TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------
What is a funambulist?
Did Chinese scientists try to create a creature part human
and part rabbit?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
What insect lives the longest?
Most insects have very short life spans (some live only
a few hours). But a type of wood boring beetle has been
known to emerge from wood that has already been
manufactured into furniture - five decades later! Of course,
those decades were spent in a larval stage. What fun is that?
Is it true that premature babies were once featured as
sideshow attractions?
Sad, but true. French doctors developed incubators to
save the lives of premature babies in the late nineteenth
century. But hospitals weren't interested and the doctors
couldn't get funding to produce them. To raise money, they
began to set up exhibits of "incubator babies" at amusement
parks and World Fairs. One such exhibit ran for four decades
at New York's Coney Island. Customers would pay a quarter
in order to see the tiny babies. The parents of the babies
received free medical care for their infants. It sounds awful to
place babies on display, but thousands of preemies were
saved in this way.

High Expectations!
by Ken Darby
Three men, a doctor, an accountant and a lawyer are dead
and they appear in front of St Peter. St Peter tells them that
they have to answer one question in order to get to Heaven.
He looks at the doctor and asks, "There was a movie that
was made about a ship that sank after hitting an iceberg,
what was its name?" The doctor answers, "The Titanic"
and he is sent through. He then looks at the accountant
and says, "How many people died in that ship?" Fortunately
the accountant had just watched the movie and he answers,
"1500!". St Peter sends him through and then finally turns
to the lawyer and commands, in a very heavy voice,
"Name them!".
Wow! Is that a high expectation or what? I know this is a lawyer
joke but look behind the scenes. It makes me think of real life.
That is to say we often face those kind of things as we go
through life.
What I'm talking about it that the better you are at something
the more likely the world around you will have very high
expectations of you. I know that to be true in the world of
graphic arts. The better you are the more work gets piled on.
The way you react is up to you. Usually you are overburdened
and folks keep piling on more. It is a source of frustration until
you realize it comes to you because folks know they can rely
on you. That is what is really behind it.
There is another condition where folks have high expectations.
The condition is where those who seek the most for their dollar
keep demanding your attention over one sale. As always it is
wise to do your best to satisfy your customer. Yet this is one
area where sooner or later you will have to draw the demands
to a close. Your call.
And, finally there is one more condition where I know high
expectations are true. I know a friend who loaned some
money to an acquaintance. The man paid it back and all was
well. In the meantime my friend invested all his money into
what he considered a good investment. Then the
acquaintance came along and asked for another loan, to
which my friend responded "no" because he had no more
free cash. The acquaintance became immediately angry,
thinking my friend no longer trusted him. He gave no
consideration that it was my friends business what he
does with his money.
Lastly, there is a law you must know. "He to whom much
is given, much is expected." It means that if you are doing
well, others around you will expect you to aid them in some
way. It means that if you are talented you will be expected
to use those talents often for mankind. You might be like the
singer Enrico Caruso who once told his wife that yes he
wanted to go with her, but the voice had to be somewhere
else.
So what is the point? Learn these demands will be made
of you and set yourself a standard approach to them. It
might mean you must be very organized. It might mean
you must learn to give. It might mean you must learn to say
no. It could mean you must learn humility. Think on these
things and you will thereafter be able to handle...
High Expectations!

COMPUTER TIPS - - -
-------------------------
Cache
When you view a web page, it is stored on your computer's
hard drive. That store is your computer's cache. When you go
back to a page, your browser looks in the cache to see if
the page is there. If it is, it is displayed for you right
off your own hard drive.
It's faster that way to view a web page, since it doesn't
have to load via your slow modem connection.
But what if the page has changed? You won't see the new
web page. You'll see the old one stored on your computer.
To be sure you're seeing the latest pages, you can click the
'Refresh' or 'Reload' button. You can also hold down the
Shift key while clicking, to ensure you force your browser
to open the page from the server computer instead of from
your hard drive.
You should make a habit of doing that if you visit a Website
that you've visited before. Or you could be looking at an
older page - stored in your cache.
These cached pages also take up space on your computer. To
clean out your cache so it's not taking up any extra space
Do this Open Control Panel: Start go to Settings and Control Panel.
Double click on Internet Options icon.
Under Temporary Internet Files, click 'Settings' button.
Click 'Delete Files' under the Temporary Internet Files
area.
You're done. All the temporary Internet files are removed,
and your cache is cleaned out.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
JAMA Article The Use Of
Supplements In Adults
PART 2 of 2
2)The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA)
recently reversed a long-standing anti-vitamin policy by
publishing two scientific review articles recommending
multivitamin supplements for all adults.
The significance of this policy change is reflected in the
historically conservative stance of the American Medical
Association (AMA) and other respected health organizations
that have not been willing to advocate or acknowledge the
potential benefits of vitamins in the prevention of degenerative
disease. Traditionally, the AMA has been hesitant to routinely
recommend vitamin supplements, except during pregnancy or to
treat specific nutritional deficiencies.
Robert H. Fletcher, MD, MSc, and Kathleen M. Fairfield, MD,
DrPH, of Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public
Health, reviewed more than 30 years of science papers regarding
vitamins in relation to chronic diseases and published their
findings in two companion articles.
In the scientific review article, the researchers write that the
North American diet is generally sufficient to prevent overt
vitamin deficiency diseases such as pellagra, scurvy, and
beriberi. However, they explain, 'recent evidence has shown that
suboptimal levels of vitamins, even well above those causing
deficiency syndromes, are associated with increased risk of
chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease, cancer and
osteoporosis.' In
a clinical commentary, they note that 'a large proportion of the
general population' has less-than-optimal intakes of a number of
vitamins, exposing them to increased disease risk. In addition,
they counsel that, 'it appears prudent for all adults to take
vitamin supplements.'
from the body of evidence they reviewed, they concluded the
following:
- Folate and Vitamins B6 and B12 are required for homocysteine
metabolism and are associated with decreased coronary heart
disease risk.
- Folate may decrease the risk of neural tube defects and
certain cancers such as colorectal and breast cancers.
- Vitamin E and lycopene may decrease the risk of prostate
cancer.
- Vitamin D is associated with decreased occurrence of fractures
when taken with calcium.
Fletcher and Fairfield advise using, 'multivitamins, rather than
individual vitamins, because multivitamins are simpler to take
and cheaper than the individual vitamins taken separately and
because a large proportion of the population needs supplements
of more than one vitamin.'
For a decade, USANA Health Sciences has been a leader in
providing high quality nutritional supplements containing
optimal levels of vitamins, minerals and other important
nutrients. Now
finally, the medical community is acknowledging the value of
nutritional supplements for disease prevention. Poor nutrition
and poor lifestyle choices have an immediate impact on health
and the development of chronic degenerative diseases later in
life.
It is obvious that most of us receive less-than-optimal intakes
of a number of nutrients from our diets, and supplementation is
a convenient and effective way to improve an inadequate diet.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

