Where did "Lego" toys get their name?

"Lego" is based on the Danish phrase "Leg godt" ("play
well"). The founder of Lego, Ole Kirk Christiansen,
initially held a contest among his employees and friends to
name the new company. The prize was a bottle of wine. In the
end, he decided he liked his own entry, "Lego," best and
drank his own wine.

What toy did Apollo 8 astronauts carry into space with them?

They took Silly Putty with them. The toy was used to fasten

STRANGE BITS AND PIECES!

IIn order to mate, a male deep sea anglerfish will bite a
female when he finds her. The male will never let go and
will eventually merge his body into the female and spend the
rest of his life inside the female mate. The males internal
organs will disappear apart from the testes that are needed
for breeding.

Tips And Tidbits

From BBC News - - -

Israeli cabinet backs truce deal

The Israeli cabinet has endorsed a UN Security Council
resolution calling for an end to fighting in southern
Lebanon.

A ceasefire between Israel and Lebanese militant group
Hezbollah is due to come into force at 0500 GMT on Monday.

Israel says its forces will not leave southern Lebanon until
peacekeepers are deployed in force, and Sunday saw more
heavy fighting.

A Lebanese cabinet meeting to discuss the disarming of
Hezbollah under the ceasefire has been postponed.

"Hezbollah had some observations over... the discussion of
their disarmament," a government source told Reuters news
agency.

Hezbollah, a member of the government, says it has the right
to continue attacks until the last Israeli soldier has left
Lebanese soil.

Mark Malloch Brown, UN deputy secretary general, has told
the BBC it may take a month before the UN-Lebanese force is
fully in place.

"It's going to be weeks, not days and may even, before you
hit the full total, be a month or so," he told the BBC's
Have Your Say.

"That's how long it will take to get this full armament in
place"

Crescendo of violence

At least 13 Lebanese people, including a mother and her
three children, were killed in Israeli attacks on Sunday,
Lebanese officials say.

Israeli fire-fighter tackles blaze after rocket attack on
Kiryat Shmona More than 150 Hezbollah rockets hit Israel on
Sunday

A Hezbollah rocket killed a woman in Israel, Israeli
emergency services say.

Israeli planes bombed petrol stations in the southern
Lebanese city of Tyre, sending up thick clouds of smoke.

The BBC's Jim Muir described a crescendo of violence in the
hills near the city as Israeli shells, bombs and rockets
smashed into their targets.

The sound of huge explosions reverberated across Beirut as
the Israeli air force carried out a new raid on southern
districts of the city.

Rescue workers said that several multi-storey buildings had
collapsed.

Hezbollah guerrillas had fired more than 150 rockets into
northern Israel by mid-afternoon, killing at least one
person in the town of Yaara and wounding several in Safed.

Haifa's city centre also came under bombardment from
rockets.

'Parallel withdrawal'

Israel's cabinet voted 24-0 with one abstention to accept
the UN resolution, which earlier won the Lebanese
government's approval and qualified support from Hezbollah
leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah.

Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni later stressed that Israeli
forces would not leave Lebanon until the international force
had been deployed.

"We desire... to leave parallel to the move south of the
international forces with the Lebanese army," she told
reporters.

There would not, she said, be a scenario "where we see that
a Lebanese army soldier has arrived and now they tell us to
leave".

The BBC's James Reynolds says that what will happen before
the Israeli withdrawal is a very big unanswered question.

Australian Prime Minister John Howard has said he has
serious concerns about whether the ceasefire will last
unless Hezbollah is disarmed.

Casualties

The UN Security Council unanimously adopted the resolution,
designed to end four weeks of fighting, on Friday.

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan said he was "very happy"
with the truce but added that "preferably, the fighting
should stop now".

He insisted that the UN would work with the Lebanese and
Israeli governments to ensure the ceasefire held.

The truce has been welcomed by Iran, one of Hezbollah's main
supporters, of Hezbollah, though it described the resolution
as unbalanced because it failed to criticise Israel for its
actions in Lebanon.

Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah said on Saturday that Hezbollah
would abide by the resolution but had a "natural right" to
confront Israeli forces "as long as there is Israeli
military movement, Israeli field aggression and Israeli
soldiers occupying our land".

Some Israeli estimates put the number of Israeli troops now
in southern Lebanon at 30,000.

The Israeli army has confirmed that 24 of its soldiers were
killed on Saturday - its highest number of casualties in a
single day since the conflict began.

