What The World Thinks . . .
(These tidbits come from letters I receive and are exclusively
the opinion of the writers. Yet they serve to show you the depth of
attitude and opinion out there.)
Here is an excerpt from a letter I received . . .
" . . . I think there won't be much difference between immigrants
and anybody else when push comes to shove. Class is what
matters, not culture. Hungry desperate people are nasty.
The real issue will be food. How will people living in say
the U.S. interior, the southwest, and the urban northeast
eat? You can't grow food year round in most of those places,
and most people don't know anything about gardening.
I just watched the Cuba doc about peak oil "The Power OF
Community". The Cubans managed their peak by
a) strong authoritarian contral gov't--> no democracy, but
intelligent centralised planning made for very efficient
mass solutions (i.e. if gov't organises it, you can breed
5000 steers for ploughing much more efficiently than if 5000
farmers each tries to do one on their own)
b) most people have no weapons in Cuba = low crime.
c) you can garden/farm year round
d) they abandoned some of their socialist ideology and allowed
privatised small plots of land and food sales, combined with gov't
food vouchers-- very successful.
e) accepting social equality-- gap between wealthy and poor
in Cuba is not very great-- strong impact on crime as crime
(outside of inherently deviant individuals) has much to do
with social status frustrations.
f) socialised medicine and education, strong gov't support of
the unemployed-- reduced crime, made people's lives easier no less
stressful
g) above all-- community collaboration.
Most of these things are necessary for getting through peak;
most are un-American, heh heh. . . ."
Learn that "GLOBAL WARMING" is the least of man's problems . . .

TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------
So why do people in so many other countries drive on the
right, then?
What about Japan?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
What happened to the Amphicar?
Regulations and the high cost of producing the Amphicar
killed it. In 1968, the US Environmental Protection Agency
and the Department of Transportation put regulations in
place that made the Amphicar's emissions and bumper
unacceptable. Since the US represented about 90 percent of
all Amphicar sales, the new rules spelled disaster for the
Amphicar Corporation. Its factory in Berlin, Germany, closed
down in 1968. The car was already expensive to produce,
selling in the 1960s for between $2,800 and $3,400,
depending on the year. (For comparison, the VW Beetle sold
for $1,200 at the same time.)
Why do the British drive on the left?
Everything always comes down to keeping your sword hand
ready for fighting. In the days before cars, people tended
to keep to their left when passing others on the road in
order to be in the best position to defend themselves. (They
were living in a feudal society; they had to be careful!)
Jousting knights with their lances under their right arm
naturally passed on each other's right, and if you passed a
stranger on the road you walked on the left so that your
protective sword arm was between yourself and him. This
practice was made official in a Papal Edict by Pope Benefice
around 1300 AD. The Pope told all his pilgrims to keep to
the left. In 1773, the UK government introduced the General
Highways Act of 1773 to deal with the increase in horse
traffic on the roads. The government recommended everyone
keep to the left. In 1835, they made it an actual law.

OPTIMIZE LIFE NOW™ . . . with Dr. Rhoberta Shaler

Would You Rather Be Wealthy
Would you rather be wealthy or poverty-stricken? Not a
difficult question to answer, is it? How do you think your
thoughts impact on your financial state?
Just as the earth contains in its depths great riches--oil,
diamonds, gold, uranium, silver, gas and countless other
things--you also have the real riches of life deep within
you. Your innate intelligence and your willingness to use
your mind are precious. Begin mining within!
There is a great story about a poor miner in Scotland who
was often unable to even provide shoes for his children.
His young son came to him and told him that he wanted to be
a surgeon. His father asked him why he wanted that career
and he said that a friend at school had had cataracts. An
eye surgeon had operated on his friend and now he could see
perfectly. The young boy said that he wanted to be able to
help people in that same way.
The father told his son that he had saved $8,000 for his
education but would prefer that he worked his way through
medical school and then use that money to set himself up in
a medical practice in a fine neighborhood. The boy did so.
He worked nights and weekends and finally graduated. He
wanted to live up to his promise to his father and not touch
the money in the bank until he graduated.
When he graduated, his father told him that there really was
no money in the bank. The new surgeon was completely at a
loss for words for a few minutes. Then both he and his
father burst out laughing. The son realized that his father
had really engendered the feeling of wealth in his son and
it had given him the courage, faith and confidence to
believe in his ability to earn his way through medical
school.
The secret of success, accomplishment, achievement and
fulfillment of your goals lies in the discovery of the
amazing power of your thoughts and feelings. You must come
to a clear-cut decision that you intend to be successful.
Impress your subconscious with love, confidence, right
action, abundance, security and good humor and it will
always be there for you to "mine"! What you think and keep
in mind, you will create.
REMEMBER, WHAT YOU PAY ATTENTION TO EXPANDS!

