TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------
What does the "SPF" in sunscreen mean anyway?
What is that white stuff that life guards wear on their
noses?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
How much does it rain in a rain forest?
Rain forests generally receive anywhere from 150 to 400
inches of rain annually!
How does sunscreen protect your skin?
Most sunscreens have ingredients that absorb the energy in
ultraviolet rays and emit it back as lower-frequency heat
waves. The SPF number determines how much protection you
get. The higher the SPF, the more ultraviolet rays the
sunscreen is capable of absorbing and re-emitting.

Study Finds People Search, Don't Surf Web Sites
LEST THERE WAS ANY DOUBT that search engines have made
inroads on surfing behavior, a study released Tuesday by
BURST! Media should put it to rest. Just 16 percent of
13,000 surveyed Web users age 14 and older said they
navigate the Web via links from other sites or ads. The
majority of respondents, 56 percent, use search engines to
get where they want to be online, while 28 percent either
have their destinations' URLs bookmarked or type them in. --

E-mail, Soprano Style
by Bill McCloskey,
HERE'S SOME RECENT NEWS FROM Russia: On July 25, Vardan
Kushnir age 35 was bludgeoned to death in his apartment in
Moscow. Normally this would not be news: From January to May
of this year alone there were 1,935 unsolved murders in
Moscow. However, in this case, Vardan Kushnir was Moscow's
premier spammer. No wonder Scott Richter got out of the spam
game! Apparently Vardan was selling some language courses,
unrelentingly, with both text and HTML e-mails. And,
according to Anton Nossik, a writer with MosNews.com, the
Russian media has been having a field day with headlines
such as "The Spammer Had It Coming," "Spam Is Deadly,"
"Ignoble Death Becomes Russia's Top Spammer," and "An
Ultimate Solution to the Spam Problem."
According to Nossik, spamming is legal in Russia, with
nothing like a Can-Spam law we have here. This lack of
regulation has bred a vigilante mentality among anti-spam
groups, who posted Vardan's personal information on the Web.
As a result of this unregulated spam use, ISPs routinely
block e-mail with RU extensions globally, resulting in
e-mail from legitimate senders in Russia being blocked and
trashed without the recipient or the sender knowing of it.
In a global business environment this could have grave
consequences for the Russian economy.
This is a good reminder when we compare that to the
situation we have here, where Can-Spam is working and
technological solutions are keeping the problem at bay. It
also highlights the dangers of vigilantism examples of which
we have reported on in past weeks.
Regulation works. Technology works. Solutions set up to
bombard Web sites with denial of service attacks, let alone
other acts of vigilantism, might work for Tony Soprano, but
shouldn't be considered for the rest of us.

