TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

Where in the world has myopia reached epidemic proportions?
What is the "arsenic hour"?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Do fingernails contain DNA?
Fingernails do not contain cells, and thus do not yield DNA.
A hair WITHOUT a hair follicle attached is also acellular
(without cells).
Is it true that reading causes nearsightedness?
New research does indeed suggest that the large increase in
myopia (nearsightedness) is due to how kids spend their
time. Kids who spend large amounts of time focusing on
nearby objects, like books, computer screens, and
television, are much more likely to be myopic. This doesn't
mean that genetics is not a major factor as well, though.
Kids who spend more time outdoors, playing sports, are less
likely to be myopic.
How could reading or watching television cause myopia?
The theory is that the more time spent focusing on close
objects actually causes the eyeball to grow longer to make
looking at close objects easier. But then the eye has
difficulty focusing on far-away objects.

Here's To Think On ...

------------------------------------
Some Take All!
As a butcher is shooing a dog from his shop, he sees $10 and
a note in his mouth, reading: "10 lamb chops, please."
Amazed, he takes the money, puts a bag of chops in the dog's
mouth, and quickly closes the shop. He follows the dog and
watches him wait for a green light, look both ways, and trot
across the road to a bus stop. The dog checks the timetable
and sits on the bench. When a bus arrives, he walks around
to the front and looks at the number, then boards the bus.
The butcher follows, dumbstruck.
As the bus travels out into the suburbs, the dog takes in
the scenery. After awhile he stands on his back paws to push
the "stop" button, then the butcher follows him off.
The dog runs up to a house and drops his bag on the stoop.
He goes back down the path, takes a big run, and throws
himself -Whap!- against the door. He does this again and
again. No answer. So he jumps on a wall, walks around the
garden, beats his head against a window, jumps off, and
waits at the front door. A big guy opens it and starts
cursing and pummeling the dog.
The butcher runs up screams at the guy: "What are you doing?
This dog's a genius!"
The owner responds, "Genius? It's the second time this week
he's forgotten his key!"
There is a difference between healthy dissatisfaction with
ones position, and working toward improving it, and the
downright completely selfish attitude of taking from
everybody every time you get a chance.
While the joke above may be humorous it reveals a character
trait that is truly disgusting. A person like the one in the
joke is a taker. That is to say they contribute nothing and
take all they can get whether they have earned it or not.
This kind of character falls very close to the
untrustworthy. They will take from those closest to them and
the thought of giving never enters their mind, even to their
loved ones. The loved ones, in the mind of the taker, exist
to serve them, not share with them.
It is one of life's mysteries. It is apparent this kind of
individual has a long way to go before they have peace.
Peace of mind lies in using the higher laws for the benefit
of all mankind, not just one. The taker suffers much and
understands not the reason.
We must all be thankful we have the right to make a choice
as to how we are going to live our lives.
The taker is to be pitied. Oh. they may ultimately have a
lot of toys, or money. Yet what good is that when you are
spurned by mankind and miserable within your own heart?
The laws of God are clear. As ye sow, so shall ye reap. If
all you do is take, you might want to consider what will be
taken from you. If you take to the detriment of another then
woe is you for the result of the law will be harsh.
Some say God passes judgment. I say God set up the law and
you pass judgment by your use thereof. Act in full knowledge
of the law. Act the way you want the law to deliver unto
you.
Be a giver and live in love, peace and prosperity, yet,
wisely consider that ...

The Relationship of Oral Health to Overall

PART 27 of 31
I will take Menieres Syndrome/Disease as an example.
There are a number of symptoms that, when taken
together, comprise Menieres syndrome. But not only are
we not sure what caused the disease, we are just as
uncertain about what triggers the symptoms associated
with Menieres. Thus, there could be a genetic cause
that predisposes this condition and other factors that
are involved in the triggering of symptoms. We just
dont know. But what I suggest be considered is that
stress, in whatever form, could easily trigger the
various symptoms.
We know that stress takes many forms. We know that
emotional, psychological and physical stress can lower
the bodys resistance to disease. In short, stress
makes us more vulnerable to disease. Well, the reverse
is also true and all disease causes stress; some more
than others but all stress the body. It would seem
logical to assume that anyone with Menieres, or any
other idiopathic disease, would want to do everything
possible to eliminate every form of stress. This may be
easier said than done but I believe every effort must
be made if you want to reduce or eliminate any
potential triggering effect.
It is not in my area of expertise to tell you how to
deal with other avenues of stress in your life but I
will encourage you to make your best effort to
eliminate all oral health issues. The first step
includes a complete oral health evaluation. You must
know what is wrong before you can effective treat it.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

