Who was the first woman to fly a jet plane?
Ann Baumgartner, inspired by famous female pilot Amelia Earhart,
joined the Women's Air Force Service Pilots (WASPs) during
World War II. Part of her job was doing major flight tests for the
Air Corp. One day in 1944, her boss suggested she test one of
her projects--a twin-engine P-59, the first US jet. That made her
the first woman to fly a jet!
Who was the first woman to be awarded a Congressional Medal?
Milly Francis, the "Oklahoma Pocahontas," was recognized by
Congress for saving the life of Captain Duncan McKrimmon of
the Georgia militia. Milly, part Creek Indian, was living in Florida
(which was not yet part of the US). She persuaded a group of
Seminole Indians who had captured McKrimmon to release him.
Later, McKrimmon proposed marriage to her, but she turned him
down. Years after that, when she was living in poverty, her story
was reported to Congress, which promised her a medal and a
pension. Alas, the help was too late. By the time her funds were
sent to her, she was dying of tuberculosis.

The Secrets to Success Discovered
Through Self-Promotion
by Debbie Allen
It amazed me to discover that over 87 percent of the
people I surveyed felt extremely uncomfortable with the
concept of self-promotion. Many of these same people
hold themselves back from too many missed opportunities
to become successful because of it.
Where did the fear of self-promotion come from? Many
learned the opposite from their parents as they were
growing up. They where taught to believe that it was
not polite to talk about themselves; if they do, it
will come across as pushy, rude or they will appear
to have a big ego.
Some parents may have taught that, and also said, "Go
out in the world on your own and be successful." This
combo-belief goes against the grain of all sales and
marketing success!
How can you be successful if you don't tell others what
you do and how you can help them? You can't! If you
don't self-promotion, you are holding yourself back
from too many missed opportunities and the success that
you truly deserve!
Undeniably, there is unethical self-promotion. We've
all witnessed it, and maybe even lost business to it.
But unethical or ineffective self-promotion is not what
we're discussing.
You can do successful self - promoting with class,
ethics and service to others. Begin to look at
self-promotion from this day forward as serving others
instead of self-serving.
I'm sure you are passionate about what you do and truly
want to help your customers. If that is the case -
don't you want to help more and more people that could
use your services and/or products? You can't do that if
you don't successfully self-promote and tell more
people about what you do. Tell others why you are the
expert and share success stories from your customers.
Your self-promotion, when done well, helps people to
get what they desire.
The most successful people in the world are all
self-promoters. These are the people that talk in
elevators! In fact, behavioral scientists,
George Dudley and Shannon Goodson, have made a career
out of studying the science of self-promotion to prove
it. Their assessment identifies the ways in which we
unconsciously avoid self-promotion and limit our
success. Their research studies discovered that
"self-promotion is directly related to success."
It you don't toot your own horn, you can't enjoy the
music.

Headlines & Stress - A Simple Filtering System
That Might Help You Deal With Health News Headlines
PART 5 of 5
Don't doubt your own knowledge. If you do need to scan the
headline, ask yourself if this could be an area you are not
confident in. Will it question your own convictions? Does it
jostle your common sense? Nowadays some headlines do start your
heart racing. I have noticed a very interesting change in the
use of health care professionals and resources. People are not
going to their doctor's office for professional advice before
they "search" the Internet. Most of the time, they will already
have done a lot of research and are quite prepared with
knowledgeable, intelligent questions and quite a bit of
understanding. They will probably already have checked out all
signs and symptoms. Clinics are used for emergent situations:
not details of conditions. People find it's much quicker and
easier to go to health food stores, the Internet, or bookstores
than to book a doctor's office appointment. You probably do much
the same. You look up key words or phrases on Google or yahoo
find some information. And then get on with your life. But if
the headline jumps out at you, and you are fearful of maybe not
doing the right thing, you could panic. Don't. Your doctor will
have to make the final diagnosis and they will give you some
helpful and practical choices. But don't allow yourself to be
affected by the headlines. If it's an issue, deal with it, but
you are in a grocery store: not a medical facility.
Know your interests. Know your parameters (what you will allow
and what you will exclude). Stay focussed. It is the purpose of
the publication to entice you with sometimes outrageous
headlines. It is your responsibility to filter out the offer.
And the filtering mechanism can be very helpful because you
already know your interests. You have agreed not to work hard on
your dislikes. Be open-minded, but constantly guard your time
and your energy on dead-end distractions using this filter
system. Stay committed and focussed on your specific area of
interest. Ask yourself it this information "fits" your
lifestyle. If not, ignore it. If it does, read the headline, and
put the idea aside for now. Let this percolate. Opportunities
for more detailed study will definitely arise. But pay
attention to how you feel. Are you anxious? Stressed and
irritated? There is nothing in that information that can harm
you except what you allow it to.
The irony of all these headlines is what you learn today, may be
disputed a while in the near future. If you don't keep up
research findings, you could well be happily going with the
original and maybe outdated information. Has this all raised
your anxiety level just a little? Hopefully not. Make sure your
filters are firmly in place. Commit to using them. De-clutter
your mind of information. We have an immense amount of it coming
at us constantly. You must find a buffer yourself. The peace and
comfort you receive will guide and focus you with confidence and
determination. Stress surrounds us at every turn: at work, at
home, in the community. Having the ability to filter out
unwanted information allows you to be in control of your health:
your life. Guard this jealously.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.

