Is there any truth to the legend of Lady Godiva at all?
Well, Lady Godiva did exist. She was the wife of Leofric,
Earl of Mercia and Lord of Conventry. And he was, indeed, a
very powerful man in the eleventh century. But that's all we
know. The couple were known as philanthropists (they even
founded an Abbey at Conventry). The story didn't really get
started until the 13th century (two centuries after the
"fact"), so it's most likely pure legend. The "peeping Tom"
part of the legend appears to have been added in the
seventeenth century.
Are Godiva chocolates associated with the story of Lady
Godiva?
Yep, Lady Godiva is depicted on the famous (and expensive!)
Godiva chocolates. The company, founded by Joseph Draps more
than seventy-five years ago in Belgium, was named in honor
of the legend of Lady Godiva.

Vietnam gives Gates star welcome
Gates has been greeted like a pop star by thousands of
university students during a visit to Vietnam.
About 7,000 students waited for hours, some clinging to
trees and balconies, to get a glimpse of Mr Gates during his
visit to the Hanoi university.
"You represent the future," the world's richest man said
during a speech, "the future of invention and technology,
the future of this country."
He had earlier met Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and
President Tran Duc Luong.
The audience at the Hanoi University of Technology cheered
and gave Mr Gates, 50, a standing ovation after hearing him
talk about future hi-tech projects such as tablet computers
and mobile phones more powerful than today's desktop
computers.
"He is excellent and successful," 21-year-old student Do Yen
told AFP.
"He is my idol. I hope that our country will have someone
like him in the future."
Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and President Tran Duc Luong
had earlier taken time away from the ruling Communist Party
National Congress, the most important event on the political
calendar, to meet Mr Gates.
Under an agreement signed Saturday, Vietnam's Finance
Ministry became the country's first government office to use
completely licensed Microsoft software.
A statement said the agreement "reaffirms the government's
commitment in copyright protection as the country integrates
into the international community", Reuters reports.

Blood, Its Circulation And Its Pressure
PART 10 of 10
I'd like to end with a word about donating blood. The mission of
blood is to keep you alive and well. Its purpose is to take
oxygen, nutrients, and chemicals to your cells in all parts of
your body. You realise by now that you can't live without it. So
what happens when you find yourself without enough of your own
through illness or trauma? The obvious thing is to "borrow" it
from someone else. In hospitals, we used to give a lot of blood
transfusions. We don't do that any longer. There have been too
many problems with passing along unhealthy conditions. The gift
is still as incredibly helpful and necessary as always, but now
it's become very scarce. I have been donating blood for years.
It's part of my routine as I know how valuable it will be to
several people and to scientific research. But the rooms are
generally pretty sparse. Not so after 911! I was thrilled to see
the four hour waits! We snaked through rooms of chairs, were
given drinks at intervals, chatted with new friends or read our
books. And finally donated that precious gift of love. All of us
knew it was the only thing we could do personally to help ease
our pain. And we proudly sported our little teardrop-shaped
stickers on our chests. They read "Be kind to me: I gave blood
today"! The donation process itself may be a bit tedious but
blood is so valuable that, as with any gift you give, a little
inconvenience shouldn't stop you. Please consider becoming a
blood donor if you are healthy. And helping others is a purpose
for your own life. And keep in mind, all blood donation centers
now accept your blood for either yourself or someone in your
family in anticipation of a planned procedure. This is truly the
gift of life. Medical science has been developing all kinds of
practical substitutes, but nature still holds the secret to
keeping you alive long after the donated blood has outdated!
This information was intended to help you understand your body
and its functions. If you have a medical problem, please seek
appropriate advice.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

