TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

What makes a double rainbow?
Is Niagara Falls the biggest waterfall in the world?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Can rainbows happen at night?
Well, they're harder to see, of course, but lunar rainbows
(also called "moonbows") do indeed occur. A full moon is
bright enough to have its light refracted by raindrops just
as the sun is. The colors of a lunar rainbow are much
fainter than a rainbow produced by sunlight - usually
described as soft and pale or more white than regular
rainbows. Those who have seen these much rarer rainbows
generally describe the site as incredibly beautiful. For one
ensign's personal account of a lunar rainbow sighting, go
here.
Does the intensity of the rain falling affect the colors of
the rainbow?
Yes. You see the most vivid rainbows with the most defined
colors when large raindrops (1-2 mm in diameter) are
falling. Rainbows arising from drizzle (drop size about 0.15
mm) lack red, and the rest of the colors (except for violet)
are more faint. Mist droplets (about 0.04 mm) or cloud
droplets (about 0.02 mm) produce nearly white bows.

OPTIMIZE LIFE NOW™ ... with Dr. Rhoberta Shaler
------------------------------------
Measuring Your Worth
It has been said that your worth can best be measured by the
benefits others have gained from your success. How do others
benefit from your gains?
An interesting exercise in self-awareness and self-esteem is
to list all the ways that you think others might benefit
from your existence. Be specific. The list will do two
things: it will help you realize the contribution you make
to the lives of others, whether you know the people or not;
and, it will help you to identify ways that you might like
to offer more.
Often we hear about the importance of making a contribution
in this world. Just as with communication, so it is with
contribution: You cannot not contribute. The question is
"What are you contributing?" Do you make someone's day
brighter with a smile or a card? Do you remember a birthday?
Acknowledge an accomplishment? Remember to ask about
someone's concerns? In this fast-paced, I-want-it-yesterday
world, it seems even more important to remember each other,
think about each other, care for each other.
Sometimes I think we are endangered by our technology. When
I am on Seattle streets, walking at a Vancouver Island pace,
I am sometimes chilled by the breeze of folks running by,
looking at their watches. The other day I was going to a
meeting in a large office building that houses many
telecommunications firms. I approached the information desk
in the lobby to inquire about the room for my meeting. The
security guard, a man who himself looked endangered, met my
request with an abrupt, "We do not have conference rooms.
Who are you, anyway?" I explained who I was and what the
meeting was and he told me it would not be in his building.
I persisted, he made some calls and discovered that there
was a conference room but that the meeting I wanted was not
listed for that room. I said I would go up and look for my
colleagues. He panicked...told me I could not do that. I
said that I wanted to attend my meeting...he, very angrily,
said he would take me there because he did not know who I
was or what I wanted.
On the way up in the elevator--a very long way up, as you
can imagine--I asked him if the building had a security
problem. Was this why I was being treated this way? He said
it was none of my business. We reached the room filled with
my colleagues and they explained to him how the room was
booked. That, too, angered him. As he left me, I wished him
a better day.
What an incredible level of stress for him to live with each
day. What an incredible degree of suspicion his job brought
forth in him! You know the old adage, "When all you have is
a hammer, everything looks like a nail." Well, he
personified it! For folks living with this degree of fear,
we can offer them understanding without letting them run us
over, can't we?
We have the opportunity of being the light in someone's day,
of adding to someone's pleasure or adding to his or her
pain. We can make things easy or difficult. We can
collaborate or compete. We can put our own needs above those
of other or we can help others get what they want first.
There are no rules, of course. It is important, however, to
be conscious of how our choices affect others, and, of how
others benefit from our existence. Even in tiny ways, we
make a difference.
Today, before you say or do anything, take a breath and ask
yourself, "Will this make the contribution I want to make to
this conversation, relationship, business deal, etc.?" If
the answer is yes, proceed with assurance. If the answer is
no, you'll have consciously given yourself the opportunity
to do it differently. Choose well.

