What is a genus?
A genus is a group of closely related species. Currently,
Homo sapiens (that's us!) are alone in the genus "Homo."
Other species, such as Homo neanderthalensis
(Neanderthal man) have been on the branch in the past.
Researcher Morris Goodman of Wayne State University
School of Medicine in Detroit, head of the research team,
suggests that chimps should be added to the "Homo" genus.
At present, they are in the genus "Pan" along with bonobos
(pygmy chimpanzees).
Does this mean that humans and chimps have a common
ancestor?
The researchers think so. Tracking mutation rates in the genes,
they suggest that the common ancestor of humans and chimps
diverged from gorillas about 7 million years ago. They estimate
that humans and chimps then separated into two species about
5 or 6 million years ago.

5 Warning Signs of a Scam Business

For years now the rush has been on to mine the Internet and find
"gold." Just like miners in the old U.S. west, people flock to
the Web hoping to strike it rich. Is it possible? Sure it is!
However, those miners of old had to watch out for "fool's gold."
You - in the days of the Internet - have to watch out for scam
businesses.
Most scam business offers have five things in common. Before you
decide to invest your hard-earned money in an Internet business,
be sure to compare the offer to this list. The following warning
signs might very well help you avoid a financial disaster!
1) No Contact Information or Limited Contact Information - Most
scam artists don't want you to be able to locate them easily.
After all, if you could find them easily, so could the
authorities. That's why they often only give an email address
(usually from a free provider like Yahoo or Hotmail) and/or a
post office box. On the other hand, reputable companies DO want
you to be able to contact them quickly and easily. They'll offer
several ways... telephone, physical address, email, fax, etc.
2) No Verifiable References or Testimonials - Notice I said,
"verifiable." Anyone can make up references or testimonials that
would make you think a business opportunity is wonderful. But
can you verify them? Do they list Web site addresses or email
addresses for the people who supposedly gave the testimonials?
Is there a way to contact the satisfied customers? If not... if
you only see a reference ending with "John D. - California" -
beware.
3) Phony Association Information - Many times, we take for
granted the fact that someone offering a business opportunity is
a legitimate company just because a Better Business Bureau or
iCop logo is posted on the company's Web site. Not true! These
logos can be simply copied and pasted onto the scam artist's
site. There is a way to verify whether the company is a
legitimate member. Click the logo. If it goes to a profile of
the company (on the BBB or iCop site), you'll know this company
is an authentic member of the association.
4) "Make Thousands With No Work On Your Part" - This is the
biggest lie on the Internet today. Everyone loves the idea of
making thousands of dollars while they sleep. Is it possible?
Yes! That part isn't a lie. The statement that it will take no
work on your part is the lie. Even if the company gives you a
free Web site, free products to sell for 100% profit, and a free
shopping cart, you still have to work - and work hard! How will
people find your new Web site? You'll have to market it. That
takes a LOT of work in and of itself. Beware when people tell
you that their business opportunities take no effort from you.
5) Rushing You To Make A Decision - I'm not talking about the
product sites that offer special discounts if you buy before a
specific date. I'm talking about the business opportunity
companies that - instead of answering your questions - pressure
you to go ahead and buy in. I advise you not to trust anyone who
is unwilling to give you the information you need to make a
qualified decision. I can almost promise a scam is involved if
that is the case.
The bottom line is this: Any company offering legitimate business
opportunities will want to talk with you, will want to give you
all the information you need, will not give a false appearance of
credibility, will help you work through the financial aspects of
joining the company, and will have verifiable references that you
can contact. Beware of anyone who does not offer these things.
By keeping your eyes open for the five warning signs listed
above, you can save a lot of trouble and money.