4Now for the story
Billy was after her immediately. He like this teasing
she did, and he teased her back incessantly. It was a good
thing she could take it. In fact she was much like Alewka
Henry in that regard. Sonora had a deep understanding of her
chosen man and could not only take the teasing but, when
appropriate, could dish it out too.
About 3500 miles away in the little finger of the Grand
Canyon the more reserved Reno and Amenti were enjoying each
other. Here, for the first time in their lives they were
alone, together. They liked that but everyday they woke up
looking for the kids at the orphanage. It was a hard habit
to break when you knew nothing else. Here, it was just the
pair of them.
They enjoyed each other sexually. They, too, had
abstained before marriage. Then this marriage had come upon
them so fast and now they were here. Much had happened in a
short while. The pair of them were still reeling from the
speed with which it all happened.
Amenti wasn't a teaser. He was always the sober one. It
wasn't that he didn't enjoy life or those around him. It was
only that he enjoyed it so much he didn't want any frivolity
to spoil it. Only once in a while Reno could get away with
it.
For Reno's part, she, too, was serious. She remembered
well where she came from. She was maybe an eight year old
waif when she wandered in to Riata's orphanage in downtown
Matto Grosso. Life had been hard for Reno up to then. She
was always hungry, much of the time cold and wet and she had
little in the way of clothing. When she walked into the
orphanage Riata has her cleaned and into new clothes almost
immediately. Reno knew instantly she was going to stay.
As the years went by Reno learned about higher law from
Riata. She learned about giving rather than taking. She
learned about the rules and the laws. She was given an
opportunity to serve her fellow kids. She was then given the
opportunity to cross over the veil of simplicity, at
Romano's and Oomano's wedding.
Reno was quite familiar with the Henry family. Eloise
visited often and Mr. Sam, too. Riata told Reno who they
were and why they were so important. In her early years Reno
almost worshipped Miss Eloise and Mr. Sam. However, when she
committed to living by higher law she suddenly knew she was
on an equal plain with them. That felt good. She then really
wanted to do the work, for now she could see why everything
worked.
Amenti, too, had a very hard life in his childhood
years. He was older and possibly more street wise when he
finally wandered into Riata's orphanage. He actually didn't
wander in, he ran. He had stolen something from one of the
neighboring merchants and was being chased. He ran into the
orphanage thinking he could hide in there.
Little did Amenti know that Riata would change his life.
She looked him straight in the eye for a very long time.
Amenti could hardly hold her gaze. He had a guilty
conscience and it was hard to keep looking at this woman.
The merchant was just outside. Amenti could see him and he
could see Amenti.
Amenti held the bobble in his hand. He was attempting to
hide it. Finally, without words, Riata pointed to the
merchant. Amenti knew exactly what she meant. All the while
she never let go of her gaze into his eyes. In his head
Amenti knew he had to give the trinket back to the merchant.
Slowly Amenti moved toward the merchant. As he was
moving in that direction he was being told, inside his head,
"Give it back to him and apologize. Tell him you will never
do that again and tell him you will be living right here,
next door to him, if he ever wants to find you. Be polite
and genuinely serious about your apology."
Amenti did as he was told. The merchant accepted his
apology and actually invited him back to the store. Amenti
declined, saying he had some things to attend to but could
he come later in the week? The merchant accepted.
When the merchant left, Amenti seemed still under the
control of Riata. He returned to her.
Riata took him aside and talked with him. She talked
long and Amenti knew she was not after anything from him but
made him welcome to stay in the orphanage with the kids.
However, he could not steal from any of the merchants
around. He could not steal anything from anybody. If he did
not he was welcome to stay here for food, clothing and
shelter. He would have to share the work load with all the
rest of the kids. Amenti accepted.
As Amenti and Riata were talking he was looking around.
Sure enough there was a girl he thought was the most
beautiful girl he had ever seen. It was Reno. From that
moment both Amenti and Reno worked together in the
orphanage.
Riata had changed the kids in the orphanage. They no
longer stole from the merchants and it soon came to be known
the kids from the orphanage could be counted on. Many did
odd chores for the merchants. Soon the area cleaned up and
the merchants would even stand up for the kids, in the face
of officials like police, who figured the kids for street
urchins and used them as such. The merchants no longer
allowed the police to do that. Any kid who came from the
orphanage was okay with the merchants. The police soon
learned that and left the kids alone.
Before you knew it there was a happy relationship
between the kids in the orphanage and all the merchants
around. Life for everyone improved.
For Amenti, he lost interest in stealing. He was in love
and he would follow Reno like a puppy. Reno, for her part
was similar. They seemed joined at the hip for most of the
time, yet Amenti didn't kiss her until long after they were
over in China.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Table d'Hote: Why do we call a fixed price meal a "table
d'hote"?
The term is French and literally means a "table of the
host." during the Middle Ages almost all public eating
places were operated on what is now called the American
plan. guests sat at the "table of the host", took whatever
was offered and had to pay for the entire meal no matter
what they ate. And so, "table d;hote" came to signigy "a
complete meal at a fixed price."

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!
You must have a room, or a certain hour or so a day,
where you don't know what was in the newspapers that
morning, you don't know who your friends are, you don't
know what you owe anybody, you don't know what anybody
owes to you. This is a place where you can simply
experience and bring forth what you are and what you
might be.

HA! HA! HA!
A young woman, pursuing a graduate degree in art history,
was going to Italy to study the country's greatest works of
art. Since there was no one to look after her grandmother
while she was away, she took the old lady with her. At the
Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, she pointed to the painting
on the ceiling.
"Grandma, it took Michelangelo a full four years to get that
ceiling painted."
"Oh my, "the grandmother says. "He and I must have the same
landlord."
