TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

What defensive tactic (besides venom) does the
shrew possess?

Is there a shrew that really walks on water?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

How old is the relationship between dogs and humans?

Dogs and humans have been allied for quite a while.
Scientists speculate that the two species have been friends
for more than 14,000 years and possibly much longer - far
longer than mankind has gotten on with kitties.

What is the only venomous mammal in North America?

The short-tailed shrew, which is only 3 to 5 inches in length
and weighs less than half an ounce, is pretty fierce. It will
attack creatures, such as mice, twice its size. The shrew can
do this thanks to its poisonous saliva. One glandful of this
venom can kill hundreds of mice. Generally, the shrew's bite
incapacitates its prey and makes it ready for eating.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
-----------------

Confusion Reigns Supreme

A Florida officer pulls over an eighty-year-old teacher
because her hand signals were confusing.

"First you put your hand up, like you're turning right,
then you waved your hand up and down, then you turned
left," said the officer.

"I decided not to turn right," she explains.

"Then why the up and down?" asks the officer.

"Officer," she sniffs, "I was erasing!"

I can see where that would be confusing all right. It
is even bad enough with signal lights, never mind hand
signals.

The teacher in this little quip reminds me of nearly
everyone I meet. What I mean is she did not have a
clear objective when she even got into her car.

Ever notice that? Ever notice that in most
conversations people appear to ramble on, covering much
unnecessary material before the get to what they want,
if they ever do get to what they want?

That kind of unclear thinking breeds confusion for the
person and everyone around. Consider for a minute that
if you never opened you mouth until you had clearly
decided what point it was you wanted to reach, then
spoke directly to it without any side detours, would
that simplify your life? And for others around you?

You bet it would. And you would get twice as much done
in a day, a week, a month, a year. That sounds fruitful
doesn't it? And it comes simply from making a decision
to do one thing ... clearly understand your objective
for every act you take - EVERY ACT.

It does not matter what that act is. Don't even get
into your car, for example, until you know exactly
where you want to go. Don't open your mouth to speak
until you know what point you want to reach when you do
speak. Here I don't mean that you know what you want to
say. I mean you must know where you want to go with
what you say, you know your objective, the reason you
are speaking in the first place.

Some of you will say "That's no fun." Well, try it. You
will find it is not only fun but you can accomplish
much more than you have been. It really gets to be fun
when you begin to put the money in the bank and the
more money, the "funner" it gets.

And always remember, without knowing your objective ...

Confusion Reigns Supreme

Cleaning, Disinfecting, and Sterilizing…
A Few Basic Essentials To Keep In Mind
PART 9 of 12

In most work places, every chemical including some
office supplies have what are called Material Safety
Data SheetMSDS sheets. The western world acknowledges
that chemicals are harmful and has forced manufacturers
to write specific details about every product they
make. These instructions outline possible harmful
effects or ingredients. They also note how to get
immediate help. In hospitals, every cleaning product,
disinfectant, and sterilant has to have one of these
sheets. It’s a pity that the law doesn’t extend to
these kind of products people’s homes! Get rid of the
practice of putting linseed oil into a pop bottle, and
storing it in your workshop or garage. Stop borrowing
cleaners from your neighbour in coffee cans. It’s
foolish and dangerous! Your children watch you doing
this and copy your example. Get rid of all empty
containers. Recycle them, but get them out of your
home.

And don’t mix any chemicals. The company would have
done it for you if they felt it was helpful. Two people
in my community died within days of each other by doing
this. What if you do run into a problem and you suspect
it’s the cleaner? Open a window. This helps you to
breathe fresh air. That will also “dilute” the amount
of chemicals you are inhaling.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------

The two ladies knew they would meet Ng in the
spring. He had said he would guide them through
the Himalayas up to Lhasa, the Forbidden City.
From there the ladies planned on heading south all
the way to New Delhi to complete their trip.

Ng had been to Lhasa many times. It is in the
Chinese province of Xizang, known mostly to the
world as Tibet.

The people of the region were hard to get to
know. Few people in the world understood these in
Tibet. The geography created the need for them to
be tough in their personalities. That was often
misconstrued as "standoffish" or "cold" by
outsiders who do not know what it takes to live
and survive in that land.

