or as Clark Kent. Kal-El's father, who sent him out in the
ship, was Jor-El a scientist from the planet Krypton.

Why do penguins waddle?
A long walk for a penguin can be tough as well as comical,
but if not for their waddle these birds would be exhausted.
Scientists praise the penguin's waddle for the energy it
helps conserve. Conserve? Conventional wisdom has found
penguins expend twice as much energy in walking a given
distance as any more graceful animal of similar weight. But
it's not the waddling that does it, suggest researchers at
the University of California, Berkeley. It's those stubby
little legs. By studying Emperor penguins at San Diego Sea
World, investigators found the penguin's short legs means
its leg muscles must generate force very quickly, a
formidable energy demand. And while waddling may look
ungainly, the roly-poly motion helps the penguin swing its
legs forward -- reducing the amount of energy it must expend
to traverse terra firma. Actually, reports senior study
author Rodger Kram, those toddling penguins burn about the
same amount of calories per unit mass as do other animals
with short legs, such as the guinea fowl. Kram takes his
results one step further by pointing out the waddling
behavior of others -- including pregnant women and those who
are obese. Citing studies that suggest pregnant women expend
less energy when walking, pound per pound, than before
pregnancy, Kram asserts the waddle may be why. Kram contends
many may wonder why they should care about how penguins
walk, but "this information may lead to improved
understanding, evaluation, and treatment of individuals with
gait disabilities," he said. "Beyond this, we never know
what else this bird may tell us."

A Churchgoer wrote a letter to the editor of the newspaper
and complained that it made no sense to go to church every
Sunday. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that
time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the
life of me I can't remember a single one of them. So I think
I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by
giving sermons at all."
This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the
Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor. It went
on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:
I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has
cooked some 32,000 meals. But for the life of me, I cannot
recall what the menu was for a single one of those meals.
But I do know this: they all nourished me and gave me the
strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me
those meals, I would be dead today."
No comments were made on the sermon contents anymore.
I have seen this time and time again. The logic of the final
retort by the man whose wife fed him 32,000 meals appears to
be so logical and so associated that there remains nothing
more to be said on the first subject.
The fact is, folks, the two are not related. They are apples
and oranges. The one speaks of religious matters while the
other speaks of physical, medical or survival matters.
The one speaks of going to church and listening, thinking,
absorbing. The other, sadly, speaks of a man who was too
lazy to get his own meals or help out in that regard.
The point here is this. It may be a good thing for you to go
to church. It may not. What it depends on is what you think
about it.
Eating is something about which we have very little choice.
It is well documented that without food we die.
Not going to church has no such effect on a person. In fact
there are many spiritual people who have never darkened the
doorway of organized religion.
Those in organized religion use this kind of argument,
often, to convince the masses of their value. They may well
be valuable, but in my eyes when they use arguments like
this it weakens their position. There is no relationship
between the final letter, and the main subject. It just
looks that way to those who prefer others do their thinking
for them.
This discussion is about religion. I have seen exactly the
same process used by others on other topics. Outside the
religious scene we are often warned by police to look out
for those who use this style of sales talk. Too often they
fall into the category of "con-artists".

The most common female hormonal change is caused by the
start of menopause. This is not a disease or a negative
condition. This is part of the normal aging process.
(The ovaries, if diseased, can also be removed
surgically: thus menopause will begin immediately). If
the ovaries are no longer present, there is no other
way for the body to produce these hormones. Thus all
the related functions of a pregnancy cannot happen. The
message to get the body ready for pregnancy will not be
sent. Some side effects of the lack or absence of the
estrogen hormone are hot flashes, thinning vaginal
tissue, lack of menstrual periods, mood changes and
bone loss (osteoporosis). One not too uncommon
condition to these hormones is a condition called
polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
Reproductive hormones: Male
The male sex gland is the testis. There are two testes
and each is located in the scrotum, which is a small
bulb-like structure outside the lower abdomen. These
glands are the main source of sex hormones called
testosterone but you will recall the pituitary and
other glands (adrenals) also send chemical messengers
to enhance the these activities. In this instance,
working with hormones from the pituitary gland,
testosterone is also involved in the production of
sperm by the testes. The hormones that are secreted are
called androgens. They regulate body changes associated
with sexual development, including enlargement of the
penis, the growth spurt that occurs during puberty, and
the appearance of other male secondary sex
characteristics such as deepening of the voice, growth
of facial and pubic hair, and the increase in muscle
growth and strength

Well, today I have to vent. The leader of Hezbollah has now
said that if he had any idea his kidnapping of two Israeli
soldiers would have led to war he would not have ordered it.
Has anyone in this world ever seen such stupidity? How many
people died over that issue. And dying is not bad, they're
the lucky ones. How many more are left behind to mourn and
attempt to put back their lives into some kind of reality?
How many kids without mothers or fathers are left behind?
How much more hatred has he promoted? How many more
years of fighting, death, destruction has he created by
this stupidity?
Men like the leader of the Hezbollah should be considered
war criminals and treated as such. His own people should get
him and try him.
I'll stop now. It is just that some times I am incredulous
at the degree of man's stupidity. I am very well
aware that all is unfolding as it should and that this is
his "mental place". I remain flabbergasted nonetheless.
This man brought death and destruction down on his people
for why? Was it just a whim? A lark? Is this man another of
those clerics who never cracked a book and goes back to what
he calls a "fundamentalism" that comes out of antiquity? Is
he another who has "religious police" who go around raping
women then having them killed because they had sex against
the laws of fundamentalism?
If any man wants peace he will have to look at the world
differently than he presently does. The world today is a
result of man's collective thinking in the past. It is clear
peace will elude him until he changes the way he thinks.
Until them the chaos he has set up and promotes will
continue to escalate and become worse as time goes by.
Peace is the exclusive domain of each individual. Each has
the responsibility to choose it and work on maintaining it.
Peace is not up to governments - it is up to the individual.
Only those who are prepared to look honestly at all
sides of a situation have a chance at peace. Only those who
are prepared to stand alone will have a chance at their
Maker's peace and prosperity. Is that you?
Peace and prosperity can be yours right where you are if
that ever becomes a desire. That is what the story The Saga
