What is graupel?
Graupel are small pellets of ice made when supercooled water
droplets coat a snowflake. The pellets are cloudy or white,
not clear like sleet. They are often mistaken for hail.
Do humans have fewer bones as they grow older?
Yes. Infants are born with 300 to 350 bones. As they grow
up, some of those bones fuse together. The average adult has
just 206 bones. Those bones don't weigh that much, either.
On average, the skeletal system accounts for less than
twenty percent of your weight.

Have you ever felt left out? It does not feel good.
Have you ever experienced loneliness during the holidays?
Many people find this to be the loneliest time of the year.
Everyone seems to be going somewhere, meeting someone, doing
something exciting and there we sit. Doing nothing, nowhere,
with noone.
NEWS FLASH! That's your choice! Oooh, does that sound a
little harsh? It is not. It's the reality of the situation.
Sure, you may wish that one group had invited you to join in
and that saddens you. There's a big question, though.
Think about this story. I love it. It was told about Leo
Buscaglia, the well-known therapist and author and it has
always stuck in my mind.
Some people in his class rushed to him one evening and told
him that a young man had committed suicide. They were so
moved because the young man had left a note saying, "I am so
lonely. I am going to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge
and, if no one smiles at me, I am going to commit suicide."
"Isn't that sad?" they moaned to Leo.
Leo thought for a few minutes and responded,
"Yes, that is sad. However, I have a question. How many
people did the young man smile at?"
Sometimes, we leave ourselves out. We think others are
responsible for our happiness, for our self-esteem, for our
self-confidence, for our sense of belonging. No. Lovely
though it might be to have someone to blame, it is our
responsibility to build the life we most want.
I looked up the word 'include' in the dictionary and found
that it actually means "to take in or comprise as part of
the whole".
Do you see yourself as part of the whole or apart from the
whole? If the group does not invite you in, invite a group
to you. I know that makes it sound so easy and that it is
not always easy to think that way. Your feelings may be
hurt.
OK, you know what I'm going to say, don't you? When your
feelings are hurt, take action. Tell the 'hurter'! How can
anyone know what hurts you unless you tell them? Do you live
in a colony of mind readers? Of course, not. Do you think
and act as though you do?
No one knows how you feel unless you tell them. And, sure,
even when you tell them, there are a lot of folks who just
don't listen! That might happen, but, do take responsibility
for telling folks how you feel and what you want. After
that, it's up to them. How they respond tells you whether
they are actually the kind of people with whom you would
want to be included!
Take responsibility: you have to do your homework, your
'own' work first! Examine yourself. Have you treated the
person well? Have you demonstrated willingness to be
included? Have you expressed a desire to be included? More
importantly, have you included them?
You are responsible for teaching people how to treat you.
Take that reasonability seriously.
Do not get caught up in 'victim' thinking! You know that old
song:
"Nobody likes me. Everybody hates me. I think I'll go out
and eat worms."
Whoever wrote that song needed a mental makeover. Yes, it
could have been just a fleeting thought in the songwriter's
mind--and I sincerely hope it was--,however, some folks make
it a lifestyle! If you ever feel like a victim and then take
no action to remedy the situation, you've just become a
volunteer!
So, begin now. Have the best holidays ever. Take action now.
Be inclusive to be included.

A Few Thoughts To Share On Hormones
And Their Actions
PART 16 of 22
But imagine you feel hungry. If you don't have any food
to give it, it means your the body is short of fuel.
The pancreas then sends a message via glucagon to the
liver to release some glycogen. This glycogen is then
converted into glucose which is now your fuel. If you
continue to "borrow" from your storage supply, its load
will eventually be depleted. Your muscles, another
source of glycogen, will then be depleted. They will
become emaciated. If you don't continue to fuel your
body (starvation), you will eventually die. So the
roles of insulin and glucagon are to be messengers in
keeping your fuel supply even. Glucagon is the opposite
hormone of insulin. It essentially takes stored fat and
changes it into sugar as means of increasing blood
sugar levels (fuel).
As long as you provide good food, the hormones will
work together to maintain a steady level of glucose, or
sugar, in the blood and to keep the body supplied with
fuel to produce and maintain stores of energy. Amazing
findings are being revealed about what takes place in
our bodies when we eat what is now referred to as a
high glycemic meal. I urge you to study this reseouce
and use it to keep your body healthy.

The medical term for high blood sugar is called
hyperglycemia (too much sugar in the blood). Too little
sugar in the blood is called hypoglycemia. (too little)
There are many people who have hypoglycemia and need to
carry some form of digestible food with them at all
times. Hypoglycemia can affect your body more quickly.
It can be life threatening. Hyperglycemia shows up
much more slowly. It builds up in your body over time.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby
-----------------------DISCLAIMER
Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.
Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.
-----------------------END DISCLAIMER
Things change every day. Nothing stays the same. I see more
and more reports on how global warming will be affecting our
world.
Today there was a report about how warm temperatures and wet
humid conditions appear to be reactivating bugs and bacteria
for diseases we thought we had beaten.
I don't think this is good or bad. We need only be aware and
be ready for such changes.
The Pakistani atomic scientist who leaked information to
Iran and to North Korea now has prostate cancer. I wonder if
that is the law working (As ye sow, so shall ye reap), or
just some kind of poetic justice?
The Iranians now say they want to talk. Sure sounds like
another stall tactic to me.
The US and South Korea are holding their annual military
games. This has always provoked a response from North Korea
and the same is true this year. However, this year they have
threatened pre-emptive strikes against what it says is a
military preparing to attack.
There has been some suspect vehicle movement in North Korea
the US is worried about.
Israel has again attacked in the Gaza. They continue to take
Hamas prisoners. They are pursuing their own man who was
taken in a cross border raid by Hamas a month ago.
So you see the situation is SNAFU (Situation normal - all
fouled up). It is typical of man's world and will only
escalate as the years go by. Escalation is inevitable and
unstoppable so long as man thinks the way he does. To argue
against that is like arguing against motherhood.
It is clear that man's thinking so far has gotten him to
where he is. If he continues to think as he does he will
only go further down the same path.
Peace is the exclusive domain of each individual. Each has
the responsibility to choose it and work on maintaining it.
Peace is not up to governments - it is up to the individual.
Only those who are prepared to look honestly at all
sides of a situation have a chance at peace. Only those who
are prepared to stand alone will have a chance at their
Maker's peace and prosperity. Is that you?
Peace and prosperity can be yours right where you are if
that ever becomes a desire. That is what the story The Saga
of Pinehill is about, a blueprint for you to follow. If you
want peace and prosperity within your own life then purchase
the two books now in print. Read and study them. The way to
your own peace and prosperity is contained within their

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Darby and Joan: What is the reason we refer to a loving old
couple as "Darby and Joan"?
The name comes down to us from a ballad by David Woodfall in
which Darby and Joan were pictured as growing old together
happily. Darby and Joan were real people: Woodfall actually
served his apprenticeship with John Darby.
