
their success through at least one of these three methods.

Let's break it down further -

Network Marketing - with all its bad press, network marketing
marketing is indeed a viable business model. The power of the
internet to disperse information quickly and efficiently is
ideal for those who enjoy working with others one-on-one.
But that is key, for network marketing is still a person to
person business, any way you look at it. The internet simply
makes it easier and more cost efficient.

The key to network marketing success is to choose wisely.
Rather than join the latest and greatest matrix program being
touted as the fastest way to internet riches, look for a
company whose products truly fill a need and who has been
in business for at least five years. There are a lot of
companies who have been in business for many years and who
are now offering an internet presence for their distributors
and customers.

Information Products - The internet is all about information.
We all know that some individuals over the years have
amassed small fortunes selling information to highly
targeted groups. It is only natural that this type of
business would move seamlessly to the online world. Even
more significant for those in the information business is
the fact that they can operate online at significantly
reduced operating costs, thereby increasing their profits.

To be successful in the information business, one doesn't
have to have a college degree in English or be a published
writer. Everyone has specialized knowledge; if you can
put it together in a way that is easily understood by
others, you will have a ready-made market for those who
want and need your information. No matter how obscure you
may think your information is, you can be sure that there
are people out there looking for it!

Affiliate Program Promotion - Although I see many of the
so-called "gurus" telling everyone that the only real way to
make money online is to have your own product, I have to
respectfully disagree. There are a whole lot of people
quietly working at home, out of the spotlight, who are
earning significant incomes promoting the affiliate programs
of others.

The key to success in profiting from affiliate programs is by
building a theme-based website targeting a very specific market
and promoting only those programs whose products meet the needs
of its visitors. Critical to this type of business is ongoing
communication with customers and visitors, usually through
newsletters and updates on new products and information that is
available on the site.

Joining affiliate programs helter-skelter and trying to promote
them individually via inefficient means such as classified ads,
safelists, and other forms of ineffective advertising is an
exercise in futility. It is this method of promotion that is
often used by the newcomer online and results in their
frustration and belief that earning an income with these
programs is impossible.

You may be a beginner to the world of online marketing. Or
perhaps you're a victim of information overload that has
hampered your forward progress. In either case, your best
chance for success in your own business is to first choose
from one of these three business models.

When you have done that, then you can move forward. Decide
which resources you need to get your own business up and
running. This will make it much easier to hit the "delete"
key when your email is filled with those products and
opportunities that you simply don't need.

Stay focused on what YOU want to accomplish, and avoid the
confusion of going in too many different directions. You'll
be amazed at how easy it will be to accomplish your goals
once you've eliminated so many distractions!

Who’s In Charge Here? Thinking About Our
Body’s Healthy Maintenance
PART 1 of 10

This is going to be a short, easy to understand
“course” on how your body “operates” and needs to be
maintained. I will discuss some “new” developments in
how people find medical information for their own use.
You will learn some anatomy and physiology and then I
will share principles that help you understand why your
body does certain things. I’ll include some examples
and add questions I have received recently that tie
into this subject. I am also going to share some basic
principles as to how your body functions.

You may wonder why you are being “exposed” to this
information in this newsletter and in particular in
this series of articles. Let me explain. You obviously
have an interest in health: hopefully, your own to
start. Towards the end of this series, I will be
sharing some questions from readers. I do this to show
that any and all questions are important. Incidentally
if you have written a question, and haven’t received an
answer, I haven’t received it. I answer all questions,
although it may take a few days before I get back to
you. In this age of being able to access massive
amounts of information, people expect to find answers
immediately and from a variety of resources. It is
those choices that seem to be leading people a bit off
course…with less than happy results.

This is an effort to help people learn or understand
normal body functions. Then you might at least
recognize the value of the information that faces you.
There is nothing in it to indicate that this could be
correct or incorrect. It all sounds like the truth.
Let me share what I see is the “new way health
information gathering and decision making process.
Let’s compare a person who had a health issue before
the advent of the Internet and then see what happens
nowadays. I’ll use one from the examples I’ll share
later on in this article. Pretend you had some blood
pressure problems, but you don’t feel it is an
emergency. So you set up an appointment with your
doctor’s office or a clinic for a few days later…or the
following week.

