TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------
How high does SPF go?
Is August named for a Roman emperor?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
What does the "SPF" in sunscreen mean anyway?
"SPF" stands for Sun Protection Factor. It applies only to
ultraviolet radiation. Basically, the SPF is a multiple of
how much time you can stay in the sun without burning your
skin. For instance, if you burn without any sunscreen in 10
minutes, a sunscreen with an SPF 15 would allow you to stay
in the sun for 150 minutes without burning.
What is that white stuff that life guards wear on their
noses?
It's zinc oxide or titanium oxide and it's the only sun
protector that provides COMPLETE protection. It doesn't just
absorb sunlight, it physically blocks the light. But you'd
look pretty silly smearing it all over your body.

Give Yourself A Pat On The Back!
How many hats do you wear? I was having fun the other day
just having a look at the number of chores I did in the course
of the day. I am no different that anyone else and so, I thought
I might share the list with you.
I am fortunate that I have a wonderful wife who does all the
cooking, cleaning and other household chores. So, those
items were not on my list. But a few others were.
I did secretarial work, management work, database work. I
did the work of clerks and typists and editors. I did
accounting work, collecting work, banking and bill paying. I
was an author, a strategist and an economist. Then my
grandchildren wanted a ride into town. I then became a
driver, mentor, parent and encourager.
That being done I returned home and began working again
building my shed. Some shed. It is more like a half a garage
and built the traditional way. So, I was architect and
engineer, carpenter, general contractor, electrician and
nearly the painter. I was a tinsmith, doing the roofing, a
roofer.
By that time it was getting dark and we were having company.
So, I washed up and became a host, an entertainer and
friend.
When all was said and done, my wife and I fell into bed near
three o'clock in the morning somewhat tired, and thankful we
have one another.
I have told you only the work I did. Yet I am not sure I did
as much as my wife who took on the other half of the chores
needed to get through this day. She did some typing for a
friend, cleaned the house, prepared meals for those around
her, set up for the evening and much more. The entire day
was one of accomplishment. The exhaustion felt good.
I understand this is, fortunately, not a typical day.
However, I have a daughter whose day is continually double
booked, what with all the activities her children are in.
So, I well recognize that as many hats as I wore that day
there are some folks who wear more every day.
Such is life. I write this thinking I know of no one who does
less, for those kinds of days appear once in a while. Yet
it is interesting how we manage to get through.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -

The Relationship of Oral Health to Overall
Health and Longevity
by Tom McGuire, D.D.S.
PART 20 of 31
Mercury is classified as a neurotoxin and the toxicity
of mercury is undisputed. Chronic mercury poisoning can
impair the blood and cardiovascular system. It can
cause genetic mutations and can interfere with, or
overload, the natural detoxification pathways of the
liver, kidneys, skin, and bowel. It can impair the
function of the nervous, endocrine, enzymatic,
gastrointestinal, reproductive, and urinary systems. It
can increase allergic reactions and act as a harmful
antibiotic, killing both good and harmful bacteria in
the gut. Mercury can also cause a great deal of tissue
damage by creating an abundance of free radicals,
suspected to be one of the underlying causes of all
degenerative diseases.
One study indicated that mercury can interfere with
leukocytes. It also showed how it could not only
compromise the bodys natural defenses, but also
promote tissue injury via the local production of
oxygen free radicals. Another study demonstrated that
mercury can inactivate neutrophils. These important
immune system components are responsible for killing
fungi inside the body (blood and soft tissue). Mercury
toxicity was also shown to inhibit their ability to
kill Candida.
But mercury can also have devastating secondary effects
on the body by depleting it of the important
antioxidants the body needs to not only remove mercury
and other heavy metals, but to fight free radicals and
other toxins. This happens because each atom of mercury
that is removed from the body requires an escort of 1
to 2 molecules of glutathione (the bodys most abundant
and important antioxidant for removing mercury and
other heavy metals). As you can see, over time, more
and more glutathione is lost, creating a deficiency of
it and an increase in mercury being stored in the body.
This indirect, or secondary, effect of mercury is
devastating to the immune system and can seriously
reduce the bodys ability to deal with other diseases.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

