TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

When did people first begin drinking tea?

What did Thomas Edison invent?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Can coffee sober up an intoxicated person?

No. This is a dangerous myth. There is NO known way to
lower blood alcohol levels. Alcohol is eliminated from the
body's circulatory system by the liver at a rate of about one
half-ounce per hour and there is no way to speed up this
process. Drinking coffee MAY relieve the effects of a
hangover by reducing dehydration.

How old is coffee?

Avicenna, an Arabian philosopher, introduced coffee as a
medicinal tonic around 1000 AD. He called it "bunc". The
drink didn't really catch on as a social beverage in Persia
and Arabia until the 16th century...when the first Starbucks
appeared. (OK--the part about Starbucks is a joke. The
rest is fact.)

STRANGE BITS AND PIECES!

In 1926, a waiter in Budapest committed suicide. He left his
suicide note in the form of a crossword and the police had to
get help from the public to solve it.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
-----------------

Is The Captain Aboard?

A young ensign had nearly completed his first overseas
tour of sea duty when he was given an opportunity to
display his ability at getting the ship under way. With
a stream of crisp commands, he had the decks buzzing
with men. The ship steamed out of the channel and soon
the port was far behind.

The ensign's efficiency has been remarkable. In fact,
the deck was a buzz with talk that he had set a new
record for getting a destroyer under way. The ensign
glowed at his accomplishment and was not all surprised
when another seaman approached him with a message from
the captain.

He was, however, a bit surprised to find that it was a
radio message, and he was even more surprised when he
read, "My personal congratulations upon completing your
underway preparation exercise according to the book and
with amazing speed. In your haste, however, you have
overlooked one of the unwritten rules. Make sure the
Captain is aboard before getting under way!"

This is amazing isn't it. How many times do we jump into
something ready to really give it all we can, only to find
out later we have to go back and start over?

Because of incomplete preparation, or assuming, we
spent our efforts on something that must be redone. We
assume that all is in readiness when we start only to
find out it was not.

That can be embarrassing, but worse yet it signifies an
attitude of mind that can harm us.

I once read a story where Henry Ford wanted to hire
an engineer for a particularly difficult task. He took the
engineer out to lunch. When the meal was served the
engineer immediately took the pepper and salt and
seasoned his meal.

Henry Ford did not hire the man. The man had assumed
the meal was insufficiently seasoned for his taste. He
seasoned it without even tasting it. Those kind of
assumptions might cause him to overlook things in
the task Henry Ford had in mind.

So think of the question Is The Captain Aboard?, as
a kind of checklist where you ensure you are truly
ready to begin your task. Assume nothing.

Is The Captain Aboard?

Your Immune System: How It Serves You
And Why You Need To Keep It Healthy
PART 3 of 4

How would you overload or cause your immune
system to malfunction? By using up its supply of
antioxidants at a rate higher than what your body is
supplied. In other words, what you eat doesn't supply
enough nutrients to power the system consistently.

You do that in several ways. We continue to use
antibiotics to "cover" everything. We now realize
that this was just adding more problems. Every
chemical going into your body is seen as an
enemy: a free radical. (This is why you should
not overdo the use of anti-bacterial soaps: most
people have no real need for them.)

A majority of the illnesses that afflict us are related
to negative nutritional factors (a diet high in animal
fat, protein, and cholesterol, and low in fiber), lifestyle
(tobacco smoking, excessive alcohol consumption,
excessive exercise), and the environment (chemical
carcinogens, ozone depletion, air pollution, industrial
toxins).

What can you do to help insure that your immune
system has what it needs in order maintain optimal
health? The answer is very complex.

Most research concludes that the answer depends
strongly on your nutritional and lifestyle choices.
Become aware of the connection amongst all these
factors. Educate yourself about "oxidative stress".

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------

"I think we understand that. At least it is
apparent we did not like some of the things you
said even tonight. My Dad taught me, as a youth,
that if I did not like something I should have a
look at it. That way I could make a decision on my
own as to why I didn't like it. He showed me that
often we don't like things that in fact are good
for us. It isn't that we don't like what is new.
What we don't like is the leaving of the things we
understand in favor of things we don't understand.
All new things are uncomfortable at first. He
showed me how to explore those things until I had
enough information with which to make a decision."

"Your Dad is a wise man."

"He certainly showed me that is a way to look
at new things in business. If we did not keep an
open mind we would long be left behind. Can you
imagine us not selling television sets because we
did not understand them or didn't like them?"