Israeli forces reached the key target of the Litani river
and they reported killing some 40 Hezbollah fighters - a
claim denied by the guerrillas

More than 1,000 Lebanese and more than 120 Israelis have
been killed in the conflict since Hezbollah militants
captured two Israeli soldiers on 12 July in a cross-border
raid.

A Few Thoughts To Share On Hormones
And Their Actions
PART 9 of 22

Thymus: the thymus is a gland needed early in life for
normal immune development and function. The thymus
gland secretes hormones called “humoral factors”. These
hormones help to develop the lymphatic system. This is
the system throughout your body that helps it to reach
a mature immune response in cells to protect them from
invading bodies, like bacteria, viruses and other
intruders. The thymus hormone, thymosin, is responsible
for the growth and development of the lymphocytes,
which are becoming more researched and known to be
important.

This hormone is directly related to your body’s ability
to withstand many “intruders”. I have always questioned
the need for tonsillectomies and adenoidectomies. I saw
them as a protective mechanism of the body. Research is
now encouraging the end to this practice. I digress,
but it makes more sense to me to keep your body parts
inside of you and as healthy as you can make them.
Somehow cleaning them out and restoring their functions
makes more sense to me now more than ever. If you do
any research on the thymus gland, you will very quickly
be overwhelmed with information on the deficiency to
the immune system and its possible problems.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000818.
htm. We are frequently given “immunosuppressant drugs.
Why would someone want to suppress the body’s natural
response to anything unwanted? Would it not be wiser to
rebuild it? And you know now that as the American
Medical Association says, it is possible. Please
research this closely if you feel a need. Consider
strengthening your body naturally.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby

-----------------------DISCLAIMER

Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

-----------------------END DISCLAIMER

The title article today talks about a negotiated peace in
Lebanon. I hope there is one. Yet there is so much hatred
and so many teaching their children to hate and to kill Jews
I wonder if they will ever learn?

The law is "As ye sow, so shall ye reap." As you teach your
children to hate and kill, so long shall you have terror,
death and destruction.

It could not be more plain. Yet the hatred is so deep seated
the emotion will not permit clear thinking.

Even here at home a poll was taken and near 40% of Americans
think Muslims should carry special ID cards. Tribal
instincts rather than clear thinking is not only a Middle
East problem when you hear statements like that. Maybe we
should have the Jews wear the Star of David, too.

What surprises me about all this is that the proponents of
such crap never think what it would be like if they were
forced to wear armbands with the Christian fish on it. It's
the same old story. All these ideas are good up to the point
where one has to do those things themselves.

Only by becoming peaceful oneself can one experience peace
and prosperity. Do not succumb to the nonsense shown above.
As you become peaceful, prosperity will also visit. And your
example can affect the next person. Slowly this can grow.

The Christians don't like the way the Muslims are using
force to gain ground. The Christians forget the slaughter of
millions they imposed on North and South American natives
all in the name of Christianity. In fact if totals were
drawn over the millennia I believe there has been more blood
spilled in the name of Christianity than any other religion.
So maybe we should now begin to be the persons the Christian
church says we should be.

Of course the church will not teach you to do what Jesus
said you should do. That would take too many people away
from the church. Still, only by doing what Jesus said will
we find any lasting peace.

In part that is what the story The Saga of Pinehill is. If
you want peace and prosperity within your own life then
purchase the two books now in print. Read and study them.
The way to your own peace and prosperity is contained within
their pages.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Achilles' Heel: Why do we use the phrase "Achilles' heel" to
refer to a man's vulnerable spot?

Because Achilles' vulnerable spot was his heel. According to
Greek mythology, Thetis, the mother of Achilles, dipped him
into the river Styx in an attempt to render him
invulnerable. Unfortunately, she held him by his heel as she
did so. And thus his heel became his one vulnerable spot.
Achilles died of a wound received from an arrow shot into
his heel.

HA! HA! HA!

Two couples went out golfing together. The men hit first from
the men's tee and walked with the ladies to their tee box.

The first lady took a mighty swing at the ball, missing it
completely, while passing some gas rather loudly in the
process. No one commented.

She addressed the ball again but this time she passed just a
little gas as she made contact with the ball, topping it and
moving it only a short distance.

She said, "I wonder why it didn't go any further?"

One of the men said, "I don't think you gave it enough gas!"
