TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------
How did the Frisbee get its name?
How did the "touch-me-not" get its name?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
What is a "Pezhead"?
A "Pezhead" is someone who collects PEZ dispensers.
Believe it or not, your old PEZ dispensers may be worth
quite a lot now. PEZ collectors will pay hundreds -
even thousands - of dollars for older models. The
highest price ever paid for a single PEZ dispenser?
David Welch sold a one-of-a-kind Advertising Regular
from Portugal for $4375 in March of 1997. Many other
dispensers have been sold for over $1000.
How long has PEZ been around?
Austrian candy executive Eduard Haas III invented
PEZ candy in 1927. The original little candy bricks
were peppermint and were sold in small tins. Because
PEZ was originally marketed as a compressed peppermint
breath mint for adults trying to quit smoking, the first
dispenser was designed to look like a cigarette lighter.
For the first few years after their introduction in 1950,
PEZ dispensers did not have character heads. These
dispensers are now known to collectors as "regulars."
After being introduced in America in 1952, market
research with children led to the introduction of fruit
flavors and character heads featuring top licensed
characters. Over the years, virtually every popular
cartoon character and loads of other characters have
been made, including Garfield, Disney characters,
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Kermit the Frog,
Frankenstein, the Flintstones, Popeye, and
Wonder Woman.

New Boots!
by Ken Darby
The Santa Claus at the mall was very surprised when
Dave walked up and sat on his lap.
Santa doesn't usually take requests from adults, but he
smiled very nicely at him, so he said, "OK, you can ask for
something but it has to be for someone other than yourself.
What do you want for Christmas?"
"Something for my mother," said Dave.
"Something for your mother? Well, that's very thoughtful
of you," smiled Santa. "What do you want me to bring her?"
Without blinking he replied, "A daughter-in-law!"
The cleverness of men never fails to make me smile. This was
a cute way to put in his Christmas wish, while still having Santa
believe it was going to be legitimate.
Ever watch and study kids. They can be much the same way.
In complete innocence they, using logic they have at their
command, will often come up with the same kind of thinking
and wording.
It is wonderful the way we can put the language together to
come up with what we want.
For some strange reason it puts me in mind of a new pair of
boots I purchased a couple years ago. They are winter boots
and in all the years I have been drawing breath I have never
had a winter footwear that has been so warm, so comfortable
and so dependable. And guess what? They only cost me
twenty dollars.
Every time I step into them I am amazed at how comfortable
and warm they are. Every time I take them off, I don't want to.
Every time I get a chance to talk about them I do. Every time
I get a chance to tell folks where I got them, I do.
Not only are they good boots, but they cost me nothing. I got
lucky and just happened to be in the right store on the right
day at the right time. Wow! I want to tell you where I got them,
but it is a local store, and not available to most of you.
I tell you this story because I want to make a point. We can
all mix words the way we want. We can all put our own spin
on things. However, the bottom line, the very thing you want
to have happen is you want every one you deal with in any
way to think they just bought the most fantastic pair of boots
they have ever had.
Can you imagine, if you were running a business, what it
would be like if everyone of your customers could talk
about you, your services, your merchandise, your reputation
as if you just sold them the most fantastic pair of boots?
That's what you want to do, isn't it?
Can you imagine if you conducted your life in a way that
had everyone you dealt with think like that about you?
Too many businesses put on what they call "loss leaders"
and because they think they are putting it out at their cost they
can properly call it a "loss leader". They think they are doing a
real service to their customer.
Unfortunately they are missing the mark completely. The
whole point behind putting out a loss leader is to accomplish
two objectives, one being more important than the other. The
first point is to draw customers in and make sales of that product
and many others at the same time. This is the least important
aspect of this principle.
The second, and by far the most important, point is that you want
people talking about you. You want word of mouth about you to
spread far and wide. You want your "real loss" leader to bring in
customers from far away and often. That is why, when you put
on a "loss leader" you make sure it is priced so low it is
impossible to get that merchandise for that price anywhere
else, even from your supplier.
Wow! What a way to get your competitors worried!

I Wish Doctors Had More Time to Listen.
Then You Wouldn't Be Looking For Your
Own Solutions On The Internet. (How To
Use The Internet Knowledge And Still Keep
Your Doctor!)
PART 3 of 10
I teach people to be totally factual about their symptoms.
