So, Where is your Business Coming From?

Regardless of how you are traveling, you won?t get
very far without knowing where you are going. That a
Business Vision is needed to provide strategic focus
in a business, is almost self-evident. But it is also
important that you understand where your business
is coming from.
The current state of your business is an integral part
of your business strategy. If it isn?t considered specifically
when you develop your strategy, your chances of getting
your business to move in the desired direction are
reduced considerably.
Think of your business strategy as a map. When you
are traveling, maps are great for connecting two separate
locations ? your current location and your desired
destination. On the map, you can see all the roads that
that lead to your destination. But before you can plan a
route, you have to locate your current position on the map.
Once you have clearly identified your starting point,
connecting it with your destination is straight-forward.
And planning a route that will take you to your desired
destination is easy. Developing a strategy that builds
your business, is just the same.
The need to understand current circumstances in your
business, is pretty obvious. In fact, it is so obvious that
many business people overlook it. The end result is
that business strategies lack the balance and focus
required to deliver desired results.
The most effective way to understand where your
business is coming from, is to do a SWOT Analysis.
The letters in this acronym stand for Strengths,
Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. Analyzing
your business from these different perspectives, gives
you a solid understanding of the current state of play
and where you stand.
Understanding your Strengths enables you to capitalize
on them. You are able to differentiate yourself from
your competition and build a competitive advantage.
Similarly, knowing your weaknesses puts you in a
position to take suitable corrective action. You can
avoid the business being weakened any further.
Opportunities and Threats are more future orientated.
Being clear on them can mean that you respond and
adapt to your business environment in a way that puts
you ahead of the pack.
Here is how you go about doing a SWOT Analysis. Under
each heading list the important points. Together, they
are a good summary of the current state of your business.
~ Strengths ? All those things that you do, or could do,
better than your competitors. By capitalizing on these
strengths, you can define a niche market and build
a competitive advantage.
~ Weaknesses ? Things that cause difficulties in your
business. By taking corrective action, your stem the
losses caused by weaknesses. And you are able to
prevent further weakening of your business.
~ Opportunities ? Relate mostly to the market. In other
words, demand for your product and related products.
Your long-term focus is to make the most of opportunities
and become a market leader. You do this by being
responsive and adapting to change.
~ Threats ? These are things that could undermine
your success. Usually, Threats relate to competition
and changes to the rules of the game. Rules that are
imposed on you.
A common error is to mistake Strengths for Opportunities,
and Weaknesses for Threats. This can lead to confused
strategic thinking and sub-optimal strategies being
developed. So use this distinction.
Strengths and Weaknesses relate to your internal
environment. They are all elements in your business
over which you have a lot of control. So the effects
of taking action are typically short-term and fairly
predictable.
Opportunities and Strengths relate to your external
environment. Because you have little control over
them, you have to adapt to the demands of the
market and competitive pressures. The effects of
taking this type of strategic action, are felt over the
long term. The reality is that change is an ongoing
process and is gathering momentum as time passes.
Your SWOT analysis tells you why you have to take
certain actions. Your business strategy, which is the
next step in the planning process, is all about how
you are going to take this strategic action.
Doing a SWOT Analysis, is an essential block in the
strategy foundation. It focuses your attention on
important issues and challenges in your business.
This gives your strategy the energy and direction
it needs to transform your business.

Desktop
Have you recently downloaded something to your Desktop,
only to find that there's no Icon appearing on your screen?
Maybe there's so many icons on there, that it can't make its
way into view.
Reduce the size of your Icons, and reduce the space between
them! Like this ...
Right click on an empty space on your Desktop.
Left click 'Properties'.
Left click 'Appearance' tab.
Left click 'Item' drop down box.
Left click 'Icon.'
Reduce the size in the 'Size' box.
Click OK. Done!
If you want even more room you can reduce the amount of
space between them and get more icons per inch for your
money.
Go to the 'Item' drop down box again, and open it.
Left Click on 'Icon Spacing Horizontal'
Reduce the space needed in the 'Size' box
Repeat the procedure with 'Icon Spacing Vertical.'
You'll be amazed at the amount of space
you can save this way.

