Can any species of penguin fly?
No, not through the air, at least. They can, however, fly
through water. Penguins swim by moving their flippers
(wings) like other birds use their wings to fly. Penguins
are able to stay in icy water for long periods of time
thanks to a thick coat of fatty blubber that insulates them
against the cold. Penguins also have a "heat exchange"
system of blood vessels in the flippers and legs that helps
them avoid losing heat at the core of the body. Penguins are
SO well insulated that they sometimes have to cool
themselves by fluffing out their feathers and flooding blood
through the blubber. Imagine that - being too hot in the
frozen ice!
Is it true that male penguins are the ones that hatch the
eggs?
Male Emperor penguins do indeed incubate the eggs. After
laying the egg, the mother penguin returns to the sea to
feed. The father penguin stays on his feet incubating the
egg for as long as two months until it hatches. Usually, the
mother is back by that time. But if she hasn't yet returned,
the male penguin feeds the baby chick with a milky fluid
that comes out of his throat.

Are You Leaving Effective Voice Mail?
How can your message avoid the delete button? What is
missing in your message that might get the call returned?
Voice mail is your friend. Do you believe that? Most folks
don't. They are frustrated, annoyed and discouraged when
they are met with an 'automated assistant'. Don't be. Voice
mail IS your friend.
Sure, there are varying opinions, two schools of thought: To
leave or not to leave, that is the question. Some believe
that any contact is a good contact. They always leave voice
mail. Others hang up because they don't want to 'waste' the
contact. What's your opinion? And, what do you do?
Different calls, different answer? Remember, people are
busy, overwhelmed, in fact. Research suggests that an
average business executive gets 350 communiques each
day--voice mail, email, faxes, pagers, and letters. With
that much 'noise', any excuse to delete seems a valid one.
If your voice mail rambles, or, if it begins without a clear
point, gone!
'Cold calling' may be going the way of the do-do bird! It
has been ruined by telemarketers. Even if you do have a
terrific offer, consumers are so sensitive to sales
calls--even if you do not seem to be reading a script--that
hanging up has become easier and easier for them.
You might remember a day when hanging up on someone was the
height of rudeness. Well, that was in the same day, when
talking over, through, around and under someone was also
considered crass. The persistence and insistence of some
telemarketers has made hanging up a more viable alternative
than letting loose with what you really think! Folks are
hyper-vigilant to unsolicited connections.
So, if voice mail is your friend, how do you use it to your
advantage?
Voice mail can be straightforward, full-on marketing. You
have only a few moments to build credibility, leave a clear
message and a call for action or decision. Of course, there
are degrees of effectiveness. Make your messages so
compelling folks have to call you back.
If you are thinking that an effective voice mail is a
predictable one, you're on the wrong track. We live in a
'sound bite, video clip' world. If the message is
predictable, the listener has tuned out.
If the message is all about you, you're toast! Even in the
voice mail world, that old radio station, WIIFM, is still
the most popular. That's "What's In It For Me?" The answer
is "whatever the listener wants/needs to know".
"Sell the benefits." You know that is the key to sales &
marketing. It's the key to effective voice mail as well.
What can you say that will lead the listener to know and
believe that you have something of value for them? Prospects
return calls if you convince them you may have something
they want...and, soon.
Leaving messages for friends and family is a spontaneous
act. Not so at work. You need to prepare your message. Be
ready before you dial.
I know you've received messages that sound as though the
caller was bored to tears. Make sure your messages are
fresh, enthusiastic and energetic. When I am recording
promos or doing voice-overs, I make it a point to stand up
during the taping. Why? My voice is more animated. I even
hold my hands up above my shoulders to increase the
projected energy. Do the same if you have several calls to
make. It will make your message stand out.
Leave short, succinct messages. Arouse their curiosity. That
means not giving them the whole message. It gives then a
enticing reason to return your call.
Step up! Confidently TELL people to call you back rather
than asking them to do so. If that is a big stretch for you,
practice on your friends first. But, do it! It makes a
significant difference in your return rate.
Just a few ideas for making voice mail your friend. Get a
higher return on your time and energy investment.

Any change in the production of the hormone, androgen,
will result in fairly obvious changes. A lack of
androgens would result in less masculine
characteristics or behaviour. And increase of androgens
would enhance these characteristics. It is relatively
easy to understand that the undesirable "steroid"
notoriety is based on people taking these products to
enhance their masculinity. But this practice seems to
be done because the person feels inadequate abut their
appearance or strength. Thus they have to support their
negative self image by taking synthetic male hormones
(steroids).
What is a little harder to understand is the lack of
fear about the side effects of this practice. Here are
some possible side effects in using synthetic steroids.
They include changes in appearance (acne or increased
facial hair), development of a round or moon-shaped
face, thin, fragile skin that bruises easily, or
changes of body fat to the trunk. You might also
experience mood changes, personality changes,
irritability, agitation, or depression. Other possible
side effects include increased appetite and weight
gain, poor wound healing, headache, glaucoma, irregular
menstrual periods in women, peptic ulcer, muscle
weakness, osteoporosis, steroid-induced diabetes, and
osteonecrosis (damage to the hip joint that leads to
severe arthritis). This is obviously a very serous
undertaking and should not be done without a lot of
medical support and recommendations.

I'm not certain what hit the American economy but it is
quite clear there is a lowering of consumer confidence.
Is there any possibility consumers are getting sick and
tired of the need to be continually competitive in order to
keep up with the Joneses (is there no rest?) Has it anything
to do with the fact it now takes two in a household to keep
a family going where it once took only one? Would it be the
typical American is becoming somewhat disillusioned about
the war in Iraq, terrorism, and the way the government is
creating the environment within which they live?
I would think it was all these things. I would think there
is a deep, subtle, psychological backlash about to burst
onto the scene wherein people feel these conditions cannot
go on any longer. When that hits then there will be trouble.
There will be trouble for the government, trouble for the
people and trouble for the world.
How long can the US go on being the peacekeeper or policeman
for the whole world? In my mind it is almost impossible for
the current condition to be maintained. Within the next five
years we will see an escalation of tensions and a weakening
ability to deal with them. I'm somewhat concerned where all
that will lead.
Call me an old fuddy duddy if you want, yet think on these
two points:
1. Nothing stays the same. There is continual change
completely uncontrollable by man.
2. The law "As ye sow, so shall ye reap" will find deficit
funding for war efforts around the world and one day those
debts will be called.
All this goes to produce unrest and uncertainty in people.
The masses will react in ways the governments will be unable
to control. It could be dangerous. Think on that for a
while. Where will you find peace?
Peace is the exclusive domain of each individual. Each has
the responsibility to choose it and work on maintaining it.
Peace is not up to governments - it is up to the individual.
Only those who are prepared to look honestly at all
sides of a situation have a chance at peace. Only those who
are prepared to stand alone will have a chance at their
Maker's peace and prosperity. Is that you?
Peace and prosperity can be yours right where you are if
that ever becomes a desire. That is what the story The Saga