The Relationship of Oral Health to Overall
Health and Longevity
by Tom McGuire, D.D.S.
PART 19 of 31
Each medium-sized amalgam filling contains about 50%
elemental mercury, or about 1,000 milligrams of
mercury. Numerous studies have proven that mercury
vapor is released from amalgam fillings. Up to 80% of
that vapor is absorbed by the lungs and passes into the
blood. From there it is transported throughout the
body, including the brain and central nervous system.
When mercury from amalgam fillings (or other heavy
metals) enter the body and accumulate faster than the
body can remove them, they will gradually build up
until early symptoms of chronic mercury poisoning are
expressed. In the filling, mercury is in its elemental
state. However, when elemental mercury is released from
the filling, bacteria can change it in the mouth and
intestine to an even more toxic (100 times as toxic)
form of organic mercury, called methyl mercury.
Toxic levels of mercury are measured in micrograms.
This is an extremely small amount. For example, one
microgram is equal to one-millionth of a gram (28.4
grams equals 1 ounce). Depending on the number of
amalgam fillings present, measurements of mercury vapor
in the mouth can range from between 20 and 400mcg/m3
(microgram of mercury per cubic meter of air) or more.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized a
time-weighted average (TWA) for occupational exposure
to mercury vapor at 25 mcg/m3. If set higher it
believes that those individuals most sensitive to
mercury toxicity are the young, the elderly, the fetus
and nursing baby.
The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry
(ATSDR) takes the most prudent and realistic approach
to mercury vapor exposure. After a lengthy study it
established a minimal risk level (MRL) of 0.2 mcg/m3 of
air. According to the agency, this is the upper limit
to which a person can be continuously exposed to
without exhibiting any observable effects. This makes
the most sense because anyone with amalgam fillings is
being exposed to varying amounts of mercury vapor 24
hours a day, 365 days a year. As you can readily see,
in many people with amalgam fillings the amount of
mercury they are being exposed to daily can exceed the
safe levels established by many regulatory agencies.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------
"That isn't right, Ted." were the thoughts he
was receiving in his mind. He looked at Tim.
"That's right," said Tim, "you are not right
in your thinking. You do important work, Ted. It
is only that up to now you have done that work to
satisfy your ego. Now you can return and do your
work with love and with a good view of the
circumstances of those you report on. Now you can
become a newsman extraordinaire because you can
now report with heart. Come, let's go home."
They touched down in the very spot from which
they left.
"Well hello you two. I imagine, Ted, that was
some trip for you?"
Ted Kuzik was silent. He had never before,
personally, witnessed such loss, such terrible
death and destruction. He really did not know how
to speak of it.
Sam knew what was going on in Ted's head. He
was watching to see what direction Ted would take.
This view of the earthquake disaster, before there
was any real relief work, showed him first hand
how people suffer. It went straight to Ted's
heart. It was a shock to his system.
Ted responded with anger. "Why do all those
people have to die? Or why do they have to live
and go through that kind of a disaster? What have
they done? Why does God do these things? Or at
least why does He let them happen?"
"Whoa! Slow down a little Ted. Think on what
you just said. What makes you think God made all
this disaster happen, or even let it happen.?"
"Well, look!"
"Ted, you are conducting your life as you were
taught. You believe there is a God in heaven
sitting on a throne someplace judging you and all
mankind. What a convenient piece of excuse-ism.
There are a few things you do not understand.
First of all, death is not bad. For the one who
dies death is beautiful. It is something to look
forward to whenever a person decides to die. Yes,
Ted each makes that decision. You may not think so
and most do not make that a conscious decision but
each soul makes the decision to die, in spite of
how vehemently you deny it. When you live by
higher law you can overcome death and take that
step if, as and when you desire. If you don't live
by higher law that decision is made by your soul,
whether you realize it or not. Man is always in
charge and always he wants to sidestep his
responsibility. Always he wants to blame someone
or something for his troubles. The next thing you
must realize is the universe functions on law. All
men are responsible for having the law work for
them or against them. It is a matter of learning
and knowing. All men pass judgment upon
themselves by virtue of law. That is what the law,
'As ye sow, so shall ye reap' is all about. You
alone, and each man alone, is responsible for what
happens to him. There is no exception to this law,
none. The sooner you learn these laws the quicker
you will see what does happen." Sam was calm,
forthright and spoke with such authority it shook
Ted's mind.
Ted knew what Sam said was right. He didn't
quite understand it but he knew it was right. He
shook his head. What he saw, what he felt and what
Sam just said didn't all reconcile within his
mind. He was confused. His anger was gone in favor
of pensive, thought provoking ideas that were
racing through his mind. He had lost the newsman
curiosity about the disaster. He was trying to put
together what Sam said about it.
"What if Sam is right? What if life does
happen by law and man does pronounce judgment upon
himself? What if we all die because we or our soul
decides it is time. These are radical ideas, but
what if they were true? I do remember reading in
the bible where Jesus said 'the last to be
overcome is death' and then we are taught nothing
more about it. Is Sam really telling me here that
there is a part of life I have not seen before
where man can have dominion over all things, that
he can overcome death, that there is no God
sitting on a throne someplace pronouncing
judgment on man, but instead the universe does
function by law and system? Is he saying that all
that happens to man is not coincidence but a
function of law that man can learn and use? I know
he is saying that man is responsible for his own
actions and the things that happen to him are a
result of his own thinking and actions. WOW!"
These were the thoughts going through Ted Kuzik's
mind.
"Yes, Ted. These are the things I have been
saying to you. When you were so ego driven you
thought you were some kind of hero. Now, when you
really take time to look, without your ego getting
in the way, you are able to see parts of life you
have never seen before. You are able to fathom
truth as Jesus gave it to you so long ago. Think
on these things, Ted. There is much more to life
than you have seen." Sam had been reading Ted's
thoughts and wanted to confirm his questioning.

HA! HA! HA!
There was an Irishman, a New Zealand man and an American man
standing on the roof of a building, with an awning below
them.
The American said to the Irishman: "I bet I could jump off
this roof, land on the awning and bounce back off." So he
jumped off, hit the awning, and was soon back on the roof.
"There. Now you try." he said to the Irishman.
So the Irishman jumped off, and fell SPLAT on the ground.
The New Zealander said to the American : "Jeez, Superman,
you are a real jerk sometimes!"
