ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

When is Grandparent's Day?

It's the first Sunday after Labor Day (in September).
National Grandparent's Day was the brainchild of
Marian McQuade, a West Virginia housewife whose goal
was to champion the cause of lonely elderly in nursing
homes. She also hoped to encourage grandchildren to
tap the wisdom and heritage their grandparents could
provide. President Jimmy Carter, in 1978, made the
holiday official.

Where is the hottest place in the US?

The hottest place in the US is Death Valley, CA. Summer
nighttime temperatures there can reach more than 100 degrees
Fahrenheit. The average night-time low is 89 F. Death Valley
also holds the record for all-time highest daytime temperature.
On July 10, 1913, the temperature hit a broiling 134 F!
Daytime highs average 116 F in July, the hottest month.

Overworked?

Psalm 23 Antithesis

The clock is my dictator, I shall not rest.
It makes me lie down only when exhausted.
It leads me into deep depression.
It hounds my soul.

It leads me in circles of frenzy, for activities sake.
Even though I run frantically from task to task, I will
never get it all done,
For my ideal is with me.
Deadlines and my need for approval, they drive me.

They demand performance from me, beyond the limits of
my schedule. They anoint my head with migraines, My
in-basket overflows.

Surely fatigue and time pressures shall follow me
All the days of my life.
And I will dwell in the bonds of frustration
Forever

There you go folks. Is that a pretty good description
of your life right about now?

It is a sad commentary on life in North America. We are
all so busy we have no time to live. Don't try and tell
me your life is different. I know what goes on out
there. People are too busy even to be polite. Rather
than tell the truth they make up excuses. They are
exhausted most of the time and they have little in the
way of real value in their heart.

Most say they can't slow down, change their lives,
mostly because they can't afford it. Well let me tell
you that is crap. I know. I used to do all the above.
My wife was driven nearly crazy because of it. She
could see right through me but I refused to look at the
truth. I used to think I had neither the time nor money
to slow down and enjoy life. I was wrong, and I have a
secret for you.

A circumstance came up that forced me into taking time
off and doing nothing. Guess what? Both the time and
money were there. I found, in fact, that the money
income increased. I now live in what has to be paradise
in earth and I have all I need in the way of income and
time. Moreover, if a special need comes up and I
require more money it comes.

So don't tell me you can't slow down to smell the
roses, or more importantly spend time with your kids or
your significant other. Tell me instead about how your
ego has you thinking you are an important person the
job can't do without. Tell me about how you fit into a
social strata that needs you. Tell me all the lies your
ego has you believing and I will tell you that I
invented them all.

Spend time with your family. There the rewards are far
superior to anything you are doing now.

Cleaning, Disinfecting, and Sterilizing…
A Few Basic Essentials To Keep In Mind
PART 2 of 12

First of all you need to figure out why you would even
want to do this. Cleaning is something we do to keep
our personal environment comfortable, safe, and
enjoyable. For years we used only soap and water. But
as microorganisms became more resistant, we found that
this combination didn’t always take away all the
harmful things around us. We learned that some “dirt”
might cause us health problems. So we started to use
processes that were stronger and killed what we
perceived to be germs.  There are many products created
to help with this. They are classified into three main
groups, and many have sub-groups.

Let’s work with your home environment, but know that
these categories also exist for health care sector, and
probably in many other fields. That area of expertise
is called infection control. It is a specialty of
itself. The three broad classifications include
cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization practices.
One important fact to remember is that you cannot
disinfect or sterilize anything that has not been
cleaned (properly). The organic matter (protein) will
prevent the disinfectant to work as designed.  Lastly,
whereas disinfectants kill disease causing
microorganisms, sterilization kills all microorganisms:
good and bad.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------

Even visitors like Mae and Susan were
appraised according to the Mongol customs and
found wanting. What caused the two ladies to be
held in high esteem were two things, the natural
hospitality of the Mongol, for once you were a
guest in their home you were to be given whatever
you wanted. You were treated as royalty. The
second thing that brought on high respect was
Mae's and Susan's ability to serve the family with
all their needs. Having done this already these
two ladies were held in very high regard.

Even the children were advised beyond the
normal matter of hospitality, that these two
visitors were "special".

