Just When You Think You Know!

At a supermarket, I overheard two women talking in
the next aisle.
"Horace and I have been together ten years now and
he makes me very happy," one said. "So I don't mind
buying him what he likes even if it is more expensive."
"Well, with my Benny I have no choice. He's just plain
fussy," her friend replied.
I turned into their aisle. Both women were loading
their shopping carts with high-quality cat food.
How many times does that happen to us in life. We no sooner
come to a decision or conclusion about what is happening
around us but what we are suddenly faced with it being
something completely different.
This is one of the traps in life we must learn from. We take
information in by way of the senses and filter it
through all our former experiences to come up with a
conclusion about what's happening.
We have to learn that the senses feed us the right information
but our minds can put the wrong spin on the information.
What we must all learn, as absolute fact, is that our minds
can only give back to us what we have already experienced.
So when a new experience comes along we must learn it.
To further complicate the interpretation we have our emotions
which "color" the spin we put on the information. And so we
may fear, love, hate, be joyful. While these things might be
good we must always be on our guard that we are putting
the right "spin" on the facts.
That is one of the reasons why I like jumping in to uncharted
waters as often as I can. It enriches the soul, is exciting and
gives us so much broader a knowledge it can, in right
circumstances, add up to wisdom.
Always remember that "uncharted waters" are only
uncharted for you. There is nothing in earth that is new to
or for man. Some man or men have gone through or done
everything there is to do. Over the centuries these things
have happened thousands of times.
So fear not the unknown. It is always a learning experience
rich in new lessons, new benefits, new truths, new wisdom.
Take up the challenge, preferring it to the channel you
are now in.
Richness of character and knowledge comes from having
more experience than those around you. That comes only
from being unafraid to tackle your "unknown".
So the next time you see, hear, smell, touch or taste
something, don't leap to conclusions too quickly. Savor
what the senses are telling you. I can guarantee you there
is no danger. Your automatic mechanism will take care,
completely, of any danger. So enjoy the new experience,
coming not to a conclusion until the experience tells
you what it is.

In Explorer, if you press Ctrl and the 'A' button at the
same time, it will automatically select all files and
folders. This can be helpful to move a large volume of data
from one location to another without having to select each
file/folder individually. If you have a few files you do not want to select,
follow the above procedure, and then while still holding the
Ctrl button, click on the files that you do NOT want, and
they will be unselected.

For instance, you speak of a sore throat and a trained
health care professional would look in your throat and
probably see redness…a sign. You would describe the
tightness and pain: symptoms. Anyone could see the
redness... Only you could feel the pain and describe it.
You mention a sore throat…and they would be looking
in your throat: not your chest or lungs or heart. If you
had a whitish coating on your tongue, they would not
be looking at your liver for an initial assessment. Another
sign would be fever (elevated temperature). They could
FEEL your forehead or take your temperature with a
thermometer. A sign: a fact. But only you could describe
the heat you feel and the possible dizziness or lack of
energy. Blood coming out of any part of the body other
than a regular menstrual cycle is a sign of a problem.
There are signs, not visible to the eye, that could only
be confirmed by what are known as diagnostic tests.
This now becomes apparent with things like X-rays.
So a broken bone would be a sign on an xray, but look
normal to the naked eye. Blood test, sputum cultures,
CAT scans detect signs, but require more indirect
investigation. They need a trained health care
professional's attention and time to listen. Signs are
objective. We can all become aware of them if
someone points us in same direction. Symptoms
are more subjective. Often your emotions are involved.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"It will not bother me. I am tired, I shall sleep. I don't think I
will be joining you though." she laughed, "The villagers have
waited a long time for this. It is their turn to celebrate. Let them
be joyous. They deserve it. They look after us very well. I will
listen. And I will see you in the morning. I think I will be getting
up and coming back home tomorrow. The ladies of this village
expect that of new Mothers. There will be no slacking off. Life
must go on. I shall not disappoint them. A leader's wife must
also lead." she smiled at him.
He was very proud of this woman who married him. In the midst
of this most personal of trials she still took her duties to the
village seriously. She understood leadership very well. He
loved her, and patted her arm to show it.
"I will take my leave now. I am glad you are alright. I will see
you tomorrow morning and I will be glad to have you and
Alli home." Mazunta leaned over her once again to give
her a kiss.
He was looking back at her as he brushed open the curtain
doorway to the hut.
Suddenly there was a loud roar from outside.
All the villagers had gathered around Mazunta's folks and
Eloise's folks. When they saw him they all cheered.
He did not expect the cheer. It surprised, then embarrassed
him. For one of the few times in his life he did not know what to
do. He stumbled back into the hut.
"The whole village is out there. Listen to them!" he exclaimed.
"They are proud of their leader, Maz. They look up to you so
much they are just happy for you. They all have kids. They know
what joy kids can bring. They're happy for you. Go on out. See
them. They only want to congratulate you. Go on." Eloise
encouraged him.
Slowly, he opened the curtain again, to another round of cheers.
This time he stepped out. He left the protection of the hut and
approached the crowd. They broke rank and all crowded around
him. They all wanted to shake his hand and offer their own,
personal congratulations.
To his surprise they picked him up and carried him to the fire
circle on their shoulders.
His folks and Eloise's folks stayed behind. They, instead, went
into the hut to see Eloise.
She was expecting them. When she saw her Dad she burst out
into tears.
"Oh! Daddy, She is so beautiful. What a wonderful gift this child
is. I think Maz likes her too. He wants us home quick.
Sam Henry, too, had a tear in his eye. This was his first grandchild,
a little baby girl. "I will be here often now Tinkerbell. I'm going to
have lots of fun with this little girl."
"Oh! Daddy, I love you and Mom. Mom was such a help. Isn't
she cute?" asked Eloise, pulling back the blanket so the child
could be seen.
"Hi, Mom and Dad Arionanga. Come close so you can have a
look. You now have a baby granddaughter.
Everyone crowded around. They all wanted a look at the baby,
All congratulated and kissed Eloise.
Such a joyous moment. The whole event was upbeat and
positive, though it did have it's moments of pain and travail.
The noise from the direction of the fire circle was filtering
through the doorway.
"They will not let Mazunta sleep this night, I'm afraid. The
villagers, they have wanted this baby for a long time. It is not
only a child to them but a symbol of virility of their leader. It
means he is a strong leader, and now gives him another
dimension of learning that will temper his leadership. It is a
symbol of prosperity in this village, that a man has many
children. It is good." said Honero.
"I am not sure it will change him much. Having learned higher
law he has become a very compassionate man. He knows
well the tough spots his friends and neighbors must go
through." said Eloise.
The response from all present was a murmur and an
affirmative nod. Mazunta was a compassionate man. It is all
part of the complex makeup that made him strong. He was
dearly loved by all in the village.
They all decided to give Eloise a chance to rest. "We will
leave you Missy. You rest. We will keep an eye on your
man tonight and we will see you tomorrow." said Aniata
With that they left and headed to the fire circle from whence
came all the noise.
By the time they got there, though still broad daylight, the fire
had been lit and the drums had begun their cadence.

In the midst of running errands today I made a sales call on
one of my favorite customers. He is the first one I called on
and is by far the largest business, doing many millions a
year in sales. He keeps throwing objections at me. I love to
hear them because that is how I get better at overcoming
them. Today was no exception. The more he does this the
better I am able to deal with all the objections.
