that became waterlogged -- and thus decaffeinated.

addiction, I will

Thou preparest a carafe before me in the presence of

anointest my day with pep; my mug runneth over.
Surely richness and taste shall follow me all the days
of my life, and I
will dwell in the House of Mocha forever.
Sad, but Oh, so true. This, of course speaks of
physical addictions like coffee, cigarettes, alcohol or
worse. Yet there are other addictions (habits) I want
to discuss here.
Those habits are the habits of mind that control your
universe. All you are, do and have is a reflection of
your thinking. Change your thinking and you change who
you are, what you do and what you have. Be that more or
be it less, be it up or be it down all you will ever
be, do, have is a direct function of the way you think.
Understanding that is a huge step toward controlling
your own life so it can be what you want. But there is
something else you must take into account ... habit.
Our mental processes function by habit. That is to say
we habitually react to similar stimuli the same way
every time. It is because of this the police are
trained to watch for certain clues, certain
characteristics. They know a criminal will do things
the same way all the time.
You can change and control this "habit" mechanism. You
can control the way your thinking functions, including
this habitual reaction thing. Doing so will place you
where you want to be. And, if you have courage enough
to sit and look at it you will find it is under your
control. Take hope. Take courage. Once you learn then
you are well on the way to living as you would want. It
is true ...

What to Use for Insect Repellant -- Hint: It's not DEET

local or national media, you would be convinced that DEET is the
best thing since sliced bread. Wrong.)

A recent NEJM showed that Insect repellants containing the
chemical DEET are more effective mosquito deterrents than other
synthetic repellents or plant-derived products.
DEET (N,N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide) is a chemical that was
patented by the US Army in 1946 and is still recognized as the
most effective mosquito repellent available. However, many
consumers may balk at applying DEET to their skin and instead
try plant-based products or other alternatives.
The researchers pitted several DEET-based insect repellents
against seven botanical products and another synthetic repellent
containing a compound called IR3535. The researchers also tested
three wristbands containing either DEET or citronella, a plant
oil common in botanical insect repellents.
They found that, overall, DEET products offered longer-lasting
mosquito protection to the 15 volunteers tested. A formulation
with 23.8% DEET provided just over 300 minutes of complete
protection, according to the report. That compared with about 23
minutes with the IR3535 product, and an average of less than 20
minutes for most botanicals, which were largely
citronella-based. None of the wristbands were effective.
One plant product was, however, comparable to the
lowest-concentration DEET product. This soybean-oil-based
repellent provided about 95 minutes of complete protection, on
average, the investigators found.
In addition, Fradin and Day tested a eucalyptus-oil product that
was introduced in the US after their study was completed. Among
six volunteers, the product provided an average of 2 hours of
mosquito protection.

The chatter continued until well past
midnight. That was the way of things on such warm
and wonderful evenings as this one. Much of the
conversation revolved around commitment and the
things that would sidetrack the Sparks from
reaching the results they wanted.
Once one begins the journey old habits of
thinking begin to come into the picture and they
appear to do their best to distract one from
reaching higher law. That is why commitment is so
necessary.
When quiet and in meditation the body's
physical processes make an appearance. One's
libido will act up and take your thinking away on
a journey that will keep you from reaching your
goal.
One's fears put in an appearance and put forth
great effort to convince you that you are on the
wrong path.
One's ego tends to take one long past higher
law and generate excitement, emotion and false
thoughts of what higher law is all about.
Greed and avarice slip in unnoticed and begin
to have you think you can have that new boat, that
big house and that fancy car. It can subtlely take
you way back to the place you started and you will
then have to kick yourself into reality again.
"All these things will take you off track,
detour you from the right path, and most certainly
delay your journey. They will produce frustration,
doubt and anger. They will have you thinking you
are tired and want to get back to the way things
were before you made the commitment. Darryl,
Evelyn, all these things you can look forward to
and while each can be properly handled they are
sneaky in their approach. You will find you are a
long way involved before you notice, then you must
start over." Sam was laying it on. He was not
exaggerating, not a bit. That is what happens when
one embarks on the path.
"So," he went on, "one of the real lessons
that comes from committing to living by higher law
is the lesson of controlling the thought processes
in your mind. You will learn to "see" through your
"third eye". You will learn to do, have, be,
without conversation in your head. You will learn
that power and prosperity reside in the quietness
of your mind rather than in bombastic presentation
for the sake of attention. You will see that calm
has more power than any amount of false activity,
or activity that is founded on greed and avarice.
You will come to see and KNOW your Maker and at
that point you will cross over the veil of
simplicity into a world that functions by higher
law. You will then see it is no more difficult
than going to university or college and learning
your career in your chosen field. It will all come
down to the control you exercise over your
thoughts, now and always. Once they, your
thoughts, are taught to go the way you direct,
then you are a master."
"Sam you make it sound very difficult. I know
I have said this before but it does sound hard."
"Darryl, all of us have had those thoughts
when we first began. Then you soon learn that to
control ones thoughts is the essence of mastery.
Once you no longer are tossed to and fro by
thoughts that impose themselves upon you then you
can see the laws of your Maker. Belief begins to
soak into your psyche, knowledge becomes available
and you suddenly KNOW you are a master. Then, as
Jesus said, 'if ye have faith and doubt not ..."
you will be able to do all things. How about you
Evelyn? Are you similarly thinking what Darryl
is?"
"To some degree, Sam. Coming at it from a
woman's angle, though, there are some things that
are not quite so strong and some that are
stronger. Darryl is likely more prone to his
libido acting up than I, but I am likely more
fearful about security than he."
"Fairly said. That is the difference between
men and women. Yet your thoughts will be just as
devastating if you permit them access. You must
control those thoughts just as completely.
Remember, you will have the ultimate security once
living by higher law. Nothing in man's world can
offer you that kind of security, nothing."
"I know, Sam. Alewka and I have talked
separately about this and that was one of my
concerns. She straightened me out on that long
ago. As I listen to you, here tonight, I am
impressed once more about the command to put our
Maker first, all the time, in all things, always
first. Once we learn to do that we will have the
power."
"Well said Evelyn. Well said."