ScanDisk and Disk Defragmenter.
As hard drives have grown in size, maintaining
them has become more time consuming. The ideal
time to run utilities is night.
The answer is the Scheduled Tasks function
You can schedule these utilities to run
anytime you like, and as often as you like. I run
them weekly.
To get started, click Start then Programs then
Accessories then System Tools and then
Scheduled Tasks. When the window opens, double
click Add Scheduled Task. That will open a wizard.
Click Next. Then: Select the tool you want (ScanDisk
or Disk Defragmenter. ScanDisk is not available in
XP, so choose Disk Cleanup.) Select the frequency
with which you want to run the tool Click Next. Select
more frequencies. Click Next For even finer
scheduling, select the "Open advanced properties"
box --Click Finish
You're all set, but remember to leave the computer
on. ScanDisk will leave you a message, telling you
whether it found any problems. Disk Defragmenter
will show you that it has completed its job. These
utilities are sensitive to other programs. If other
applications access the hard drive while they are
running, they will restart. That can make the process
interminable. So shut down the other stuff.
For instance, I have a clock program running on
my home computer, which is a Windows 98 machine.
I shut it down, along with my firewall. And I unhook
my Internet cable connection. I run ScanDisk at night,
and Disk Defragmenter during the day, when I'm away.
Do this weekly and you'll keep your hard drive in
good condition.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

Romano went over to the group of kids chasing the soccer
ball around the yard. He told them he was going inside to
eat and that he would be out when he was done.
The kids responded by saying "Cool!" and were immediately
back in the game.
Romano and Oomano, arm in arm walked into the house.
Abetta had cooked up a banquet of bacon and eggs with
toast and some fried potatoes. "You folks used so much
energy yesterday you must eat, and get some of it back."
Romano was suddenly hungry. He had been busy and not
thinking of himself or listening to his body. Now he was
hungrier than he could remember for a long while. He dug
into the food.
Riata and Oomano were also hungry. They had not eaten
since the fire last night in the village, and there they really
only snacked, out of politeness. The whole day, while
working to resolve the rabies outbreak, they had not eaten.
Now was their turn.
Abetta was a terrific cook, and knew just how to present a
meal. She truly loved, deep inside, seeing her family
eat well.
During the meal Abetta asked "Are you kids all finished
with your wedding plans?"
"I think so Mama, we know what we want to wear, we
know who is coming, we know who will perform the service,
we can get food, flowers and all else we need in the week
just before the ceremony, I can't think of anything
else." answered Oomano.
"Good. All we need to do then is find a place for all the
guests to sleep." mentioned Abetta.
"Gosh! Mama! I forgot all about that. What do you
recommend?" asked Oomano.
"I've been thinking about that." spoke up Riata, "If we were
going to have this wedding at Missy's village, they would
put up huts for each family to sleep in. Why can't we do
that here? We can place a screen of security around the
entire property that will keep out all animals and people,
then, at night, when it is time for people to go to bed, we
can manifest all the huts we need, in which they can sleep.
In the morning, when they are all up and ready to go we
can cause the huts to disappear and then we have all the
yard back again for whatever activities that might be going
on that day. I would also like to suggest we set up a place
for an evening fire. That would really bring folks together."
"That's a terrific idea." said Romano, "What do you
think Abetta?"
The place where the family resided was not in an orderly
series of blocks, streets, avenues and alleys. The family
lived on a piece of land that stretched quite a way, three
hundred to four hundred feet in all directions. Ordinarily
it would be full of junk, like most of their neighbors, but
the family kept their place all clean and filled with flowers
and gardens. With the kids there they also arranged for
a wide open area for the playing of games and the like.
They could actually put up huts around the perimeter and
leave them until the guests left, without having to dismantle
them during each day.
"I think that will be okay, if you guys also control the
weather and temperature, too. And I don't think we will
have to dismantle the huts by day. Put them up in the
corner over by the rose garden and there is enough room,
without interfering with anything that will be happening.
That way if any guest wants to get a sleep during the day,
they can. I think it will work out fine. That was a good
idea Riata. Thanks." answered Abetta.
"That way our guests will not have any traveling to do
between our place and a hotel, and they won't have to
pay any money for hotels. Gee, that works out just fine.
That is a good idea." said Oomano, she was getting excited
with the whole idea. The wedding, fast approaching, was
beginning to thrill her the more. "How many huts will we
need?"
They began to count. When finished they decided they
would need ten huts. They planned the layout to permit
a fire circle amongst them. They consumed quite a lot
of room, but they left plenty of room for all other parts of
the wedding festivities.
"When Dad gets home tonight, if he isn't too tired, I'll
corner him into going to get a couple truckloads of
wood for the nightly fire. We'll need enough for four
nights I would think. If we need more than that we will
get some more at the time." said Romano.

Our young daughter had adopted a stray cat. To my distress,
he began to use the back of our new sofa as a scratching
post. "Don't worry," my husband reassured me. "I'll have him
