Do the goats really faint?
How can a Fainting goat protect sheep?
Why are Fainting goats associated with Tennessee?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
What causes turbulence?
If you've ever experienced a bumpy ride on an airplane or
felt the plane was suddenly rising and falling, you've
experienced turbulence. Sometimes, turbulence can be
rough enough to make you think the airplane is out of control.
What's really happening is normal enough. An airplane
encounters streams of air, known as uplifts and downdrafts,
in the atmosphere. These powerful flows temporarily alter
the lifting action of the airplane's wings. The currents cause
the plane to abruptly rise and fall until it passes through the
turbulence. Some people refer to turbulence as hitting an
"air pocket," but that's inaccurate. There is no such thing as
an empty pocket, where no air exists, in the atmosphere.
Mountains create some of the most dangerous turbulence.
Winds blowing across mountain ridges take on a wave motion
as the air flows upward over the mountains and then drops
down the other side. This up and down motion can continue
for 100 miles or more downwind from the mountains and can
extend high above them.
What is the American Tennessee Fainting Goat Association?
It's actually just what it says: an association for aficionados of
fainting goats. The American Tennessee Fainting Goat Association
was started in 1987. Membership is open to anyone who is
interested in fainting goats, a breed of goat with a startle reflex
that makes them easy prey for predators. Fainting goats are
also called "Myotonic goats," "Nervous goats," or "Stiff-legged
goats."

Marketing Research Using The Internet
by James D. Brausch
My Internet market research methodology takes about five
minutes per topic. The goal is simply to determine if the
topic has suffient demand/profitability characteristics on
the Internet. I like to turn things into numbers so that
apples can be compared to oranges.
Here's the step-by-step plan:
Boil your topic down to one word. Now we want to do some
market research and assign some actual numbers to that word
so we can compare your topics to each other and find out
which ones hold the most promise for your first Internet
business.
The goal of this exercise is to come up with a number that
expresses the demand/profitability characteristics of the
general market you are considering. This first number is
going to express the amount of "demand" there is for the
idea expressed by the word you picked. How do we assign
this number? What if we can find out how many times a
keyword has been searched on a major search engine in the
prior month? Well; of course we can do just that. There are
several PPC search engines that have keyword suggestion
tools. These tools tell you how many times a particular
word has been searched in the prior month. We will use
Overture (perhaps the most popular) for our purposes.
Here's how to get this number (if you get lost, it's
possible that Overture has changed their site... if so, go
and post to the coaching board and we'll update this step):
1. Open your web browser.
2. Enter the following on the URL bar (or just click the
link below):
http://www.Overture.com
3. Click on "Advertiser Center"
4. Click on "Tools"
5. Click on "Term Suggestion Tool"
6. Enter your first topic.
7. It should give you a list of terms along with the number
of searches. Find your term and write down the number of
searches.
8. Repeat for each of your topics.
We'll call this the "demand" number. It represents how
much interest there is in each topic on the Internet based
on how many people search for that topic at several search
engines which utilize Overture.
Next, we need to assign a number reflecting the
profitability of your topics.
In the last step, we might have picked "joke" (the fifth
most popular keyword search on the Internet at times). Most
of us know that people searching for jokes aren't really
interested in buying anything. We need another number to
express the profitability of topics. Let's use Overture for
this step too. Here are the steps:
1. Open your web browser.
2. Enter the following on the URL bar (or just click the
link below):
http://www.Overture.com
3. Click on "Advertiser Center"
4. Click on "Tools"
5. Click on "View Bids Tool"
6. Enter your first topic in the box at the top. Fill in
the box at the bottom with the letters/numbers in the image
they are showing you. Click the Search button.
Now scroll down to the #10 listing and write down the bid
for that listing. This represents the profitability
number. At least 10 of your competitors think this word is
worth more than that amount. If there is no #10 bid, I move
right on. I try not to pay much attention to the bids above
the #10 bid, because every market deserves to have 5-9
fools who are wasting their money because they see 5-9
other fools doing the same thing. Enough said.
Now you may be wondering about competition. Don't we want
to have a number that represents competition? We actually
don't care. If there are at least 10 bids on Overture,
there is enough competition to make the topic viable using
our plan. We don't care if there is "too much" competition
in a market. Our plan is going to turn those competitors
into our partners, so the more competitors... the better.
Now, just multiply the demand number by the profitability
number.
No; this isn't a trick IRS form. By multiplying those two
numbers together, you have come up with a new number that
is completely meaningless all by itself, but it somehow
encompasses all the important marketing information for
your word. It has the demand and profitability indexes all
rolled together in one number.
Compare the meaningless numbers and find meaning.
The numbers you came up with have no meaning by themselves,
but you can use them to compare with other meaningless
numbers derived in the same way. Now you can tell
if "widgets" or "waggets" is a better market to tackle.
To be technical, you may want to take the square root of
each number before comparing them. That way, a 400 really
will mean that the size of the market is roughly 4 times
bigger than a 100. This is necessary because we multiplied
together two numbers that were really in the same domain.
That means they ended up being the square of the actual
comparable numbers. To fix that, just take the square
root. If you only want to compare the numbers to see which
one is higher/lower than the other... there is no need to
take the square root first.
The number does a lot more than it may appear to do on the
surface. You will find that it predicts the ease you can
find free content for your site, engage in link exchanges,
find topical ezines and discussion lists, etc... All while
balancing that with the ability to find profitable
affiliate relationships, sell advertising, find
complementary products, etc.

