ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -

What famous poet said: "No man is an island"?
John Donne (1572 -1631) wrote:
No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece
of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed
away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a
promontory were, as well as any manner of thy friends or of
thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am
involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for
whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
Are scientists still discovering new animals?
Sure. It might seem as though humans have explored every
part of the planet and identified everything there is to
identify, but new species are actually being found all the
time. Sadly, many other species die out before being
discovered.

Is Your Inner Critic Working Over-Time?
Do you have an Inner Critic who seems to always be on duty?
It is that voice that sounds so sure and authoritative as it
tears at your self-esteem and whittles away at your
self-confidence. You can actually look spectacular, healthy
and fit and it will fixate on the part of your body you like
the least. Sound familiar?
It is not the exact words that this voice utters that
matter. It is the quality of the energy behind the
words...and it is often not positive. Interestingly enough,
the voice is usually not telling the truth. In fact, it is
not even close to being based in reality. It is such a
strange phenomenon. A hundred people could tell you that
you look terrific today, and that one lonely, miserable
Inner Critic can cause you to decide that all one hundred of
those folks are wrong! When you look at it that way, it
seems ludicrous, doesn't it?
Let me tell you a story from my own life. From the time I
was nine years old, I was told that I needed to diet,
change, do more, do less, reach, settle, conform, stretch.
The message from my folks was that no matter what I did I
would never be good enough. Sound familiar again? Once I
was an adult, the content of that message shifted from my
weight to my career and mothering ability, but the outcome
was the same--no matter what I did I would never be good
enough. If I paid attention to my career--and, as a single
mother of three, there was no choice if we wanted to eat--my
parents insisted that I was not giving my children enough of
my time. If I paid attention to my children, I was wasting
my life being a mother. What a Catch-22! My parents were
invested in control. Making it impossible for me to "win"
allowed them to think they were in control. Fortunately, I
saw their game when I was seventeen and gave their opinions
less weight than they thought. Or, at least, that is what I
thought!
At forty or so, I was making photograph albums for my three
children. As I went through all the photos from my parents'
home and mine, I found myself in tears. Why? Because, in
looking at forty years of photos of me, I could see no
evidence of the person they described when I looked at
myself. The person in those photos was just fine just the
way she was. And yet, that Inner Critic had been
well-informed with those repeated messages. My tears were
for the early years of striving to gain the approval of
folks whose opinions I really did not value. I tell that
story because I know it is a common one. Fortunately, at
age nineteen, Maxwell Maltz and I became friends through his
books. Everything changed!
If your Inner Critic has way too much to say, consciously
turn it off. When it begins, change the channel to one that
is supportive, one that encourages you to live fully,
stretch and grow--all on your own terms. You can do this!

The Relationship of Oral Health to Overall
Health and Longevity
by Tom McGuire, D.D.S.
PART 17 of 31
In another important study, researchers collected
dietary intake data about the food and nutrient intake
of 49,501 male health professionals. The results showed
that toothless participants consumed fewer vegetables
and less fiber and carotene, and had higher
cholesterol, saturated fat, and calories than
participants with 25 or more teeth. They concluded that
these factors could increase the risks of cancer and
cardiovascular disease.
I would again like to point out that the vast majority
of tooth loss is caused by dental disease, either decay
or periodontal disease. It is true that once the teeth
have been removed, periodontal disease, and its
resultant infection, will be eliminated. But as the
above studies point out, the problems facing edentulous
individuals do not end with the elimination of
periodontal infection. In fact, they face an entirely
new set of health problems.
Immune System Health professionals understand that
infection stresses the immune system. It is also
obvious that the more serious the infection and the
longer it persists, the more the immune system is
affected. At some point, the immune system can become
so compromised that its ability to resist additional
infections and diseases could be seriously diminished.
This weakness could put the various body systems at
risk and create a domino effect in regard to diseases
and infections.
We also know that when the immune system is compromised
any health problem directly or indirectly related to it
will be negatively affected. It is obvious that dental
infections, especially periodontal disease, periapical
abscesses and cavitations, have a deleterious affect on
the immune system and would jeopardize the successful
treatment of any medical treatment for any immune
related disease.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

