What literary sisters used male names when they
published their novels?
The Bronte sisters -- Charlotte, Emily, and Anne -- used the
male pseudonyms Currer Bell, Ellis Bell, and Acton Bell. It was
somewhat common in earlier time periods for female writers
to adopt male names in order to be published.
What famous author read in Braille even though he wasn't
blind?
Aldous Huxley, author of Brave New World, learned Braille so
that he could rest his eyes and still read. Huxley's eyes pained
him when he read too much and his eyesight was failing. One
of the benefits of learning Braille, Huxley said, was being able
to read in the bed in the dark.

Here's an article of interest from Reuters. It could
affect a lot of people.
SEATTLE (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. will combat piracy
of its flagship operating system by requiring Windows users
to verify that their copy of the software is genuine in order
to receive timely updates and security fixes, the world's
largest software maker said on Wednesday.
Under a new verification program, users will have to prove
their copy was obtained legitimately to receive "greater
reliability, faster access to updates, and richer user
experiences" from Windows XP, the latest version of
the operating system running on over 90 percent of
the world's personal computers.
Users of pirated copies of Windows will still be able get
some updates, such as security patches, but will not be
able to get other add-ons for Windows, the Redmond,
Washington-based company said in a statement.
The new initiative, called Windows Genuine Advantage,
will start in mid-2005.
Microsoft said it will expand in February a trial
authentication program it began last fall for
English-language users to include 20 more languages.
In order to attract more users to the trial, Microsoft is
also offering downloads of add-on software and
discounts on games and online services.
Authentication will become mandatory in mid-2005 for
all users seeking to access software updates, downloads
and security fixes for Windows, Microsoft said.
Microsoft is also targeting software piracy in China, Norway
and the Czech Republic, where the use of pirated software
is more widespread, by offering discounts to users of pirated
copies of Windows.
"These customers will be offered a genuine version of
Windows at a reduced price," Microsoft said.
Microsoft said it was trying to boost the value of Windows,
which still fuels a large part of the software giant's revenue.
Microsoft said software piracy has cost the company billions
of dollars in lost income.

Body Parts: Hands and Feet
PART 6 of 7
Obviously fractures (breaks) are relatively easy to acquire.
They can be set most commonly by pulling the muscles and the
bone back into alignment. Then a cast of a flexible and quickly
drying material is added to keep the form of the newly reset
bone in place while healing occurs.
This works best for "clean" fractures in long bones, including
some finger and toe fractures. If it's a "crush" injury, or one
where the bone edges are not easily put back into alignment, a
"pin" or "plate" or a plate and screw might be used, depending
on the surgeon's "preference". And yes, those pins, plates, and
screws are just like to ones you see on home repair
shows.different material: the same concept.
(Healing)
Healing of bone "tissue" takes much longer than soft tissue. To
check the progress, x-rays are taken at different intervals to
see how much "callus" has grown at the break site. Callus is the
substance that surrounds the break during its healing.and it
might take up to six months to be able to use the toes or
fingers as before. If you can feel a lump in the break area.it
will be your callus. Your specialist will decide when it is safe
to remove the supporting cast and a strong bandage might be
applied for added protection. And the hardware? There are two
points of view.one says to leave it alone if there are no
problems. And the second point of view says to remove it when
the healing is complete and once the limb is stable. And this
does not refer to the "implants " for fractured hips where a
ball and socket have to be inserted. They are left in place.
Nails
Both fingers and toes have nails at the end. They are there for
protection. Most nail problems relate to the cuticle area.the
spot where the nail and the skin join. You can also cause major
headaches for yourself if you clip your toenail too close to the
skin. That can get infected very easily. It's an inviting place
for bacteria to grow, especially on toes. You have a warm, moist
(perspiration) dark, (socks/shoes) food laden area. Hands are
not quite as susceptible, but they are also very common sites
for infections. So a major effort in personal hygiene is
required. A daily bath with special attention to drying your
toes is encouraged. Early footcare is extremely helpful in
preventing other problems in later life, especially in diabetes.
I want to say a word here about nails and nail polish.
Nailpolish with formaldehyde or formalin is one of the most
common "triggers" of intolerances or allergies. (If you have
any sort of skin problems or wear false or acrylic nails, please
really pay attention to any unusual symptoms. The chemicals are
directly absorbed into your body through the cuticle.
Formaldehyde is found in many household goods and you may be
becoming sensitive. Often an itchy ear is an advance sign of
possible trouble. Before you run to a doctor with an allergy
problem, check your nails.)