They were much more hospitable to the Mongol,
who, living in similar conditions had a similar
view of life.

Ng was actually looking forward to the trip as
he had not been up here in three years.

As the riders came into camp they were
astonished. The first thing that hit them was they
seemed to come into a very warm area, free from
wind. Even the animals noticed it.

Mae and Susan, of course were dressed not
nearly so warmly as the two men just arrived. They
did not have to dress warmly. They could control
their environment.

There was much ado at the meeting once more of
old friends. Ng and Lang Tsu were both happy to be
there. The ladies bid they sit and have lunch.

As the men sat there was their favorite food,
hot, in front of them in that instant. Knowing
these two ladies, the men did not question where
the food came from.

Mae and Susan wanted to know all the
happenings and events the family went through from
the time they last saw one another. Ng and Lang
Tsu told them of the long winter and how important
the food was the ladies arranged, and the oil.
They told of finding the four horses just outside
the ger in the early spring, of the family journey
to the main group, setting up the ger again, and
finally of their journey here.

Ng told the ladies of the plan for Lang Tsu to
take the horses back with him while he, Ng, would
take the ladies to Lhasa. He again emphasized the
fact that this was still early for traveling the
high country.

"We know, Ng, yet we think we can arrange for
the passes to be pretty clear for our travel and
for your return. We will go according to your
schedule. We appreciate, very much, your guiding
us to the Forbidden City." Mae was letting Ng know
what their attitude was.

Little did Ng know that the ladies would have
the route well cleared of snow and cold
temperatures and that Ng would likely take only
two thirds as long as he thought.

The small group spent the rest of the day
bringing each other up to date with each their
stories. They had an early supper and then the
ladies caused a camp fire to come into being. They
all sat around discussing the trip, the timing and
the anticipated trials. It was arranged for Lang
Tsu to meet his father on this trail two months,
(two moons) from now. If Ng was early he would be
walking on the same trail he and Lang Tsu had
taken to get here. If Ng was late, Lang Tsu was to
camp out right here awaiting his father's return.

The two knew all would be well. Lang Tsu was
pleased to be given this responsibility, and that
his father trusted him with it. His father knew
the boy would do anything in his power to fulfill
his task.

And the ladies both knew that all would be
well for they placed an invisible shield of safety
around Lang Tsu and his horses.

They turned in and slept the sleep of angels.
What with it being warm and comfortable sleep came
early.

Before first light Ng was up and tending to
the horses. He made little noise but the pattern
of people in this land was to awaken early. Men
were well into the rhythm of the land.

The camp wakened and immediately preparations
were underway. They had a quick bite to eat, then
cleaned up the area as best they could. When Susan
was done there was no evidence of fire or anything
else that would tell anyone there had once been a
camp here.

Ng took Lang Tsu aside and had a short father
son talk. The boy was ready and anxious to be on
his way. Ng hugged him, a quick hug, the manly
sort, and the boy mounted his horse. He took the
reins of the other horse in his hand, said good
bye to the ladies and slapped his mount. With a
start, the horses were off. In this light it took
mere minutes before Lang Tsu disappeared.

Ng turned to the ladies and looked at them.
Without a word he picked up his pack and began to
walk. Mae and Sue were right behind him.

TODAY'S REPORT:

Another weekend folks. Gosh time is going by so fast I
can hardly separate one day from the next. I love being
busy, but this is ridiculous. I think I'm going to begin
putting on the brakes for a while. It helps getting centered.

Have a great weekend folks. Remember, every day this
side of the grass is a good one.

Some Random Thoughts ...

COWS
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that
our government can track a cow born in Canada almost
three years ago, right to the stall where she sleeps in
the state of Washington. And they tracked her calves to
their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million
illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we
should give them all a cow.

CONSTITUTION
They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for
Iraq. Why don't we just give them ours? It was written
by a lot of really smart guys, it's worked for over 200
years and we're not using it anymore.

TEN COMMANDMENTS
The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments
in a Courthouse: You cannot post "Thou Shall Not
Steal", "Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery" and "Thou
Shall Not Lie" in a building full of lawyers, judges
and politicians! It creates a hostile work environment.
