TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

Is it true that August stole a day from February?

Were there any other months named for Roman emperors?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

How high does SPF go?

You can get sunscreens with SPF numbers as high as 50, but
don't bother. While SPF 30 isn't FULL protection (it
protects you from about 96 percent of the sun's ultraviolet
rays), sunscreens with SPF numbers higher than 30 don't
really provide significantly more protection.

Is August named for a Roman emperor?

Yes, August is named for Emperor Augustus Caesar. He wasn't
the first emperor to have a month named after him. His
great-uncle, Julius Caesar, had the month of July named for
him. Julius started the trend by reforming the calendar,
which badly needed reforming. Thanks to miscalculations and
arbitrary regulation, the months were beginning to drift
into the wrong seasons. January, for instance, had begun to
fall in autumn. The Roman Senate chose to name a month after
Julius to thank him for instituting the Julian calendar.
Later, the Senate also decided to honor Augustus for
defeating Marc Antony and Cleopatra and bringing Egypt under
Roman authority.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
------------------------------------

We Color Truth!

A father is working on some assorted chore and his VERY
young daughter walks in, stops and this is what he hears:
"Daddy, what is sex?"

Caught off guard, and shaken at his innocent little girl
asking such a question (especially as he's trying to
concentrate on his chore), he starts babbling about "the
birds and the bees" and then looks at her bewildered
expression. He decides to tell her about human
reproduction, but just gets more and more self-conscious and
embarrassed.

Finally he stops in mid sentence and asks her, "Why do you
ask?"

Shaking her head a little, she answers, "Well Mom just said
to tell you dinner would be ready in a couple of secs."

The joke above points out a weakness we all have and
sometimes it can be rather devastating.

We get so busy we forget to pay real attention, from time to
time. And so we answer our spouse, or a co-worker simply by
saying yes or no, or even by a grunt.

Boy, that can be dangerous. How many times in your life have
you awakened to the realization you were so engrossed in
your own project that you did not properly hear or see what
was going on around you, only to find you should have.

If you are alive the situation described is inevitable. In a
marriage they term it "taking one another for granted". At
work it is just a big mistake. It is at home, too, but they
call it different.

The little girl above was inquiring about one thing and,
being engrossed, the father was replying to what he thought
he heard. It can happen, too, with what you see.

Pre-occupation that removes you from truly seeing what is
happening around you is also the greatest cause of vehicle
accidents. And with many other maladies and accidents that
happen in other areas of our lives.

In business it proves a costly mistake and many a time heads
have rolled because of a mistake that could easily have been
avoided.

Keep your wits about you at all times and in all places. It
can not only be a life saver but a time, effort and money
saver.

The Relationship of Oral Health to Overall
Health and Longevity
by Tom McGuire, D.D.S.
PART 21 of 31

Yet, not everyone with amalgam fillings shows signs or
has obvious symptoms of mercury toxicity. Mostly, this
is related to the number of fillings, the length of
time the fillings have been in the mouth, the health of
the individual, and the body’s ability to naturally rid
itself of mercury. I believe that if you now have—even
if you haven’t yet shown any symptoms of chronic
mercury poisoning—the chances are very good that more
and more mercury is being stored in your body. There is
no doubt in my mind that chronic mercury poisoning can
be the most important oral health issue to consider
when treating any health problem. Of course, there are
hundreds of millions of people who have both mercury
amalgam fillings and gum disease; the combination of
which could dramatically weaken the body’s ability to
deal effectively deal with all other health issues.

Sources There are many sources of mercury exposure,
including food (mostly mercury contaminated fish), air,
water, cosmetics, medications, and industrial
occupations. However, according to the World Health
Organization, the single biggest contributor of mercury
to the body is amalgam fillings.

Symptoms A wide variety of symptoms are related to
mercury toxicity. Because mercury can be stored in
virtually every cell, organ, and tissue (particularly
the brain, kidneys, and central nervous system) of the
body, its range of symptoms are vast. Of course, other
health issues could contribute to these symptoms, or
even cause them; clearly, no single symptom is specific
to mercury poisoning. But it is also important to
realize that mercury related symptoms are directly
proportionate to the number of fillings you have and
the length of time they have been in the teeth.
Although this is a long list, I feel it important to
include it here. You can use this as a checklist (see
Figure 1) when determining whether or not you may have
mercury related symptoms. (The symptoms listed are
those commonly related to the direct effects of chronic
mercury poisoning. Because of its secondary effects
this list could be much longer.)

