ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Was Yogi the Bear based on the baseball great Yogi Berra?
Yogi Berra thought so. He threatened to sue Hanna-Barbera
for defamation of character. Hanna-Barbera said the character
of Yogi the Bear was NOT based on Yogi Berra, but was
influenced by Art Carney's portrayal of Norton on
"The Honeymooners."
Are all deserts hot and dry?
No. The term "desert" actually applies both to hot, dry areas
AND to inhospitable ice-covered regions. According to the
American Heritage Dictionary, a desert is a barren or desolate
area. This can mean a dry, often sandy region of little rainfall,
extreme temperatures, and sparse vegetation OR a region of
permanent cold that is largely or entirely devoid of life. Both hot
deserts and cold deserts generally have an annual precipitation
of less than two inches. "Desert" can ALSO refer to an apparently
lifeless area of water, so deserts aren't necessarily dry.

Get Caught?
by Ken Darby
A British clergyman struggled along with a small congregation
in a small neighborhood. A commercial firm offered to supply
free hymn books, provided they could insert a bit of discreet
advertising into the hymnals. The pastor was reluctant but
finally agreed.
When the hymnals arrived, he eagerly examined them and
was delighted to find no brash advertisements on or inside
the covers. The next Sunday, his flock began to sing from the
hymnals. All went well until the third song, in which the
congregation lifted their voices in unison to the melodious
notes of:
Hark the herald angels sing,
Hanson's pills are just the thing;
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
Two for men and one for child.
It happens every time. It does not matter how well you disguise
a lie, or lack of integrity, it will always be found out. Few people,
especially the younger set, realize this.
What they fail to realize is that honor and integrity are built in
to the human psyche. When he/she veers off course he/she feels
uncomfortable. That discomfort is broadcast. Perceptive
individuals around can pick that up.
Yes, I know that through life there are those who have trained
themselves to be quite comfortable with lying, stealing, cheating.
Yet, in truth, those are the ones who broadcast it the most and
are the most readily identifiable before the deed.
The ones you must be wary about, you know, caveat emptor,
are the ones who offer one thing to get your attention and money,
but really end up selling or delivering something else. Those
are the ones who, eventually get caught.
Moreover, they catch themselves. While they may do well for
a short while, life is hard for the deceiver. They can never
mount a wholly successful campaign, a sustainable plan,
long term goals nor the security of achieving them, because
they get caught.
Far be it from me to stand on a moral soapbox and broadcast
the morality of the issue. Do what you want. I am merely
advising you that the law, "As ye sow, so shall ye reap." will
find you out, guaranteed. So if you want to avoid all the pitfalls
of the deceiver, and there are so many they cannot be counted,
then shoot straight.
The practice of shooting straight lends itself to success. It
permits solid planning, effective and believable implementation,
and joyous results and rewards.
Such are the choices of all people. Even the least successful,
while being a straight shooter, has the benefit of inner peace
and strength, something entirely impossible for the deceiver.
So the point is that to practice honor and integrity is the way
to peace, happiness, and, if you wish, riches. Any other style
of practice will eventually end up in failure.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
PART 8 of 8
Lightheadedness/Dizzy/Eyesight
QUESTION: I am unbelieveably clumsy. I'm 21 and I take
vitamin supplements and exersize on a daily basis. It seems
like I dont pay attention to what I'm doing enough, or I can't
recognize the time or distance between me and some other
object, because I seem to drop things, bump, trip, fall,
snag onto stuff, and do stupid things like walking into doors
before opening them. I read somewhere that clumsyness
is caused by a lack of a certain type of omega acid. I would
like to know if there is any truth to this, or anything that would
help my unbelieveable clumsiness. Thanks!
ANSWER: First of all I don't believe in supporting your
self-imposed negative diagnosis of clumsiness. You are 21,
obviously interested in life, doing many of the right things,
and certainly not being a "couch potato"!
Please commend yourself for all those positive things! It
sounds like you are doing a few things at once and not
stopping long enough to finish one task before going on
to the next. Could you slow down a bit and keep your eye
on the immediate goal? If you think you are a bit out of
control" do you drink a lot of caffeine or diet pop? (But don't
switch to the decaffeinated products. Their chemical
ingredients aren't helpful either.) Check out the things
you eat and drink. They may be not as helpful as you
might think. Diet pop is especially problematic... meaning
it can lead to as many as 92 harmful side effects. So move
more slowly and with greater attention to the purpose.
Then watch your food intake as to ingredients. Make sure
the vitamins you take are of excellent quality and are
complete and balanced. There is no point in spending
your good money on products that don't support you. You
might also invest in some dancing or figure skating
lessons. They teach balance. You might also now start
to decide what you would like to do with your life. That
gives you a purpose and focus. But don't get rid of the
joy you so obviously have inside of you! We all need to
share it with you!

