How do fingernails grow?
Many people think fingernails grow outward from the ends,
but this isn't true. The nails actually push up from the base.
Interestingly, many diseases and vitamin deficiencies may be
suspected by examining the fingernails for unusual color or
marks. Serious illness, which disrupts nail growth, may cause
your nails to become deformed.
Does your skin shrink in water?
If you spend an hour in the pool or bath, you'll notice, of course,
that the skin on your hands and feet becomes shriveled. That's
not because the skin is shrinking, however. It's because the skin
is expanding from the absorption of water. Skin over the hands
and feet is thicker than in other places and when these areas
of thicker skin become saturated, they expand. Because of their
denseness, wrinkles appear and the skin becomes whiter from
the increased water content. Thinner skin elsewhere in the body
has more room to absorb water, so wrinkles take longer to appear.
Interestingly, skin does not wrinkle from seawater because
seawater is so similar to the fluids in our body.

Tips And Tidbits
Here's an interesting tidbit from MediaDailyNews. I guess
he affluent use the net more often than we think.
Study: Rich People Use the Internet More
Jan. 20, 2005
By: Brian Morrissey
Senior Editor
bmorrissey@dmnews.com
A new research study confirms that affluent consumers
tend to use the Internet more for information and
shopping.
Packaged Facts, the publishing division of
MarketResearch.com, released a study yesterday based
on a poll of 29,000 consumers conducted in the spring
of 2004. The research company found that while
32 percent of respondents overall said the Internet
was their primary information source, 42 percent of
"mass affluent" consumers and 50 percent of
"highly affluent" individuals said this.
Packaged Facts defined mass affluent as a one-person
household with income between $75,000 and $149,000,
or larger households earning $100,000 to $149,000.
Households earning more than $150,000 annually were
tabbed as being highly affluent.
Similarly, rich consumers are more likely to shop online.
Overall, 34 percent of respondents said they made an
online purchase during the past year while 50 percent
of mass affluent respondents and 57 percent of the
highly affluent used e-commerce. Affluent customers
were found more likely to buy tickets online, book travel
as well as comparison shop.
The increased Internet use by the affluent might be
traced to their likelihood to have broadband Internet
access. Packaged Facts found the affluent are twice
as likely than the non-affluent to have DSL, WiFi or
broadband.
Based on Census numbers, Packaged Facts estimates
that 13.2 percent of U.S. adults qualify as mass affluent
and 8.2 percent are highly affluent. The affluent
represent about 45 million U.S. consumers, the
research concluded.

Body Parts: Hands and Feet
PART 2 of 7
(Terminology)
Medical terminology has good reason to exist. (Some college
courses teach 12 weeks of terminology. So you can see its
complexity. But people's lives depend on correct terminology, so
it's imperative that a health care professional knows it
thoroughly.) Medical terminology "divides" the body into
sections. And by imaginary lines. It also sections it into
quadrants, systems, organs, tissues, and cavities. (There is a
lot more but I don't want to add to the confusion.) Why do we
need to label these parts so carefully? We can't put an X on the
spot of your body, especially on the inside parts that hurt and
need repairing. There has to be a way of identifying all the
"structures". (Incidentally, we do actually put an X on an eye
that has to be removed.) If you had abdominal pain or a
complaint, you would need to be able to share your complaints
with all caregivers. That's where "charts" or "patient records"
come into play. Can you see how helpful it would be to know
immediately the area someone is speaking of? Everyone recognizes
this terminology. Some words are Latin: some are Greek. Much is
in your own language. Each term means the same, so the risk of
mistakes is minimized.
The terms that interest us the most here are bones and their
location and their "points of insertion". Points of insertions
(attachment) are the locations and the tissues where one part is
connected to another. So "proximal" is the point closest to the
body's centerline. Distal is the farthest away from the point
of attachment: NOT to the centerline of the body. Medial or
middle as in our case with hands and feet, are the middle bones.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