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.
It will change your life. Go to

"Sam, I don't understand."

"Ted, the earth is a living breathing thing.
It, like people, and all else in it, changes.
There are people in this country who know full
well the Mississippi river floods. Yet they build
right to its banks and when flood comes and wipes
them out they sit back and ask why did God let
this happen. There are people today who knowingly
live in areas of known earthquake risk. When such
a quake happens and thousands are killed what do
you think the outcry will be?"

"You mean these people all knew they were
living in a dangerous area?"

"No, Ted. I mean all of the earth changes from
time to time. I am saying that each soul of the
people living there knew what was going to happen.
Each person was there for a reason that served his
or her growth toward truth and knowledge. Nothing
happens by coincidence. All happens for a reason
and, Ted, all happens for the good of man. All
that is necessary is for man to see."

"Wow! You're going to open up a can of worms
with that statement. Are you saying that all the
atrocities that have occurred in this world have a
purpose and a benefit for every person involved?"

"Yes."

"Don't you think you will create some angry
people with that idea?"

"Truth is no seeker of favors, Ted. If you
touch a hot object and get burned the truth is you
are the one responsible. You are the one who
touched it. Whether you like that truth or not has
no bearing on the truth of it. If you think I am
faulting the churches unfairly, or if you think I
am faulting religions unfairly why don't you do
yourself a favor. Go to a church bookstore and buy
a King James version of the bible. Read the Sermon
on the Mount, or better yet read the book of
Matthew, for that matter, any of the books in the
bible. While you are at the same bookstore
purchase a "new translation" of the bible and
have a look at how that same book of Matthew
reads. What you will discover is how they change
things to suit their purposes. The same will be
true when you compare any of the books in those
two editions of the bible. Then, who is to say the
King James version is the only authority? What
about earlier writings, and what was lost in
translation from one language to another? So why
then would they teach you about Jesus, but fail to
do what Jesus said to do?"

"I think it comes back to control of the
group."

"Now you are thinking. The church is a
business. Every church is a business. Every
religion has as its true purpose the control of
the group. They disguise it as a service to the
group and in that they expect the group to support
it. They will make you feel guilty if you do not
and in some religions they will not only ostracize
you for thinking different, they will kill you.
Does that sound like they are following a loving
God or are under a loving God's direction?"

"It doesn't much sound like it does it? Why
don't people think on these things?"

"We already discussed that. It calls for work,
means one will have to be responsible, and sets up
a scene where he/she may be banned out of the
group. There are very few people, Ted, who can
stand on their own. Their egos need feeding and
that can only happen in a group. It is socially
unacceptable to be a "Jonathon" as in Richard
Bach's book Jonathon Livingston Seagull."

"But man is following along, like a bunch of
lemmings, to his own destruction. This is
preposterous."

"Sure it is Ted. Now, let's put some meat into
it. You have discovered a condition of mankind of
which you are a part. You are now speaking as if
you think that condition is wrong. Are you saying
it is wrong for man or are you saying it is wrong
for you? What are you going to do about your life?
What are you going to do with the information you
have just discovered? Are you going to roll over
and pretend you didn't see it? Or are you going to
take steps in your life to accommodate your new
knowledge?"

"Explain some, Sam."

"You aren't going to go out and change the
whole world. The rest of the seagulls on the beach
will make sure you are not only not welcome, but
they will ensure you lose your job. So you aren't
going on air with this information. However, what
are you going to do about changing yourself and
the things you do, now that you have this
information?"

"Sam Henry, thats the one thing I can always
count on from you. You always shoot directly at
the target and leave no room for maneuvering. I am
going to have to think on these matters, Sam. I
just got these ideas. Now I have to make a
decision about what I will do with the rest of my
life. You really just took the complete foundation
out from under me."

HA! HA! HA!

It was a Saturday afternoon, and Ray had rushed down to the
local supermarket to hurriedly pick up some hamburger rolls,
chips and a few condiments. The big college game was going
to be on, so he was having a few friends over to watch it.

The store was loaded with shoppers and as he headed for the
six item express lane, the only one that didn't have a long
line, a woman completely ignoring the overhead sign slipped
into the check-out line just in front of him pushing a cart
piled high with groceries.

Ray was quietly fuming at the anticipated delay. But the
elderly cashier beckoned the woman to come forward, looked
into the cart and asked ever so sweetly, "So Dearie, which
six items would you like to buy?"
