Don't Take It Personal!

There was a feud between the Pastor and the Choir
Director of a Church.
It seems the first hint of trouble came when the Pastor
preached on "Dedicating Yourselves to Service" and
the Choir Director chose to sing: "I Shall Not Be Moved".
Trying to believe it was a coincidence, the Pastor
put the incident behind him. The next Sunday he
preached on "Giving." Afterwards, the choir squirmed
as the director led them in the hymn: "Jesus Paid It
All".
By this time, the Pastor was losing his temper. Sunday
morning attendance swelled as the tension between the
two built. A large crowd showed up the next week to hear
his sermon on "The Sin of Gossiping." Would you believe
the Choir Director selected the song: "I Love To Tell
The Story"?
There was no turning back. The following Sunday the
Pastor told the congregation that unless something
changed, he was considering resignation. The entire
church gasped when the Choir Director led them
in: "Why Not Tonight"?
Truthfully, no one was surprised when the Pastor resigned
a week later, explaining that Jesus had led him there and
Jesus was leading him away. The Choir Director could not
resist: "What A Friend We Have In Jesus."
Undoubtedly this feud developed only because the
preacher was taking everything personal. While you may
say no, consider this: when it becomes clear to an
adversary that he/she is getting to you they will automatically
continue, even when it is not their intent. It is an automatic
human response and it takes great self control to avoid it. It's
just human nature, animal nature too, for that matter.
Had the preacher not taken it personally, laughed it off and
even attempted to make a contest out of it he could have
used the Choir Directors determination against him. That is
what happens when you don't take things personal, you
maintain clear thinking and a clear head.
Your emotions will lead you down the garden path to self
destruction or poorer conditions. Only clear thinking will
keep you ahead and on your chosen path.
Do not believe your emotions. They will always take you
away from your truth. When you take things personal you
don't see clearly. You miss out on controlling the situation
and are controlled by it. Your reaction is based on no reason
other than personal feelings, emotion based, and therefore
not clear thinking.
The story above about the pastor reveals the pastor to have
child like reactions to the Choir Directors actions. The Choir
Director was wrong, too, but that is another story for another
day. The topic today is about not taking things personally.
The Pastor did, and lost.

If you're using Internet Explorer or Netscape check at the
Websites to see how up to date your browser is. There are
many other browsers out there, but these are by far the most
popular.
Why use a later model? They're more versatile. They'll
display pages and the stuff on them easier and faster. And
if you're into printing web pages, Internet Explorer has a
great printing feature that lets you preview your printed
page first.
tips:
To open a new browser, hold down the Ctrl key and press
'N'. A New window will open. You can have a bunch of browser
windows open at the same time.
To visit a site you've typed into the address bar in the
recent past, click the drop down arrow to the right of the
address line. There will be a list of sites there.
If you remember a site, but can't remember its address,
you can check your history. IE has a nice history feature.
Just click the History icon to start. If you have no icon,
click View then Toolbars then Customize. Scroll down
until you see the History Icon in the left pane, highlight
it, and click Add, then Close.
To open Internet Explorer to full screen, click the
Full Screen icon or press F 11.
Press again to put it back where it was.
There are lots of things you can do with your browser.
Just click and see what happens.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
A Good Reason To Keeping
Your Skin Healthy
PART 2 of 5
Microorganisms thrive in places like this, and disease-causing
ones are very quick to take over. The area is warm, moist, dark
and filled with nutrients. These microorganisms really dislike cool,
dry, bright and clean environments. So that is what I wanted to
help him create. (It wouldn’t be possible to bring light to the area,
but everything else could be made less appealing for these
microorganisms.)
Long ago, he had learned all about personal hygiene and had
prided himself on his appearance, but as he became more isolated,
he began to let things slide. It was easier to have baths “another
day”…which sometimes didn’t materialism for many days. His
caregivers didn’t always ask or check to make sure he did bathe.
(This is why families, who have seniors living alone, should
check up on them and ask specific questions. They should also
provide some safety measures in bathrooms and create
“user friendly” and appealing spaces.)
I made some suggestions as to what he could do immediately.
He needed to get some clean facecloths, mild soap, and soft
towels. He was to wash his genitals with mild soap and warm
facecloth and then, very, very gently, dry the area completely. As
we were talking it was about 11 PM. He was to get some clean
soft pajamas and try not to touch the area if he could manage it.
(I sympathized with his pain and itchiness). He was to do this
each time he had to use the bathroom facilities. He resisted a
bit with this as he felt he was creating a lot of extra work for the
care aide, but I assured him that it was her job, and not to worry
about that right now. I knew the care aide would be happy
because he would be feeling so much better. (Care aids are
very special people!)