"That is the point, Brock. Higher law is the
same. It is there for everyone. In that all people
are equal. One simply has to explore to see if
higher law is what they really want. And, just
like everything else, there is a price to pay.
Nothing comes without a price. If you want to
visit here with us tonight that prevents you from
doing other things. That is the price you pay for
having us over tonight. It is the same with all
things. There is some kind of a price that one
must pay for everything."

"So what you are saying then, you two, is that
to live by higher law brings to us the ability to
do some of the things we have seen you and your
family do, that we can actually have all we want,
can do what we want to do and actually have all of
life before us?"

"Yes, but you own nothing. If you embark on
this path you must make both the decision and
commitment that nothing comes before your Maker,
nothing."

"That sounds hard."

"I agree it is a considerable change of mind
and habit, but it is not hard. Only you make it
so. The next thing you must learn deep into the
core of your being is the law 'As ye sow, so shall
ye reap.' That will be the foundation of your
future. Once you learn that and all the
ramifications of it you will see how higher law
works. Earlier I gave you two bible passages to
look at. I think it would be a very good idea if
you were to read and study just those two,
everyday, however boring it might seem, until you
begin to receive insights from within as to what
they mean. When that begins to happen you can then
progress to other things."
(Matthew 6: 19 - 31 and Matthew 21: 21 & 22)

"I think we can do that. I don't know that we
will do that. I am certainly not promising
anything, but we are certainly able to do that. We
will discuss it and come up with a decision. If we
follow that you already told us how we can reach
you. Boy! You sure made this night a memorable
one. I wondered what had happened to you and how
you were making out."

"Mary, do not take offence. We came not to
offend but to visit. Many learn that the path to
living by higher law is not always smooth but
filled with detours, roadblocks and challenges.
Many fall by the wayside. Living by higher law
first takes commitment to live this way without
alternative. Once the lessons begin to kick in you
will find you don't want to live any other way."

"I know, Eloise. I was offended but I can see
that is because of my knowledge. I can see that if
my knowledge expanded to include some of the
things we spoke of tonight I might not be so
offended. I just didn't expect it, I guess. I
really didn't know who you were or what had become
of you. Times are not like they were when we used
to have sodas and ice cream down at the restaurant
after school. Much has happened since then."

"I have seen, Mary, that all of life is
change. Some of it we like and some of it we
don't. It is up to us to select the way we want to
go and we receive the rewards of those decisions.
Many seem to float through life as if they had no
control whatever. That is sad when they have the
opportunity to live as Jesus would have them
live."

"Well, you certainly made the right choice to
take that trip. You are a very fortunate woman to
have been selected. Look at all that money you now
have. That made it all worthwhile, I would think."
Mary was back on the material good path.

"Mary, I haven't touched one penny of that
money. In fact I had forgotten all about it until
you just now mentioned it. I must make
arrangements to give it all away. I forgot about
that."

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!

"To grow, you must be willing to let your present and

---- Alan Cohen

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

HA! HA! HA!

Two men were sitting next to each other at a bar. After
a while, one guy looks at the other and says, "I can't
help but think, from listening to you, that you're from
Ireland." The other guy responds proudly, "Yes, that I
am!" The first guy says, "So am I!  I think we should
have a drink to that!

And where about from Ireland might you be?"

The other guy answers, "I'm from Dublin, I am."The
first guy responds, "Sure and begora, and so am I!  Why
don't we have a drink to that.

And what street did you live on in Dublin?"

The other guy says, "A lovely little area it was, I
lived on McCleary Street in the old central part of
town." The first guy says, "Faith & it's a small world,
so did I! We really must drink to that!

And to what school would you have been going?"

The other guy answers, "Well now, I went to St. Mary's
of course."

The first guy gets really excited, and says, "And so
did I. Surely another drink is in order.

Tell me, what year did you graduate?" The other guy
answers, "Well, now, I graduated in 1964."The first guy
exclaims, "The Good Lord must be smiling down upon us!
I can hardly believe our good luck at winding up in the
same bar tonight. Can you believe it, I graduated from
St. Mary's in 1964 my own self." St. Pattie would never
forgive us if we didn't have a drink on that!

About this time, another guy walks into the bar, sits
down, and orders a beer.

The bartender walks over shaking his head & mutters,
"It's going to be a long night tonight, the Murphy
twins are drunk again."
