TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

Do we still use the Julian calendar?

Is it true that they've invented a type of concrete you can
see through?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Is it true that August stole a day from February?

Yes. Under the Julian calendar, February had 29 days and the
other months alternated evenly between 30 and 31 days.
Because July had 31 days, the month following it was
supposed to have 30 days. But that was the month that
Augustus had brought Egypt under control and entered the
city in triumph, and he had to have it. He couldn't, of
course, be duly honored with a LESSER month, one with fewer
days. So to make his month as long as Julius' month, they
had to steal a day from February (making it just 28) and add
it to August (making it 31). (They also messed with
September and the remaining months, in order to avoid three
months in a row with 31 days.)

Were there any other months named for Roman emperors?

Not any that we still have. For a time, May was changed to
"Claudius," and April was "Neronius" (for Nero). But those
changes didn't last. Only July and August had staying power.

Study: Majority Of Youth Surf At School, Eight In Ten
Students Using Web

SEVENTY-EIGHT PERCENT OF ONLINE 12- to-17-year-olds have
used the Internet at school--a 45 percent increase from
2000, when just 47 percent of youngsters between the ages 12
and 17 went online at school, according to findings of a new
report released this week by the Pew Internet & American
Life Project. What do teens do online? About six out of
10--57 percent--research colleges or other schools, with 61
percent of girls doing so, compared to 53 percent of boys.

---------

A THIRD SCREEN FALLS INTO SECOND PLACE --

Imagine having the world of mobile media literally in the
palm of your hand only to lose your grasp just as the market
is poised to take off. That seems to be exactly what's
happened to handheld computer marketer Palm, the pioneer in
the field of so-called personal data assistants, according
to the latest stats from the palm readers at Gartner Inc.
Apparently, Palm's love line isn't as long as analysts had
previously thought. And, at its current rate of market share
erosion, its life line may not be all that long either. In
the last year alone, Palm's share has fallen from a third of
all handheld shipments to just under 18 percent, according
to Gartner. What's really striking about Palm's erosion is
that it's occurring as the PDA market's growth accelerates.
In the second quarter of 2005, 3.6 million PDAs were
shipped, a 32 percent increase over the second quarter of
2004. In fact, Gartner projects hand-held marketers will
ship more than 15 million units by the end of the year.

The biggest share of that market will go to Research In
Motion (RIM), marketers of the infamous crack... er,
BlackBerry device, which will account for more than a 23
percent share of 2005 hand-held shipments, surpassing Palm
for the first time since Gartner began tracking the market.
Hewlett-Packard, Nokia, and T-Mobile make up the rest of the
market, followed by a number of other smaller players.

"Wireless PDAs are increasingly seen as an adjunct or
alternative to notebook computers," note Gartner's principle
palmist Todd Kort.

Not surprisingly, the shift in market share among PDA
manufacturers also has some big implications for computer
operating systems. As Palm's hardware shipments erode, the
mass of its proprietary operating system will erode as well.
And while RIM has become the dominant hardware supplier,
it's actually an also-ran in the operating system market.
The big winner is -- yeah, you guessed it - Microsoft. The
leader in desktop and laptop computing is now also the
leader in the hand-held market, according to Gartner,
accounting for nearly 46 percent of PDA operating systems
sold in 2005.

The Relationship of Oral Health to Overall
Health and Longevity
by Tom McGuire, D.D.S.
PART 22 of 31

Amalgam Controversy The controversy about dental
amalgams that you may have heard about has absolutely
nothing to do with the toxicity of mercury; rather, it
is about whether or not mercury is released from an
amalgam filling in quantities great enough to cause
health problems. It is scientifically known that any
amount of mercury in the body will cause harm and the
more that is present the more harm will be caused. We
also know without a doubt that mercury is released from
amalgam fillings. In spite of that fact, the ADA
continues to say that no one with these fillings need
worry because not enough is released to cause any
health problems; except those who are allergic to
mercury.

They are as wrong today as they were 150 years ago. In
a majority of those with amalgam fillings, it is
impossible for the body to remove all of the mercury it
is exposed to from them and other sources of mercury.
That which cannot be removed accumulates in the body
and over time it can cause innumerable health problems
to tens of millions of people. This booklet does not
allow me the space to explain the many variables that
play a role in determining the numerous long-term
effects of the mercury released from amalgam fillings.
But it should provide enough information for you to
acknowledge that mercury could be a major factor in
nearly every health problem we know of. If you would
like to explore this subject in more detail, I suggest
you read A Mouth Full of Poison: The Truth about
Mercury Amalgam Fillings and Your Complete Guide to
Mercury Detoxification: How to Safely Remove Mercury
from Your Teeth and Body. These books are available at
www.dentalwellness4u.com.

