Why don't you ever hear about heart cancer?
Every other organ in the body gets cancer, so why not the
heart? Well, the truth is the heart CAN be affected by
cancer, but very rarely. Cancer arises from mutations in the
DNA of a cell. Usually, these mutations occur when the cell
is dividing and replicating its DNA. The more cell division
going on, the greater chance of mutations that can lead to
malignancy. Organs that replace cells most often - like the
colon, breast and skin - have high cancer rates. Heart
cells, however, don't replicate unless there has been
injury. The heart is further protected because it's not
exposed to very many carcinogens - just those in the blood.
Organs like the skin and colon are exposed to chemicals,
ultraviolet light, and other carcinogens much more
frequently.
Do saccharin or other artificial sweeteners cause cancer?
Twenty years ago, scientists found that saccharin caused
bladder tumors in rats and the federal government added the
artificial sweetener to its list of carcinogens (agents that
cause cancer). The Food and Drug Administration even called
for a ban of the substance. Instead, Congress made saccharin
manufacturers put a warning label on the product, advising
customers of its possible link to cancer. Now, the
government has removed saccharin from the list of
cancer-causing chemicals, saying that new studies show no
clear association between saccharin and human cancer.
Critics of the earlier studies of rats had already pointed
out that the rats were fed HUGE doses of the sweetener,
equivalent to a human drinking 800 cans of diet soda a day
for their whole life! Other artificial sweeteners, such as
aspartame and sucaralose, have not been linked to cancer.

Sometimes We Ask Too Much!
Emily Sue passed away and Bubba called 911. The 911 operator
told Bubba that she would send someone out right away.
"Where do you live?" asked the operator. Bubba replied, "At
the end of Eucalyptus Drive." The operator asked, "Can you
spell that for me?"
There was a long pause and finally Bubba said... "How 'bout
if I drag her over to Oak Street and you pick her up there?"
It's true, sometimes we ask too much. Have you ever been to
a trade show, like a Home and Garden show, where, as you
pass by booths the folks there call you in and begin to show
you their wares? Then when you are there they begin to ask
questions like your name, your phone number, and the like?
Soon, if you cooperate they want your address, sometimes
they want more, like age, sex, occupation. All this is done
under the innocent auspices of a "survey" and at the end of
it you will get a chance at a free draw where you will get
some fabulous prize, like a set of steak knives.
Leaving that now, have you ever been confronted, say in a
shopping mall, with someone who is doing the same kind of
thing? Maybe they are asking you for your information so you
can get a store credit card.
If you are anything like me, these situations make me
uncomfortable and I do not participate.
It is a condition often seen on the internet, too. A
merchant will want to sell you something, but beyond the
simple here it is and here is how much it costs, they seem
to think they want to study the "demographics".
Studies have proven this kind of "sale" actually fails and
they lose more sales than they get.
The point here is that often organizations will use one
action to "get in the door" and then promote another action.
Is that you? Do you do that?
I know that when that happens to me I immediately terminate
the condition. If you say to me you want my attention to do
one thing, then come on strong on another course, I ask you
to leave my presence, fast. In a subtle sense, that is
fraudulent.
In the joke above, the 911 agent must surely have had a map.
The point is that is a dumb question to ask under the
circumstances.
Let us not be against surveys. Simply let us be truthful
about our intentions, what we need the information for, and
give our prospect the opportunity to decline, without
embarrassment. Every person on the face of the earth has a
right to say yes please, or no thank you to everything that
confronts them. Respect that and you will get a lot further.

