Women Pack 38 Hours Of Activity Into A 24-Hour Day
And Are Big Daytime 'Net Users

Women are voracious 'Net users, and frequently extend
the workday to accommodate their Internet use, according
to the findings of a study released today and commissioned
by Yahoo! and Publicis Groupe's Starcom MediaVest Group.
The study's findings add further proof to the premise that
daytime is prime time on the Web, and underscore the
reemergence of a women's daytime audience that
lives on the Web.
Spending time on the Internet has become the leading
media choice among women--and is second only to work,
sleep, and spending time with family in terms of being
a valued activity and resource, according to the results
of a study commissioned by Yahoo! and Publicis
Groupe's Starcom MediaVest Group.
The results of the national study, "Real Women.
Digital World: The Untold Story of Women on the Web,"
were outlined today at Yahoo!'s Sunnyvale, Calif.
headquarters during a Women's Summit for marketers.
The qualitative research study was conducted by Just
Ask A Woman, and the quantitative portion was led
by TNS Media Research.
Among the key findings of the research: Women most
often seek out news, weather, games, and financial
content on the Web; women feel justified spending
time online at work for non-work activities because
they are putting in longer hours than ever; and women
multitask between doing work at work and surfing the
'Net at work, alternating between purposeful searches
and tuning into their favorite sites. While women browse
and research online, they shop and buy both via the
Web and at physical stores.
The research found that the media habits of women
have changed inexorably over the last 30 years or
more as most women work outside the home. That
suggests that marketers and online publishers will find
most women in front of a PC at work, rather than the
TV or any other form of media during the day. The
qualitative portion of the research also found that
detailing women's overall activities in one day totaled
up to a staggering 38 hours of activity within a 24-hour
period. Multitasking has become mandatory.
"Women are doing a huge amount of multitasking,"
said Kate Sirkin, senior vice president, global director
of strategic intelligence, Starcom MediaVest Group
Worldwide. "You're on a conference call, checking
flights, [and so forth] and if we don't do that, work's
taking over. There's no way you could live your life if
you didn't multitask," Sirkin observes, as if from her own
experience. "The study is showing there's no real
breakdown between work and not work," she
bluntly asserts.
"I think that one of the important messages here for
marketers is that we now have the women's daypart
reemerging," said Wenda Harris Millard, Yahoo!'s chief
sales officer. In the 1950's and '60s, the majority of
women did not work outside the home, and the TV soap
opera was the media of choice.
"With the advent of women in the workplace, what
they're doing now is instead of going for a coffee break,
or chatting by the water cooler, they are now online in
the middle of the day, all day long," Millard said, adding:
"What you've created here is the daypart, and the news
for marketers is that there's a very effective way to
reach women during the day."
The research found that 36 percent of the working
women polled are spending more time at work than
they were a year ago. For example, the study found
that women reported spending an average of 7.3 mean
hours per day working; 4 hours with family; 2.9 hours
watching TV; 1.9 hours eating/preparing meals;
1.5 hours listening to the radio; and 1.2 hours with
friends.
"The other thing that I think that was a revelation [for us]
and that has been a common consensus is that women
are task-oriented, but this research shows that they do
use the Internet for searching and browsing--it's not
just for destination-related activities," Millard said.

Name That Shortcut
You can change the name of a shortcut. If a shortcut icon is
already highlighted, press the F2 key to invoke the Rename
function. If it isn't highlighted, right-click the icon and then
click Rename on the context menu. When you see a black
box around the name, type the new name and then press
Enter.
Give your shortcuts names that are long enough to be
meaningful, but not so long that they fill up the Desktop.
Windows wraps names to fit in the icon grid on the Desktop.
It shortens single words with ellipses. You can't use these
symbols in a shortcut name.

