The monkey wrench has nothing to do with monkeys. The
tool is named after the man who invented it: Charles Moncky
(also spelled in some sources as Charles Moncke).
Who invented the elevator?
Many people point to Elisha Otis as the inventor of the
elevator, but really he didn't invent it. Elisha just invented
the automatic safety brake to make elevators safe (a very
good invention, we will admit). No one person can be said
to have invented the elevator. Various types of lifts to raise
things have been around throughout most of history.
Steam-powered elevators were commonly used in the
nineteenth century to lift freight, but weren't safe for people
since the ropes that hoisted them frequently broke. When
Elisha invented his braking system in the middle of the
nineteenth century, he actually placed himself inside an
elevator and had someone cut the ropes to demonstrate
how well his automatic brake worked. The publicity stunt
helped. Soon, passenger elevators were common.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Fats and fried foods.
QUESTION: Can you give me information on how fried foods
effect your blood pressure, and can you tell me how much fried
foods effect your blood pressure. Please get back to me as soon
as possible.
ANSWER: I would refer you to the information above, plus good,
newly published dietary books. The discussion of fats in our
diets is very controversial right now. With so much research
going on, we are learning that our bodies NEED some fat. The
challenge is what kind and how much. And when you ask about
"fried foods", I would suggest the entire concept might be based
on a fast food meal. And then you would want to ask what type
of fat is used. I would hazard a guess it would NOT be "good"
fats like a Omega fatty acid, which is what we would like people
to consider. I am now going to stick my neck out and make a
rather unpopular statement. Many dieticians are still providing
less than current and well-researched information.
I had a chance to "visit" with Wayne Pickering a few days ago.
If you go to his web site, he has many different things to offer,
including recipes and health articles. His newsletter is fun! Do
I sound like a commercial? I don't mean to be, but it is difficult
to get on the road to health if you don't know anything about
foods and how to eat better. This is a good starting point.

are so "way out there" that you lose your enthusiasm for
changing your unhealthy habits and revert back to your old
ones. Another book I am enjoying is Suzanne Somers' Get
Skinny On Fabulous Food. The foreword by
Dr. Diane Schwarzbein is most helpful and an eye-opener.
It's almost worth the price of the book alone. It's a mini course
in reversing your health challenges! So treat yourself to a
healthy start for 2003.

David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

"Yes, they are. These merchants have suffered for years, as
has this whole area. This section of the city has always been
known as the poor section of town. Those with money did not
come here. They thought they were above us and sought to
spend their lives 'being better' than us. Today things have
changed somewhat. As the church has tried different things
to get their hands on this orphanage, or more particularly, the
money they think this orphanage has, so, too, have the
merchants been under pressure by those who are
unscrupulous. Those who follow money are trying to buy
them out, or force them out of business. Then those who
would do this want to move in and take over the business
in this community. Riata, and the kids have all been involved
in helping the merchants stay here. They have helped us
in the past. We like them there." responded Reno.
"The merchants didn't mention that!" said a surprised Maria.
"They don't know of the times we thwarted attempts against
them. You were asking about us, not about those attempts.
They had no reason to explain. If you did, all they could say
is the threat suddenly was gone." answered Reno.
"Do you do all your work in secret?" Maria asked.
"It is not in secret, Maria. Our job is to do good, not for our
own sakes. We need no credit or thank you's. It is good to
do the deed then move on. Does the sun ask for credit for
being there?" Reno answered by question.
"Well, no, but that is different." said Maria.
"That is what you think, but it is not different. The sun is there
by law. I live my life by law. That I, like the sun, am able to
do good, is my privilege. I need no attention for it any more
than the sun needs attention because it does good. In fact if
I were to seek thanks, then doing the good deed is for my
sake, not others. No, the best is to help, then leave, without
others even knowing I was there to help." said Reno.
Riata was looking on and listening. Her heart was almost
bursting with pride that this innocent little thirteen year old
had the knowledge. "That's the way Reno. You are quite
right. You are doing well. I love you." she transmitted to Reno.
"Thank you." said Reno, out loud.
"What for?" asked Maria.
"Oh! Riata is here listening to our conversation. She just told
me I was saying the right things. She taught me well, but I
still need her once in a while." responded Reno.
She went on, "Those who seek attention have their reward.
It is the shallow empty reward of the worldly. Even those who
experience fame find that fame empty at the personal level.
It is much better to do good deeds, seeking no reward for
them, and leave without even giving the people a chance
to say thanks, than it is to look for reward."
"Where did you learn this?" asked Maria.
"There is no need to learn it. Consider the law, 'As ye
give, so shall ye receive.' If you give so you will be recognized
that is your reward. If you give to the benefit of the recipient
then the law will reward you openly. Such is the promise
of your Maker. So the wisdom simply is there when you
recognize truth." Reno told her.
"But you are only thirteen!" exclaimed Maria, "How is it
you have knowledge most adults do not?"
"I had a good teacher. Our Riata was a woman of many
talents and taught us long hours and days, before the
church ordered her shot." said Reno, calmly and without
rancor.
"My that sounds terrible. Yet, you kids don't seem to bear
any malice toward such people as would do this.
Why?" Maria was perplexed.
"In the first place, Riata is not dead. She is simply not here
most of the time, where she used to live here always. She
can yet come and go. She has long overcome death, as is
possible for all people. Nextly, the law will reward all for
their actions. There is no need for me to anger. That would
hurt me further. Those who committed the deed have had to
deal with their rewards. Some are receiving even more
now." Reno responded.
"You mean the Cardinal and the Bishop?" suggested Maria.
"Among others. They were the instigators but all clergy within
the church knew in advance of the plan to get Riata. All are
guilty. Today they are reaping a little of what they dealt." Reno
continued to speak calmly, "That is why it is so important not
to judge others. The law will judge all. It is only important you
know and act as one who knows, the law."
"If it were only so simple." observed Maria.