During this visit, you gain some insight. You usually
get a prescription or two, along with some
recommendations...and you return to work. Eventually
the problem goes away, you (hopefully) get better and
life continues. The process presents some loopholes in
terms of timely examination. Your ailment description
needs to be very precise. However, with the presence of
the Internet, things have changed dramatically. But so
have people. Many are not willing to wait for answers
or help. No longer are people solely dependent on their
doctor for insight or recommendations. They have all
kinds of information at their fingertips, literally!
The vast majority of people now own computers, have
email, and can access the Internet anytime for help.
Most people are knowledgeable in entering key words. It
is almost automatic to seek out more information on
things that might help them understand their healthy
situation. But this is where the problem starts.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"Listen young lady, this is my house. So long
as you live under this roof you will do as I say.
Do you understand? Thats final."

Bob Smithson was losing it. His temper was
getting the better of him and his daughter's calm,
steady approach to the conversation only angered
him the more.

Sharon rose. "Daddy, I think it is time I got
my own apartment."

"Sit down. You're going nowhere. You have no
money. You're only a child. You can't do that."

"The law says I am an adult when I turn 18. I
can then join the army, enter into contracts and
otherwise decide how I am going to run my own
life. It's time you and Mom gave me that level of
trust and encouragement."

"Don't get smart with me young lady. I'll cuff
you one." Bob raised his hand as if to strike.

"NO!" Harriet's call stopped everything. He
suddenly remembered the last time when he lost his
temper with his daughter.

"Daddy, I have made changes in my life that I
want. I don't think you and Mom understand them. I
think it best I move out to an apartment of my own
so we can all get used to this idea gradually."
Sharon looked at Tim. He rose to leave.

"Good bye Mrs. Smithson, Mr. Smithson."
He began to walk to the front door.
Sharon spoke, "Wait for me!"

"Sharon! Get back here." the command came from
her Father.

"Daddy, I'm going with Tim. I'll come back
tomorrow and we'll talk when things settle down.
Don't be mad. I'm fine."

Once outside Tim and Sharon held hands and
vanished. They appeared again in the Henry
household kitchen.

"Let's have a coffee and do some planning."
Tim knew this was a moment where he should be
careful. "How are you feeling? That was too bad
things worked out that way. They will come around,
but its too bad it has to happen this way."

Sharon sat down. The time was not yet
suppertime, about 5:30 p.m.

Tim served coffee. "Well, what's next?"

"Tim, I know things will settle down. I know
Mom and Dad will come around, in time, but I truly
think that I should go get an apartment. I can't
stay here. Oh, I know I can but that would put you
and I too close, too often. We should be more
careful than that. I think I should go out tonight
and get a suite, move in and see where life goes
from there. Will you help me?"

"Of course I'll help. We'll go right after
this." Tim lifted his cup to his lips and sipped
the coffee.

"I know the folks don't like the idea of me
moving out. I know they don't like the idea of me
quitting school especially when I have only a
month left now. Maybe I should keep it up."

"If you like that would be fine. It is not too
long a time."

"I think the folks would appreciate that. I
will go talk to them often to see if I can get
them to understand. I will try to work with them
but it will depend on whether they want to
understand. I wonder why people react that way?"

"Living by higher law is fine Sharon, for
someone else. Once it comes into a household not
yet ready for it then fear takes over. They
cannot, worse, they don't want to, see the
benefit. It frightens people. Isn't it amazing
how, even after Jesus appeared in church and told
them they were going in the wrong direction, isn't
it amazing how they are trying to salvage what
they had? It just shows the extent to which man is
afraid of the unknown."

"I don't understand either. Can they not see?"

"It is that they don't want to see Sharon. If
they have a good close look they will see and that
means work and going where they don't know the
path. They would much rather stick with what they
have and leave it at that. They think that somehow
their God will protect them. They have already
decided they will not take a good clear look."

"That is too bad. They have had a better
chance and a better start than most people get.
They had the Master himself show them the way."

"So how's your coffee?"

"I'm done."

"There are some apartments not too far from
here. We can even walk there. They are new and are
very nice. Should we go have a look?"

Tim knew Sharon would take the first one she
looked at. Living by higher law there was no money
problem and she could manifest her furniture.

The two of them walked the three blocks to the
apartment Tim told her about. They walked hand in
hand and enjoyed the sunny day.

When they rang the bell at the apartment
office it was a while before anyone came. They
were eating supper.

HA! HA! HA!

There are reports of a new problem in Australia. Some of
the Kangaroos have developed a thirst for revenge against
the traffic that keeps knocking them down.

Drivers have reported that they'll pass a herd of roos that
are hopping along peacefully, but as soon as they've passed
them, the roos suddenly change direction and veer towards
the vehicle. The driver then has to drive as quickly as
possible to escape the rampaging marsupials.

Drivers are being urged to keep an eye on their veer-roo
mirror at all times.