That Might Help You Deal With Health News Headlines

Let me give you an example of someone who had never made this
kind of commitment with himself. A gentleman called me a few
days ago. Following a few questions, it became apparent that he
felt victimized by advertising and large corporations. He felt
they needed to be punished for making him less than healthy. I
asked if someone had come to his house and forced him to go to
eating-places he didn't want to visit. I asked if someone had
also forced him to eat this type of food. I then asked if
someone forced him to watch commercials or read magazine ads? He
felt "we" were completely educated to think this was the
healthiest and only way to eat. Nothing I suggested changed his
thinking. Nothing was his fault. It was all the responsibility
of the advertisers that he now was overweight and couldn't feel
healthy. He assumed no responsibility for reading and following
advertisers' suggestions. I wanted to help him understand his
symptoms and why he had them and what he might do to reverse
them. I wanted to give him some information that would allow him
to take back control over himself with his food intakes and his
physical needs. He wasn't in the least receptive. Here is a
grown man, feeling completely at the mercy of others. But he
will continue to allow it to happen. And he didn't appreciate
that only HE could make any changes.
I find it amazing to think our world is so influenced and
controlled, and we allow it! You know that most of the headlines
are negative. Some are positive. And many are sensational and
more of an annoyance than a help. It's not a secret that bad
news sells: good news does not. So here is how your filtering
system would help you. Decide what you will tolerate and what
you want (and it's never too late to do this "research".) Don't
make these decisions lightly but really believe they will allow
you to have a protective zone by which all things are screened
before they come to you. This really helps you to feel in
control.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

The drums regular cadence began to crescendo into
a drum roll that climaxed with Miguele letting go of
Oomano's hand, lending a very dramatic flair to the
moment.
Miguele took up a position next to Abetta.
Romano and Oomano stood in front of Sien. They were
each partially turned to face each other while, at the
same time, with only head movement, faced Sien.
Their touch, at the hands, was electric. Love passed
between them as if they were wired.
Sien raised his hands as in blessing over the crowd.
From them could be seen a visible light extending
outward above the crowd confirming upon them a
blessing of peace and love.
"This man and this woman are here today to commit
themselves to the state of matrimony. If there is any
person who knows of any reason why they should not
make this commitment, let them speak now, or hereafter,
forever, hold their peace."
Siens statement placed an immediate air of seriousness
over the proceedings. It is always an awkward moment
at any wedding. All present knew there would be no
person speaking against the marriage, yet, in all, there
was an apprehension.
There was silence.
"Oomano and Romano have each decided, some time
ago, they would live their lives by what we call higher law.
Therein each has become a master. When that is done by
any individual, there is little man can do to control them any
longer. Therefore man's laws do not work, as far as their
commitment to each other is concerned. That commitment
was made long ago in the hearts of each of these two young
people and it remains only for this ceremony to give public
recognition to the vows they have each already made to
the other." said Sien in a voice that was at once calm and
filled with authority.
He went on, "And so we gather here today not only to
witness their agreement and commitment one to the other,
but to share in this most auspicious of occasions. It is such
a life changing event, filled with enormous and serious
meanings as they go through life, that they wanted to share
with you the moment when they made those commitments."
"By your care, concern and love for these two, as shown
by your presence, you also make a commitment. You are
making a commitment unto them that as best you can you
will at all times and places be a help to them, support them,
encourage them and love them. These two are not only
man and wife, joined at the hand and heart, in ceremony
and emotion. They are soul mates, wherein they become
one. You shall not speak with one without now meaning
the other. You shall be ever mindful that each of them
individually, now speaks for both. They function as a unit
and while you may only see one, that one represents
both in all things."
"Being masters of higher law, they now are truly equal.
They have transcended man's normal condition of always
having a dominant character in a relationship. Each has
demonstrated their capability on a much higher level than
most men can comprehend, and each has enough respect
for the other to require equal input in all situations."
"They have learned that regardless of backgrounds,
education, desires, goals or present circumstances they
must commit, now, for always and all times, they will
communicate with each other for only in that way can
any misunderstanding be resolved."
"They must also, now, commit to trust one another
implicitly, in all matters, at all times and places, and in
all circumstances. With these two weapons, trust and
communication will they live many lifetimes together.
Without it they will not last, for these two ingredients
transcend the emotion of love. This commitment will
keep them together, happy and fruitful, when the master
plan of emotions wear thin and reality is the order of the
day. These two, trust and communication, alone, will
make this union powerful."
Looking at Romano and Oomano he said, "Are each
of you ready to make this commitment unto each
other in the presence of all here attending?"
He looked at Oomano. "I am."
He looked at Romano. "I am."
And the drums rolled.
