ANSWERS TO LAST TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Does Switzerland have a military?
Many people assume that since Switzerland remains neutral in
war, it has no military. Nothing could be further from the
truth. In fact, Switzerland is one of the few countries with
universal military conscription for all men between the ages
of twenty and fifty. This means that when a Swiss male
reaches twenty years of age, he must undergo fifteen weeks
of military training. Over the next few decades, he is
required to accrue many more hours of training. Swiss men
who live outside the country are exempt from military
service, but must pay two percent of their income as a
military exemption tax (as must any man unfit for military
service). Switzerland is actually a very well defended
nation. It has developed extensive mobilization plans and is
prepared for invasion. Should an attack occur, the country
is ready to destroy every bridge, tunnel, and pass leading
into Switzerland. Swiss per capita military spending is
higher than that of most other European nations.
Is it true that there's "a rifle in every Swiss home"?
Sort of. Switzerland is the only country in the world where
military personnel take their weapons home when not on duty
(and since every young adult male is part of the military,
that's a lot of guns). It is often said that every home in
Switzerland is armed. It is certainly the case that during
World War II, Hitler's advisors warned him that the Swiss
were armed and would defend their homes.

COVER STORY . . .
------------------------------------
A SAD DAY
Ladies and gentlemen, this is a sad day for me. After 15
years of publishing a newsletter daily, the last 10 of which
were thePEBBLE I have reached the decision to cease
publication.
It saddens my heart to do so for a large number of reasons,
yet it has become obvious in my life that I am to embark on
a different chapter.
No, I am not ill. In fact I am healthier than ever before.
It is that time constraints have imploded on me and some
things have to change. Unfortunately, this time, it is
thePEBBLE.
For 15 years I have been faithful to the cause, often
missing out on family events, postponing holidays, missing
sleep and saying no to things to which I should have been
saying “yes”.
I have enjoyed this journey on space ship earth, with you,
for a while now and events dictate I go in another
direction.
During this period I have tried to give you the best ideas,
truths, wisdom of which I am capable. I have asked nothing
in return and it has pleased me. I can only hope it has
similarly pleased you.
No, I am not selling my subscription list to anyone, so your
email addresses are safe with me. However, if someone out
there wishes to continue thePEBBLE I will entertain your
proposition. You need only write me to let me know.
This has been an incredible journey for me. I have met so
many wonderful people it is hard for me to leave. There are
many of you out there who know how much I love you but there
are two in particular who have earned special kudos.
First, Karin Henderson. Karin is a registered nurse living
in British Columbia, Canada. She has faithfully served you
and thePEBBLE for years now, taking time from her life and
from her family. She has submitted articles that were sound
of judgment and advice and may well have been a life saver
for many of you. All too often Karin has done this without
thanks, without receiving any love or appreciation. If it is
true there is such a thing as angels, Karin is most
certainly one of them. I encourage you to write Karin and
say thank you for all she has done for you. You can reach
her at kflh@shaw.ca
Karin, from thePEBBLE, me, thank you for your years of
service and for all your kindnesses expressed over those
years. I love you for who and what you are and it is purely
a wonderful pleasure to know you. My blessings unto you for
your future.
The next person who has always been there is Dr. Rhoberta
Shaler. Rhoberta has regularly submitted articles to us and
been steadfast in her support of our endeavors. She is
another to whom I send my love, my best wishes and my
blessings for a long and prosperous future. Thank you
Rhoberta, you and your entire staff.
thePEBBLE will stop publication after next Friday’s issue.
Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for being there. Thank you
for being the audience for an opinionated individual. One of
the things that has promoted my ceasing publication is what
I found in my research over the last year on the subject of
global warming.
I say this to you as a friend and for no other reason. I
encourage you to join us at the thinksurvival.org site. It
may well be helpful to your futures. This is encouragement
from a friend.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - - with Karin Henderson
What If...Reflecting On Chemicals Going Into Your Body
PART 5 of 5
All your meds come with list of possible side effects or
complications. I asked the lady with the blood pressure and
cholesterol meds if she had read the documentation that came
with the drugs. She said she had not done that. Instead she
asked her doctors and pharmacist if there were any interactions.
Everyone felt she was safe. Now she needs to read the papers.
Have you ever watched the TV commercials for drugs? I find them
very interesting. By law, drug companies have to declare
possible complications and side effects. Yes, the information is
both printed...it runs across the screen. I have never been able
to read the complete message. And yes, it is read aloud. But the
lifestyle imagery in the overall picture is so captivating, that
I loose my concentration and watch that instead! And of course,
I block out or never even hear any of the negative
possibilities! I suggest you listen more carefully than I do.
Those messages are vital to your health. If there can be no
possible side effects or complications, it would mean no
documentation is required. If you do see or hear about possible
side effects, some people must be a part of the statistics.
Otherwise they wouldn't need to be mentioned.
My point, with this information, is to make you aware and to get
you to think! Pay close attention to what is entering your body;
include washing soap, toothpaste, and a huge variety of personal
care products. And don't forget to think of your environment:
the chemicals you breathe in, the additives and preservatives in
food, the fertilizers outside, and any enhancers such as
sulfites, MSG, etc. The list is a long one. All of these
chemicals ride along with you. Are they providing you with
health and wellness? Reflect on these ideas and take back some
control.
This information was intended to help you understand your body
and its functions. If you have a medical problem, please seek
appropriate advice.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby
-----------------------DISCLAIMER
Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.
Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

Our Time Together Drawing To A Close
If you have read the title story you know I am ceasing
publication of thePEBBLE. In this column I have vented upon
you all the conclusion I have come to from reading the
staggering mountains of material that crosses my desk.
Thank you for letting me bend your ear. I dare say there are
some times when you wondered why on earth you ever listened
to any tripe you read here. Yet, maybe you had a laugh or
two at someone who could possible come up with such
conclusions. I hope so.
In the cover story I have encouraged you to join us in the
thinksurvival.org site. All of our futures are going to face
conditions we will be addressing there. This is no small
encouragement. It will truly be important to you.
If not, that’s okay too. It has been a pleasure to serve you
and I offer my blessings unto each as our term together here
at thePEBBLE draws to a close.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Radar: How did "radar" get its name?
It's just a combination of the initial letters of "radio
direction and ranging" - an exact description ow what it
does.

HA! HA! HA!
The Right Approach...
Two married buddies are out drinking one night when one
turns to the other and says, "You know, I don't know what
else to do. Whenever I go home after we've been out
drinking, I turn the headlights off before I get to the
driveway. I shut off the engine and coast into the garage.
I take my shoes off before I go into the house, I sneak up
the stairs, I get undressed in the bathroom. I ease into bed
and my wife STILL wakes up and yells at me for staying out
so late!"
His buddy looks at him and says, "Well, you're obviously
taking the wrong approach. I screech into the driveway, slam
the door, storm up the steps, throw my shoes into the
closet, jump into bed, slap her on the butt and say, 'You as
frisky as I am?' . . . and, she always acts like she's sound
asleep!"
