How many muscles does the human body have?
Is it true that we have NO muscles inside our fingers?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
How high does SPF go?
You can get sunscreens with SPF numbers as high
as 50, but don't bother. While SPF 30 isn't FULL
protection (it protects you from about 96 percent of the
sun's ultraviolet rays), sunscreens with SPF numbers
higher than 30 don't really provide significantly more
protection.
How does exercise cause muscles to grow bigger?
Exercise produces a strain on muscles and creates
tiny tears in muscle tissue. In order to repair those tears,
the body produces proteins. If you exercise over and
over again, the proteins build up and increase the actual
size of the muscle fibers, creating larger and stronger
muscles.

Take Your Local Business Brand to the Net
by Sharon Fling
Branding. You've heard this term bandied about for years,
but what does it mean exactly? And what does it have to do
with local business?
If you think about what a brand represents, the answer is
obvious: everything. Your brand IS your business, or at
least how it's perceived by your prospects and customers.
Here's my definition: Branding is the process of
establishing, nurturing and sustaining meaningful and
rewarding RELATIONSHIPS with your customers. Notice the key
word in that sentence.
It's more than logos, slogans and marketing materials. It's
not complicated or expensive. And it's something that any
business can do, even the one-person shop. Now, the
Internet has taken brand-building to another level, even
for small local businesses. Here are some examples:
I. RELATIONSHIP IS KING
Ultimately, branding is about relationships. Relationships
enable us to attract new customers, and do more business
with existing customers. And the face-to-face nature of most
local businesses puts them in the perfect position to
create, nurture, and sustain customer relationships.
You've heard the phrase "Content is King"? Well when it
comes to sales, the "Customer Relationship is King".
Before the Internet, the relationship could only be enhanced
in person, by phone or snail mail. Obviously these methods
are labor and time intensive. In other words, costly.
But the Internet has made relationship building a lot easier
and cheaper. A website can serve as a trusty salesman,
available 24/7 to answer questions, accept requests, and
gather feedback.
And email is the jewel in the Internet's crown. Yes, in
spite of the nasty spam problem, email is and will continue
to be the killer app, the one tool that everybody uses.
With email, it's possible to have ongoing, meaningful
dialogue between brands and customers. Heck, even one-way
communication works, especially when it keeps your business
in the customer's subconscious and provides her with
valuable information that she needs. No other medium comes
close to providing this level of interaction.
Yes, the Internet can be a powerful relationship building
tool, the local business owner's best friend. Of course,
most of them don't realize it yet, but hope springs eternal.
Maybe they will, someday.
II. WHAT'S YOUR USP?
What's your USP, or Unique Selling Proposition? Why would
someone choose to do business with you over your
competition? Please don't say price. Only the Wal-Marts of
the world can afford to compete on price. Everybody else
will go broke in the process.
No, there has to be something special about your business
that sets you apart from the pack. That something is your
brand, and it's what causes your customers to prefer doing
business with you instead of your competitors, regardless of
price.
And whatever your USP may be, the Internet is the perfect
way to reinforce it. You can take your local business brand
to the Net by creating a web presence that incorporates your
uniqueness. The website can be your hard-working marketing
rep, available 24/7 to broadcast your USP and remind
customers why you are the only solution to their problems.
Local businesses have a unique opportunity here. You can
build your brand in person, and use the Internet to enhance
it. This is something that most large corporations and
online companies cannot duplicate. Yes, there is an
advantage to being "small". But how many local businesses
are using it?
III. KEEP IN TOUCH
The Internet should be the small business owner's dream.
What else allows you to easily communicate with customers,
get almost instantaneous feedback, and nurture one-to-one
relationships?
Every time you "touch" the customer, it communicates your
brand and hopefully inspires more trust and confidence in
your company. Each interaction is an opportunity to add to
(or detract from) your brand.
Here are some ways the Internet can be incorporated into
your "brand-building" marketing mix:
- Use email to notify customers of special promotions,
invite feedback, respond to inquiries
- Use the telephone (live or voice-mail) to remind
customers they can visit the website for information
or to find web-only specials.
- Encourage "word of mouth" referrals by offering
incentives; for example, a dry cleaner in Florida
offers a $25 gift certificate to the customer whose
referrals lead to 3 new online accounts.
- Include URL and email address on all company literature
and every piece of paper that may come in contact with a
customer: business cards, brochures, letterhead, fax
sheets, postcards, invoices, merchandise bags and
packaging, catalogs, snail mail; whatever the medium,
the same logos, colors, fonts and typeface should be
used.
- Include URL with all traditional advertising print ads,
television, radio, etc.); also include on company cars
and depending on the product, perhaps the merchandise
itself
To summarize, there are many customer-focused reasons for
building an online presence for your local business. One of
the best is to build your brand. The Internet offers small
businesses a cost-effective and convenient way to:
- Deliver targeted communications to prospects and
customers, and engage them in two-way conversations that
would be impossible using traditional marketing tools.
- Emphasize and reinforce your USP.
- Focus on building long-term relationships that are
profitable to both the business and the customer.
Over time, consistent brand-building will allow local
businesses to compete with larger companies in ways they
could never do before. For local business, the Net has truly
leveled the playing field.

