ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Is a wombat a type of bat?
Despite its name, a wombat is NOT a bat. It's a cute furry
creature from Australia belonging to the marsupial family
(the same family kangaroos, koala bears, and opossums belong
to).
Is it true that the Shakers got their name from the wild
shaking they engaged in?
Yes. The early Shakers tended to become excited during their
meetings in England during the mid-1700's. In fits of
ecstasy, worshippers would whirl and shake, "shaking" off
sins. Onlookers called them "Shaking Quakers," or "Shakers."
The name was not meant to be flattering, but eventually the
Shakers adopted it as their own. The full name of the
Shakers order, though, is the United Society of Believers in
Christ's Second Appearing.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
------------------------------------
Oh! How We Affect Others!
A plane was taking off from Kennedy Airport. After it
reached a comfortable cruising altitude, the captain made an
announcement over the intercom,
"Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking.
Welcome to Flight 293, nonstop from New York to Los Angeles.
The weather ahead is good and therefore we should have a
smooth and uneventful flight. Now, please sit back and relax
- OH MY GOD!"
Silence.
Then, the captain came back on the intercom and said,
"Ladies and Gentlemen, I am so sorry if I scared you
earlier, but while I was talking, the flight-attendant
brought me a cup of coffee and spilled the hot coffee in my
lap. You should see the front of my pants!"
A passenger in Coach piped up, "That's nothing. You should
see the back of mine!"
Wow! I'm glad I wasn't on that plane.
Jokes, of course, come out of tales of life, and this one
brings with it the point, or the question, "Do we know how
much we affect others?"
Of course, I am aware all of us are deep down aware, but I
wander how many of us have a real appreciation of how our
words, behavior and thinking affect others.
A child will mimic Mom and Dad to the least little movement.
But do you know that they mimic Grandma and Grandpa, too, or
a teacher, older brother or a friend brought home for
supper?
Are you really aware that your actions are being observed by
others to their betterment or detriment?
I have watched a family for some years now. The wife comes
from a family of negative thinkers. The parents, each,
developed disease brought on by the stress of that kind of
thinking. One brother died while young because of stress
related lifestyle. The wife married a guy who is always up.
Sometimes it even seems phony, or so it sounds to those who
dare to ask him how he is. Yet, it is a truth, he is always
up, always happy, always willing to share that. The wife
calls him the eternal optimist. Her lifestyle is not near as
stressful as her brothers, unless she works at it, which she
does, once in a while.
And, so, her husbands bountiful happiness and positive
approach to things has materially affected her life. He
didn't do it for her. That is just the way he is. He has
that affect on others too.
A child can be led into positive lifestyle or negative
lifestyle simply by watching others. They can justify
unhealthy habits because someone they respect has made it
easy for them by having the habit themselves. Sometimes you
don't even have to be around much. Sometimes you need only
have a position and have the rest of the world talking about
you.
Hero worship makes your actions significant to others. You
may not be a hero, but to some eyes you are held in that
regard.
And so, we need remind ourselves - - -

Q and A about Possible Pregnancy
Question:
I have recently had a lot of anxiety about possibly being
pregnant, but most likely through talking to people about it
and my knowledge of how you get pregnant I don't think I am.
I did use a condom and I didn't fully have sex, it was
attempted, but it hurt to much so we stopped. And then we
tried without a condom, but we never actually did have sex
and he never came during this. The only time he came was
when he had the condom on. But I have recently experienced
frequent urination and I have read that it's a sign of
pregnancy but only in the first 6-8 weeks, and this was
barely 2 weeks ago. So what else could my frequent urination
be ? I am really just hoping I'm not pregnant.
My response:
Here is one website you should spend some time in.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/reproductivehealthgeneral
.html It is not my place to "preach" you but does your email
address reflect your lifestyle? If so, you could be in for
major health problems. And if you ever want healthy normal
children, you might want to pay attention to using your body
with more respect. You are a woman, and are worthy of
treating your "self" with values, respect, and love. Don't
allow anyone to control you or force you to have sex just
because they say you should.... ESPECIALLY ORAL SEX!!!! Your
male friend most likely won't be carrying the diseases in
his body, but you will. You are allowed to say NO! I trust
you have already done the pregnancy test, right? I have sent
you to one of the safest and best links. Use sources like
this and not people who know only as much as you do. Your
pharmacist is a safe and knowledgeable person. Smart gal for
using a condom!! When you have any type of pain, it that is
your body telling you something is VERY wrong...so what
could it be? Wrong condom, insufficient amount of
spermacidal cream.you could have a latex allergy. Talk with
your pharmacist. You could call and then they wouldn't know
who you are, but health nurses could help as well. It's
their job to help. A quick lesson in fertilization...the
male sperm has to connect with the egg (ovum) somewhere in
the vagina near the cervix, which is at the inside end of
the vagina. Then the fertilized egg will find its way back
into the uterus and attach to the inside uterus wall and
grow (pregnancy). The important part here is to keep the
contents of the condom (sperm) with the spermicide (chemical
cream) so it can kill the sperm. You can't just whip off the
condom and continue. These sperm are very anxious to
fertilize an egg, and will take ages to die. Sometimes
frequent urination (frequency) can be a sign of either
urinary tract infection or PID Pelvic Inflammatory Disease.
Get it checked out. If you leave untreated, it can even lead
to possibly of you not being able to have babies later on. I
somehow doubt you are pregnant, but do the testing, and for
goodness sake, take this as a warning to learn what to do to
protect yourself! No one, I PROMISE YOU, will ever care
about you if you don't care enough about yourself! I don't
know how old you are, but I am hearing about grade school
girls doing oral sex on guys to keep a friendship or do a
"favor" out of fear! There are many nice guys who would
NEVER ask you to do that, but I go back to your email
address. If this is really you and you CHOOSE to be this
way, then be prepared for a rough time ahead. You are a
woman and as such I respect you and hope you will find a
real purpose to give your love to.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

