What queen of England never lived in nor even
visited the country?
Don't feel too bad if you didn't get this one. She's not
well-known. Queen Berengaria, wife of Richard I,
the Lion-Hearted, never stepped foot in the country
for which she served as queen.
Are teeth made of the same material as bone?
No. Teeth are not really bone, though they do contain
tissue that resembles bone. Teeth are made up primarily
of a bone-like (but not bone) substance called dentin.
Dentin is much softer than bone, so a layer of enamel
covers and surrounds the dentin. Enamel is MUCH
harder than bone and is actually the hardest substance
in the body.

Here's To Think On ...

Creative Parenting Works
Here are some lessons to ponder ...
1. The later you stay up, the earlier your child will wake
up the next morning.
2. For a child to become clean, something else must
become dirty.
3. Toys multiply to fill any space available.
4. The longer it takes you to make a meal, the less
your child will like it.
5. Yours is always the only child who doesn't behave.
6. If the shoe fits...it's expensive.
7. The surest way to get something done is to tell a
child not to do it.
8. The gooier the food, the more likely it is to end up
on the carpet.
9. Backing the car out of the driveway causes your
child to have to go to the bathroom.
This little list of tips on raising children was clearly drawn
up by someone who has been there. I love every one of
them.
While every one of these statements can be true and while
the raising of children can have its moments of pure chaos,
worry or fear, there are also more times it can be fun.
I strongly recommend you bring up your children with your
attitude being that you don't own them but are made
responsible for bringing them up to be good strong citizens
that contribute, as if you were a steward. If your attitude is
that you "own" them then you are likely to administer
discipline on that basis and as a result breed fear into their
hearts. Discipline based on what you want at any given
moment is the worst thing you can do to a child.
Discipline need only be administered up to a point where
a child learns to listen and act upon what you say. A child
must clearly understand it is for his/her benefit, not yours.
Thereafter, it is wise to permit a child the greatest possible
latitude that they may experience and learn. You can always
be around to guide and that is the watchword "guide". If a
child already responds to your commands then you can
keep the child from danger, or protect them and guide
them out of danger if they are in it. A child that does not
listen can be harmful unto themselves.
However, the administration of discipline for your sake will
come back to haunt you. Just because you are tired, hungry,
weak or exhausted is no excuse to discipline anyone.
Getting mad at a youngster, telling them to go away, just
because you are tired is a poor excuse for a parent. If you
have been away for a while, regardless of what you are
doing, a child wanting attention when you are home is
nothing short of a compliment and should be treated
as such.
Adopt the attitude that having and raising kids is fun. Learn
to have fun doing the things they like. Play with them,
show them, guide them to bigger and better things. Learn
to give them trust and room. That will come back to you
an hundred times over. Get involved with them at all times,
with all things, even and maybe especially when they are
teens. It can be a lot of fun. I know I am thankful for my kids
having opened up my mind, my horizons, my future. They
will go places you wouldn't think of and they will drag you
along. You will be in for some learning, some fun and a
deep rewarding joy impossible to get any other way.

Body Parts: Hands and Feet
PART 1 of 7
I once worked with a most wonderful nursing instructor! She only
had one flaw.she hated feet! She couldn't bear to look at them!
Or care for them! She probably wouldn't appreciate this article.
Your hands and feet play a vital role in your life: all day:
every day.
(Description)
What if you placed 110 bones in a long line.then added sheets of
skin, masses of muscle, twenty nails, fine hairs, plus some
connecting links? And threw in many long lines of nerves, and
miles of blood vessels? What would it add up to? Your feet and
hands!
It's really important to learn a few things that will give you a
more enjoyable, longer, pain-free and problem- free life. If you
look at your hands and wiggle them, you will see skin, ripples,
bumps, dips, lines, and hinges. You'll have chunks of flesh,
some slimming of hands and feet as your eyes work along to the
ends: to the "phalanges" ...the extensions of your hands and
feet. It all looks very peaceful and simple on the surface. Most
likely your skin colour will be whitish, darkish or a shade in
between.usually not reddish. This would be normal pigmentation.
Now turn your hands over and this still doesn't look too busy.
Now check out your feet.tops first. You see chubby toes, nails,
hairs and relatively little else unusual. On the underside,
which you can see very easily with a mirror, you will see
"buttons" instead of the usual "toe". You will see a heel and
maybe calluses (rough areas). If you have a normal foot, there
will be little to report. The same kinds of lines, etc. will be
present. You have now been given a visual inspection of both
hands and feet. They are "unremarkable" which in medical terms
means "all is well". There is nothing noteworthy. This is the
expected outcome.
(Action)
The nature of hands and feet is to be strong and flexible... to
be able to hold and to be moved or manipulated. As in the rest
of the body, bones provide the framework. This is the central,
stable anchor. But in your hands and feet, that stability is
also "invested" in many small bones rather than just a few large
ones.
BUT.It would be helpful and interesting to know a little medical
terminology first.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