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - - by Karin Henderson
What If...Reflecting On Chemicals Going Into Your Body
PART 2 of 5
As human beings we will do a lot to avoid our pain and move
towards or restore our pleasure. Thus we seem to be caught in a
culture of chemical "support" and think little about the
negative results we might encounter. I am speaking of drugs that
move you from pain, anxiety, and suffering to happiness, health,
and wellness. And most people think drugs can help them achieve
this goal. Yet these same people choose to believe that alcohol,
smoking, and other "recreational drugs" might not be the best
for them. They make a conscious effort to eliminate from their
environment. Governments go to great lengths and spending in ad
campaigns to show how cigarettes and alcohol are unhealthy for
your body. They let you see some gruesome side effects.
What we don't seem to get is that any kind of chemical might
also be a problem. And that could include your medications!
People don't seek help when they are well. They seek it when
they get to a level of discomfort where they can't cope: they
need or want relief from their symptoms. They want to restore
their wellness. I had an interesting request a short while ago.
Someone wanted to know how I defined health and wellness. Here
is how Mosby's describes "health" as a condition of physical,
mental, and social wellbeing and the absence of disease or
rather abnormalities. (Mosby 5th Edition page 732) It describes
"wellness" as a dynamic state of health in which an individual
progresses toward a higher level of functioning, achieving an
optimum balance between internal and external environments.
(Mosby 5th Edition page 1728) It turned out to be another
student assignment! Frankly, I was glad to help with that one as
it showed a very progressive teacher.
It is my personal opinion that most people want health and
wellness although I suspect a tiny group need their symptoms to
maintain their lifestyle. So when people contact us it is
because they aren't happy with their state of wellbeing.
Out of curiosity, they seek explanations for their symptoms. And
here is the most interesting part...many people recognize that
alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine may all be harmful but they are
also told to add white flour and sugar on that "forbidden list".
Ironically they are then given an anti-hypertensive or
anti-depressant or anti-cholesterol medication. The point is
that everything on this forbidden list is suspected to add
chemicals to their bodies. And as you learned in high school
chemistry, chemicals added to chemicals equal potential
problems. And drugs are chemicals, too.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby
-----------------------DISCLAIMER
Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.
Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

Has There Been A "Turn Of The Wheel?"
There was a time when I used to think that the U.S. had a
problem with their “win at all costs” attitude in respect of
world affairs. I felt it was objectionable to many countries
and many peoples. It still likely is, however, I have
noticed a “turning of the wheel” and a news report today
confirmed my suspicions.
An oilfield in Ethiopia, run by the Chinese, was attacked by
Somali insurgents. 74 men were killed.
That is not a good thing. I am not sure what the Somali’s
want. Yet you will notice the U.S. had nothing to do with
it. In this case it was the Chinese.
Is it possible the provocation for wars is changing? Is it
possible that peoples around the world are no longer
objecting to the U.S. “win at all costs” policy so much as
the fight is now on for oil? Or for food?
Are we seeing the forerunner of wars, killing, death and
destruction over food?
I am no political scientist. I’m no rocket scientist either.
So the things I see and think about need not be taken as
authoritative. They are the simple observations of a common
man. Yet I ask you . . .
Think on these things.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Pagan: How did a "pagan" get that name?
The Christian Church made its first converts in the cities,
its next in the villages and its last in the country.
"Pagan" is from the Latin pagus and literally means
"belonging to a village."

HA! HA! HA!
A guy walks into a bar with his dog on a leash the barman
says, “Geez that's a weird dog: he's stumpy-legged, pink,
and doesn't have a tail, but I bet my rottweiler would beat
the heck out of it.”
50 bucks is laid down. Out in the yard the rottweiler gets
mauled to pieces.
Another drinker says his pit bull will win but the bet is
100 bucks.
Another trip to the yard and when it's finished there are
bits of pit-bull terrier all over the place.
The drinker pays up and says, “Say what breed is that
anyway?”
The owner says, “Until I cut his tail off and painted it
pink it was the same breed as every other alligator.”