They cleaned up the camp, making the mats
vanish and leaving no trace they were even there.
Mae and Susan each took one of Tlang's hands and
in an instant they were at the supper fire in front of
David and Pam's. Little Maz was there as was
Mae Eloise. They had just finished supper.
"Oh hi you guys. Imagine seeing you here.
Thanks for dropping in. I see you brought a guest
with you. Hello Tlang. How are you? Welcome to our
home." David surprised her by calling her by name
without having heard it. That registered with
Tlang.
"Tlang, this is my son David and his wife Pam.
These are their children Maz and Mae Eloise. Are
you hungry? Would you like something to eat? We
didn't have breakfast."
"Okay" All the while Tlang was speaking and
listening to Mae she was watching Maz and Mae
Eloise. Children have a tendency to drift
together.
Mae manifested some food which she, Tlang and
Susan ate, being their breakfast. From the time
they had awakened until now was less than an hour.
It was a little much for Tlang to understand for
at age six you have no idea of the scope of what
this travel had covered. Tlang was not an educated
child, not having yet gone to school, therefore,
like all children she just accepted what was and
went with it.
"It is a wonder" thought Mae. "If we could all
be like little children how easy it would be to
accept our Maker's world."
"You're right there, Mae" came thoughts back
into her head.
Mae wheeled around and there was Eloise and
Mazunta.
Mae and Susan jumped up and ran to her. They
hugged and kissed like long lost buddies. Both Mae
and Susan had a real soft spot for Eloise.
"My, you are with child again, I see" said
Susan. "That's wonderful."
"Yes, we decided to have another child to keep
little AliAnne company. She is just over a year
now and will be nearly two when her little brother
or sister comes along."
"Mazunta, how are things going. You look calm
and collected as usual. I see you are looking
after your family well."
"I'm fine, Mae. It is good to have you back We
have missed you. You too, Miss Susan. It is good
to see you again. Are you two with us for long,
and who is this you brought along? Hello Tlang."
Tlang couldn't believe this. Here was the
second person who called her by name without even
knowing it. "I...I..hello, sir" Tlang spoke in her
native Chinese.
"Hello Tlang. My name is Mazunta and this if
my wife Eloise. You will find the people in our
village call her Missy. And this is our little
girl AliAnne. It is good to have you visit our
village. Do you know where you are?"
"No. I just came for a visit with Miss Mae and
with Miss Susan."
"You are half way around the world from where
you live. This is South America and you live in
China. I imagine this is the first time you have
travelled with Mae and Susan, is that right?"
"Yes it is."
"Well, get used to it. They will be taking you
all sorts of places. They are two wonderful girls
and they will treat you very well. I'm sorry to
know of your parents and the terrible things that
have happened to you. That is passed now. You are
in good hands, and, if you let them teach you the
ways of your Maker you will be able to travel like
them."
"Hello Mrs. Wiley, Mrs. Miles. How are you
two?" The voice was from someone coming up behind
Eloise and Mazunta.
"Oh! Tim! How are you?" Susan moved over to
him and gave him a big hug. "I haven't seen you
for a long time and I certainly didn't expect to
see you here. Hello Tom. Billy, it is good to see
you. How are you making out. It is a surprise to
see you here."
"We're all fine Mrs. Miles. It is nice to see
you again." They answered.
"Missy, how are your folks?"
"They're fine Mrs. Miles. I was thinking of
asking them down for the evening fire but they are
having the Strikers over for a visit tonight."
"Eloise. Invite the Strikers too!" Susan was
getting excited. This was turning out to be a real
reunion with friends she dearly loved.
Mae was beginning to feel the same way. "It is
nice to see you boys. You have all grown so
quickly. Living by higher law does that. Maturity
comes fast with this knowledge. How do you like
all this Billy? I'll bet life has taken on quite a
turn for you since you met the Henrys."
