How old is the relationship between dogs and humans?
What is the only venomous mammal in North America?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Is it true that some patients remain awake during
brain surgery?
Yes. In some cases, patients remain awake in order
to talk and to provide information to the surgeon about
the areas of the brain being operated on. The patient may
be anesthetized first, as the surgeon cuts open the skull,
then brought to consciousness in order to assist in the
surgery. The goal is to avoid damaging crucial brain
areas.
How long have cats been domesticated?
The recent finding of a 9,500 year old cat skeleton on Cyprus
suggests that the relationship between cats and humans
might have begun much earlier than previously believed.
The cat was buried inches away from a human and evidence
suggested a relationship between the two. Scientists are
now speculating that humans and cats first linked up 10,000
or so years ago with the development of agricultural societies.
Villages with grain stocks would have attracted mice, and
mice, naturally, would attract cats to human settlements.
The ancient Egyptians, of course, are known for their
relationship with cats, but they lived only 4,000 years ago.
Did Egyptians really mummify their cats?
Yes. Ancient Egyptians kept cats as pets, respected them
greatly, and frequently mummified them when they died. But
cats were not the only ones. Animal mummies of a wide
range of species, including crocodiles and birds, have
been found.

Picking the Pope's Domain Name
by Amit Asaravala
If the newly elected pope wants his own website, he'll
have to talk to Rogers Cadenhead first.
The Jacksonville, Florida-based writer purchased the
rights to BenedictXVI.com on April 1 -- more than
two-and-a-half weeks before Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger
announced that he would assume the papacy under the
name of Benedict XVI.
In an interview shortly after Ratzinger's announcement
Tuesday, Cadenhead said the purchase of the domain name
was more of an educated guess than divine guidance.
Newly elected popes often take the names of previous
popes in honor of them. So when media reports last
month revealed that Pope John Paul II was in his final
hours, Cadenhead worked out the possible names that the
new pope might select and set out to buy those domains.
He ended up buying six in all -- including
ClementXV.com, InnocentXIV.com, LeoXIV.com, PaulVII.com
and PiusXIII.com. Some domains, like JohnPaulIII.com
and JohnXXIV.com, already were taken.
Cadenhead, a technical writer who was raised Catholic,
said he bought the domains as a game -- not as a way to
make money by cybersquatting. Besides, he added, "If I
didn't do it, someone less reputable would."
Cybersquatters, or domain speculators, buy domain names
and attempt to sell them to business owners for a
profit. Occasionally, the domains are bought by the
owners of adult websites who want the boost in traffic
-- even if the name is unrelated. (For instance,
whitehouse.com.)
Cadenhead said he hasn't figured out what he's going to
do with the BenedictXVI.com domain yet. "I know for
certainty I won't be doing that," he said, referring to
the adult sites. "The decision would be guided by the
idea not to piss off 1.1 billion (Roman Catholics.)"
BenedictXVI.com, which takes visitors to Cadenhead's
blog, has already begun to receive 100 hits a minute
since the new pope was elected, according to Cadenhead.
The ads that run down the right side of his blog had
brought in $12 by midafternoon Tuesday, he said.
Many visitors to the site have begun to send Cadenhead
e-mails -- some of them accusing him of committing a
sin by squatting on the domain.
"It gives you pause," said Cadenhead about the
messages. "But I guess it depends on what I do with
(the domain.)"
Whatever he decides, he will first seek approval from
his Catholic grandmother.
Said Cadenhead, "I guess you could call her a papal
adviser."