You would create a list of facts. For instance you have a
rash. You would want to state the frequency with which it
occurs. You would describe how it feels as to itchiness,
pain, and heat. You would mention if it presents changes
in severity with any regularity. The signs would be its
location, size (and any changes) and texture, colour, etc.
The symptoms describe how you feel when you have
this rash. In another example, a bone is broken and the
pain is excruciating when you have to move the leg. Your
doctor takes an xray and sees
(a sign) but he can't feel
your pain (a symptom). You have to describe it. Symptoms
present all sorts of problems such as gender, age and
cultural expectations. Recently a reader described her
reproductive system problems in which her doctor had
told her to get used to this
for nine years! Her description
of the signs and symptoms led me to suggest another
doctor ASAP. You don't fool a round with black discharge
for nine years. Her symptoms might have been misleading,
but the signs are definite enough! Her problem is showing
(sign) the doctor exactly what she saw. This is very difficult
unless you are creative. Some doctors will ask you for a
specimen (sample). Your creativity could stretch to taking
a coloured photo or sample bag. This might be a little
inconvenient, but if it's important enough for you to seek
help, do whatever it takes and the doctor should be very
impressed with your determination.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
It was only mid afternoon, but the village had the fire started,
the drums beating, and the food and drink showing up from
all sorts of places.
They had laid out a spread to put the world's greatest chef to
shame. There were meats, vegetables, fruits, several sweet
things, many kinds of beverages and all was laid out on a
green garden of palm leaves.
To take a picture of the site would have produced one that
would be shown in food magazines all over the world.
There was a constant din of noise from the villagers. They
were all happy and truly celebrating for the birth of their
leader's daughter.
It is probable the celebration was made the better because
this also marked the changing of seasons. The rainy season
was clearly drawing to a close and the summer was
approaching fast. Everyone felt that subtle inner release from
the grip of the rainy season, much like folks welcome the first
warms sunny days in the spring of the year in northern climes.
Mazunta was not allowed to want for anything. His every
wish was granted on the spot. If he wanted a drink, it was
there for him. If he wanted to eat, it was brought to him
immediately.
He was never left alone. Everyone in the village came up to
him to talk and to shake his hand, many came several times.
Alewka, Sam, Aniata and Honero were much the same. The
villagers spoiled them with food, drink, companionship. They
were made to realize the wonderful blessing of being a
grandparent.
The fire was continually replenished with wood. The music
was non-stop and the singing and dancing continued until
people dropped. Then they would eat and drink and get
up and dance some more.
In this village the children were permitted to participate and
the children loved fires that were a celebration. They, too,
danced, ate and drank. They were all caught up in the reverie
of the moment, and they, too, were allowed to go to shake the
hand of the village leader.
Many of them gathered in their own little group, or circle, just
outside the bounds of the fire circle. Play, fun and laughter
was their lot. They made full use of the joy and happiness
of the moment.
With the children of this village there were rarely tears. Only
when someone slipped and hurt themselves was there crying.
They all played together in ways that were a model in group
behavior. It would be good for the whole world to watch and
learn. Not only did they play well together, but each had been
taught, by their parents, to care for one another. Consequently
even the very young and least adapt were as welcome and the
skilled and older ones. And they promoted these values within
the group. Rough and selfish behavior was shunned. If you
wanted to belong here, you needed to care for others more than
yourself. What peer pressure!
The villagers kept up the pace of the party well into the night.
No one knew from where their stamina came. They were all
caught up in the real meaning of the celebration for them.
Later in the evening the dancing gave way to singing. They
did not possess many songs but they had some songs of
happiness they sang over and over. Soon that was interspersed
with story telling.
When the singing and storytelling began the children all drifted
back to be with their parents in the big circle. They loved these
times of togetherness and paid attention to the stories.
Most of the stories were of historical events, So were many
of the songs. It is through this medium the children learned
the history of their people, the village and themselves. This
gave them a real sense of who they were and how they
came to be there.
As Mazunta had been their leader for many years now, there
were stories and songs being developed to show what he
had done. There were songs coming out about their favorite
daughter, Eloise, whom they called Missy.
Mazunta was a little embarrassed at the songs and stories
that involved him, but he was some proud of the ones they
sang and told about his wife.
These stories not only sprang out of history. They came from
love and respect. It was a part of the way the villagers lived
and kept their values always in front of each other. The kids
learned much and early from these nights.
Aniata and Honero, Alewka and Sam, all enjoyed the evening.
They're chest nearly burst with pride of the stories of their son
and daughter. It was an emotional day for the Henrys and
the Arionangas.