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

At the trading town the men unloaded their wares, took
them up on shore and spread mats upon which to set their
goods. The traders came down to the river the moment they
heard of a trading group having arrived. They bid and cajoled
with the villagers in an attempt to get the goods at a good
price. This village had a reputation for quality in their goods
and the traders were bidding lively. The villagers did alright
with their sale.
Then the next task was to see a little of the town. The villagers
were not big in celebrating. The town was large, noisy and
confusing to them. It frightened them, but each wanted a trinket
for their wives and children. Having done that they, as a group,
shopped for the goods the villagers wanted. When they had
purchased all they wanted they were out of both money and
any trading credits they were given.
One of the traders from the town took them aside and gave
each of them a half bolt of cloth. He had apparently made a
good purchase and in this giving he knew the villagers would
give him special consideration on their next trip down river.
That was their law. That is the way these villagers worked.
As the wares from this village were of excellent quality he
wanted first consideration on their next trip. He could make
good money with their products.
Upon getting back to the river with their traded goods, they
could hardly get to their canoes. The whole town, it seemed,
had come to the river to see the two canoes with carvings on
their prow. The people marveled.
The village men were proud of their canoes. They enjoyed the
attention they were getting. This village was known far and
wide for their canoes and for the "magic" in the village.
As they approached their canoes the crowd parted to let them
near. The villagers were questioned about the canoes. They
could hardly get their job of loading them, done. The town's
folk were amazed at the canoes. They even had a trader offer
to buy them. That would never happen, of course. The canoes
were too important a symbol for the village and brought too
many advantages for them. The canoes were not for sale.
The trading done they loaded up the canoes and began their
trip back up river. The work was hard now. The paddling was
a struggle. The canoes were even heavier, too.
Shortly after they were underway, even while still in view
of the trading town, Mazunta heard from Eloise. He closed
his eyes and concentrated. She was telling him there were
a group of traders here telling them of the miraculous man
who saved them from drowning, saved their load and healed
the man eaten by piranha. They want to leave a lot of their
goods as an expression of appreciation.
Mazunta smiled to himself. He knew Eloise and Boolanga
were telling them no, but he also knew the "code of
the river" which required a payment for a service. The
visitors had interpreted this as a big service, and were
trying to repay with a big payment. It was a two edged
sword, so to speak, for the other thing they did not want
to do was alienate the "magic" man from this village. Clearly
they did not want his anger or wrath to come down on them.
Mazunta nudged the man nearest him in the canoe and told
him he was leaving. Again, the man understood.
Before leaving Mazunta lightened the load on all canoes so
as to render them easier to paddle, not being so deep into
the water. All the paddlers immediately noticed and looked
in his direction, with a smile.
Mazutna vanished.
Reappearing at the village, he walked toward the beach.
There were the visitors negotiating with the villagers
trying to leave an entire canoe worth of goods in
payment for his saving the men, canoe and trade goods.
When they saw him coming all the visitors went to their knees,
bowing. He had to physically pick each one up. They
were trembling. Each was afraid of this man who can
walk on water, restore men to whole condition, and
retrieve goods long lost into the deep water.
Mazunta broadcast love and calmness. He had no interest
in reward, or payment, yet he knew he had to take
something, for the visitors to feel they honored their debt.
He looked about the goods, spread out on the ground,
and saw a bolt of cloth, the least pretty of all the cloths in
the bundle. His eyes lit up and he pointed to that bolt of
cloth, saying he would accept that.
The visitors were incredulous. This man had performed
such amazing deeds as to save two lives and all the trade
goods from the canoe, and all he would accept as payment
was a single bolt of cloth, and the least pretty one at that?