Galvanic Effect of Dental Fillings Dental fillings have
also been shown to exert a galvanic effect in the mouth
when two dissimilar fillings (i.e., gold and amalgam
fillings) are present. This battery-like effect has
been shown to corrode to the less noble filling
material, notably amalgams. As the other metal
components of amalgam are pulled out of the filling,
mercury vapor can be released. The severity of this
action depends on the number of fillings present and
their relationship to each other.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

"That sounds good, Ted. I'm glad. You are
going to be walking a rocky road for a while. Call
if you need any answers. I will work with you, if
you so wish."

"How can you say that and do that, Sam. I was
once your sworn enemy."

"You were never my enemy, Ted. You were a lost
sheep who did not fully understand what you were
doing. You were out to satisfy your ego, rather
than see and report on truth. Your reporting from
this day will be much more meaningful than ever
before because now you know why man does what he
does. You have had insights that are rare for
people. You will use it for the welfare of people
and that will make you a good reporter."

"But Sam, what about everyone else?"

"Ted, anyone who knows this information can
understand the actions of most men are based on
ignorance and greed. Those with wisdom will
understand and react with love, patience,
kindness. Even if one has made the decision not to
live by higher law, they can change so they give
out love and understanding. They can know why man
goes to church and can treat those kindly anyway.
The one true thing that comes through this
message, Ted, is that love will gain more
cooperation than hate. Love, kindness,
understanding, wisdom, patience are all things
that will bring about good things for man. If a
man practices those things he will make a huge
mark in the society around him."

"I guess you're right Sam. I can do that at
least."

"Good. Seems to me you got more than you
bargained for today, Mr. Kuzik."

"Wow, you got that right. Every interchange I
have with you Henrys leads me to more knowledge.
Sometimes you do it by talking and other times you
do it by action. I am very thankful you are a wise
man, Sam. I thank you for all you and your family
have done for me."

"You are welcome, Ted. One thing I want to
point out. You questioned whether such a thing as
an earthquake, having created so much death and
destruction, could ever bring any good out of it?
Has it brought any good unto you, Ted?"

"My God, Sam. I never thought about that.
You're right. It not only will serve those who are
left but it has reached all the way over here and
touched me. And in my work I will touch others."
Ted sat down. The concept of how we are all an
interwoven, inseparable part of the whole, just
hit him.

Sam came over to him and spoke softly, "Ted,
you, like every other man, has been thinking you
are separate from each other and from your God. It
is only in your thinking that you are separated,
not in truth. No man can take any action without
it affecting all other men, somehow. We are all
part of the whole and each movement within the
whole affects all parts. It might be a good thing
for you to pretend you are 'God' and you are far
out in space looking upon earth and watching the
affairs of man. Each trouble spot is as if it is a
cancer within your own body. It must be dealt
with as such. Do you know that in the area where
this earthquake happened there was terrorist
activity brewing? Did you know that the unrest and
the thoughts that were going on in that place
would have created untold thousands of deaths,
even more than what happened with the earthquake?
Are you now aware that problem is no more, that it
has been cleansed, made perfect?"

This was more than Ted could take. "Slow down,
Sam. I have had enough for today. I can't absorb
it all in one sitting. Are you now telling me that
men's thoughts can somehow trigger actions within
the earth itself?"

"Ted the earth and all that is in it is made
up of the same stuff. All is firstly a spiritual
matrix surrounded by gross material. Thoughts and
ideas alter, move, change, affect the spiritual
balance of all around them. The law 'As ye sow, so
shall ye reap' has far more wide reaching
implications than man realizes. Go home, Ted.
Think on these things."

Ted rose, said his good byes and left. He had
enough for one day. Sam Henry had hit him with a
lot of heavy stuff. He had to think.

"Well, folks, I guess we'll be off." Tim and
Sharon had been privy to the conversation as had
Bob and Harriett. While they did not participate,
they had all listened.

"Oh, do you have to go so soon?" Harriett was
wanting the kids to stay.

"We'll be back, Mom. Give us a chance to be by
ourselves for a bit." Sharon spoke kindly and
lovingly.

After the kids left there was only Bob,
Harriett, Sam, Alewka and Mildred.

New Diet Rules

If you eat something and no one sees you eat it, it has no
calories. Zero, zip, nada, zilch!

If you drink a diet soda with a candy bar, the calories in
the candy bar are canceled out by the diet soda.

When you eat with someone else, calories don't count if you
don't eat more than they do.

Food used for medicinal purposes NEVER counts, such as hot
chocolate, brandy, toast and Sara Lee Cheesecake.

If you fatten up everyone else around you, then you look
thinner.

Movie related foods (Milk Duds, Buttered Popcorn, Junior
Mints, Red Hots, Tootsie Rolls, etc.) do not have additional
calories because they are part of the entertainment package
and not part of one's personal fuel.

Cookie pieces contain no fat -- the process of breaking
causes fat leakage.

Things licked off knives and spoons have no calories if you
are in the process of preparing something. Examples are
peanut butter on a knife making a sandwich and ice cream on
a spoon making a sundae.

Foods that have the same color have the same number of
calories. Examples are: spinach and pistachio ice cream;
mushrooms and white chocolate. NOTE: Chocolate is a
universal color and may be substituted for any other food
color.
