When did Great Britain become the United Kingdom?

How did California get its name?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Is it true that J.K. Rowling is now one of the richest women
in the world?

J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series of books has certainly made
her wealthy. The British author is now said to be wealthier
even than the Queen of England.

When did Persia change its name to Iran?

Actually, Persia has always been Iran. The inhabitants of the
country have always referred to their nation as Iran or "Land
of the Ayrans." Westerners, however, called the country Persia,
starting in about 6th century BC, taking the name from a southern
region of the country. In 1935, Iran formally requested that the
rest of the world start calling them by their proper name, Iran.
The nation is now officially "The Islamic Republic of Iran."

Tips And Tidbits

Putting Flesh on Phones
by Daniel Terdiman

Earlier this week, Wicked Pictures, a leading XXX
production house, inked a licensing deal with
Brickhouse Mobile, one of the companies leading the
charge to bring porn to cell phones.

The two firms hope the pact will result in adult fare
for mobile customers around the world.

They have many reasons to expect a lucrative
relationship. The Yankee Group predicts the mobile
adult-content business to be worth $1 billion worldwide
by 2008, while Juniper Research has it at $2.1 billion
by 2009.

Either way, it's big bucks.

But not necessarily in America. Adult content has been
available for a couple of years in Europe and Asia, but
conservative U.S. carriers -- and an anti-porn
administration -- have the adult industry taking it
slow to put flesh on U.S. phones.

Still, some carriers are offering mobile ring tones
using the voices of well-known porn stars, or "moan and
groan tones."

Others sell sexy wallpapers, saucy stills or short
video clips. Most is mild: swimwear and lingerie rather
than anything hard core.

But the mobile porn industry expects cell phones to be
like cable TV: a little flesh at first, then more --
maybe a lot more -- as the medium matures.

This is where Brickhouse Mobile steps in: The company
aims to broker deals between the porn industry and
carriers.

Wired News talked to Brickhouse President Clinton
Fayling about the Wicked deal, the industry, regulation
and more.

Wired News: Explain why the Wicked deal matters?

Clinton Fayling: Wicked is one of the leading adult
film studios. Part of Brickhouse's plan is to work with
top-tier clients in the adult space. With Wicked, we
will develop mobile content from their existing
inventory of photographs and video. We will also work
with them to create content that is custom for the
mobile environment, like ring tones featuring their
contract stars, photos and video shot with the mobile
format in mind. We believe mobile will have a bigger
impact on the adult industry than even the internet. We
are going to work with carriers and abide by their
standards and practices. For the U.S. market, that
means featuring Wicked contract stars in lingerie and
bikinis. Internationally, we will offer nude content.

WN: Why do you think mobile will be bigger for adult
content than the internet?

Fayling: Because mobile is truly a personal device.
Your computer may be viewed or used by a family member,
friend or co-worker, but the phone is something that
rarely leaves the owner's sight. The viewing experience
is different, but mobile content is intended for short
periods of viewing time. Internationally, acceptance
has been swift. It has been slower in the U.S., because
we've been spoiled by broadband. But we will catch up.

WN: What do you think of the projections for the mobile
adult-entertainment market?

Fayling: The projections are all over the map. But I
fall back to the lessons learned with the internet. One
of the great features of the mobile phone is internet
access virtually anywhere. If typical adult consumers
access the internet via their PCs, why wouldn't they do
the same wirelessly? The only factor that could skew
the numbers is the type of adult content that can be
accessed via your mobile phone. We are playing by the
carrier rules, and we understand they want to move
ahead cautiously to balance their subscribers'
interests and concerns.

Headlines & Stress - A Simple Filtering System
That Might Help You Deal With Health News Headlines
PART 2 of 5

What does a headline actually mean? Often it has little relation
to the actual information. You have to read most, if not all, of
the article and may still be confused. Some of the headlines are
a bit scary or negative. Many of them are positive but with a
caution. Nothing offers an absolute or clear picture that helps
you learn something of value immediately. Just more confusion.
Nothing to rely on. Nothing to feel confident and relaxed
about. Just more heart-racing stress.

Why did it catch your attention in the first place? Do you have
heart disease in your family like the very first article? (By
the way, it was a very interesting article!) Are you anxious to
find things to help someone you love? This may not be the first
and best place to go for that sort of help.