Automate Tasks
Double click the My Computer icon. You'll see the following
dialog appear. I've highlighted the Scheduled Tasks folder.
Double click the Scheduled Tasks folder.
Note: Notice the red ("X") on two of the icons above. This means
no tasks are Scheduled for those items. Changing the view of
this window to a detailed view (Click View and select Details
from the drop down menu) provides you with Details concerning
each item in the window, as shown below:
Double click the icon you want to work with. In this case,
I've chosen the Defragmentation icon. Be sure to enable
automation by selecting this check box: Otherwise, your
task will never run. I learned this by trial and error. I couldn't
figure out why the task never operated as scheduled until I
looked more closely and found the check Box unselected.
Click the Schedule tab. Note: Select the check boxes you
need to create a schedule that works for you. This can be
changed at any time. Click the Settings tab for more options.
Select the check boxes as needed. When you're finished,
go back over the Tabs to be sure everything is the way you
want it. When you're satisfied with your options, click OK.
The screen goes away, and the task is set to be performed
at the time you've Scheduled. You can apply these same
steps to any scheduled task. Just make sure your computer
is running at that time or the task won't run.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
We get so many calls for information on Prostate
Cancer, that we have decided to run this article
again.
The PROSTATE Challenge
Ignorance MAY Be Bliss,
But It Can Also Harm You Significantly.
PART 1 of 10
I received a very interesting note this past week. The
writer wanted to alert others about possible prostate
problems and why we shouldn't neglect to test for them.
I thought this would be an excellent time to answer not
only Sam, but also many other males - or those who
really care about their male friends. In my answer, I
will "interrupt" the sentences and give explanations.
(I find that when I answer my emails like this, it gets
to the heart of the question quickly.)
So here is Sam's letter.
Hi Karin,
My name is Sam and last October I was diagnosed with
Prostate Cancer. After learning that 4 out of 7 biopsies
were in the 4-5 range, I opted for surgery and it was
successfully performed 2 weeks later. I have had
several post-op blood tests and the PSA levels are
as near zero as possible. So hopefully I'm over this episode.
Why I'm writing you is the fact that I had no prior
symptoms with this and if I hadn't gone in for my yearly
physical I probably wouldn't have been here much
longer. When they finally excised the tumor, they found
that it was close to becoming unencapsulated and
we both know, at that point there isn't much they can
do but radiation, hope and a lot of prayers.
Since you write medical articles for The Pebble and
they have such a large readership, could you explain
that all men over the age of 45 should be checked for
this? I know it's not pleasant, but it beats the alternative.
I also realize that most men experience some pain or
discomfort when this is present but if I was totally
unaware so are a lot of other men. I've talked to several
friends but most look at me like I'm crazy when I make
the suggestion. You know, it's a man thing. "No one
is putting their finger up my rectum. That's disgusting".
Thanks, Sam