The Ins And Outs of Breathing
Every breath you take is vital to your survival
(This is not just discussion of the obvious - look!)
PART 5 of 10
Just remember that this protection of moistening and filtering
is throughout the entire respiratory system. Certain areas are
more responsible for the cleaning and moistening than others.
Eventually this breath arrives at "the exchange area". Along the
way, it has been cleaned, warmed, and moistened. Anything
unwanted has been removed and the oxygen is now ready to be
transferred to the blood stream. This happens through a
mesh-like membrane or skin. Your breath is now in your blood
stream. And it's now on the way to many cells. In return, the
carbon dioxide that was in your bloodstream now moves through
the same mesh-like skin and finds itself in the lungs. It is
propelled through essentially the same path as the breath took,
but in reverse order. Eventually it finds itself leaving your
body.
Inspiration is inviting oxygen-laden air in. Expiration is
sending waste products containing carbon dioxide out. So you can
see the very close connection between circulation and
respiration/breathing.
I have already mentioned the filtering and cleaning properties
of the mucous membranes that line all the walls of your
respiratory system. There are a few other mechanical actions
that also help your breathing. Throughout your entire body, you
have tissue that connects all parts together. It also has
muscles and bones. You may not be aware of it, but you have a
very strong layer of connective tissue that separates your
breathing cavity from your abdominal cavity. This is your
diaphragm and it plays a major role in moving air. (If these two
areas weren't separated, I could picture my stomach under my
shoulder and my bowel encircling my lungs!) Your posture also
contributes to a more open lung capacity. This kind of activity
occurs twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. And you don't
even need to think about it if you are healthy. It's a different
story if you are not.
This is the basic foundation of your body's respiratory system.
(Please don't use this for a term paper.) This information is to
help you understand the basics so you can keep healthy and
energized. Let's discuss aging. Aging is normal. We all get
older. There is no choice. You can certainly make it as
comfortable and youthful as it suits your personality, but
everyone ages. The outward appearance can be "adjusted" and
inside cavities can be patched up, but the inside foundational
parts "age".

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby
-----------------------DISCLAIMER
Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.
Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.
-----------------------END DISCLAIMER
You deserve it all folks. GO FOR IT!!
Yesterday I showed you there is a wonderful way you can
change your world to be what you want it to be. The secret I
mentioned is not new. It has been handed down through the
centuries and millennia. All the world’s sages have known
the way and have taught it. You were just so busy going to
work and living out your day you didn’t take the time to
look.
Some of you don’t want to think you are today what you
planned to be. Most of you will think that preposterous. Yet
I ask you, “If you didn’t get to where you are by your own
thinking, how did you get there?”
If you dodge the question you know the answer but are
unwilling to say it out loud.
Some of you will say “I didn’t want that car accident”. I
say to you that you may not have envisioned those specific
details but your negative thinking brings negative results.
When you stop looking at the world through complaints,
negativity and problems you begin to change what happens to
you.
Look, instead, at all things as positive. If you can’t find
something positive about the problem then turn away and find
something positive. That will begin to attract positive
things and when that becomes a way of life for you then you
are well on your way to good health and prosperity. The
negative things will drop away.
When that happens you will come to realize how negativity
has shaped your life and how being positive has brought
blessings.
Once this realization comes to you the only thing you then
must contend with is “how much”. The universe is unlimited.
Only you have limited yourself by placing limits on what you
think you deserve.
You deserve it all folks. GO FOR IT!!

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
In The Groove: Why do we say in approval of a musician's
improvisations, "He's in the groove"?
The allusion is to the phonograph record and needle. When
the needle is "in the groove" the music sounds fine; when it
is out of the groove it's terrible.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HA! HA! HA!
An aquarium is just interactive television for cats.
Anything on the ground is a cat toy. Anything not there yet,
will be.
At least dogs do what you tell them to do. Cats take a
message and get back to you.
Buy a dog a toy and it will play with it for ever. Buy a cat
a present and it will play with the wrapper for 10 minutes.
Cat's motto: No matter what you've done wrong, always try to
make it look like the dog did it.
Cat rule #2: Bite the hand that won't feed you fast enough.
Cats are rather delicate creatures and they are subject to a
good many ailments, but I never heard of one who suffered
from insomnia.
Cats are smarter than dogs. You can't get eight cats to pull
a sled through snow.
Cats aren't clean, they're just covered with cat spit.
Cats don't hunt seals. They would if they knew what they
were and where to find them. But they don't, so that's all
right.
Cats instinctively know the exact moment their owners will
wake up. Then they wake them 10 minutes sooner.
Cats know what we feel. They don't care, but they know.
Cats seem to go on the principle that it never does any harm
to ask for what you want.
Dogs have owners. Cats have staff.
Dogs believe they are human. Cats believe they are God.
I had to get rid of my wife. The cat was allergic.!"
