Can rainbows happen at night?

Does the intensity of the rain falling affect the colors of
the rainbow?

Is left-handedness passed down through families?

Handedness does run in families, but scientists are unsure
how much to attribute to genetics and how much to attribute
to environmental pressure, such as parents purposefully or
accidentally teaching their kids to use a certain hand.
There does appear to be SOME genetic component, as adoption
studies suggest that adopted kids tend to follow the
handedness of their birth parents. People who believe
left-handedness is genetic also point to the famous Kerr
clan of Scotland, whose members were mostly left-handed. The
Kerrs even built staircases in their castles that spiraled
counter-clockwise, so they'd be easier to defend by lefty
swordsmen. Studies assessing the handedness of Kerrs and
Carrs (their relatives) currently living have been
inconclusive.

Where is the sun when you see a rainbow?

You might not have noticed it before, but the sun is always
behind you when you see a rainbow and the center of the
circular arc of the bow is in the direction opposite to that
of the sun. Rainbows, after all, are seen when sunlight
falls upon a collection of water drops (rain, mist, fog).
The colors of the rainbow are caused by the refraction and
internal reflection of light rays that enter the raindrop,
each color being bent through a slightly different angle.
Rainbows are generally made up of seven colors - red,
orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. The easy
way to remember the order of the colors is to remember the
mnemonic "Roy G. Biv."

STRANGE BITS AND PIECES!

Studies indicate that listening to music is good for

The Road To Inner Peace Is Not Through The Stomach!

I am passing this on - - - It is definitely working for me.
I think I have found inner peace.

I read an article that said the way to achieve inner peace
is to finish things you had started.

Today so far, I finished two bags of potato chips, a cherry
pie, a bottle of wine and a box of chocolate.

I feel better already!

Pass this along to those who need Inner Peace.

I will not, here, go into any long dissertation on how to
find inner peace. What strikes me most about this joke
is it comes tooooooo close to the truth.

I find myself, almost daily, amazed at the number of folk
who think inner peace comes from some material object
or food. It seems they "feel" better when they have eaten,
or bought a new car, a new dress, a new suit, or painted
a room, or got new closet doors.

I wonder why they don't think about being thankful for
what they have? Or about forgiving those whom they feel
wronged them? Or forgiving themselves for the mistakes
they have made.

I wonder why they don't just sit down, have a look around
and "accept" who and what they are? I wonder why they
don't become calm of body and mind and go inside to
find the real peace and strength that can come from within?

I wonder why and how such a joke can even exist. It
reveals a condition of man for which man should take
no pride. But, then, all jokes come from the truth of the
human condition. That being said it is still wise
to consider...

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - by Karin Henderson

The Ins And Outs of Breathing
Every breath you take is vital to your survival
(This is not just discussion of the obvious - look!)
PART 4 of 10

There is a protective, filtering lining that is made up of all
sorts of devices to clear out unwanted irritants or intruders.
The top layer has tiny hairs called cilia that sweep off any
loose debris. The next layer has a soft, mucous lining that
swells up to wash out more persistent intruders. This lining
continues all the way to the very end of the lungs, where the
tiny "exchange" sacs (alveoli) are located. These tiny hairs all
along the walls of each nostril help "push" or propel the breath
along. Anything that is caught such as bacteria, foreign
particles, viruses, etc. is directly eliminated back out of the
body.

This thick mucous lining contains many antioxidants, which in
turn neutralize the inhaled pollutants (free radical intruders).
(Ozone, nitrogen dioxide, and fuel emissions, etc.) It provides
a layer of protection that is so effective that most of the time
these pollutants don't even come in contact with the lining
under the hairs (cilia). This "cleaning" or "sweeping" works
constantly to prevent anything from "setting up house" in your
respiratory system. Coughing is one way to get rid of these
unwanted visitors.

This breath of air then moves into the sinus areas. You have
three sets of these. Their purpose is to filter for unwanted
matter, and warm and moisten the air. I once read somewhere that
the "blood vessels in the nasal mucosa (lining) act as
radiators: they cool the hot air and warm the cool air". Next
this air flows through the larynx (voice box) to trachea
(windpipe) into the bronchus and then it branches off to the
smaller passages. Here you come to a HUGE network of tubes.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby

-----------------------DISCLAIMER

Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

-----------------------END DISCLAIMER

Your World Is Perfect And Prosperous

Of late I have been revealing to you, bit by bit, the
problems and difficulties that exist in the world today.
These problems are a result of man’s thinking. All the
thinking man has done up to this point has resulted in
what the world is now.

Today I want to bring you sincere and real cause to hope. I
have written a book entitled “And Billions May Die”. It
outlines succinctly all the areas that are problems to man
and how they are preparing to be more of a problem than man
wants. When I am ready to show you I will let you know in
this newsletter. I will make it available in pdf format.

What is good about that is that it will show each how
terrible these problems can be BUT it will also show you a
way where you can survive them and thrive
.

That’s what I want to talk about today. It is clear we have
arrived at this place in time because of our thinking, both
individually and globally. If you don’t like what you have,
are or are going through it is because of all your thinking
in the past. In truth you are living the way you conceived
you would be, in your head years ago, and what you have
today is the fruit of those thoughts. So too with mankind.
The collective thinking is what has brought the world to be
what it is.

You can change your world by the simple task of “seeing
yourself as you WANT TO BE”.
Consider that for a moment. If
you are today what you “saw” yourself as being, then you can
be tomorrow as you “see yourself as being.”
That is the
secret to your happy, healthy and prosperous future. That
does not depend on your present circumstances, neither on
your present surroundings or environment or on the attitude
of the world. The only thing it depends on is “how you see
yourself”

The same is true for mankind.

So, today, I offer you hope that your world will be what you
see yourself doing, being, having. GO FOR IT!!

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Halloween: How did "Halloween" come to be so called?

The old Celtic calendar began on November 1st and therefore,
October 31st was New Year's Eve - the night on which witches
and hobgoblins rode about for one last fling. With the
introduction of Christianity the old New Year's Day became
"All Saints' Day"; and the evening before became "All
Saints' Eve" or "all Hallows' E'en." Though the name was
changed, the customs and the belief that witches rode on
this night - persisted and have come down to this day.

HA! HA! HA!

A blonde walks into the library. She walks up to the
counter, SLAMS a book down and screams at the librarian, -
"This is the WORST book I've ever read!" "It has NO plot and
far too many characters!"

The librarian looks up and calmly remarks - "So, you're the
one who took our phone book..."
