OPTIMIZE LIFE NOW!

Put The "Vacate" in Vacation
There's a good reason why we call it a vacation. It's
the time that we set aside to forget all the have-to's
and should's of daily life and indulge in rest and
recreation. In fact, it's re-creation! Reduce your
stress. Relieve your anxieties. Relax your body. Rest
your mind.
Is that how you plan your vacation? Time completely
away from the everyday demands, the usual way you use
your time.
Now, do you believe the old adage that a change is as
good as a rest? I'm not so sure. It could be that
that is just one more justification for working through
your supposed vacation. Sure, it's a relief to have
the garage cleaned or the basement relieved of its
excess. And, yes, sometimes time off work is the only
available time to take care of aging relatives or
medical emergencies. It may be all we can afford and
the price is high. We need some insights and
strategies to keep life balancing. Here are a few
ideas.
1) COST-FREE DAILY VACATIONS
Unbelievable! What a bargain! How do you do this?
You may have noticed that sometime during the day you
find your shoulders up by your earlobes. They seem to
assume that position towards the end of the day quite
frequently. Keeping them there takes a lot of energy.
To show yourself just how much energy it takes, try
this:
Take your shoulders up to your earlobes and keep them
there. Take a deep breath in through your nose and
sigh it out your mouth. Keep your shoulders up! Isn't
that hard work?
Now, take a breath in through your nose and release it
through your mouth. Let your shoulders do what they
naturally want to do. Ah, a cost-free, luxury
vacation!
Do it several times a day.
2) YOUR SACRED HOUR
You have 168 hours each week. Could you spare just
seven of them? Of course, you could. That's just one
TV drama a day, one third or one quarter of a football
or golf game.
A sacred hour a day can make all the difference in your
attitude, your approach and your health. Take that
time for yourself.
If right this minute, your head is filled with 'Yes,
but's....", STOP! Most people waste far more than one
hour a day. You can find time to preserve your sanity
and practice balancing. No need for a stopwatch.
Simply look for exchanges you might make, e.g., one
hour of mindless television for a half-hour walk and a
half-hour meditation, journaling or rest.
When I work with my coaching clients, I ask them to
begin with clarifying their values, the principles they
want to live from and within. That makes it easier to
decide how to use time.
Give yourself an hour a day. It will restore you and
keep life in perspective.
3) PUT THE 'VACATE' in VACATION
No matter how long you choose to leave the daily world
behind, truly do leave it behind. I recently watched a
commercial on television. A family was leaving on
vacation with their SUV all packed, joyfully reciting
all the things they had left behind: cell phones, fax
machines, email, television, TIVO, DVD...and, all of
sudden, there is a screech of brakes and a hard
U-turn. Camping gear flying from the roof, the family
heads back to town saying, "What were we thinking?"
They were thinking 'vacation' in the truest sense, but
reality caught up to them. They came close to having
to amuse themselves, to spend time with themselves, to
be in relationship with living, breathing creatures
without the aid of technological devices. For some,
hiding behind technology is a safety net--the
relationship is with the screen. No people involved.
Or, the converse: staying in constant touch with others
fills every moment, makes us feel indispensable and
prohibits us from looking at our own lives
very deeply if at all.
Learn to enjoy your own company, to spend time alone.
Learn to nurture yourself, nourish yourself with what
truly feeds your mind, heart and soul. That is what
balances you.
So, if your idea of a vacation is filling every minute,
change your mind. Slow down. Relax. Refresh.
Rejuvenate. Revitalize. You deserve it...and you are
the only one who can give it to you! Start now. Don't
wait for tomorrow. You well know that it never comes.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson
Hepatitis A
At this moment in our town, one of our major
catering outlets: a favourite with many people
who need quick meals, (not fast foods) is battling
some very bad publicity. They are experiencing
the negative results of one of their staff passing
along the Hepatitis A virus to several innocent
customers. Why is Hepatitis bad for you?
Hepatitis A is a viral condition in which the
liver is inflamed and can become diseased.
The liver has many, many functions. So if it is
"under attack" by some disease, it is unable to
perform all those "500 plus" activities it is known
to do. In a chain reaction, the rest of the body, which
depends on these functions and free flow of the
normal activities, slows down as well. That is why
symptoms like malaise: a feeling of total tiredness
and "unwellness", are so prevalent. Toxins aren't
being removed through the liver's filtration system,
and are still circulating inside the body.
How do you get Hepatitis A? In this case, a food
handler neglecting to wash their hands after using
the toilet facilities probably spread the virus. They
would then handle food products and whatever
micro-organisms were on the hands, would be spread
to the food. And in an establishment such as a food
take-out place, where food is kept at warmish
temperatures, micro-organisms spread rapidly. As
soon as an outbreak is identified, the public health
authorities usually set up emergency clinics and
administer gamma globulin to anyone who thinks
they might have been exposed to this disease. As
the symptoms are low grade and slow in appearing,
it is a challenge to vaccinate everyone. Vaccination
will boost the immune system to tone down or
eliminate the effects of the disease. Rest and special
dietary restrictions are also major parts of the
treatment. In Hepatitis A, a complete recovery is
always expected. However, the very best protection
you can have is a well-functioning and protective
immune system. Then whatever pathogens
(disease-causing micro-organisms) cannot harm
you. And as with all prevention, proper and thorough
hand washing is the second best method of prevention.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