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"I never looked at it that way but you are
right, Mr. Ben. I never thought my foot had to be
broken, but the truth is it was broken so I could
see. I am so thankful to my Maker for such
leading."
"Aren't we all? I'm glad you came to visit,
Hemno. It is nice to meet you." Ben was impressedZ
with this young man.
"Now all we need is Oomano and Romano, Riata,
Miguele and Abetta and we'd have a real reunion.
Then, for sure I'd have to call Sien."
"Why call me? I'm here." Sien had come to
visit too. He surprised everyone.
"Sien!" Eloise jumped up and went to give him
a hug and a kiss. "It is good to see you. I
haven't seen you for a long time. Thanks for
coming. So what's new?"
"Well I don't want to put a damper on these
festivities, but I have a job for all of us. We
have a terrible civil war going over in Asia.
Along with that, there was an earthquake of
devastating proportions that affected a huge area.
People are without food, water, shelter, medicines
and other things they need. There has been help
pouring in from other countries but the government
is withholding any aid to areas known to be what
they call "rebel" strongholds. The rebels
themselves are all over the country helping
wherever they can but the government is keeping
aid to a very small area. Of course the government
controls the army and the army is protecting the
cities the government feel important. What it all
amounts to is warfare by food, water and medicine.
If something is not done it will be genocide."
To a person they rose and Sam, speaking for
everyone, said "Lead on."
In that instant they were found in a very hot,
humid country that looked for all the world as if
the earthquake was everywhere. There were not only
buildings fallen down, but vehicles under them,
people trying to dig people out from the rubble,
already the stench of decaying flesh was in the
air. Children were screaming and crying, not
knowing where to go or what to do. There was work
of untold proportions to do here. Yet they did not
do it, at least not right away. They, invisible,
headed for the seat of government. There they
spread out and began to broadcast love unto all
they saw.
Sam, Ben and Sien headed to the prime
ministers office. He was holding a meeting with
his cabinet and the matter of aid was the topic of
discussion. To this government they saw not only
the opportunity to starve out the rebels working
against them, but they also saw a wonderful
opportunity to gain much wealth. There were
dollars coming in from all over the world. The
government absconded with much of the aid and used
it for personal gain. For aid that came in the
form of food and medicine they directed into
warehouses where they had control over it. For aid
that came in the form of people, the government
set up rules and regulations to hinder their
progress.
Sam, Ben and Sien witnessed the meeting and
witnessed the laughter at the stories some of the
cabinet ministers were telling. It seemed they
took great pleasure in the misery of the people.
The three men began to broadcast love and
thoughts. They produced considerable confusion.
What was once a party united in this opportunity
to walk away rich, there was now infighting. Where
there was joy and laughter there was now rivalry,
name calling and even fist fighting.
Hemno, Eloise and Sonora headed for Army
Headquarters. They were confronted by much the
same thing. The army was looting and robbing
anywhere they could. Even the women were not safe
for if they wanted anything for the safety and
welfare of their children the soldiers extracted
favors. Chaos reigned supreme and greed was
clearly administered by those in power.
Alewka, Helen, David and Pam were out above
the streets broadcasting love. Their aid worked
well except where there was greed and avarice.
From time to time they allowed themselves to
be seen and were helping remove rubble by making
it lighter. They were instrumental in bringing
many out of the demolished buildings.
Sam, Ben and Sien had disarmed the mental
prowess of those at the head of government. They
were worthless for the purpose of governing. The
first circle of influence was now broken. Next the
three of them worked on the second level of
government, then the third and the fourth. It was
not long before any decision maker was rendered
capable only of making decisions that were fair
and for all people in the land.

HA! HA! HA!
An Amish boy and his father were visiting a nearby mall.
They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but
especially by two shiny silver walls that moved apart and
back together again by themselves.
The lad asked, "What is this, father?"
The father (having never seen an elevator) responded,
"I have no idea what it is."
While the boy and his father were watching wide-eyed,
an old lady in a wheelchair rolled up to the moving walls
and pressed a button. The walls opened and the lady rolled
between them into a small room. The walls closed and the
boy and his father watched as small circles lit up above
the walls.
The walls opened up again and a beautiful twenty-four
year old woman stepped out.
The father looked at his son anxiously and said,
"Go get your mother."

REMEMBER! - IF YOU SEE IT IN thePEBBLE - IT IS SO!
Man must learn to step out of his present rut. To look at all the
things that are possible, to glance, even once, at the glories
that are available to him, can show him his possibilities. Take
that chance to step out of yourself into the realm of possibilities
and then make your choice on who and what you shall be. Let
us pray that money is not the object of your dreams for that
will limit you severely.