Cleaning, Disinfecting, and Sterilizing
A Few Basic Essentials To Keep In Mind
PART 8 of 12
Here is my most important caution for you. Most
instructions require you to moisten the area (if its a
powder) and apply the powder or liquid, rub well and
RINSE. This last word is so important for your health!
You have cleaned the area. Things look nice. NOW PLEASE
GET RID OF THE RESIDUE! Unless you rinse off the
leftover disinfectant or cleanser, it will remain for
the nextrinse: your shower! And now this chemical is
just waiting for you to stand in the shower: relaxed
and maybe singing or just breathing in all that lovely
steam
and chemical residue. The warm moist air causes
the particles to expand and they find their way very
easily right into your open lungs. If you ever
experience dizziness or lightheadedness or nausea after
a bath, check out the cleaning products. Or if you have
stomach pains a few hours after one, consider the
shower and the cleaning process.
Please dont pour ANY chemicals from one larger
container to a smaller one. This practice is called
decanting. Often smaller container are used because
they are easier to handle. MOST likely it will not be
labeled appropriately. I am sure you have heard horror
stories where people have poured chemical cleaners into
fruit jugs and didnt label them properly. Along came
someone who didnt read the label, didnt know the
product on the label was not the actual product in the
bottle, and proceeded to dispense it. Drinking or
inhaling these chemicals is very dangerous. The label
says so.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------
The morning broke cold. The air felt crisp as
if there were fresh snow coming.
The family was up early and Chi Sang cooked a
good hot meal for the men. She wanted them to have
a good start. This journey was not perilous at the
beginning. It would be just two men on horseback
going across the uninhabited steppes, in the
spring.
However, it would get dangerous in two places.
It would be dangerous for Ng going through the
mountain passes so early in the year and it would
be dangerous for Lang Tsu, a 10 year old, coming
back all alone with the horses. He was quite
capable. That is why he was asked to go along. Yet
a 10 year old having to travel across hundreds of
miles of vast expanse without landmarks would be a
demanding journey. Children grew up fast in this
land. They had to take on responsibilities early.
Ng and Lang Tsu talked about his return
journey almost every evening while on the trail.
Ng showed him how to pick his direction and keep
note of the sun as he was traveling. He had to
make allowance for the sun to be moving even as he
was attempting to keep a straight line. Ng showed
him how doing this was a mathematical thing. That
he had to do this regardless what his senses were
telling him for it was a deadly trap to follow the
senses in this matter.
That is not to say that using the senses was
out of the question, far from it. They were to be
used to sense danger, know what the weather was
going to do and when, know what his animals were
doing. But in the matter of navigation, if he
followed his senses instead of knowing the
position of the sun he would end up going in
circles.
Then, even though the landscape seemed
featureless, there was the occasional outcropping
of significant hill or depression a learned eye
could pick up as a landmark. Only the Mongol would
know these. To most, a landmark was something all
people could see and recognize. In this land of
sameness only the trained eye could pick up the
subtle differences. Lang Tsu was a fast learner.
He would do fine.
As for Ng, he had a number of things going for
him. He was fortunate to have come this way many
times, with his father. His father, when alive,
was a man who traded with the people up in
this high land. Ng did not keep up the tradition
but he did come up here two or three times within
each five year period. So he knew the way, and the
people.
Additionally, he knew that this time he was
going to be with the ladies who helped him and his
family. He knew they had stayed out here for the
balance of the winter, or so he thought, and that
if they could do that then there were many things
they could do. He suspected he would be quite safe
with these two around. Then, on his return journey
it would be near the end of summer in the
mountains and there would be no snow, ice or other
impediment to make his journey difficult.
Therefore safety was not so much of an issue
as in other years, plus, it would be good for Lang
Tsu to develop even more personal
resourcefulness. A man in this country had much
demanded of him and there was no time to learn it
like when you're young. Lang Tsu was already doing
things to survive and to help the family, that
boys in other lands would not be doing until they
were in their twenties.
This trip to meet up with the ladies took
nearly three weeks. Ng was in no hurry, wanting
instead to work with Lang Tsu, pointing out spots
he should look for on his return journey. Ng also
wanted to see how Lang Tsu did with food and with
its preparation and storage. He wanted to watch
what the boy did to protect his food from weather,
especially rain, and from animals. He showed the
boy how to stop every hour, or at least check
every so often as to the position of the sun
relative to his journey.
All these things Ng taught the boy. Ng knew
full well Lang Tsu would be fine on his journey
home. It was not just a wish backed by some
reservations. Ng knew Lang Tsu would be all right.
When that point was achieved Ng decided to
head to the spot he thought the ladies might be.
Sure enough, about noon one day he spotted them.
It took a half hour to reach them even then.
They were "camped" by a fast rushing stream
high in the foothills, close to one of the trails
they would follow. "Camping" was a bit of a
misnomer. Mae and Susan had no tents, not
backpacks, no hiking, climbing equipment. They
were just there.
Long before Ng and Lang Tsu arrived the ladies
were waving. It was a very happy moment when the
reunion happened.

I am one of the lucky ones who really knows that life this

I am into more research for marketing my book. That is
going very well. And tonight I will have a house full of