Ben Striker stayed on top of that butte for
hours. He was reviewing his life, trying to look
for any time he may have made the choice to live
by higher law earlier than he did. The only time
he came up with was once in his youth. At that
time, however, as with most, it went right on by
him. He was caught in wonderment and it never
occurred to him he should follow that path.
The sun was setting when Ben finally stood.
The sunsets in this country were nothing short of
spectacular. Is there any way someone watching the
sunset could ever think and wonder at it's beauty?
He knew he had missed supper back in Pinehill.
That didn't matter. Nothing could replace the joy
and beauty he felt at this moment. He knew Helen
would not prepare supper for him until he was
there.
Pinehill was two hours ahead of him. That was
the time zone difference. That meant Helen would
be watching her favorite TV program, unless she
had been called out somewhere. Ben thought he
could linger until the last vestiges of light were
gone and then another beautiful sight opened up to
him, the southern sky at night. This too, could
easily be described as spectacular. You could
almost reach the stars. It was no wonder men would
look at the heavens in awe.
Finally the time came for Ben to get back
home. He reluctantly left the butte and made one
more stop over to see to the welfare of the man he
had aided that day. All was well. The man had
returned to his home and was preparing to eat a
meal.
Ben watched for a while. The man had opened a
can of beans and, without heating them, merely ate
them from the can, with a spoon. Looking around
Ben saw the house was a ramshackle place put
together from anything that could be found. Some
of it was adobe. Other parts were from old wooden
crates he had found somewhere. There was a
scattering of tin on the roof. There were no rooms
in the place. It was all one big room. At most it
was 10 feet by 15 feet. All it contained was an
old 45 gal. drum the old man used for a stove, a
chair, table and a makeshift bed. Some of the
windows were broken as were some floorboards.
Outside there was an old hitching rail that
told of a way of life long ago. There was an old
beat up truck that still ran. It must have been 30
years old. And there was an outhouse, somewhat
dilapidated but useable nonetheless. There were
two dogs outside. Each of them was lean, ribs
showing, and lazy. They didn't move much in this
heat if they didn't have to.
There were signs of a corral out behind the
house that at one time held horses this man had
owned. They were gone now. The young generation
were all driving vehicles, trucks mostly. They
were not inclined to listen to the old man any
longer except in time of need.
Gone were the days when he would have a bunch
of kids around him as he told stories of the old
days. He used to keep them enthralled for hours as
he spun tales of what life was like in his youth.
He always had a point to his stories. He would
always leave the children with some life lesson
they would remember all their lives.
Now, though, the old man was alone. His wife
had passed many years ago. He had three children,
a boy and two girls. The boy had been killed in a
war way off someplace the old man had never heard
of, and his daughters had married and moved. One
was still on this reservation. The other had moved
into town and found herself a good job, married
out of the race, had three children of her own and
he hardly saw her but for maybe once a year or so.
This did not bother the old man. He well knew
each lived their lives as best they could. He
stood only to aid those who came seeking. His life
was enriched by his spiritual beliefs and his long
experience that worldly goods are a bondage not a
measurement of wealth. His wealth lay in his heart
and in his knowledge. There is nothing he would
ever do to change that. Men can have expensive
things thinking that made them important. The old
man knew better and knew how foolish this thinking
was. Yet he understood, too, that all men are led
to their station in life as a learning process. He
knew each was on a journey of their souls guiding.
He knew that each, one day, would learn what he
had learned. He was thankful to live in this
incarnation. It was part of his overall growth. He
was pleased to part this world, too, when the time
was right. He would know that time and would
embrace it for he knew the next time of
incarnation he would become a master.
Ben simply projected love unto the old man
and acknowledged that, yes, the old man was right.

"Leadership is the ability to teach people and organizations
to surpass themselves."
---- Tony Jeary
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HA! HA! HA!
If you can start the day without caffeine,
If you can get going without pep pills,
If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with
your troubles,
If you can eat the same food everyday and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy
to give you any time,
If you can overlook it when those you love take it out on you
when, through no fault of
yours, something goes wrong,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can ignore a friend's limited education and never
correct him,
If you can resist treating a rich friend better than a poor friend,
If you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
If you can say honestly that deep in your heart you have
no prejudice against creed, color, religion or politics....
Then, my friend, you are almost as content as your dog.