Those headlines are just enough of a taste to want to know more
and that's what the headline is meant to do. Both the author and
the publisher hope to catch your attention. Your response should
be one of interest and then simply file this for future
reference. Let it go. Don't dwell on it. Your original plan was
to get some groceries and go home. Keep your focus and leave the
headline at the checkout stand. Stick to your plan.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------

Having earlier made the decision, Mae and
Susan advised their hosts at the supper table that
they would be leaving tomorrow.

There was much sadness in the house. Mae and
Susan had come to be a part of the family, loved
dearly and deeply. Long Chu and Ming Lu both said
as much. The kids just hung on to the two ladies
hoping they would not leave.

"Fear not, we shall be back. We will come see
you in the summer, after the snow is gone. How's
that?"

"That would be okay but we don't want you to
leave."

"Kids, it is the same with all of life. Things
change and life goes on. You have a great deal to
think on and we will be back once in a while to
see you progress on the path. One day you will do
the things we do and then you can come see us,
wherever we are."

Mae didn't know it then but that statement
would be the motivator needed by these two
children to learn higher law. The idea they could,
at will, go see Mae and Susan was all the pair of
them needed.

Long Chu and Ming Lu would also continue their
work on the path and they would continue to talk
with the kids on all those issues.

The kids slept with Mae and Susan that night.
They couldn't see why the two ladies had to leave.

The following morning the breakfast was a
quiet and sad affair. They were all dreading the
moment when Mae and Susan would say their good
byes.

Yet the time came. Mae and Susan hugged and
kissed all of them, each individually, ensuring
each knew they were loved. Then they were off.

Opening the door the day was again so bright
it was hard to see. The ladies had to squint just
to see, for the first while. They immediately set
up a warm area around them so they were not
affected by the breezes. They did not clear the
snow before them, preferring instead to walk into
the knee deep whiteness as they trudged along.
Once out of sight of the town, they cleared the
snow as they walked and returned it to what it was
after they had passed.

This journey was stark, treeless, mile after
mile windswept nothingness. It was had to believe
there was a place in the world that looked like
this. It was even harder to believe that people
and animals could live in this environment.

The key today was to be able to navigate in a
straight line, not going in a wide arc following
the sun. Every once in a while the ladies stopped
and assessed the time of day and took notice of
the position of the sun. Walking into the sun all
day would have them going in circles. They knew
that by ten in the morning the sun should be
slightly behind their right shoulders if they were
going north. By noon the sun should be directly
behind them and by supper it would appear to be
setting on their left side. They stopped to take
that measure nearly every hour, ensuring they were
still heading in the direction they wanted.
Getting lost in the bush was one thing, but there
at least one had landmarks one could establish and
material with which to start a fire. Getting lost
out here was just plain deadly. It was so easy to
become turned around, lose ones bearings and
clearness of mind that it was scary.

Living by higher law, of course, solved that
issue. Yet it was interesting how the scene, all
white, and the sun, could play tricks on the mind.
Even any hills all looked alike. There was nothing
distinguishable as being different in this land.
Only the trained eye would discern slight
differences in the slope of the land or slight
rise or a barely visible depression. One had to
live in this land for a long time to see such
things. The untrained eye would lead to death,
fast.

The temperature, outside their "bubble" was
very cold. It was made the colder by the winds
that always blew in this land. They were on the
Steppes of China.

Both Mae and Susan loved this kind of thing.
It may have seemed lonely to some but to these two
ladies this land was just another of the beautiful
things about China. It was another of the
geographical elements that created the character
of the people.

To Mae and Sue it was only when you saw and
could understand the underlying cause for customs
and the mannerisms with which a people lived that
you could understand the people. This land was
hard and harsh. The people who lived here had to
be tough minded people, void of self pity. They
were a people who accepted life as it was,
refreshingly missing the subtle nuances those in
warmer climes put into life. Here, life was. There
was no middle ground or confusing issues. You did
things in ways you had learned over the years
would permit you to survive, nothing more, nothing
less.

HA! HA! HA!

With more than twelve billion catalogs being mailed
annually, it's little wonder that marketers are
distributing mailing lists anywhere possible. In one
particularly cruel move, the proprietors of a chocolate
catalog purchased the mailing list of a weight-loss
organization. Chocolate sales rose almost immediately,
but the weight-loss group wised up and now keeps it
clients' names to itself.
