Just how much do cats really sleep?
A lot. If sleeping up to 18 hours a day is your dream
life, then it's too bad you weren't born a cat. Cats sleep
quite a bit, but they don't sleep deeply as we do. Rather,
they fall asleep instantly and wake up quite often to
make sure the environment remains safe. Hence, the
term "cat nap" to refer to a short, quick nap.
Why are cats attracted to catnip?
Catnip, or Nepeta cataria, is a natural herb containing a
substance called nepetalactone. It is believed that when
cats inhale nepetalactone, it acts as a hormone to arouse
sexual feelings, or at least alters their brain functioning to
make them feel "high." Interestingly, the substance released
by the catnip plant is supposed to protect the plant by
preventing insects from eating it. Unfortunately, the same
substance causes cats to tear the plant apart.

Don't Take Unfair Advantage!

When the store manager returned from lunch, he
noticed his clerk's hand was bandaged, but before
he could ask about the bandage, the clerk said
he had some very good news for him.
"Guess what, sir?" the clerk said. "I finally sold that
terrible, ugly suit we've had so long!"
"Do you mean that repulsive pink-and-blue
double-breasted thing?" the manager asked.
"That's the one!"
That's great!" the manager cried, "I thought we'd
never get rid of that monstrosity! That had to be the
ugliest suit we've ever had! But tell me. Why is your
hand bandaged?"
"Oh," the clerk replied, "after I sold the guy that suit,
his guide dog bit me."
How many times in life do we have the opportunity to
take advantage of someone who does not know? How
many times can be benefit because the underprivileged
can do nothing about a situation?
As I look back upon my life I see such opportunities
everyday. There is always someone who knows less
on a subject than I and I can either deal with them
honorably or I can take advantage of the situation.
If money were my sole objective, as it is with many, I
would think not twice about taking the opportunity. After
all, I would justify, it was presented to me to use.
People with this attitude rarely, if ever, realize what a
wonderful chance such an opportunity is to grow as a
person. They merely look at such through the selfish
screen of money and move to that drummer.
We are given these opportunities to grow. They present
themselves that we might learn that to live by a higher
standard is much more rewarding than the fruits of
the moment.
Living by a standard that rises above expediency is to
be a strong person with a good reputation, one that
others know about and respect.
Taking advantage of the moment for your sake at the
expense of others is the low road by far. It is for you to
decide. The low road is always cloudy, dark, dingy, not
blessed at all by the real sunshine that casts itself upon
those with high standards they refuse to break.
Take the high road to your bounty and benefit. There
the sun shines bright and greater opportunity awaits.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

The day dawned cloudy, wet and cool. If it hadn't
been for those who practiced higher law it would have
been one of those dull, dreary, grey days that was
anything but inspiring.
Romano, however, took care of the weather in the
immediate surrounding area and above the city spread
a hole in the clouds that let bright sunshine in and the
warmth it brought. There would be many other days for
rain, but not these next two or three.
The guests, one by one, staggered out of their huts, as
they awoke. Soon they were all under the patio roof
having breakfast from the never ending supply of food.
Abetta was so very thankful the girls had planned and
prepared the food and beverages for the gathering. It
permitted her to be like a guest in her own house, and
that was nice, especially at such an occasion.
The morning passed quickly. When you are busy with
a bunch of people, enjoying yourself the time just passes.
Before you know it the time has passed and the occasion
is over. Then all you have left are fond memories.
Miguele was in his glory. There was nothing he enjoyed
more than associating with good friends. The girls living
by higher law brought here this day his dearest friends
and he was swept away in the love and glory of the day.
In the afternoon Sien asked if he might go over to the
orphanage just to watch and see what was happening.
Riata and the orphan kids, naturally agreed, in fact they
were pretty excited about these adults seeing where
they lived, and what they were doing. In all there were
about thirty five who wanted to go.
They organized themselves in a way to take those who
did not live by higher law, and they were off, landing right
inside the orphanage, out of sight of the crowds outside.
There was a little stir from the kids on duty, and, in fact it
was time for a shift change, so the visit was timely. Without
hesitation or discussion the kids who were going on duty
took their places, relieving the kids who had been at their
stations for four hours.
The group looked out upon the crowds. It was a marvel
how they kept on coming. From the day the shrine became
known there had been never ending crowds. For twenty
four hours a day, every day of the year, now for three
years, the crowds were still three and four blocks long.
They were even larger on the anniversary of Riata's
shooting disappearance, or on other holidays the people
considered religious.
The group marveled at how so many were healed.
"If they would but know they heal themselves by
higher law." stated Sien.
One of the youngsters asked "What do you mean?"
"All these that are healed become so because they
believe they will be healed. It is their own Maker within
them that heals because they believe. They call it 'faith
healing' but in truth it is exactly the same as if they lived
by higher law. They are healed only because they believe.
The shrine has no power whatever." answered Sien.
"But why do they not see that?" asked the child again.
"My dear one, before you came here and were able to
see how to live by higher law, you were a street orphan,
making do with what you could scrounge to eat. You
stayed in some old building that was almost falling down.
You were dirty and you thought nothing of taking things
that belonged to others. You, like all in man's world,
thought that money was the way to get the things you
wanted and you were quite prepared to steal to get it.
Do you still think that way now?" asked Sien.
"No, I do not. I don't want money. I want to live like Reno,
Amenti, Riata, you." said the child.
"Then tell me. Until you moved here would you have
been able to see through the veil of simplicity to reach
the truth you now know?" asked Sien.
"No, I guess not. Now I see what you mean. None of
these people can get away from the idea there is some
great being up in someplace they call heaven who is
reaching down to heal them on an individual basis.
Somehow it happens miraculously. Not one understands
what is happening because the church has given them
the wrong information, and they can't see past that."