Arriving home late Ben found he was hungry. It
was nearly 11 o'clock in the evening when he got
home. Helen had finished watching her program on
TV and was doing some crossword puzzles at the
kitchen table.
Ben appeared in the kitchen, as she expected
he might.
"How did it go, Honey!" Helen was interested
in what went on in Ben's day.
Ben sat at the table, while Helen got him a
coffee, and began to relate to her what kind of a
day he had. It was clear to her he was in awe of
higher law. Ben was enjoying his new life.
"Are you hungry?"
"You bet" he said, "I haven't eaten since I
left here early this morning."
Helen proceeded to place a meal in front of
Ben. The pair of them, even though both lived by
higher law, continued at home to do things pretty
much the way they used to.
Helen, in the final years of Ben's work as
Police Chief, had been getting restless. There was
not much for her to do around the house and she
considered herself too old and too inexperienced
to go get work. The incident that caused her to
choose higher law was an incident that changed her
life forever. She was no longer at wits end, or
bored. Her life had become full, meaningful.
Ben and Helen had not had children. It had
something to do with an accident Helen had when
she was a child. That was fine with the pair of
them. They had worked all that out. Even though
they liked children and would have liked to have
children they had become reconciled to their
status.
Both Ben and Helen had become acceptors of
using higher law at the wedding for Oomano and
Romano, down in South America, to which they, as
friends were invited. They had been prepared for a
long time in Pinehill, being friends of the
Henrys. Yet, living in Pinehill presented them
with all sorts of competing conditions. It was not
until Jesus removed all impediment to living by
higher law, at that wedding, for all present, that
Ben and Helen instantly converted.
By the time of the wedding they were well
ready. In fact they had already committed. The
wedding incident was only the catalyst.
Helen listened to Ben's story with interest.
She had not been to Arizona herself and was
interested in Ben's description of the area. She
was also fascinated by Ben's story of the old man
whom he was sent to help. She enjoyed the
discussion about the old man's philosophy.
"Do you think he will become a master in his
next incarnation?"
"By all means, Helen. He has already learned
the lessons of bondage in man's world. He has
already learned the lessons of aiding mankind. He
has already learned the lessons of having a pure
heart. It is his destiny, although he will not
likely come back as a North American Indian in his
next life."
"I am glad you went and were able to help."
"So am I, but living by higher law enables us
to help in all circumstances. This is incredible,
Helen. I was in awe all day with the ability all
of us have to help our fellow man. I thought I was
helpful in my position as Police Chief, but I see
now that was only an ego turn on. I can do so much
more now I can hardly believe I held on to the old
way of life for so long. I should have joined Sam
Henry at the time he found his answers. It is
uncanny how man fails to see truth and how he
clings to the physical world."
"I know, we were the same way. If it had not
been for Sam coming to the hospital and causing me
to become whole once more after that fall and
concussion, I might even have scoffed it off. I am
really thankful for that accident now. Sometimes
it is the bad things that really end up doing the
most good for us, Ben."
"Twas ever so, Honey, twas ever so. That in
itself is a lesson mankind must learn. Nothing
happens by coincidence or without plan. Nothing
happens to man that in some way is not a benefit
to him. So soon as he learns this and looks for
the benefits and the lessons so soon can he move
closer to higher law."
"Well, we were fortunate. We knew that for
quite some time."
"Yes, but we still needed your fall to get to
us. We, in the midst of the emergency, did not see
it as a blessing. That came after, as did the
fruits of that lesson. I am so glad we have Sam
and Alewka as friends. By the way, they are down
visiting Eloise and Maz. Would you like to go see
them?"
"Sure, but let's go in the morning, after we
have had a good nights rest."

TODAY'S REPORT:
We, Mom and I, had quite a day yesterday. We were nearly
involved in what could have been a very serious auto accident.
While driving into the city near us, we, along with many others
hit a stretch of ice on the road. There were 5 or 6 cars rolled
over in the ditch, 6 or 8 additional cars in the ditch, 4 o 5
ambulances plus other emergency vehicles around. The
place was a mess. As we approached I attempted to slow
down. My wheels locked up immediately and we skidded
like a curling rock. I released the brakes and made for a
narrow opening in traffic. Fortunately we got through
without touching anyone. We were breathing hard there
for a moment.
Then we went and purchased a new truck. That is the
reason we were on our way into town.
Its a nice truck, used, all white Ford F150 Supercab with
a topper on the back. This unit is a 4wheel drive. That
will come in handy.
All in all it was an exciting day.

"Skipper," the sailor said to his captain as he saluted,
"A special message just came in for you from the admiral.
I have it right here."
"Read it to me," the captain ordered.
The sailor read,
"You are without a doubt the most idiotic, lame-brained
officer ever to command a ship in the United States Navy."
The skipper responded,
"Have that communication decoded at once!"
