How do hibernating animals know when to wake up?
Hibernating animals rely on their built-in alarm clocks to
wake up. The animal's hypothalamus, located in the brain,
senses temperature changes and triggers the animal's heating
system when it's warm enough to rise. The animal's body
temperature rises and its heart rate and respiratory rate go
up. Waking up from hibernation can be quite rapid. The heart
rate can jump from just 4 or 5 beats per minute to several
hundred per minute within a couple of hours.
Why does it take longer to fly from the east coast to the west
coast in the United States than the other way around?
It generally takes about an hour longer to fly from the east coast
to the west coast than the other way around. Why? Place the
blame on tail winds. When you fly at high altitude in the northern
hemisphere, the prevailing winds are to the east. That means that
flying east you get a boost from tail winds. Traveling west you are
going against head winds that decrease speed. The farther you
travel, of course, the more the head winds or tail winds will affect
your travel time. Commercial aircraft will fly as much as 500 miles
off a straight line course and will change altitude to get a boost
from the fastest of these eastward winds, the jet stream. Flying
westward they will reduce altitude to minimize the headwinds.

Why Advertise Online?

You know it's important to advertise, but do you know
what the advantages of advertising online are? Here are
just a few:
Low Cost
The cost of print advertising is often measured in 'cost
per thousand' (CPM), that is, the cost to reach a given
number of readers. This can become very expensive if you
want to distribute to a large population, and who doesn't?
Comparatively, cybermall advertising can be very
inexpensive, and while it isn't as easy to measure the
numbers of viewers who read online advertising, it's clear
that your ad may be seen hundreds of times per day, every
day. When all is said and done, online advertising is more
cost efficient than traditional methods.
Revisions are Easy
Making modifications to a print direct mail piece is time-
consuming and expensive. Making changes online is a breeze.
Altering a little copy or repositioning a graphic can be
done and uploaded quickly and efficiently.
The Buyer Decides
Online menus give readers control over the amount of
information they get about a product or service. How much
or how little information that is displayed is determined
by the reader. This easy access to information makes the
sales process shorter...good for the buyer and good for the
seller. Online reply forms make it easy for users to
request information when they do have questions.
No Time or Space Limitations
Radio, TV and print advertising are all limited by time or
space. Not so with online advertising. For example, there's
no time limit with an online ad. Online prospective
customers can take as much time as they want to read your
ad. With a 60 second radio or TV spot, they see it once and
it's gone until the next time it's aired.
Lead Time is Considerably Reduced
If you want to run an ad in a magazine, the lead time can
be weeks or even months. Online you can have an ad up and
running on a bulletin board server or in an Internet
cybermall on the same day you submit it. Nothing beats the
speed of the Internet.
These are just a few of the advantages of advertising your
products and services online. There are many more.
Advertising is an important element in growing your
business, and your business WILL grow faster if you
advertise online.

Back to the pain/pleasure marketing strategy. Know that this is
perfectly reasonable... till it hits your body.
For many people these side effects are not a serious problem.
However you are introducing another chemical into your body.
This is not part of the body's original composition and the body
has ways of getting rid of things it doesn't like or reacting to
things it can't get rid of. I want to digress here a moment. Having
a chemical element change something in your body is no
different than having surgery to change something. And as
with any chemical, in which there might be side effects, so it
is with surgery. (And do consider the anesthetic as another
chemical.) In a drug situation you would want to check out
any possible side effects. How? You would ask to see literature,
studies, and ask the pharmacist. And in a proposed surgery,
you would ask to see the consent form. It has to list all possible
complications or side effects. That is to cover the liability aspect.
So read this form very carefully consider all the side effects and
decide if you can live with the worst possible scenario. These
side effects are mentioned because they have occurred and
can occur, hopefully not to you, but it is possible. And if you can't
live with them, ask your doctor for some alternative treatments.
This, as I say endlessly, is YOUR body: not your doctor's. You
will be faced with the challenges. They will be completely
empathetic, but not personally involved. This will and must
be your decision: not your medical team's. They will give you
expert advice, but in the end you sign the form on your behalf.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