Here is a quick and very basic anatomy lesson. The
urinary system starts with two kidneys, which filter liquid
waste products, then send the fluid through the (2) ureters,
into the bladder, which acts as a holding tank. Once
the fluid reaches a certain level, the bladder sends the
fluid to the outside via the urethra. The bladder looks
much like a funnel and the urethra is like a hose,
connected to the base of this funnel. The prostate is
a "doughnut shaped mass of tissue that surrounds
the urethra at the base of the bladder (funnel). (It stores
a fluid to liquefy the semen.) You can imagine what
can happen when this mass of tissue starts to grow
in size. It will grow inward and outward, putting
pressure on all these organs, causing backpressure
and pain.
Problems with the prostate gland are generally related
to Benign BPH, prostatitis, and prostate cancer. Research
is being focused on three possible areas: hormonal
changes for BPH (Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy),
Bacterial (E. Coli) infections for prostatitis, and
saturated fats for cancer.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

"W-w-we-well, of course it wouldn't. But it would help us
fund the fire department to be ready for this eventuality. We
would be able to respond better, faster and with better
equipment." said the official, now a little more than nervous.
"And how much of this 'extra tax' will find it's way into the
pockets of our city officials?" asked Riata.
"Are you accusing us of being grabbers for our own
personal sake?" asked the official.
"No! I am not accusing at all. I am merely stating a fact. Will
you let me examine the books of city hall just so I can show
you the number of instances where you have already done
such things?" Riata went on the offense.
"N-n-no. I cannot give you that permission, and I will not
stand here and be accused like this. I came here to tell you
of the new ordinance and collect. That is the law and you
must obey." said the official a little falteringly.
"One more question. How many organizations in this city
qualify to pay this 'revenue sharing tax'?" asked Riata.
"Yyy-yy-you are the only one. There are none others large
enough." blurted the official unwittingly. He was becoming
scared. He knew he let out information he should not have
and that it would come back to haunt him.
"I tell you what. You bring the new mayor down here, along
with every member of council. Have them explain to us in
terms that make sense, why this law was implemented and
why we should pay and maybe we will consider it. In the
meantime, if any fire should occur within six blocks in any
direction from here, we will look directly to you as the
cause." said Riata.
"I-I-I-I can't do that. I can't require the mayor and city
officials to come down here and explain to you why they
have done what they have done!" the official was
incredulous.
"What you mean is you won't, and if you did, there is no
way they would come because their request is purely
selfish and cannot be explained in any other way. Until
they come here and explain, we will not pay the
tax." said Riata.
"Who are you anyway. I was speaking with these children
of the orphanage. Who are you to speak to me this way.
Let them speak." he said weakly.
"She has spoken. So let it be." said Amenti calmly, but
with power that nearly drove the man to his knees.
Amenti had put the matter to rest. The official knew
there was no further need of speaking. He weakly
turned and walked away.
Amenti knew this would not be the end of it. "What's
next?" he asked.
All the children had gathered around. They liked the
way Riata had spoken. She must have grown up on the
streets. She was a good fighter.
Riata gathered all the children around her, except for
those who were standing guard or working out front, and
they began to talk on this new confrontation.
"The next time they come down here to talk, we will
confuse their minds, and cause them not to remember.
This time I wanted him to return the words we used,
that he may convey to others what we know. They will
know that they are not going to get this 'tax'. They must
then plan to cause a situation to occur that will justify
their means. We must prepare for a fire, riots, floods, theft
of all kinds from or to all the businesses around, anything that
will give them an excuse to come in here and shut the
place down. They don't want to do that, they want the
money, but it they can't get the money they will not let
anyone else have it either." said Riata, "Let's work on
a plan."
"What are we going to do?" asked one of the kids.
"We are going to use higher law, Becky. Have you any
suggestions Amenti, Reno?" asked Riata of the two kids
who had committed to living by higher law.
"Not yet. But I'm sure you have some. This is a good
learning experience for us." answered Amenti.
"Well, think on this a minute. If we broadcast love within
a circle that is six blocks in all directions from here, there
will be no evil permitted within that area,
right?" asked Riata.