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------
The two of them spoke of Eloise's wedding and how
enjoyable it was for them. They fully expected the same
thing would happen at Oomano's wedding. All three of
them were looking forward to that.
Riata explained how they had decided to put up huts
in the yard so folks could stay as long as they wanted.
She explained some of the wedding plans.
Sandra again asked about a gift. None was needed.
Oomano and Romano would enjoy their company
more than gifts.
There were some parts of Eloise's wedding Riata and
Sonora did not talk about. They did not know what
would happen at Oomano's wedding so they wanted
not to hold out any expectations.
As the girls walked they kicked the occasional stone,
like a guy would do, but here they kicked up so much
dust and dirt they decided that was not the thing to do.
The further they walked the deeper into the jungle they
went, and the further into the jungle the less dust they
kicked up. The jungle did bring rains from time to time.
They could hear the noises of the jungle, the birds, the
animals. They smelled the odors of the jungle, some
pungent, some subtle, and they could feel the energies
given off by the old growth forest that surrounded them.
All in all it was a wonderful place.
"I come here as often as I can. I get energy from this
place." said Sonora, "But, it isn't as often as I would like."
"This is terrific, Sonora." said Sandra, "There are the
plains, with the migrating herds, on one side of you
and the jungle on the other. It seems to me you have
the best of both worlds."
"It is nice, you're right." responded Sonora.
They had been walking for nearly three hours. They
decided to turn and begin the walk back.
Fortunately they had kept the air surrounding them,
comfortable. Had they continued to subject themselves
to the heat of the day it would have been intolerable
for Sandra and Riata.
The day passed without incident and the three of them
really enjoyed the break in their daily routine. They
bonded very well, and became good friends. They
agreed to meet with regularity, one time here with
Sonora, the next time at Sandra's and the next at
Riata's.
Arriving back at the hut, it was suppertime. Kenyata
was preparing the meal, and Mombudo was sitting
next to the fire smoking a pipe.
The girls sat down, and Kenyata poured them a drink.
She, too, came to sit and talk for a while.
"You girls were gone for a long time. You must have
had a lot to talk about." said Kenyata.
"Oh Mom! We had a wonderful day. It has been such a
long time since we had company I could walk with. It
was wonderful." said Sonora, with the enthusiasm of
a young woman.
Riata and Sandra joined in with similar remarks.
Kenyata knew it was good for them. It was written all
over their faces. She knew, too, there was little company
around this village for Sonora, although many of the
villagers would come to see her daily to petition for
something or other.
Within the hour Kenyata served supper. They all ate
and enjoyed the meal and each other's company. "These
kinds of days are like taking a photograph with the
heart." thought Sandra.
"You bet they are." came the thoughts back in her head
from Sonora and Riata.
Sandra looked at each of them, then laughed. A little
private joke.
Sandra and Riata thanked Kenyata for supper and
said good bye. They said good bye to Mombudo, and
then they hugged Sonora and said their good byes.
They thought they should get back to Australia.
In an instant they were there. It was midday and on the
mountain it was cool. They shivered from the change in
temperature, and adjusted to the new environment.

"How much time he saves who does not look to see what

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HA! HA! HA!
A farmer got pulled over by a state trooper for speeding
and the trooper started to lecture the farmer about his
speed, and in general began to throw his weight around
to try to make the farmer uncomfortable. Finally the
trooper got around to writing out the ticket, and as he
was doing that, he kept swatting at some flies that were
buzzing around his head.
The farmer said, "Having some problem with circle flies
there, are ya?"
The trooper stopped writing the ticket and said, 'Well
yeah, if that's what they are. I never heard of circle flies."
So the farmer says. "Well, circle flies are common on
farms. See, they're called circle flies because they're
almost always found circling around the back end of a
horse."
The trooper says, "Oh," and goes back to writing the
ticket. Then after a minute he stops and says, "Hey, wait
a minute, are you trying to call me a horse's ass?"
The farmer says, "Oh no officer. I have too much respect
for law enforcement and police officers to even think
about calling you a horse's ass."
The trooper says, "Well that's a good thing", and goes
back to writing the ticket.
After a long pause the farmer says,
"Hard to fool them flies though."