When the visitors left, Mazunta gave Eloise a hug and
a kiss. "Bueno, I must return to our men, it is my
responsibility. I will see you when we return. The journey
is long. It may take us three weeks to return. The river
is swift. You will be okay?" he asked.
"I'll be fine Maz. I am glad you came back for the visitors.
They were pretty insistent on leaving that whole canoe
full of trade goods. They need them more than we do. I
am glad you were here to resolve the issue. I'll be fine
until you return. Have a good trip."
"I will, Bueno. I will." with that he kissed her good bye
and was away.
He reappeared in the canoe, in his usual spot. The men
had traveled well in his absence. The lighter load had
made things easier.
That night they pulled in to the very same camp where
they had met the traders from the other village. It was a week
out from the trading town. The men were tired so the evening
was short. They set up a fire, ate, had something to drink and
went to sleep. The sentry kept the fire going, until it was time
to wake up the next sentry. Then they would trade places.
The following day they were on their way early. They would
have a good twelve hours of daylight this day and it meant
they could travel far, provided that storm, that appeared to be
brewing, missed them.
The day was uneventful, but the storm did not miss them. It
hit with such winds and furry they were nearly in trouble until
Mazunta stilled the storm around them. When he did that the
river became smooth and calm and they continued on their
way within the envelope of calm.
They made much progress that day. They passed one village,
but the storm had everyone in their huts until it had passed. By
that time, so had Mazunta and his villagers.
Camp that night was again businesslike. The grounds were
wet from the storm. The men cut palm leaves to lay on. They
still had a fire and kept it going all night.
The next day was warm, bright and beautiful. The men were
paddling with the resolve of those who knew they were getting
close to home. It was still a week away, but that meant it was
over a week from the trading and more than a week closer to
home. The men missed their families and it was time to be
home.
This day they passed a village. All the villagers came out to
the river to watch them pass. They cheered and waved.
Mazunta knew the story of him saving those men, had reached
this village. He knew it would be told all up and down the river.
While he did not worry about it now, he knew that sometimes
such news was not always good. It could bring trouble to the
village, although he knew it would be nothing more than an
inconvenience.
They paddled on, energized by the cheering villagers.
Eight more sleeps and finally they were turned a bend in the
river that brought the village beach in sight. One of the kids
playing on the beach must have seen them and sent up a yell.
It wasn't long before the beach was full of people. Everyone
from the village was there cheering them on.
Three hours later they finally beached their canoes. They were
home. All the men got hugs, and gave them, from their wives
and kids. The village was a happy one, now the men were back.
With the skill of a well thought out plan the villagers unloaded
the canoes and distributed the goods as per village custom.
There was dancing and singing all the way.
Eloise was very happy to have her man back. She knew she
wasn't going to last much longer. The baby was becoming
very active.
The fire that night was a glorious one. There was singing and
dancing that began early and many of the wives and kids were
sporting new cloth wrapped around them. Some of the teen
boys also had new machetes. A man had to be a certain age
in this village to have a machete and a having one was a point
of pride with the young men. Tomorrow they would be shown
how to put them to good use.
Eloise and Mazunta left the fire early. Even though they had
been wed more than a year they were still very much young
lovers. They did not like being apart.
They retired to their hut and went to bed. They lay in each
others arms and talked long into the night. They talked of
everything, the trip, the things she did while he was away, the
rains, the baby, the visitors, everything.
It must have been half way through the night before they finally
drifted asleep, yet Eloise rested fitfully. She tossed and turned
as best she could. Finally she just lay there.
Then it happened.

There was this blonde girl who had gotten fed up with blonde
jokes, so she decided to dye her hair black.
So she did, and she was sooooo happy with it that she went to
her car and drove around just to show off her new look. She was
coming up to this intersection when she saw a shepeherd by the
road waiting to cross with his flock of lambs. The girl stopped
and waved him to pass.
While the flock was crossing the road, she asked the shepherd -
"If I can guess how many sheep you got there, would you give me
one?"
He thought about the offer for a minute and decided it was ok.
The girl looked at the flock and exclaimed "487". The shepherd
said "WOW! That's right...well...take any sheep you like...a
deal's a deal"
So she gets the animal and happily puts him in the back of her
car, when the shepehrd says "WAIT!
Now I have a deal for you.... if I guess the real color of your
hair can I have my dog back?"