Ng Chiang answered, "We usually spend the
winters in a village where there are many gers
(tents as we might call them but they are widely
known as yurts. The Mongols call them gers.)
and many families. This winter came and caught us
while we were returning to meet up with the
group.( a clan or tribe) When the snow hit we knew
we did not have the time to reach them for they
were many suns away yet. We had no choice
but to stay right here and prepare for winter. It
was good we did. By the time we had the ger up and
properly grounded it was blowing much snow. When
that first storm was over it left a foot of snow.
Had we kept travelling we would have perished. We
were unprepared to stay here too. We had to kill
the two horses we had, for food. Now we have no
transportation in the spring. I will have to walk
to find the tribe and get fresh horses. I am out
of goods to trade. I know not what I shall do. But
that is another day. Today we are safe and warm
and with nice company."
Then and there both Mae and Susan knew they
would cause four horses to be grazing on the
spring grasses when the snow disappeared. All Ng
Chiang would have to do is put harness on them and
he would be set. In fact, four horses would make
him a rich man within his tribe. "I'm sure
something will work out for you Ng Chiang. Come
spring things will change for the better for you."
Susan spoke with a confidence and an authority
that caused Ng Chiang to look at Chi Sang. They
both knew things would be fine, although at this
time they had no idea how it would work out.
"Thank you, fine ladies. Thank you." Ng Chiang
was now bowing in homage and gratitude to the
ladies.
Living in a ger all winter was an experience
in getting along. The quarters were very close and
the family did all things men, women and children
do in life. From the time they rose in the morning
to the time they went to bed at night they had to
get along with one another. There are no windows
in a ger and only the door offers a change in view
and then only to the one who passes through it. No
one went through the door unless they had to for
that would let in the cold.
Each day Ng would go out. He would take three
large containers with him. One was to remove the
family toilet out onto the tundra far and downhill
from the ger. The other two were to gather fresh
snow to melt for water. He would be dressed up in
animal skins against the cold. Upon his return he
would give these containers to Chi Sang. She would
put them all in their proper place and begin
melting the snow over the small fire near the
middle of the ger.
Gers are made of felt, the first known
processed fabric made by man. Felt is heavy and
impenetrable. Winds cannot get through it. It is
spread over the framework of the ger and over that
is spread animal hides or canvas to render the
outer shell one contiguous piece. That way the
inside was both free of draft and was warm. It
became especially so when the snows were
banked up against the outside.
Fires, inside were kept small and were usually
made from animal dung. If a family was fortunate
as Ng Chiang's family was then they had a man made
stove that burned oil. This oil would come from
animal fats or from processed vegetation. IFinding
or processing it was one of the time consuming
tasks for every Mongol woman. Mae and Susan
provided Chi Sang with a never ending supply of
oil.
As a means of making the interior a pretty
place Chi Sang had hung tapestries of brilliant
colors. These were now stained with smoke and
humidity yet they remained brilliant reds, blues,
greens, golds and yellows.
One felt right at home in the Chiang ger. Ng
and Chi Sang were the perfect hosts. They shared
all they had without reservation and always wanted
to talk about all subjects, especially about what
life was like in Mae's and Susan's home. They also
wanted to speak about higher law.
Before they knew it the time had come for
bedding down. The ladies were given a space within
the ger. They would sleep in their clothing as did
the family.
Bathing was not too often done here, maybe
once every two weeks or so. Even then it was not
in a tub, but with a wet rag rubbed all over one's
body. Water was used sparingly here as in many
cultures. One might think there is lots of water
just outside the door. That might be the case, in
winter, but the habits of these people were also
forged in the summer when water was in very short
supply.
So imagine living within a 15 to 20 foot
closed circle that was high enough to just
stand up. Imagine living within that space for six
months without seeing daylight and sharing that
space with three or five other people . Imagine
all the odors caused by men, women and children,
and all those odors mixed with the steam of
cooking, the smoke from the fire and the odors of
the felts and hides of the ger itself. Imagine
that to go out is to go into a land where there
are no trees, only wind swept tundra and that you
must remain where you are for that six month
period.

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!
"Your success... or mediocrity... or failure... is

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HA! HA! HA!
As a young boy, Joe was completely obsessed with
tractors. He had pictures of tractors all over his
bedroom walls; he had tractor toys, tractor T-shirts, a
tractor carpet, and duvet cover, the whole works.
He ate, drank and slept tractors.
On his 17th birthday he was thrilled to get an
invitation to go to a tractor factory nearby and
test-drive a brand new tractor. His excitement was
incredible as he told his family and friends.
The great day came and he went to the factory for the
test-drive. Unfortunately something went terribly wrong
with the tractor when Joe was driving it and it flipped
over, trapping and breaking Joe's leg and fracturing
his skull.
He was very upset and tried to sue the tractor company
for negligence. But the company would have none of it
and told him there was no liability and he could get
lost!
You can imagine he was rather put off with tractors
after this and vowed to shed them from his life
completely and forever. All the posters came
down, the toys were given away - tractors were GONE.
Many years later, Joe went into a bar for a drink.
Inside, the cigarette and cigar smoke was terrible but
through it he saw a beautiful girl seated at the bar on
her own. Tears were streaming down her face.
Joe asked her what was wrong and she said that the
smoke was making her eyes sting and stream with tears.
Joe looked around and then took a huge breath, sucking
in all the smoke. He then walked outside into the
car park and blew all the smoke out again.
He went back into the bar where the air was now clear
and sweet and sits down next to the girl.
"That was amazing!" she said, "How did you do that?"
"No problem", said Joe "I'm an extractor fan"