Tom immediately created a shield of protection
around them that prevented any further bumping,
jostling and hitting.
Within seconds they were alone with the little
boy. Tom looked at Tlang. In that instant the pair
of them vanished to human eyes and reappeared well
inside the aid station, at the place where the
little fellow's parents were laying. Once more
there was excitement and happiness for that
family.
Tom and Tlang left that family and went back
to the quake zone. There they met a few of the
workers they knew. Some had taken a brief respite
just to sit back and analyze what had to happen
next. They found Mae, Susan and Sonora.
"How are you two making out?" Susan asked.
"We have been busy. How are things looking?"
"There is much to do, Tom. Yet I think we now
have everyone out of immediate danger, in this
area. Some of our people stretch the length and
breadth of the quake, so I imagine we have all the
folks we can out of danger. Some of our people
headed up the search for food, clothing and
firewood."
This conversation took place on the third day
after they arrived. They had all been working day
and night to save, release and aid those in need.
The quake was so vast that many of the folks at
the wedding did not see one another since
arriving.
Those gathering food, clothing and fire
materials worked equally as hard. Even in this hot
climate there was need of fire and warmth. Fear,
injury, mental stunning, all needed warmth from a
fire. It also provided a focus other than what had
just happened. Many nights of fire would bring
people around.
The hunt for clothing wasn't going well. The
search for firewood and food was going much
better. The jungle in this area gave off much wood
and a lot of food so the gatherers were able to
bring in all that was needed, although it was a
massive effort involving thousands up and down the
quake.
Clothing was not needed so much for clothing
as it was for bandages and wraps. The people whose
houses survived were freely offering whatever they
could. Only one or two hoarded. That was to be
expected from people who felt their worth was
measured in material goods. Yet, for the most part
the people were generous, and that was a big help.
It was four or five days before there was more
clothing and bedding than was needed.
Government help began to flow into the quake
area about five days after it happened. The first
thing that was noticed was an "officiality" to
the organization they wanted. They failed to look
and see the people had organized themselves,
albeit loosely. There was the sudden issuing of
orders, moving people here and moving them there,
all having no real affect other than giving
government workers some feeling of authority over
the quake victims. Without a specific plan they
came in and created more confusion than help. They
acted as if they were saviors to the people and
with that attitude created many an enemy. It could
be said the only real thing of benefit they
brought for the people was vehicles.
It wasn't long before some of the more
militant of the government aid workers were
setting up their own little "kingdoms". Maz, Tim,
Hemno and Romano soon took care of that. They
merely confused the perpetrators, sending them
here and there with no effect and no one to "boss"
around. For those of genuine intent they offered
help and soon the ones with poor attitudes were
found wanting. They were seen to be useless. They
found themselves embarrassed and angrily went
away.
As of yet the government was providing no
supplies. This, on the fifth day of the disaster,
the people were yet on their own. They succumbed
to the movement and "reorganization" only because
they were stunned and they were used to authority.
Those that lived by higher law protected the
people from the government as well as from disease
and other harm. When outside relief began to
appear in earnest there was plenty of food water
and blankets. Medical aid appeared with medical
practitioners. It was soon seen outside aid was
available all up and down the quake area.
With that being the case those who lived by
higher law were no longer needed. They had taken
care of the worst and helped out when there was no
outside help. They had seen to it there were no
further deaths and they had been all heavily
involved in reuniting families. Yet it was time to
leave. Aid that was pouring in would take care of
the rest.

"What's he look like?" asks one shoddy-looking cowboy.
"Well", replies the Sheriff, "he wears a brown paper hat, a

boots, brown paper pants, and a brown paper jacket."
"So what's he wanted for?" asks the same cowboy.
"Rustlin'."
