What date does Mardi Gras fall on?

Because of its connection to Easter, Mardi Gras falls on
a different date each year. It can occur on any Tuesday
from February 3 through March 9. (Easter can fall on any
Sunday from March 23 to April 25. Its exact date is set to
coincide with the first Sunday after the full moon that
follows the Spring equinox.) Mardi Gras is always 47 days
before Easter (the forty days of Lent, plus seven Sundays).

What pagan celebrations influenced Mardi Gras?

Mardi Gras has its roots in Saturnalia, an ancient Roman
celebration in honor of the king Saturnus, and Bacchanalia,
a celebration in honor of Bacchus, the god of wine and
fertility.

A Resurgence of the Browser Wars
By Tom Hespos

"Use Mozilla Firefox. It works every time."

That was the quote of the weekend, delivered Sunday night
by my friend Craig. I was helping him open a seller's account
on eBay so he could put some things up for auction. We had
just tried to use Internet Explorer (IE), but some nasty malware
wouldn't let us access eBay without getting bounced to some
"alternative" auction sites. We simply couldn't get to eBay
on IE, and Spybot: Search and Destroy wasn't picking up
on the malware.

Craig's brother Rich and his wife Sandy are schoolteachers
living on the East End of Long Island. They are reasonably
computer literate, but have had much the same experience
with IE. I installed Firefox on their machine last time I visited
them. And I know many other folks who are getting
increasingly frustrated with the tendency of IE to be hijacked
by all sorts of malware that compromises their machines.
These situations quickly speed the adoption of Firefox and
other alternative browsers that are not as susceptible to
malware attacks and compromised security.

Last week as I was driving home from work, I began to hear
commercials for Firefox on talk radio. The unique selling
proposition? Exactly what I've described above. The
commercial even went so far as to explain why IE is more
susceptible than Firefox. On top of the radio commercials,
they've run a huge two-page ad in The New York Times.

When I first downloaded Firefox, the selling point for me
was the notion of a more flexible browser that blocked
pop-ups, enabled things like tabbed browsing and useful
plug-ins. But the selling proposition to the non-early
adopters is, simply, that it works, is more secure, and
gets rid of all those unexpected troubles.

Given the capital expended in the first browser war, in
which Internet Explorer captured the vast majority of the
browser market and Netscape Navigator emerged the
clear loser, the stakes are very high. Firefox has been
downloaded over 16 million times and has a very
dedicated following. (See spreadfirefox.com to get an
idea of just how dedicated these folks are.) It's starting
to appear on client radar screens - I've received inquiries
concerning how sites should be optimized to address
Firefox's user base, plus a couple of others about
bundling or co-marketing opportunities. It's not just
an underground browser alternative for geeks anymore.

Consumers are tired of spending serious money on
computers, for whatever reason, and having them turn
into very expensive doorstops mere months later due
to malware and compromised security. And the word
is out - Firefox will give you what you want from the
Web, and keep this nasty stuff off your machine. How
soon before we see a sequel to the first browser war?
Some, including me, would say it's underway already.

Who’s In Charge Here? Thinking About Our
Body’s Healthy Maintenance
PART 2 of 10

Let’s use blood pressure and hypertension as an
example. I just did this and found 12,200,000 “hits” or
sources or SITES of information! That is TWELVE
MILLION!!!! How can you possibly go through all those?
How do you choose? It’s absurd to expect to read all of
them. So how DO you choose? What information can you
trust? Do you understand all the words? Do you get the
“drift” of the meaning? Is the site sponsored by a drug
company or someone trying to justify their products
such as an exercise machine or book? There is nothing
wrong with any of this but you need to know how to find
objective, trustworthy information. Personally I have
found several sites and stick with them.

So the purpose of particular article is to try to
eliminate a little confusion. We are all experts in
something: it may just not be in this area. But this
information is not based on doing better searches. It
is based on knowing your body better. Then if you are
faced with some sort of drug or machine, or
information, you have enough understanding to make
informative decisions or discard suspect advice. Much
of this is common sense, but we aren’t taught a lot of
that in school. You will get an overview of the anatomy
and physiology and how the body keeps going. I think
even just having this overview gives you more
confidence in asking better and more relevant
questions. It takes some of the mystery and fear out of
search.

Let me share some principles. This list is incomplete,
but it serves us well right here. These are important
concepts or assumptions to grasp. They carry a lot of
influence. They are like unwritten laws and are
invisible, but very real. If you try to oppose them or
act as if they don’t exist, (without impunity
“Exemption from punishment, penalty, or harm”). They
win out each and every time.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------

They talked with the apartment manager for a
while and made a decision they wanted to look at a
one bedroom apartment.