Cold Feet and a Warm But Tired Out Heart
Trying to live a quality lifestyle when things
are falling down around you.
Who would ever think a pair of sox and a crew neck
sweater could make a difference in someone's life.
Add a power bar, a hug, a "to do" list, and a smile, and
I witnessed an amazing transformation!
Recently I held a wellness clinic, which offered free glucose
measurements to the public. We do these routinely and it's a
great way to find people who may be on the way to having
diabetes. It's also really good opportunity to do some basic
health teaching on any topic. We do lots of blood pressure
measurements, answer questions, and teach people many things,
including stress, exercise, hypertension, and nutrition. It's a
chance to make contact with the general public who really doesn'
t go to visit a doctor very often.
These clinics are held in department stores and their pharmacies.
We are all registered nurses with an interest in helping
people stay well and out of our very limited health resources.
No clinic ever has just one focus. People see my blood pressure
cuff and they want to compare readings or ask a health-related
question or just chat. If I am ever without someone to talk to,
I fold my blood pressure cuff and adjust my stethoscope and
I'm busy again. (I hide my BP equipment till I'm ready!)
This recent clinic was the same.busy with all sorts of questions,
but I had been placed a bit out of the regular path for prescription
filling and cashier's desk. And that was good because I "found"
people who wouldn't be going to a pharmacist, but were
"just shopping". I was well into doing the testing when a very
tired looking gentleman came along. He stopped like most
people do and watched. But out of the corner of my eye, I
could see him leaning against the somewhat fragile shelves.
There he would shiver every once in a while. He didn't appear
much different than any of the others, but somehow I sensed he
needed my attention more than they did. I always have the right
to choose who is next. It's like triaging.you assess the situation
and make a professional judgement. I chose to check him next.
He had just returned from his doctors' office and didn't need a blood
pressure check.and he wasn't diabetic. (His uncle had died of it
and he sure didn't want that added to his problems!) And he
didn't want a glucose measurement test. So what did I feel he
needed? My gut feeling was that he just needed someone to talk
to and just give him a few minutes of caring.
I learned his mother had died the past week. And one of his
best friends and also a cousin had passed away the same week.
His wife was in the hospital and wouldn't be coming back home
because he couldn't care for her adequately. His family was far
away, but, yes, he had friends.although he didn't want to bother
them.
So my obvious questions were about what he had for breakfast
(it was after 11:00 AM) and how did he sleep last night.and
wasn't he cold with just that thin shirt and open sports jacket (it was
mid November). Even in the midst of crowds, you can have very
meaningful conversations!
He shared with me that he hadn't had breakfast yet and wasn't
sure what he would have. He couldn't bother to shop. It was too
confusing and he never got the right stuff! So I took him over to
the food section and introduced him to power bars.
And why didn't he sleep well at night? It turned out he was
always cold and his feet were icy and kept him awake. Did he
have a pair of woolly sox, I asked? He smiled and said he
had a drawer full from Christmas presents, which he never used.
So now we had him munching on a power bar, promising to wear
warm, woolly sox to bed.next was the shirt and jacket. It was
obvious he wasn't destitute. And even I found out he owned wool
shirts and had several crewneck sweaters!
Things were really looking up! I discovered he had a microwave
oven and could operate it, ditto with a kettle! So we discussed TV
dinners and seniors' meal prepared by certain community groups
and "Meals on Wheels". He was given a quick lesson in heating \
his favorite soups as drinks instead of the convenient colas he
drank when he was thirsty. And lastly, I planted the idea of him
being the driver for a group of women in his apartment block
who no longer wanted to drive in the evenings. In exchange, he
could offer to arrange for a group meal on a regular basis so
everyone could eat and socialize.
By now I had gathered quite a group of interested bystanders.
This gentleman didn't need money. He needed someone to help
him get past the next few weeks with ideas and understanding.
So the ideas flowed freely. Everyone joined in! He left with more
than just a rather long list of things to eat, to shop for, and to
wear to bed! He left with hugs, a much more hopeful heart, and
a huge smile. And we were left with warmth and a feeling of
having made a difference in the life of a fellow "earthly" traveller.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