He stepped back. "Wow! We better slow down.
This is new territory to me. I can hardly breath.
She came at him again and held him, never wanting
to let him go.
Tim sat down and patted the ground motioning
for her to sit. She sat beside him and enfolded
her arms within his. "Sharon, I didn't mean for
all this to happen so quickly. I want to take our
time that we may be sure of what we are doing, and
we are in the back yard of a friend, not alone. Can we
take some time to cool down and then go visit for a while?"
"Yes we can, but don't leave me. I want you
forever."
It was all Tim could do to get up, straighten
up and get ready to go around the front of the hut
to see Sonora, Kenyata and Mombudo. Sharon was
flushed, as was he. He took her hand and walked
away from the hut and down the hill toward the
plains. They did not go far, just enough to gather
their composure once more. Having done so they
turned around and began to walk toward Sonora's
place.
"Hi folks! How are you today?"
"Tim!" Sonora came running and gave him a big
hug. Kenyata and Mombudo rose and came over to him
and likewise gave him a big hug.
"Mombudo, Kenyata and Sonora, this is a friend
of mine. Her name is Sharon. I thought she might
like to travel here to meet you, so we came for a
visit."
"Welcome Sharon" Kenyata gave Sharon a hug.
"Welcome Sharon" Sonora did the same and
Mombudo gave his usual "humpf" and held out his
hand to shake Sharon's.
"Come, you two. We were just having supper.
Join us" said Kenyata.
They did. They all sat around the cooking fire
and Kenyata served them a meal of vegetable mush,
along with some cooked strips of antelope. For
dessert they had some flat bread kind of thing
that had been sweetened with cow's milk that had
been left to evaporate in large flat pans. In the
African sun that process does not take long.
"What time is it here?" Sharon was confused by
the travel. At her place, when they left it was
close to four in the morning. Here it was now six
in the afternoon. The trip had been so fast it was
hard for Sharon to grasp what had happened. She
was still having trouble realizing she was in
Africa.
They stayed and talked for an hour. Then they
excused themselves and left for home. They arrived
around seven. They quietly whispered.
"Tim that was wonderful. I have never been out
of this state, let alone off the continent. Those
are nice people. Do they also live by higher law?"
"Yes" he whispered. He took her in his arms
and kissed her. This time he probed just a little
further. She moaned deeply. She fit into his body
as if made for it.
"Sharon, I must go now. Your folks will be up
soon. You must put in an appearance. Remember you
can keep up the pressure to see me but always,
always treat your folks with love and kindness.
Soon they will see the wisdom of letting you make
up your own mind."
"Can you do anything to help me out?"
"Yes, Sharon, I can, but I will not."
"What do you mean?" Sharon was flabergasted.
Why wouldn't he help out if he could?
"I can cause their minds to think in favor of
our meeting. But if I do that I will be changing
the normal course of events for our selfish
purpose. That is not the way."
"But if it would work we could be together!"
"Yes, Sharon, but under false pretenses. If we
are to have a relationship that is worthy and will
last then we must tackle it honestly and head on.
Think for a minute. Let's say you are God, looking
down from the heavens. You know that you can
create conditions that will bring all people to
you. Yet what good would that be? To force all to
do your will is to have them eventually want to
rebel or go to the next highest bidder. God set
forth knowledge for all to see. Those who wisely
make the choice will come to him and those will be
an army stronger than any in earth. So, too, with
us and your parents. If we force the situation
using my ability to change things that would
eventually fail and come to hurt us. If we
continue to reason with them, lovingly, they will
come to see, yield and forever support you. Which
would you rather have?"
"Oh! You're so wise. I want my parents love
and support. I'll do it the hard way, if I can see
you when I want."
"We'll see each other" he whispered, at three
this afternoon, right?"
"Yes."
"Then I must go." He put his arms around her
and kissed her. Half way through the kiss she
turned her body so his hand was resting on her
breast. He lovingly squeezed it, then vanished.