So Mae and Susan were treated well and even
wanted. Their presence was not a hardship in any
way, for the family, but a desired condition. They
not only brought prosperity with them, they were a
very welcome change to the usual daily and winter
routine. That they came out of nowhere in the most
inclement of weather made them special, too.

It was not Mae's and Susan's idea to remain
with the family long. They well recognized their
presence had already served a purpose and that it
would continue to do so even after they were gone,
much that same as a vacation to exotic places is
often appreciated for a long while after the fact.

They announced, after the meal that they would
be leaving today, that they had taken enough of
the family space for a while. "We will look very
much forward to seeing you in the spring up in the
foothills of the mountains. We appreciate you
helping us through the passes."

There was a great clamor. The family did not
want the guests to leave. "Must you leave? We were
enjoying your visit." asked Chi Sang, who likely
enjoyed the ladies more than the rest.

"It is time Chi Sang. Thank you." answered
Susan.

"In the spring I must get my family back to
the tribe. I will have to go there get horses and
then come get the family to take them to be with
the group. Only then can I come to meet with you
and take you into the hills. That might be two
moons. That will, even so, be early. The passes do
not open up until long after we are without snow
here. They are covered by the shade of the high
mountains and the air up here is cold all year
long. We will have only a few short months to get
through. We must begin as early as we can. That
will allow me to get back to my family before the
passes close in again." Ng was clarifying the
circumstances as he knew of them. He had been
through the passes many times when his tribe
wanted to trade with those up in the mountains.

Mae and Susan knew he was right, of course,
yet they also knew that Ng would be perfectly safe
in their hands and at least until he returned to
his family.

"This will be the last we will see of each
other for a long while, Chi Sang. Thank you for
your very kind hospitality. We will both come back
and visit you from time to time if that is all
right with you."

"Oh, Miss Mae! Yes that would be all right
with me. That would be wonderful and I want you to
come, please."

With that the two ladies said their good byes
and walked out the door.

The day was bright. The storm had been a short
lived tempest. It left another six inches of snow
but already there were the tell tale signs of
longer days and warmer temperatures beginning to
creep into the yearly cycle. The temperatures were
never really warm in this part of the world. There
was the never ending wind that blew out of the
mountains so the people that lived in this land
would be able to count on one hand the days that
would be really hot. It just didn't happen here.
Yet the temperatures in summer would not support
snow at this elevation, only in the high
mountains.

These people were nomads, wandering from place
to place. For the winter they would migrate
somewhat south to avoid the deep snows and the
terrible winds that could come down out of the
mountains. In the summer they would migrate north,
west and east to places of water where their
animals could graze and where there was plenty of
water. They did not grow crops. They had to trade
for cloth, vegetables and other needs. This they
did with horses. The Mongols were known all over
the world as being the worlds best horsemen. They
also bred their horses to trade with neighbors for
the things they needed. A horse could bring much
cloth or much in the way of fruits and vegetables.
The ladies immediately went to work to dry the
fruits and vegetables in preparation for the long
winters. They also dried meat and smoked meat for
the same reason, laying up stores against a long
winter.

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!

"The bad news is time flies. The good news is you're

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

HA! HA! HA!

This insurance company's contract with a government
agency has just expired, and a technician fields the
call from an agency bureaucrat reminding him that he
needs to destroy the agency-provided software.

"I agreed that we would delete the software from the
mainframe computer," says the tech.

The reply? "That's not good enough -- the software must
be destroyed."

"How do you destroy software?" tech asks. But the
agency guy can't give specifics. "He just kept
insisting that deleting the software was not
enough -- we must destroy the software!"

The tech finally suggested that we copy the software
onto a tape cartridge, have a steamroller roll over it
and send the flattened tape cartridge to the agency.

The steamroller was on site because a company was
repaving the parking lot. The tech suggested the idea
because of frustration with the construction
in the parking lot -- and frustration with the
government employee who did not seem to have a clue
about the nature of software.

We put the flattened cartridge, at least all the pieces
worth picking up, and the crushed tape into a padded
envelop and mailed it to the government agency, to his
attention.

We received a sincere thank you from the agency.
