TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------
How do people leave fingerprints behind at a crime scene?
Can fingerprints be obtained off a human body?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
How long did the Spanish Inquisition last?
A good, long time. It was started in 1478 by Queen Isabella
of Castile, who wanted to root out converted Jews secretly
practicing Judaism. By 1483, the inquisitors were looking
for any and all heretics and torturing and killing people
left and right. The Spanish Inquisition was not abolished
until 1834.
Do animals other than humans have fingerprints?
Other primates, such as chimps, apes, and monkeys, do. As in
humans, the fingerprints are unique to each individual
primate. Surprisingly, some primates have "fingerprints" on
their tails, as well as on their hands and feet. No other
mammal has fingerprints. Just us and the monkeys!

Here's To Think On . . . with Ken Darby
-----------------
Why Try To Be Someone You're Not?
People are illogical, unreasonable and self-centered.
- - - Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish motives.
- - - Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you win false friends and true
enemies.
- - - Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
- - - Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
- - - Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
- - - Build anyway.
Folks favor underdogs but follow top dogs.
- - - Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
Some need help but may attack you if you help them.
- - - Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you will get kicked
in the teeth.
- - - Give the world the best you have anyway.
In other words, folks, be yourself. The world is full of people
trying to be someone different than they are. They try their
hardest but ultimately find they cannot support it and that
lets them down and lets down those who depend upon
them.
Learn the lesson that you are no hero. You are just you,
and that is plenty good enough. Anything else is a sham,
a delusion, a fraud.
Some say, "Well what is this business of living your goal,
of living the dream?" The answer is that does not mean
you should not be the same old acceptable you. It only
means you are living as you want to live, within your means
and as your dream grows into reality.
Trying to be someone whom you are not is not only futile,
it leads one off the path or standard they set for themselves
and causes their judgment and morality to be based on
circumstance, not a standard they previously set for
themselves. It usually means one ends up chasing any
dollar they can see and renders one higher vulnerable to
those who would con him.
Being yourself and going according to your plan is the
safest, most practical and most successful way ...

Blood, Its Circulation And Its Pressure
PART 1 of 10
Did you know you can stop and check your blood pressure when you
shop for groceries? You may not want to, but the opportunity is
available in stores that provide pharmacies. And why would you
want to do that? Why should you be interested in something
called " blood pressure"? Or "the pressure of blood"??? I
receive emails from many people for a variety of reasons. In the
course of a conversation, I may ask what their blood pressure
is. I will get answers like "it's fine", or "it's perfect" or
"the doctor says it's excellent". Few people can give me actual
numbers. Later when you might suspect something is not quite
right, you have nothing to compare it to. You need to know and
understand the actual readings: the upper (systolic) reading and
the lower (diastolic) one.
As always, with these articles, please don't use them to
diagnose or treat yourself. Use the information to educate
yourself. If you recognize something familiar, please have it
checked out by a qualified health care provider. More knowledge
will help you ask better questions.
So let's explore what blood is, how it gets moved around your
body, and how blood pressure relates to it. I'll share the
importance of your blood's "mission" and "function" in your
body.
But before we get too far, we need to understand some medical
terms. It will help you see why you need to know something more
than just being told "it's perfect". (I'll also tell you why
your blood doesn't stay in your legs forever if you stand a
lot.) We'll explore the blood's different ingredients and why
they are needed...and how to have them ready in your body. You
may have decided it's time to take control of your health. Blood
is the major body "ingredient" that keeps you alive.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.
The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.
It will change your life. Go to

