TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

Was the movie "Jaws" based on a true story?

What is a will-o'-the-wisp?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Is the Great White shark the biggest shark?

The much-feared Great White shark is the biggest
MEAT-EATING shark and can grow as large as
21 feet long (Great Whites up to 37 feet long have
been reported, but not verified). Some sharks, like
the Whale shark, however, are "filter feeders" who
sieve enormous amounts of plankton through their
gills as they swim. Whale sharks are the biggest fish
and can reach up to 50 feet in length.

How many teeth do sharks have?

Sharks can have as many as 3,000 teeth at one time!
The teeth are arranged in rows, as many as five rows
at a time. Most sharks don't do much chewing, though.
They prefer to swallow their prey in large chunks.
Sharks don't have to worry about losing teeth, either.
When one tooth is damaged or lost, it is replaced
by another.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
-----------------

Your Silence Can Be Golden

A little girl became restless as the preacher's
sermon dragged on and on.

Finally she leaned over to her mother and
whispered, "Mommy, if we give him the money now,
will he let us go?"

Do you talk too much? Ask yourself that question when
you are quiet and in a mood to be honest with yourself.
Most of us do talk too much and most of us talk about
unimportant things, just trying to fill time, I guess.

Consider the advantages of being still, quiet, and letting
others do the talking. The first thing you notice is you
learn more, lots more, much of which is valuable
information.

The next thing you learn is others begin to hold you in
higher regard. It isn't that you shut up that causes them
to hold you in awe. It is that when a person is that calm
and confident in a conversation that they don't have to
continually push themselves to be front and center, then
the rest of the audience begins to think you know
something. That is especially true if, when you do speak,
you add some piece of information of truly measurable
value.

Another thing that going about your business quietly
can produce for you is that as you show you don't need
to be like the rest of the "flock" and as you show you are
on a path, trying to reach a goal, others leave the "flock"
and begin to follow.

And, finally, to offer your example of quiet confidence
will serve as a means of bringing others to a point of
offering meaningful conversation. Notice that most talk
about things or people, being occupied so much with
gossip. A true leader will most often be discussing
ideas, not things or people. A true leader has no time
for gossip, but is more than willing to explore areas
with which he/she is not familiar.

So, the next time you are involved in a gossip party
remember ...

Your Silence Can Be Golden

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson

Are Your Drugs Making You Ill?

An interesting exercise for you to do sometime is to take a
really good drug site or book and one of your personal
prescriptions or "over the counter" medicines, and check
them out for side effects. In Canada, the CPS would be
appropriate and in the USA, it would be the PDR.
Internet-wise, Medline.com is a great site.

Use the generic or trade name and read the side
effects or the possible complications. Look for this
heading:

"Side Effects of This Medicine
Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause
some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side
effects may occur, if they do occur they may need
medical attention."

(This is a note in most drug books and you really should
look for it for your own particular medication.)
Read the descriptions, and if you don't understand a
term, look it up. Don't be afraid of what you might
find…that's good as the fear is alerting you to a
potential problem. Please remember this is your body
and these chemicals are going into it WITH your
consent.

For example, if you looked up "anti-depressants, two
of the side effects listed are dizziness and tiredness.
Now if I was already depressed, I wouldn't appreciate
being dizzy and tired as well. I might accept them, if
the treatment helped, but it would an informed choice.
So be knowledgeable about your health: no will ever
care as much about it as you will. (And you have to
LIVE in the body!)

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------

Working steadily alone and in teams or pairs
the group was able to help the native's of this
land. It took a long time before all who needed
medical help received it. The closer they got to
"normal" conditions the more militant both the
government and the rebels became. The earthquake
taught them nothing. Civil war was back in full
swing, regardless of results.

Man is like that. Even when given a golden
opportunity to bring peace and cooperation to the
land they prefer, instead, to cling to their own
selfish goals and objectives. Moreover, when one
group is done, the next group comes into the same
basic philosophy. Once a bureaucracy is
established and the "cult" therein is formed not
even an earthquake can change the "status quo".
When the danger and emergency is over man will not
think about lessons learned but will do his best
to keep things exactly as they were. To change is
to create conditions man does not want. He thinks
he has the best of what is offered right now,
where he is. Only when death and destruction is
enough to take out those in control can things
begin anew and even then men will fight to regain
what was. That is especially true where conditions
are tribal.

The group of masters working invisibly and
visibly in areas of need, were able to bring about
meaningful change to individuals. They were able
to aid many. Yet in the overall life returned to
what it was. A few, here and there, were aided and
were observant enough to witness what the group
was doing. Some of these saw with open eyes and
heard with open ears.

The amount of aid that flowed into the
countryside now was such that it could take care
of those in need. The action of the group caused
supplies to leave the warehouses and get into the
field. The money was now under control and being
directed to where it would do some good rather
than go into the pockets of the few.

The one danger that remained could not be
addressed for some time. The emergency had to be
sated and a degree of normal living restored
first. That danger was the propensity of aid
organizations and aid workers exacting a price for
their efforts. Once the emergency is over such
folks set up offices and stay. They begin to
require certain action on the part of people and
governments, all in the name of benevolence of
course, and they begin to think of themselves as
being more than they are. Rather than do the good
deed and leave, they remain to have their egos
bolstered, requiring gratitude for their efforts.
They will have their rewards.

The masters decided they would return within a
couple months to deal with that situation.
Confusion would cause those guilty of such action
to leave.

This is one of the chief reasons why citizens
of one country, one in need, do not like the
government or citizens of another country. It is
not that they do not appreciate the help in a time
of need. It is, instead, the price they are forced
to pay thereafter. Developed countries aid not
only because they wish to appear humanitarian but
because it gives them an opportunity to gain a
foothold in the country needing help. Once there
they become almost impossible to dislodge and one
thing leading to another the host country soon
finds its wealth going to people from the country
that came to help. It is an age old concept of
government and is practiced by all governments.
What, on the surface, appears as a good thing
actually ends up a condition the host country does
not want.

Yet man and his governments are like that. It
is the natural tendency of those whose chief aim
is the accumulation of material goods. And that
aim is as well manifested by man's governments as
it is by the individual man.

Upon finding the condition presently under
control, the group returned to the village in
South America.

Eloise was happy to return to her children, as
were David and Pam. Both families knew the
children were safe and that the villagers would
look after them. The children were used to this
kind of thing happening for it was not the first
time.

Each of the children had been taught this was
one of the things those who live by higher law
must do. It is very important work and is required
by those who have all the advantages their Maker
offers. Each of Eloise's and Pam's children were
well on the way to becoming masters themselves. It
was merely a natural evolution and progression of
thought. Those who lived in families that lived by
higher law saw it as the natural way to live and
did not question it.