For our information to flow a little more naturally, I
will start at the head and work to the reproductive
glands.
The Pineal gland is a small gland located in the middle
of the brain. Its function is to secrete melatonin, the
hormone that regulates your wake-sleep cycle. As it
controls this sleep pattern, any change it its quantity
might well change the sleep pattern. But do remember
that the body is very good at adjusting its needs. It
is also thought to delay sexual maturity until the body
is ready for reproduction. Little is known about the
actual activities of melatonin. For a while, everyone
seemed to be using it, but I would use it very
cautiously. A healthy body should produce adequate

The Pituitary gland is called the master gland. It is
found at the base of the brain, near another important
gland, the hypothalamus.
It plays a central role in regulating the secretions
from many other hormone-secreting glands of the body.
It is very small (pea-size) in relation to some
structures of equal importance, i.e. the heart. It
influences so many areas of the body! Directly and
indirectly it controls your growth, urine production,
blood chemistry and reproductive activities. It also
stimulates the growth of bone and other body tissues.
It plays a role in the body's handling of nutrients and
mineral in electrolyte balance. It stimulates the
thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormones and it
stimulates the adrenal glands to produce other
hormones. It triggers the contractions of the uterus
that occur during labor and activates milk production
at birth. You can see how it affects so many areas of
your body.

I wonder where the prices are going?
There was a time, when I was younger, that one could count
on prices increasing, with wages to follow. Now I see people
making insane amounts of money and the prices shooting sky
high all without any apparent control or reason.
Oil is said to be the real culprit and it is for sure we are
going to see gas prices that would scare you.
The truth is that is what the reaction will be. Budgets,
wages, prices are all spiraling out of control and those on
fixed incomes will find it even harder to make ends meet.
Is all this fueled by war, natural disaster, greed, what?
One thing is for sure, if this keeps up the house of cards
will come crashing down in a big rush.
I am of the opinion there is much going on our politicians
aren't telling us. In fact maybe even some of the
politicians don't know.
To live a quiet, peaceful, prosperous life all one has to do
is to get quiet, still and do some unemotional thinking.
Soon, if you keep it up, there will be some amazing answers
come to your attention. It's worth thinking about folks.

Forest Gump Goes to Heaven
The day finally arrived: Forest Gump dies and goes to
Heaven.
He is met at the Pearly Gates by Saint Peter himself. The
gates are closed, however, and Forest approaches the
gatekeeper.
Saint Peter says, "Well, Forest, it's certainly good to see
you. We have heard a lot about you." "I must inform you that
the place is filling up fast, and we've been administering
an entrance examination for everyone. The tests are fairly
short, but you need to pass before you can get into Heaven."
Forest responds, "It shore is good to be here Saint Peter. I
was looking forward to this." "Nobody ever told me about any
entrance exams. Shore hope the test ain't too hard; life was
a big enough test as it was."
Saint Peter goes on, "Yes, I know Forest." "But, the test I
have for you is only three questions. Here is the first:
What days of the week begin with the letter 'T'?" "Second,
how many seconds are there in a year?" "Third, what is God's
first name?"
Forest goes away to think the questions over. He returns the
next day and goes up to Saint Peter to try to answer the
exam questions.
Saint Peter waves him up and asks, "Now that you have had a
chance to think the questions over, tell me your answers."
Forest says, "Well, the first one, -how many days of the
week begin with the letter 'T'?" "Shucks, that one's easy;
that'd be Today and Tomorrow!" The saint's eyes open wide
and he exclaims, "Forest! That's not what I was thinking,
but... you do have a point though, and I guess I didn't
specify, so I give you credit for that answer."
"How about the next one" says Saint Peter, "how many seconds
in a year?"
"Now that one's harder," says Forest. "But, I thunk and
thunk about that, and I guess the only answer can be
twelve."
Astounded, Saint Peter says, "Twelve!" "Twelve!" "Forest,
how in Heaven's name could you come up with twelve seconds
in a year?"
Forest says, "Shucks, there gotta be twelve: January second,
February second, March second..." "Hold it," interrupts
Saint Peter. "I see where you're going with it." "And I
guess I see your point, though that wasn't quite what I had
in mind." "I'll give you credit for that one too."
"Let's go on with the next and final question," says Saint
Peter, "Can you tell me God's first name?"
Forest says, "Well shore, I know God's first name."
"Everbody probly knows it." "It's Howard."
"Howard?" asks Saint Peter. "What makes you think it's
'Howard'?"
Forest answers, "It's in the prayer."
"The prayer?" asks Saint Peter, "Which prayer?"
"The Lord's Prayer," responds Forest: "Our Father, Howard be
thy name..."