Ted turned to face Bob and Harriett Smithson.
"You are most fortunate to have a relationship
with these folks. I have never met anyone so
willing to help others, so willing to do what is
right even when others would not, so even tempered
and always holding the welfare of others before
their own, plus all this without wanting so much
as a thanks. They have turned my life around
completely. I am sure they will be as terrific to
you as they have to me."
"Ted simmer down man. We aren't all you make
us out to be." Tim was a little embarrassed, yet
he knew the ways of man and he understood Ted.
"It isn't in me to be so complimentary, Tim. I
just appreciate you and your family."
"That's fine, Ted. I appreciate it."
Tim turned to Bob and Harriett. "I really hope
you two enjoyed the wedding. All those guests
could have been overpowering."
"Tim it was fine." Harriett came over to him
and hugged him. "It surprised us when they had to
leave so suddenly but we appreciated everyone of
them. I'm surprised my cake went so far."
Tim and Sharon looked at Alewka and winked.
They both knew Alewka had extended the cake as was
necessary.
"How many guests did you have?" Ted asked. He
was inquisitive.
"Close to 400, Ted. Nearly all of them live by
higher law. They were called away to help out a
tragedy in South West Asia."
"You mean that earthquake? That was a bad one.
Nearly 30,000 people killed and thousands more
missing. That is part of what kept me from getting
here when I wanted to."
"How would that keep you from coming, Ted?"
Tim asked innocently.
"When news like that breaks we get word of it
through a wire service. Those are organizations
that have people in the field all over the world
and when something happens they put it on the
wire. News media like ours subscribe to such
services and we get what is put on the wire. We
then decide what we will report on and how. That
means someone like myself has to analyze what is
happening, decide what part or all of it to report
on and what is to be said. When an incident like
that happens the wire services are flooded with
stories. It takes a lot of time to filter out the
ones you want."
"That makes sense. Tell me, would you like to
take an hour and go over there to see with your
own eyes?"
Ted couldn't believe his ears. "What did you
say?"
"I asked if you would like to take an hour out
of your day and go over there, with me, to see
what is happening, first hand?"
Ted Kuzik had never in the world thought he
would have such an opportunity. The newsman in him
was driving him crazy. It wanted to grab Tim and
force him to go. The new Ted Kuzik, however, was
considerably more reserved. "Y ... yes, Tim. I
would like that. I have never done such a thing.
Are you sure its all right?"
"Of course. You don't mind do you Sharon,
honey. Will you stay and visit with the folks or
would you like to come along?"
"I'll stay, Tim. I'll wait for your return."
"We'll be off then." Tim reached for Ted
Kuzik's hand and in the instant their hands
touched they were over the earthquake zone.
From this unseen plain Ted could see
everything that was happening. He could even see
those masters of higher law, invisible to the
common man, working to settle things down, help
people out, heal people and render them whole.
The area of devastation was huge. The earth
had split open for a distance of 55 miles. At the
worst spot it had not only split but one side had
dropped some 50 feet from where it was and the
chasm between the two newly separated pieces was
at least 85 feet across. There were people,
animals, huts, vehicles and all manner of refuse
in the chasm and there was a concentration of aid
workers doing their best to get people out.
Those who live by higher law were able to lift
huge boulders off people. They were able to move
refuse and clear paths for aid workers.
At the bottom of the chasm and for the entire
length there was water flowing. It was not a small
stream, but rather becoming a huge amount of water
as if the chasm had cut into a river and forever
changed its course. As Tim and Ted observed from
high above the ruins they could see for miles in
all directions. They followed the chasm from one
end to the other. It had intersected with a river
and there was water pouring into it from both
sides. Even the down stream side was now flowing
into it.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HA! HA! HA!
After a long illness, a woman died and arrived at the Gates
of Heaven. While she was waiting for Saint Peter to greet
her, she peeked through the Gates. She saw a beautiful
banquet table. Sitting all around were her parents and all
the other people she had loved and who had died before her.
They saw her and began calling greetings to her- "Hello"
"How are you! We've been waiting for you!" "Good to see
you".
When Saint Peter came by, the woman said to him "This is
such a wonderful place! How do I get in?"
"You have to spell a word", Saint Peter told her.
"Which word?", the woman asked.
"Love."
The woman correctly spelled "Love" and Saint Peter welcomed
her into Heaven. About a year later, Saint Peter came to the
woman and asked her to watch the Gates of Heaven for him
that day. While the woman was guarding the Gates of Heaven,
her husband arrived. "I'm surprised to see you", the woman
said.
"How have you been?"
"Oh, I've been doing pretty well since you died", her
husband told her. "I married the beautiful young nurse who
took care of you while you were ill. And then I won the
lottery. I sold the little house you and I lived in and
bought a big mansion. And my wife and I traveled all around
the world. We were on vacation and I went water skiing
today. I fell, the ski hit my head, and here I am. How do I
get in?"
"You have to spell a word", the woman told him.
"Which word?", her husband asked.
"Czechoslovakia."
