What exactly is the difference between a "winter storm
warning" and a "winter storm watch"?
It's a matter of timing and certainty. A "watch" alerts you
to the fact that severe winter weather, such as heavy snow
or ice, is possible in the next day or two. The timing and
exact location are uncertain, however. A "warning" is more
serious. It means that severe weather conditions have
already begun or will begin very soon. It's usually issued
when more than six inches of snow is expected, or when ice
or dangerous wind chills or a combination of all three are
on the way.
Does snow affect how sound waves travel?
You might have noticed that when it snows, the world SOUNDS
different. It seems almost as if you can tell it has snowed
even before you look out the window. Turns out snow DOES
affect sound waves. According to the National Snow and Ice
Data Center, when the ground has a thick layer of fresh,
fluffy snow, sound waves are readily absorbed at the surface
of the snow. But when the snow surface has become smooth and
hard from aging or because there have been strong winds, the
snow surface actually helps to reflect sound waves. Sounds
may seem clearer and travel farther.

Communication Skills?
A man is a person who, if a woman says, "Never mind,
I'll do it myself; lets her.
A woman is a person who, if she says to a man, "Never
mind, I'll do it myself," and he lets her; gets mad.
A man is a person who, if a woman says to him, "Never
mind, I'll do it myself," and he lets her and she gets
mad; says, "Now what are you mad about?"
A woman is a person who, if she says to a man, "Never
mind, I'll do it myself," and he lets her and she gets
mad, and he says, "Now what are mad about?" says, "If
you don't know I'm not going to tell you."
Aaah! The never ending battle of the sexes. This comes
up because, I guess, "Men Are From Mars, Women
Are From Venus".
I like this joke, probably because it comes too close
to the truth.
It is truly funny how we let our habits get in the way of
good communication. And yet, good communication
is the only thing that will ensure a continuing good
relationship.
It starts with trust. Without it you don't have good
communication. That applies in all forms of communication,
whether with ones significant other, someone else, a
group, on the website, in your email, on radio, in the
newspaper or on television.
Trust is the key element, for if you are not believable,
if you are not trustworthy, folks will turn off.
That applies with the significant other, too. To
communicate effectively one must trust you will not
abuse what you learn in the conversation. The only
way I know to do that is to listen well, without emotion,
and use any information you get, for the common good,
not for your own agenda.
Funny, that applies to all communication. If you are
seen as a opportunist, taking advantage of information
for your good alone, that will turn folks off again.
But if you believe you are doing right, and convey that
in a way that folks believe you have their interests at
heart, your communication will yield much for all involved.
And that is the key to good communication, a good deal,
a good sale, is that if it works out the best for all involved,
it is then good communication.
One way communication leaves the scene of good
communication, soon after one reaches puberty. To
that point a parent, teacher, adult is seen as an authority
figure and what they say can be one sided communication.
Once one reaches puberty, however, they are seeking
themselves and need open and honest communication.
That means two way. Think on that. It will save you
lots of trouble.
So besides using words your audience understands,
good communication is seen to have your audiences
interests at heart. Doing that will bring rewards from
all corners.

Your body needs fuel to run. This process is called
metabolism. Without it you cannot live. You eat an egg
with some toast, but your body cannot use the egg and
toast in that form. So it needs to be transformed into
something that can be transported by your blood stream
to each and every cell in your body. (You can't have an
egg on a piece of toast flowing through your
bloodstream.)
That egg and toast are made up of many "ingredients:
fats, carbohydrates, proteins (macronutrients) plus
antioxidants, minerals etc. (micronutrients). In order
for these to be changed into usable fuel, the pancreas
gets an automatic message to release a hormone called
insulin. The insulin converts this meal into a good
"sugar" and you now have fuel that flows through your
bloodstream to give you energy for your activities,
including all those activities your body does that you
don’t know about. Extra sugar (glycogen) that is not
“matched” with insulin will now be stored in your liver
or in your muscles. (The extra donut and fries.)

Saddam is back on trial, this time for the gassing of the
Kurds in northern Iraq. He is as arrogant as ever.
The verdict for the trial just completed is expected on
October 16. Until then this new trial will go on.
The suspect in the JonBenet Ramsay case has now arrived back
on US soil. What a lot of emotions that one drags up out of
the past. Even without a trial people are ready to hang the
man.
I know the circumstances make it look like this guy is
guilty - but it is really because that is what we want it to
look like. All of the US wants a solution to that case.
In Zimbabwe the government has changed its currency and as
of today the old currency is no longer going to be accepted.
People are lining up at banks and anywhere they can to turn
in their banknotes.
You should see what happens when this type of government
action takes place. I was in India when the Indian
government did that. Their purpose then was to curb the
black market which was thriving more than the regular Indian
economy. Anyone could turn in their 100 rupee notes so long
as they would tell the bank or the government where they got
them.
Wow! what a time that was. Those in the black market lost a
lot of money because they had to bribe bankers and
government officials. The poor people on the street didn't
suffer too much. Within six months the condition was back
nearly to what it once was.
I suspect the same thing will happen in Zimbabwe. They have
no sound fiscal policy and before long the value of their
banknotes will be as before.
I sometimes live in awe of the absolute confusion and chaos
that exists in man's world. There is no peace anywhere. Even
in places where there is an absence of war there is no
peace. There is only fear and greed. None are at rest.
Only the strong, independent thinkers have a chance at
peace. Only those who are prepared to look honestly at all
sides of a situation have a chance at peace. Only those who
are prepared to stand alone will have a chance at their
Maker's peace and prosperity. Is that you?
Peace and prosperity can be yours right where you are if
that ever becomes a desire. That is what the story The Saga