I have had these discussions and arguments
with church leaders. They argue all the same, and
they carry themselves with the same old arrogant
attitude. When pushed into a corner they adopt a
haughty attitude that tries to make you feel
guilty for even having questioned them. After all
they have studied for years in universities and
they are "God's authority on earth", Ted was
thinking. I have spoken with many church leaders
from all faiths and sooner or later when you get
to asking questions they can't answer this is the
way they handle it. They all say the bible is the
final authority, yet when asked questions about
what Jesus said, they cannot answer for they truly
know not what he meant. Worse, they feel you are
questioning them personally and they take a
defensive posture. Because of the response being
the same from each one I have spoken with I think
they are taught how to act this way when they are
in the position of facing an inquisitive
parishioner who is seeking answers.
Ted was going deep now. His mind was on an
insatiable path in search of answers. The
earthquake plus Sam Henry had started something.
He knew that whenever he had spoken with
church leaders about the Sermon on the Mount, part
of which is Matthew 6: 19 - 31, he was told that
Jesus was speaking to a "special" group of people,
the inference clearly being that somehow the
ordinary fisherman suddenly became extraordinary
and so, too, for the loathed tax collector. The
problem with that theory is this God would
have had to create different classes of man, some
of which were "special" and given "special"
privileges. Yet elsewhere in that same bible it is
said that we are all created equal.
Ted was having a hard time with the notion
that anyone was more "special" than any other. His
problem was that was entirely inconsistent with
the rest of the way the world worked. It was
inconsistent with other parts of the scriptures
and completely inconsistent with life. He had no
trouble believing that if there was a God, the
kind the churches said there was, then certainly
He would have the ability to create "special" men,
but that was not His pattern, neither did He keep
it up. This concept broke with the pattern and
rhythm shown in the universe around Ted and he did
not accept the church leaders opinion.
That, of course, was another problem. The
church leaders did not think they had "opinions"
on such things. They were the authority and what
they said was absolute and fact. This was not to
be questioned. They had gone to many years of
study to learn this truth and there was to be no
varying from it. That was another inconsistency
Ted had to reconcile. If these people were the
authority, then why did they only have part
knowledge and not be able to answer his questions?
Further, and this is the folly of man in its
completeness, these people went to learn and study
these topics from other men who learned it from
other men, who learned it from other men. If these
same men were to speak of this kind of thing in
other cultures they would describe it as folklore,
yet not so when it actually involves themselves.
Ted's mind was racing. He was becoming
suddenly aware he had been mislead, all his life,
in order to keep him in the group. This was the
plan of all churches in order to sustain their
position in society. It did not matter whether
they taught truth. It only mattered that they held
the group together so they could further their own
control and position. Whenever a leader ran across
someone who really questioned, they were shown how
to ostracize that person, cull him out so to
speak, and keep control of the group.
Ted knew that to this very day that is the
practice within all churches and religions. He
also knew that is how politics worked, how street
gangs worked and how any organized group of man
worked.
He was becoming angry all over again. He
realized how he had been manipulated, used, and
when he began to question, then he was cast aside
in favor of someone else from whom these groups
could extract money. Ted's eyes were becoming
opened.
"Sam, why are there so few that question?"
"Ted, man is firstly concerned with eeking out
a living for himself and his family. He is early
taught that he must follow his religion or he will
be ostracized even from his own family. He is
taught this is the way, worse, the only way. So,
completely trusting, the child follows. Within a
short time that child is molded to the groups
pattern and he follows all his life. He well knows
that if he questions then it will mean work. And
it will mean that he has to begin to take
responsibility for his own life and actions. If he
stays with the group then he can blame his
circumstances on his God, for it must be God's
wish for his life. He thinks like you did earlier
when you questioned why did God cause this
disaster to happen. Why don't you tell me why it
should not have happened."

OBSERVATIONS OF OUR BUSINESS
Many of you have become interested in following what
we are doing in our business.
It is a way of seeing some of the good things and not so good
things that happen to us along the way.
While it may not replicate your story, neither may it be replicated
by you, it does keep you updated on some of the trials and
tribulations of doing business on the internet.
We thought we would keep it up.

TODAY'S REPORT:
Every Thursday I have a meeting with a local businessman.
We sit, sip tea, and talk about his life, or mine. We share ideas
about business, life, spirituality. It is fascinating how ideas come
up and we are able to solve problems or overcome challenges.
It is a Mastermind meeting where the pair of us have no personal
stake in each other's business and therefore are able to genuinely
help one another. I find it thrilling, as does he.
I thought I might share this with you in order to encourage you
to seek out and find such a friend yourself. It adds a whole new
dimension to your life.
Have a great weekend folks!

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HA! HA! HA!
Two smart fellows were in an English pub. They called the
publican over and asked him to settle an argument.
'Are there two pints in a quart or four?", asked one.
"There be two pints in a quart, confirmed the publican.
They moved back along the bar and soon the barmaid asked for
their order.
"Two pints please, miss, and they are on the house."
The barmaid doubted that her boss would be so generous so
one of the fellows called out to the publican at the other
end of the bar, "You did say two pints, didn't you?"
"That's right, he called back, two pints."