4Now for the story
Sam and Alewka were chatting with Riata. At the evening
fire they had torn themselves away from their village hosts
and were talking quietly. It was almost as if they were
scheming something.
Billy and Sonora had been given a special place and were
served food and drink all evening. It was their time to be
looked after. They wouldn't be around tomorrow to take part
in the festivities.
The Old One stood. "May I suggest we have two other
couples here who, likewise, are in love. They are good
friends with Mr. Billy and Miss Sonora. Would it be okay
that we treated them like newlyweds to be?"
The villagers looked around and soon found Amenti and
Reno, and Tom and Tlang.
"Yay!" The approval went up in unison. The two couples
hadn't even thought of it and were surprised. The Old One
had given them special status. A place was cleared beside
Billy and Sonora and the other two couples joined them.
"I sure didn't expect this. It's nice to share your
'special' evening with you."
The villagers would make this evening memorable for all
of them.
Sam looked at the Old One and winked. In that instant
they both knew what was up. Yet they were all able to keep
it from the three couples.
Sam and Ben disappeared for a short while. They had some
chores to perform. Within a half hour they were each back,
acting as if all was well and their absence was perfectly
normal. They spoke to no one of where they were or what they
had done.
The evening wore on with continual talking amongst
everyone. Then the drums began and the cadence almost pulled
people from their sitting position into a dance.
Many ended up dancing and, as occasionally happens when
the dance becomes rhythmical, it almost induced trances.
Even the kids got involved. This night there was no strata
of adults and kids. All were one.
The Old One rose and raised his hands in the air. The
drums stopped. The dancers returned to their sitting
positions.
"This night we celebrate many things. This night we have
before us three sets of lovers, each set committed to each
other and they all want to marry. Young love does that. It
wants you to spend the rest of your life one with the other.
We celebrate something else, too. My time has come when I
shall no longer be with you. I will be leaving shortly."
There was wide spread murmurs among the villagers.
"Take not this news badly. It is my time and I am happy
to go. That is one of the reasons Mr. Billy appeared among
us several months ago. He came to teach so you could well
practice higher law as he and Miss Sonora do. Once you live
by higher law you will need me no more. Mr. Billy will be
your council until then. He and I have spoken. We each
believe this is best for the village. He will guide you but
it is you who must govern yourselves. My time was coming and
I sent out a call for someone to come to help. Mr. Billy was
the answer. I ask that you trust him. Listen to him, yet
always do your own thinking and make your own decisions. He
will insist you do that and it is wise for you to have a
deep understanding of your need to live that way. Tomorrow I
will conduct the wedding ceremony. Thereafter I know not
when, but I shall leave you. You have all been good to me
and I love this village. Life has been good to me and I know
your future will be very good for you. I go now to get my
rest for tomorrow is a big day for me. Enjoy the wonderful
guests that have come for the wedding. I will see each of
you in the morning."
When it was obvious the Old One had finished everybody
rose. It was a sign of respect. Many wore sad faces. This
was a turn of events none had expected, and one that caused
a major change in the way the village operated. The mood
became somber.
After the Old One left the drums did not start up again.
Instead there was much talk around the fire about what the
Old One had said. Each of the villagers knew this meant a
change in the village. It was a sobering moment. They knew
not how to proceed. Many of the guests had to soothe the
villagers concerns, instilling confidence about their
futures.
Maybe that is why the Old One delivered his message this
night. He wanted the villagers to have two things happening.
First he knew they were busy with the wedding and the
guests. They had to continue with that. Next he knew all the
guests were of sound knowledge and would speak truth unto
the villagers. They would offer information that would still
the concerns of the villagers and offer them hope. This Old
One was also a wise one. He thought things through.
The evening went late into the early morning. In spite
of the nature of the communication and the seriousness of it
the villagers still kept a steady flow of food and beverage
going to the young lovers. They did not stop the plans put
in place for the wedding.
The fire broke up around two in the morning. Billy
turned in shortly after, full and happy.
The next morning Sam and Ben were up early. They
immediately went over to meet with the Old One.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Kangaroo: how did the "kangaroo" get its name?
Captain James Cook, who discovered Australia, asked the
tribesmen of the Endeavor River region the name of the
animal. They answered "Kangaroo." Whether that was the name
of the animal itself or just an answere signifying "I don't
know" is something that we don't know.

HA! HA! HA!
The day after his wife disappeared in a kayaking accident,
an Anchorage man answered the door to find two grim-faced
Alaska State Troopers.
"We're sorry Mr. Wilkens, but we have some information about
your wife," said one trooper.
"Tell me! Did you find her?" Wilkens shouted. The troopers
looked at each other.
One said, "We have some bad news, some good news, and some
really great news. Which do you want to hear first?"
Fearing the worst, an ashen Mr. Wilkens said, "Give me the
bad news first."
The trooper said, "I'm sorry to tell you, sir, but this
morning we found your wife's body in Kachemak Bay."
"Oh my God!" exclaimed Wilkens. Swallowing hard, he asked,
"What's the good news?"
The trooper continued. "When we pulled her up she had two 25
pound king crabs and six good-size Dungeness crabs on her."
Stunned, Mr. Wilkens demanded, "If that's the good news,
what's the great news?"
The trooper said, "We're going to pull her up again
tomorrow."
