In terms of chemical composition, what substance does human
blood most closely resemble?
The substance chemically closest to blood is sea water. In
fact, the saline solution which is used in intravenous
injections, "normal saline," is 0.9% salt to water, the same
salinity as sea water. It's also the salinity of amniotic
fluid, the liquid which surrounded all of us in utero,
before we were born. Of course, sea water contains lots of
other "trace minerals," which are mostly also present in
blood. Really, it would be more correct to say that human
plasma most closely resembles sea water.
Do sword swallowers really swallow the sword?
It's no trick: they really DO swallow the sword. It's not
easy though. Sword swallowers must relax the throat muscles
and keep them completely relaxed while the sword is inside.
The swords are dull, but they CAN do damage to the throat,
esophagus, or stomach.

No sooner do I finish an article on using good english,
but someone else throws a curve at us.
I don't know why the above message works, but it does.
Yet, folks, we should still use good english, correct
spelling and proper grammar.
Good clear communication is tough enough without
learning the above will work. Think of it as funny, but
don't use it as an excuse to permit poor spelling.
I notice many mistakes when I go through the material
I write. I hope I catch all of them. However, since the
worst proofer in the world is the one who did the writing,
there is a better than excellent chance things get through.
That is why, when I can, I like to have someone else
read it, too. Another good trick to use is to put it aside
and come back to it in a couple or three hours.
Now the point here is not that I'm an english nut, that I
get upset when I see poor use of the language. The point
here is that when you use the language in a way that
gets your message across to your audience, whether it
be one or a thousand, then everybody is happier. It is
most important for ones progress to be able to
communicate in a way where one's audience
understands quickly.
Actually, I can't think of anything that can advance a
career faster than good strong communications skills
coupled with a good memory. Think on that, long and
hard.
The language you use is a magnificent tool and it's
correct use will go far to putting bread and butter on
your table and dollars in your pockets.

A Few Thoughts To Share On Hormones
And Their Actions

You need to remember that the pituitary and
reproductive glands are also very closely involved
along with the adrenal hormones. A precursor is an
element required for the manufacture of the main
“item”.
These hormones influence or regulate many functions
such as salt, potassium and water balance in the body
(electrolyte concentration). Each one controls part of
the body's response to stress, metabolism, your immune
system, and sexual reproductive functions. These
hormones help the body control blood sugar, and
increase the burning of protein and fat. They respond
to stressors like fever, major illness, and injury.
They control blood volume and help to regulate blood
pressure by acting on the kidneys to help them hold
onto enough sodium and water. They support the body's
immune system.
Chemically, all the cortical hormones are steroids.
Steroids are hormones that affect the development and
growth of sex organs. Testosterone (male) and estrogen
(female) are examples of such steroids, i.e. hormones.
Incidentally, synthetic steroids are useful for cancer
treatments, but they might have undesirable
side-effects. When they are used for this purpose their
function then is to alter the metabolism of the cancer
cell growth. It would also have an effect on the
regular cells as well.

More than once I have read articles about a growing world
water problem. As we experience global warming we will also
experience drought. That means many areas will be without
water.
We know not where those areas will be, but we do know it
will hit the wealthy countries as well as the poor. This
problem will be no respecter of persons.
One of the problems is that presently large cities waste a
lot of water. It means that when there are water shortages
that "wasting" will cause even more shortages. It is said
that London, England alone, with all its old water and
sewage systems looses over 300 million gallons a day. That
might be tolerable when there is lots of water, but when
there are water shortages that loss is completely
unacceptable.
One might look into their own water consumption. Simple
little things like using toilet cleansers that you put into
toilet tanks eat away at the rubber stopper and cause leaks.
I live in an area where the water has too much sodium. I
opted to install a cistern and have my water hauled in. The
tank is 3200 gallons. We used those toilet cleansers and
found they eat the rubber and cause leaks that cost us
nearly a whole tank of water. Where we usually consume a
tank once every three months this one particular time we
went through a tank in a month.
Our water supplier told us to check the toilet seal in the
tanks. We did. They were bad. We stopped using the
cleansers, changed the stoppers and from that time we have
had no difficulty. We now make it a point to change the
stoppers once a year.
Little things like that can make a huge collective
difference in the amount of water consumed in a large city.
Consider checking yours.
Again, I know we seem to have an abundance of water now.
However, when there is a water shortage every little drop
will be precious.
Also, this is not intended to cause you worry. It is to keep
you aware and in part show you some things you can do to
help.
Remember, worrying, fretting and being fearful and lonely is
not the way to tackle your future. If these things are of