Neither Mary nor Brock had seen David Wiley
for a very long time. The last they saw of him he
was the bullying sort who pushed people around and
who was still a child beneath that image. It was
immediately apparent to both Mary and Brock that
David was a changed man. David, now, living by
higher law had no one and no thing to fear. That
permitted him the opportunity to relax and be
himself. This village aided that very much for
both David and Pam. The result was David was now a
man with whom folks liked to associate. That
immediately was picked up by Mary and Brock.
"Come around to our fire circle and sit. Let's
get caught up on old times." David invited them
all to sit. It was uncomfortable for Brock and
Mary at first, but they soon settled in.
This meeting of old friends placed old
memories into the heads of each. All had something
in common except Mazunta. He didn't mind for he
knew his wife and liked to see her enjoy herself.
Over the next hour the group got pretty much
caught up. There was much to talk about.
But then it was time to leave. Eloise brought
the party to an end. "Sorry to break this up folks
but we've been away for a little over an hour and
I think Brock and Mary want to get back to their
kids."
"Oh, my God. I forgot about the kids. I must
go." Mary was in a state of slight panic. She was
embarrassed that she had enjoyed the meeting so
much she forgot about her own kids.
"Mary, relax. The kids are fine and safe. I
set that up before we left. All is well." Eloise
did what she could to calm Mary.
Saying their good byes, the visitors vanished
only to reappear again in the Stanley household.
Mary went immediately to find the kids who
were all watching TV in the family room and didn't
even know the folks were missing. Thus assuaged,
Mary returned to her guests.
"That was a nice visit. Do you like living
there Eloise? No offence Mazunta."
"Yes, Mary. I chose to live there. Living by
higher law means we could live anywhere in the
world. We do not measure values as man does. So we
do not have preconceived ideas of keeping up with
the Joneses or other things man does."
"But what about your kids? How about their
education?"
"Mary you are on the same track as you were
about the money. You are measuring by the
standards you know without consideration to
different standards. Our children when living by
higher law will have more knowledge than everyone
at all universities put together. They can and
will have any answer to any question any one can
ask. I think that is educated enough.
Additionally, living by higher law easily permits
one to dress according to the environment in which
one finds oneself. You can see how Mazunta and I
are dressed. Yet you also just now saw how David
and Pam, and us, dress in the village. None of
those things are important to us for we can adapt
instantly. So, our children will be far better
prepared for the world than most."
"It's all so hard for me to imagine. But I do
remember being in your village. How did we do
that?"
"We are able to travel like that, Mary. I
won't explain it to you. It is enough for you to
know it can be done."
"I had a wonderful time, Eloise, Mazunta.
Thank you for taking us there. I like your home
and I can see why you like living there. I can
well see you have none of the difficulties or
pressures we face here on a daily basis. I envy
you and your way of life." Brock was able to see
through the lifestyles of each couple and
appreciate what living by higher law might mean
even to him.
"Thank you for the wonderful evening. I think
it is time for us to leave. I enjoyed the visit
and I hope we hear from you in the future. Mary,
thank you for your hospitality. Brock, thank you
for inviting us into your home."
With that Eloise and Mazunta rose and the
Stanleys escorted them to the front door.
Eloise and Maz walked down the sidewalk and
onto the city sidewalk. They walked hand in hand
for a while until they gradually vanished and once
more were at the cabin.
It was now dark out and the kids were having
their game of Kick The Can.
"Hi Daddy, Mom. Thank you for looking after
the kids. We had a nice time over at Brock and
Mary Stanley's."
"Hi you guys. Good to have you back. All is
well. No troubles." Sam spoke in his matter of
fact way that made everyone assume there would
never be any trouble.

HA! HA! HA!
Instructions on how to clean your toilet.
1. Put both lids of the toilet up and add 1/8 cup of
pet shampoo to the water in the bowl.
2. Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him
towards the bathroom.
3. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet
and close both lids. You may need to stand on the lid.
4. The cat will self agitate and make ample suds. Never
mind the noises that come from the toilet, the cat is
actually enjoying this.
5. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides
a "power-wash" and rinse".
6. Have someone open the front door of your home. Be
sure that there are no people between the bathroom and
the front door.
7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and
quickly lift both lids.
8. The cat will rocket out of the toilet, streak
through the bathroom, and run outside where he will dry
himself off.
9. Both the commode and the cat will be sparkling
clean.
Sincerely,
The Dog
