TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

Do goats really eat tin cans?

What does PEZ stand for?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Do the goats really faint?

No, they don't actually faint. The goats have a muscle
condition called myotonia which causes their external muscles
to lock-up or stiffen when startled. When the muscles lock up,
the goat falls over. Older goats have learned to lean against a
fence or barn to prevent falling over and so they don't exhibit
this trait as much as younger goats.

How can a Fainting goat protect sheep?

By serving themselves for dinner. The goats have been used
by shepherds to protect sheep. If a coyote or other predator
came after the sheep, they'd have a chance to run away if a
Fainting goat was in the herd. The Fainting goat would naturally
fall over, providing the predator with an easy meal.

Why are Fainting goats associated with Tennessee?

The origin of the Fainting goat has been traced back to the
1880's in Marshall County, Tennessee. A man named Tinsley
arrived in town with a few goats and a "sacred" cow named
Zebu. He might have been a traveling medicine man who
used the goats to exhibit the "miraculous" power of one of his
tonics. (The goats would only be stiff-legged and apparently
sick for a few minutes. The tonic would appear to have
"healed" them.) No one knows for certain why he brought the
goats and the sacred cow to town, though. What we DO know
is that Tinley stayed long enough to marry a local woman,
help a farmer with his harvest, and to sell his goats. He then
took his sacred cow and left town - without his wife. Today's
Fainting goats are descendants of those goats belonging
to Tinsley.

Cornpone and Treewood
by Ken Darby

Cornpone Taggart and Hamstrung Treewood are a
couple country hicks. Cornpone, known as "Pone" or
"Old Pone" earns his living on the internet, and has
since he left what schooling he had. He's a lazy cuss,
and figured the internet was the way to earn the kind
of living he wanted. He thought it beat the backbreaking
sweat soaking work that was the kind you could
get in his town.

Hamstrung Treewood, didn't pay much attention to
computers in school and went out to work in the
backbreaking world in town. He had been without
work for a while and Pone was teaching him how to
set up a business on the internet.

The story continues.
----------------------------------------

"Hi Pone!" said Hamstrung Treewood as he came up to
Pone, sitting by his favorite tree in the town common,
"Hows yous adoin' t'day?"

"I's jus' fine there Strung, an' yous?" responded
Cornpone Taggart.

Pone was in his favorite spot because he found this is
where he can get some decent thinking done, while
observing what is going on in town. He found long ago
that just sitting and watching, he knows more about what
is going on in town than anyone.

"Hows yer innynet bizmess happenin', there,
Strung?" asked Pone.

"Its jus' fine Pone but I's sure agettin' lotsa junk emails
lately!" exclaimed Strung.

"Ah, yous means all them there sexual enhancement
products, and lotteries and invites to has yer own porn
site?" asked Pone.

"Yeah! Hows they comes ta have my address anyway?
I's don' even go ta their sites." said Strung.

"Don' worry 'bout them Strung. Folks like that is athinkin'
theys wants ta git somethin' fer nuthin'. Theys ain' willin' ta
do some honest work fer their dollar. Theys thinks tha'
if'n theys can get a sex site out there they agonna get
rich. Theys think theys clever. But really theys only
arrogant. All I's does is delete them by the
hundreds." answered Pone.

"Yeah, but hows they get my email address?" asked Strung.

Theys got programmers whats put tagether some software
that goes out an' finds any an' all email addresses it can.
Theys puts this stuff on their web sites and it captures all
the info from yer c'puter if'n yous goes ta their sites. They
has some sites that look decent and might even offer
something yer interested in an' tha's where theys get yer
address. Then they put it into their mass mailer fer their
other sites. I's cain' figger a way ta stop it so's I's jus'
delete 'em." said Pone.

"Isn' what theys adoin' illegal, or at least
unacceptable?" asked Strung.

"Sure tis Strung, but hows yous agonna catch them, an'
if'n yous does at one site theys agonna set up others.
'Member Strung theys thinks theys the most clever tha' is.
This here is jus' man's greed at its most obvious, Strung.
tha's all. The real crime of it all is theys never agonna get
anywhere." said Pone.

"But theys aspammin' Pone!" said Strung.

"So what? Concentrate of yer mission Strung. Stop
worryin' yer head 'bout all the wrong in the world and
stick ta wha' yous is adoin'. Sure their aspammin' bu' all
yous has gots ta do is hit the delete button an' tha's the
end o' them fer another day. All things in this here world
has some good an' some bad Strung. This is jus' part o'
the territory." said Pone.

"Strung," Pone went on, "I's jus' asittin' here athinkin'.
Yous an' I's we're no' agonna have a chance ta wish the
folks a Merry Christmas nex' week. We's agotta do tha'
now if'n we's agonna do it."

"Geez, tha's right Pone. Christmas is acomin' up fas' ain' it?

"Folks, from Pone an' I we's awantin' ta wish yous all a
Merry Christmas. We's sure done enjoyed atalkin' to ya
this year an we's ahopin' ta see yous next year too. Has
yerselves a real good Christmas an' 'member wha' my
Daddy always used ta tell me, tha' ever day this side o'
the grass is a goodun'.