They had now worked their way to the beach and
were sitting on the grassy knoll that preceded the
sand, looking out over the kids ball game to the
river and the beauty beyond.
Sam took her hand. "Are you sorry we made that
decision?"
"Oh, no, Sam. I was just remembering all the
things that have happened to us since. It has been
an incredible life, a wonderful life. I wouldn't
change it for anything." Alewka was not sorry but
she was pensive. She was in a quiet, sober way,
appreciating and being thankful for all that had
gone on.
To those who live by higher law, being in
charge of their own life and death, the death of
another loved one, including in this case,
Midnight, was simply another occurrence where they
were sorry. The sorrow was that an individual had
not learned higher law, where their life would
have been so much easier and where, if one decides
to no longer reside in earth, but rather in the
spiritual plane, then that decision can be taken
by an individual at any time. It is not a
death, even as humans know it, but a simple,
enjoyable transition from which one can return at
will, in much the same way Jesus appears before
those who can benefit from his presence.
Sam, too, was thinking back. He was
remembering how Frank Wiley had little faith in
his son, David. He remembered how Frank's attitude
was more about how this dangerous trip for his son
affected him, Frank, rather than considering his
son. Then Sam thought back to the day he "heard"
Eloise, while he was in the garage packing the car
to go to the lake.
There was the day they first communicated and
then, finally, the day when Eloise was able to
appear to the family. Events moved quickly from
there. The visit from Jesus was a day Sam will
never forget. He could not remember ever receiving
such overpowering love.
"I remember, too, sweetheart. There does seem
to be a lot of water passed by here in the years
since we learned to live by higher law. Doesn't it
make you wonder sometimes why we were able to
learn and so many others struggle so hard. I know
the answer, of course, but still, I feel so very
fortunate and thankful."
"I know. Me too."
The couple sat there for another couple hours
reminiscing. There was much to be thankful for and
no one knew it more than they.
They also looked at their kids. Life was
moving on as it should. The 18 year old who had
braved the unknown and first learned higher law
was now a married woman with two children, the
oldest ten. Her husband, Mazunta was a towering
man who held the position of head man of this
village. He, too, had learned higher law.
Then there was Tim who had just married
Sharon. They were here, too. Tim was now 26 and
the couple looked like life would be beautiful for
them.
Tom, at Tim's wedding had his heart stolen by
a very pretty young Chinese girl, Tlang who now
also lived by higher law. Sam and Alewka expected
that within the next five years those two would be
married.
"It saddens me when I see all the kids grow up
and leave home, Sam."
"My goodness, honey, why? This is what you and
I have worked so hard at, preparing them for their
futures. This is a realization of our objectives.
Surely that makes you happy?"
"Well, it does, but I still don't like them
leaving. I love my kids and I want them to stick
around."
"Honey, I'll stick around. How's that?"
She slapped him on his thigh. "Sam, you big
goof. I know I'll always have you around. Thank
you for marrying me so long ago. Life with you has
been good."
"Well thank you Mrs. Henry. I appreciate that,
but you do know it has only been good because you
take such good care of me."
"That's because I love you. I hear what you
are saying. When we are together, working on a
common objective, and when we look after one
another, that's what makes life good all around."
"That's what does it. Plus, I like it when you
snuggle up to me every once in a while. That's
nice."
"You're just a big baby, Sam Henry. You need
mothering. I've known it for a long time." She
laughed.

TODAY'S REPORT:
We are having glorious weather here. The days go by too
fast though. Oh well! Back at work as usual.
I have news. I am going to change this column into another
one of interest for you. I am no longer going to report on
what I am doing for I am not sure that is of any real interest.
So I found a source of information on why we say things a
certain way. It is a background as to the source of word we
use. It is fascinating and I think you will enjoy it. The column
will be WHY DO WE SAY IT?
A-1. Why do we use "A-1" to mean "the very best"?
Because when the Marine insurance firms of London started
the association later to become known as "Lloyds," they also
started a register of ships and shipping in which the
condition of the ships and their cargo was noted. The ships
were graded by letter; the cargoes by number. "A" meant the
ship itself was perfect; "1" that the cargo was likewise
perfect.
Tomorrow - Bachelor. Why is the college degree called a
"bachelor's" degree.

HA! HA! HA!
After just a few years of marriage filled with constant
arguments, a young man and his wife decided the only way to
save their marriage was to try counseling. They had been at
each other's throats for some time and felt that this was
their last straw.
When they arrived at the counselor's office, the counselor
jumped right in and opened the floor for discussion. "What
seems to be the problem?" Immediately, the husband held his
long face down without anything to say. In contrast, the
wife began talking 90 miles an hour, describing all the
wrongs within their marriage.
After 15 minutes of listening to the wife, the counselor
went over to her, picked her up by her shoulders, kissed her
passionately and sat her back down. Afterwards, the wife
sat speechless.
The marriage counselor looked over at the husband, who
stared in disbelief. The counselor said to the husband,
"Your wife NEEDS that at least twice a week!"
The husband scratched his head and replied, "I can have her
here on Tuesdays and Thursdays."
