What does "Tonka" mean?
The "Tonka" from Tonka trucks comes from the word
"Minnetonka," an American Indian word which is the name of a
suburb west of Minneapolis, MN, and also the name of the
group of lakes where the suburb is located. The original
manufacturing plant for Tonka trucks was located right by
Lake Minnetonka. The name was sort of a pun. Say to yourself
"Mini Tonka Trucks" and you'll see it. The word "Tonka"
means "great" in the Native American language of Sioux.
Why do lips change color?
Your lips appear red because of the concentration of tiny
capillaries (a type of blood vessel) just below the skin.
The blood in these vessels is bright red because it is
highly oxygenated. Lips turn blue in cold weather because
the cold causes the capillaries to constrict and the blood
loses oxygen and becomes darker. When a person has lost a
great deal of blood, or is anemic, the lips appear pale.

So You Think You Know English!
Most of us believe we have a good grasp on the English
language. I dare say that might be right. Give these a try.
Explain what they mean.
A bandage was wound around the wound.
This farm was used to produce produce.
This dump was so full it had to refuse more refuse.
Polish the Polish furniture.
Do not decide to desert your dessert in the desert.
No time like the present, so he decided to present the
present.
A picture of a bass was on a bass drum.
Suddenly, the dove dove.
Do not object to the object.
If you're too close to the door you can't close it.
A pig farmer taught his smartest sow how to sow seeds.
A number of Novocain injections makes you number.
The tear in the picture made the owner shed a tear.
A cop must subject the subject to questions.
A seamstress and a sewer fell into the sewer.
It seems to me, we, all of us, assume we are saying the
right things. Yet how many of us put ourselves into the
shoes of a new immigrant, to see if they would understand
what we are saying.
For some reason the English language has within it several
hundreds of words that have more than one common meaning.
These words are spelled the same, but often mean something
altogether different in different applications.
And we expect our readers to understand! We expect them to
draw conclusions from context, where we should have written
so clear they could understand from what we wrote.
Ahh! the life of a politician. Often they say things right,
but then the press gets hold of it, puts a spin on it, and
it comes out different. It will come out different, too,
when you look at the same piece again three days later.
This happens because your moods affect how you interpret
what your senses give you. It takes training, to overcome
what our emotions would have us believe, and see things as
they factually are.
Don't feel bad. English is not the only language with these
kinds of difficulties. The point here, however, is that you
cannot always assume your audience knows what you mean.
Think clearly when writing and try placing yourself in the
shoes of up to six others, whom you know might have a
problem with what you are saying.
That way your chances of making your writing clear to your
reader becomes a lot better.

Adrenals: what I want of discuss next is an OVERVIEW.
Please do NOT use this for a school project or to make
any final decisions. These hormones are very complex. I
will try and simplify this topic, but that's all it
will be: an oversimplification of a very important part
of our body. I thought it would be interesting to share
my experiences in doing research for this particular
part. I used four medical texts (here in my office) and
five online medical research sites. No two resources
gave the identical information! I was surprised to come
across to this lack of definite descriptions. I say
this so you will not use this as the final answer.
There doesn’t seem to be one. Sites used such terms as
“apparently” and “it seems”. That told me this was
still subject to interpretation. So I will try to share
what I learned.
Your adrenals are very important in your life. You have
two. One lies on the top of each kidney. If you don’t
know where your kidneys are, run your hand to the
bottom of your ribs at your back. Then run your hand up
from the hip on the same side: in between lie your
kidneys. You have to use your imagination a bit, but if
you were having kidney surgery, you would be placed on
your side and a little bar would be elevated under this
area to “expose” that portion of the kidney.

talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.

The world is falling apart completely now. Some states in
India have banned Coca-Cola and Pepsi. Can you imagine the
audacity of that move?
A department within the Indian government tested the drinks
from several places throughout the country and found them to
contain pesticide levels far beyond what is considered safe.
Of course the companies deny it. They have brought in labs
and scientists in an effort to ward off the threat. All the
test results presented by the companies show their drinks to
be safe. Some surprise, huh?
Even the American government is in on it now, offering
warnings to India the they may no longer get American
companies investing in India if they ban these two drinks.
Now, let's see. Years ago Union Carbide had that Bopal
incident that killed many and caused untold amount of
sickness in thousands of others. There was no restitution to
speak of in that incident.
Now the Indian government has tested these drinks from all
over the country and have come up with the results that
these drinks are bad for a person's health. I wonder why
they are concerned? American companies have such a good
track record in India.
Having said that, a maybe revealing my own point of view,
let me say this. I don't know if the Indian government claim
is right or wrong. All I know is it is a claim. Now that it
is in the open it is only right that it be investigated to
its proper conclusion.
If anything has been made clear in the last decade,
throughout the world, it is that business does not care how
it makes its money. In that sense business has failed
miserably in maintaining the trust of the consumer.
I think these drinks should be tested in all countries of
the world. That way there could be a preponderance of
evidence that will either prove or disprove the Indian
claim. However, neither of these two companies should be
involved in such investigations in any way.
In the meantime you may find your own life a little less
stressful if you decide not to drink these drinks. But, that
is only a suggestion. One must do what one wishes in order
to be who they want to be.
Peace and prosperity can be yours right where you are if
that ever becomes a desire. That is what the story The Saga