(See yous jus' afore the new year folks.)

Windows

Moving files from one folder to another. For documents,
this is not a big deal. For system files, and program
files, it is a big deal. Windows has links and files that
point to specific locations expecting files. If you have
moved them using Explorer, Windows may not function
properly. Leave these files alone.

I Wish Doctors Had More Time to Listen.
Then You Wouldn't Be Looking For Your
Own Solutions On The Internet. (How To
Use The Internet Knowledge And Still Keep
Your Doctor!)
PART 1 of 10

I spend a lot of my time helping people connect their
symptoms to possible causes...helping them to recognize
the normal and the abnormal body responses . . . helping
them understand how the disease process creates newer
and different signs and symptoms. I'll just refresh your
memory about signs and symptoms. A SIGN is something
that has to do with the senses. It would have to do with
touch, sight, smell, hearing, and taste. Most commonly it
has to do with sight: hence the term "sign". These are
things we could all find if we knew where to look. These
are objective, meaning they are straight facts. A broken
bone is a sign. Bright red blood is a sign. A certain odor
in a diabetic's breath is a sign. These are things an outsider
would recognize. A SYMPTOM is an opinion, an
interpretation. It is seen to be "subjective". It's your
description of something you hear, feel, or see that no
one else can. A trained medical professional can
immediately start a critical thinking process.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.

Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.

The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.

The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

Mazunta, with all his power, with all his knowledge, with all
his strength - - - cried.

To be holding such a precious gift as a child, his child, was so
overwhelming his only reaction was to cry. It was not the sobbing
of deep sorrow or loss. It was merely tears of happiness and wonder
streaming down his otherwise calm cheeks.

He had thought about this moment many times. He thought it
would be neat, to hold his child for the first time. But this threw
him completely. Here was a life, a human being, all red, still
damp, wrinkled like one with their hands in water too long,
but life, a living, breathing little girl. He cherished her.

Then he realized there were others present who wanted to
see the newborn child. He turned and, opening his arms just a
little, allowed his parents and Sam to take a look at their new
grand daughter.

He turned to Boolanga and let him have a look. Then he once
more faced Mae and Karmuz. "How is the child's Mother?"

"She is fine Mazunta. She is tired and weak, but fine. I think
she will see you, if you want to go in." answered Karmuz,
smiling.

Mazunta turned to look at the others. They were all waving
their hands directing him toward the door of the birthing hut.

As he approached, the curtain opened and out came Alewka.
She, like Karmuz and Mae, had been working within the hut
as part of the midwife team that helped Eloise give birth. She
was beaming with joy at the event, though tired from the strain
over the last hour or so. As she approached Mazunta, he
showed her the child as if she had not seen her before.

Alewka smiled and stood on her tiptoes to give him a kiss on
his cheek. "Eloise is waiting to see you." she whispered.

Mazunta entered the hut. There was the smell of body fluids
in the air, the odor of warm fluids from inside the body.

The midwives had washed up both Eloise and the child. They
had cleaned up the hut, so there was no evidence of exactly
what had gone on within these walls in the past hour.

Eloise appeared as if she had just come through the most
devastating battle of her life. She was off color, her hair was
unkempt, she was weak, and crying. She cried the more
when she saw her beloved husband enter, with their new
child.

These were not tears of dismay. They were a combination of
happiness, mixed with tiredness, and maybe even a prelude
to some "baby blues". She looked for signs of his reaction.

He was not certain what to do. Here he was with two very
fragile creatures on his hands, both female, and he, not having
had anything like this happen to him before, was at a loss for
what to do next.

"Come see me you big lunk. You now have two women to
contend with. What do you think of that?" she asked.

Mazunta came over to the bed whereon she was lying on her
side. He sat down next to her, and laid the baby down on her
arm. Looking at her, he smiled. "I love you very much. You have
given us such a wonderful little girl. She is beautiful. You have
done well." and he leaned over and kissed her. He tried to hug
her but she could not move.

Also she winced a little when his weight brushed against her
abdomen. Yet she knew he only wanted to hold her. She loved
this man with all her heart. She knew he would make a good
Father to the child, just as he was already a good husband
unto her.

"What name will be given her Bueno?" he asked.

"I am not sure Maz. If you have some names let's see what we
will call her. I was thinking that if we called her Alewka Aniata Mae
it might be nice. We could call her 'Alli' for short." she offered him.

"You've been thinking about this for a while haven't you?
Alewka Aniata Mae it is." he agreed with her whole heartedly,
for he knew it was important to her. The name was the first name
of her Mother, his Mother and her very dear friend Mae Wiley.
While it was not a typical village name, he not only did not mind,
he was pleased that she wanted to use those names. It gave
recognition to their roots and gave the child a name that was
perfectly acceptable in all cultures within which she might
find herself.

She reached for him. She knew he would say that, and she
loved him for it.

"You know there is going to be a big celebration by the village
tonight at the fire. The noise might keep you awake." he said,
somewhat concerned.