The manager took them to it. It was on the
second floor. They had walked through a portico
and around a swimming pool, then up some outside
stairs. Walking down a walkway back toward the
direction of the office they stopped about half
way along the building. The manager took his keys
and opened the door.

Sharon walked in and had a look around. It was
a nice apartment, clean, new. It had a stove,
fridge, dishwasher and washer and dryer. There was
a large living room that looked out over a forest
of trees. The kitchen utility room was a galley
style, behind swinging doors. The living room was
large enough to hold a dining room table as well
as regular living room furniture. The door to the
bedroom was up near the kitchen and was not a
major break in the decor. Entering the bedroom
Sharon found it to be very large with huge
closets.

"You have a storage locker down below I will
show you, but it is mostly for bulky things like
boxes and stuff. Most of the storage space you
have with the suite is in this bedroom."

"That looks fine." Sharon then proceeded to
deal with the manager on the price. Once all that
was settled she discovered she would be able to
move in that night if she wanted. She felt
fortunate to be able to find a suite so fast and
it was a month to month rental so she did not have
to sign a long term lease.

Thinking all this over she decided to not only
take the suite but act upon the manager's
suggestion to move in tonight.

That caused the manager to show signs of
concern. What was she going to sleep on? What
about food, clothing and other things people bring
with them. Yet Sharon had given him a security
deposit equal to one months rent, plus the first
months rent, so he didn't have much to think
about.

He gave her the key along with a lecture about
behavior within the complex, notifying her she
would be kicked out at the first sign of too many
boyfriends, too much noise or any sign of drugs at
all.

Sharon accepted those terms. It was easy
because none of those things were of interest to
her.

That was more reason for the manager to be
concerned. What young lady, these days, wasn't
interested in those things. Oh well! He would just
have to wait and see.

With key in hand, she, Tim and the manager
walked out the door onto the walkway. The manager
pointed out the ways to get in and out of the
complex, then left the way they had come. Tim and
Sharon leaned on the railing that allowed them to
overlook the pool. They saw the manager walking
back to his office.

Sharon grabbed Tim and took him back inside.
She was full of excitement. This was going to be
nice.

In seconds she had manifested a table and four
chairs. Then, in the kitchen she manifested all
the food she thought she would need. She put it in
the fridge and manifested a coffee maker and made
coffee. She need not have done things that way but
she still had the old habit structure she was
overcoming.

They sat and had a coffee. "Do you think this
is all right Tim?"

"Of course. It isn't me you have to convince,
it is your folks."

"Yeah. I know. I just thought that if I got a
suite away from everybody, including you, then I
would have time to think and set my path. I agree
that for the next month I will continue going to
school and write the final exams, just to keep the
heat down from Mom and Dad. That won't hurt me too
much. I can manifest all the furniture I want and
I can keep this place clean the same way. You and
I can spend some time together but doing so here
will be dangerous for our decision. Our time will
come. Thank you for showing me higher law. I love
you."

With that Sharon came over and sat on Tim's
lap and they kissed. One thing led to another and
the first thing you know they were embraced in a
passionate exchange again.

Tim pushed her away and came up for air. He
was breathing hard and fast. He wanted to continue
but he knew he must not.

Sharon knew too, but , gee, it was hard not to
get involved.

They sat up once again across the table from
each other. They poured another coffee.

"Do you think you will be decorating this
place tonight?"

TODAY'S REPORT:

Some days busy seems to come out of nowhere. I have the
book to proof and that is taking time. I have thePEBBLE to get
out and that takes time. I'm in the middle of shopping for a
new truck, that takes time. And there are always deadlines
of one sort or another. I guess that's life. By the way, this is not
a complaint. I like busy. It was just an observation at how
things get that way all by themselves sometimes.

HA! HA! HA!

A fellow bought a new Mercedes and was out on the
interstate for a nice evening drive. The top was down,
the breeze was blowing through what was

left of his hair and he decided to open her up. As the
needle jumped up to 80 mph, he suddenly saw flashing
red and blue lights behind him. "There's no way they can
catch a Mercedes," he thought to himself and opened
her up further. The needle hit 90, 100.... Then the reality
of the situation hit him. "What am I doing?" he thought
and pulled over.

The cop came up to him, took his license without a word
and examined it and the car. "It's been a long day, this is
the end of my shift and it's Friday the 13th. I don't feel like
more paperwork, so if you can give me an excuse for
your driving that I haven't heard before, you can go."

The guy thinks for a second and says, "Last week my
wife ran off with a cop. I was afraid you were trying to
give her back!"

"Have a nice weekend," said the officer.