They all laughed. It was good she was still in good spirits.
Another pain hit her. Now they were only fifteen minutes
apart.
"Why don't you men stay here while Mom and I go about our
business?" said Eloise.
Mazunta went over to her, held her and looked her right in the
eye. "All will be well with you Bueno." he said with the calm
knowing of one who lived by higher law.
"I know Maz. You stay here and keep Dad company. Mom
and I will go get Mae and Karmuz. We'll let you know when
it is over.
The day thus far had been a strange one. The significance
of what was happening had impacted their minds so much
that all conversation was light and almost meaningless, a
time filler so to speak. The event was beginning to take
over their minds as if they were possessed, myopic.
All that was normal at life changing events. It was as if they
drifted, or floated, through the day, not touching anything,
including the earth.
Things would be different after the baby was here, but now,
leading up to the birth, things were surreal.
Mazunta and Sam stayed on the beach and talked away
the time. They had been there alone for at least an hour
when they heard the scream.
Mazunta rose and ran. He was fleet like a jungle animal.
Sam could not keep up to him.
Sam stopped. In his mind he concentrated on Mazunta.
"Maz, she is okay. Halt!"
Mazunta got the message, and stopped. He turned and
looked back at Sam, now half the village back from
where he was.
Then another scream from the birthing hut.
The whole village knew what was happening. They had
been through this many times. Yet this one was very
special in their eyes. It was not only the child of their leader,
who was much loved for himself, it was the child of their
beloved Missy, who had come to be a terribly important
part of the village.
Mazunta's folks came over to where he was standing and
took him by the arm. "It is okay, son, all is well. She will be
alright." they reassured him.
"Hello Sam!" they said in unison as they saw Sam Henry
walk up.
"Hi, you two. Good to see you. All is well with you,
I hope?" Sam asked.
"This is a blessed day, Sam. This baby has been long awaited
by the people in the village. There will be a big fire this night.
Glad you could come and be here." said Honero, Mazunta's
Father.
"It is a blessed day, Honero, you're right. I can only hope
Mazunta can get through it. He is as nervous as can be." Sam
looked at Honero and winked.
"The young, Sam, the young." and they both laughed.
For his part, Mazunta did not know what was going on. He
heard everything alright, but his emotions were running him
crazy. That was his beloved Eloise in there going through pain.
That concerned him very much.
He heard a slap and then the little cry of a newborn.
He knew it was over and that all would be well. He sat, on the
ground, right where he was. His legs were weak.
Boolanga came over and sat with him. "All is well my friend.
You have done well. Eloise has done well, too."
"I am worn out. My emotions have sapped all my energy. I
hope my Bueno is alright. This is a bigger day than I realized.
I am pleased it is over." he said to Boolanga.
"Well, the birth is over, Maz. The rest will be with you for the
rest of your life. It is a pure and inspiring joy to watch your
children grow, learn and become what you have prepared
them for. Our Maker, yours and mine, has given us both a large
reward and a huge responsibility. It is our job to be stewards,
not owners, and we must guide them unto
adulthood." said Boolanga.
Curtains on the birthing hut parted and out came Karmuz,
then Mae, with a baby in her arms. The child was all wrapped
up in soft white cloth the village ladies kept only for these
birthing occasions.
As they approached, Mazunta rose.
Karmuz spoke, "Mazunta, my beloved leader, I present you
with the gift your wife has given you, a baby girl."

REMEMBER! - IF YOU SEE IT IN THE PEBBLE® - IT IS SO!

Learn to keep it up as a habit, that you may see the rewards
of your Maker.
